Training Session---Tazer
Current event not a diary entry. Sophie's thoughts-
Its been 3 months since I have gotten tazer. Today we will work a little more on some things.
Ok soo I have now finished grooming him and he sure was a mes when I got him from the paddock. Ive started working on bridle work and saddle pad and saddle work.
I had a friend who was a horse rider cone to the barn eith me today. She held him as I desensitized him with the saddle. I put the saddle pad, gently. I rubbed it against him. He lunged forward and since we were in a round pen I told my friend to let go. She unclipped the leadrope very quickly and he ran through her as if she was to be destroyed.
I was totally expecting it from his past bridle work. He is a very unsure and nervous horse.
I hand the saddle pad to my friend and grsb the lead rope. I want to work on moving his feet before anything else. I swing the non metal side of the lead rope to keep him cantering on. I ask for a change in direction and he did it mindlessly.
I slow him to a trot. He trots. I ask my friend to sneak out after he passes the gait. She does just that.
I halt him and turn my back away from him. Im messing with him now, I want to see how he responds. If he comes I might just try to put the saddle pad on without a leadrope or anyone holding him.
In no time I hear hooves pound the grassy ground. Something nudges my back, and a big smile appears on my face. I walk towards the fence to the saddle and saddle pad,he follows. Reaching gently the saddle pad is in my hand and soo I throw it over his back gently. He is now calm. I go for the saddle. Again he is calm. I reach for the girth and attach it like normal. Im even able to fully tighten it like its supposed to be.
He stands still like a pro. I give him a big hug and ask my friend to grab the lunge line and bridle from the tack room.
5 minutes later.
She comes back and has all the things. I put the bridle on, and he is calmer then he has ever been.
I attach the lunge line how I normally do and send him off. At first he decides its time to buck. He goes on a 1 minute bucking spree. But soon after he calms down to a calm and relaxed canter.
He is a pro!!!
In no time walk-trot-canter with saddle he is soo calm. I ask my friend to enter. I have her lunge him for him to get to know her a bit more. He is calmer now. And I take over and bring him inside towards me. I tell my friend "I am going to try to get one. Can you hold him?"
I feel a little uneasy but I wipe it from my feelings very quickly. I put one foot in the stirrup, watching his body language. He is calm. I do more and go a little more putting weight in it.
I swing my leg over and im now how I should be.
He is calm but I can sense he is about to do something. I grab the bucking strap because there are no reins. Not yet at least. One step at a time.
I ask my friend to have him walk on. He does as she ask,and I just sit there.
I also tell her "If he does anything. Flow with it. This is his first ride ever. Watch his ears and overal body language."
Im able to walk him around 20 times with me on his back. He stretches down and is now relaxed and calm.
Amazing!
I want to see what he will do if we ask for a trot...soo I ask my friend to put him into a trot.
It feels wierd not doing what I normal do with my hands seat or legs. Just sitting here is boring! Or is it?
He trots. Sharply. I can feel him jerk around and he isnt as smooth as he looks from the lunge line handler position.
I feel him begin to lift up his body he begins to buck but I stay on. He calms after 2 circles and gives the best trot ever. I begin to post the trot and it feels uneven but settles.
I want a canter but I dont want to push it...hmm...ill go for it!
My friend asks for it as I sit.
He gives a speedy transition but I stick to it.
He lifts his leg uo higher and canters from a push off.
I feel as if his canter is his strong suit and his favoritem he feels balanced and actually is quite calm.
Me and my friend being him back down and I hop off.
Today was amazing! First ride too! He has come a long way and I can't believe we only had 2 bad things from today. Normally with a horse starting out they will buck and kick when you get on. But no he was a pro!
I can't wait to ride him after he is fully trained!!!
I feel as if keeping him a stallion is a goos choice. He has a nice personality, one of a gelding, and I want to keep it.
Feel free to comment vote and like!
