Chapter Two › Coffees and Confrontation
After freezing and blinking continuously at the piece of paper, Benedict frowns at my response.
"Sorry... have I..." Breaking out of my stare, I hand the paper back to him, my voice suddenly bursting into a high pitch.
"No, you haven't..." I clear my throat, my pitch back to normal. "I... just..." Pointing into the distance, the bus halts and I rush past him, wrapping my coat around myself.
Could it be?
I know I have an interview with someone by the name of Mr Cumberbatch, but is it him?
I ran through the doors of my workplace and collided with my friend, Lucy.
"You all right Ivy?" I nod, Lucy following me to the lift.
"You don't seem it." We both pause and I press floor ten, the lift slowly making its way up. Slowly and painfully.
"I am okay, seriously. I just dropped Emily off, so I'm a bit behind schedule." I look at Lucy for a moment. 'And how was the last few days for you?" She bit her lip, tucking her hands into her pockets.
"Well, me and Jensen have been spending some time together with my parents, see if they like him."
"And..." She smiles.
"They like him." I simper in response, nudging her.
"I'm happy for you Lucy. Really, I am."
"Thank you." I then look away, thinking about my previous thought which preyed on my mind.
"Oh Luce, I need you do a quick confirmation for me." Lucy grabbed a pen from her pocket.
"Sure. Go on."
"Check if a Mr B. Cumberbatch is on my interview list this morning." She carved the name into her hand, clicking the pen shut.
"I'll check as soon as I get to top top floor. Boss." She smirked and we both chuckled.
"Thanks Lucy." I nudged her lightly and the lift opened, myself rushing out then stopping for a moment. "Office in a few mins?" She nodded.
"Yep, I'll have the info about then. See you in a mo." I smiled as the lift doors closed and they carried its journey up to the other floors.
On the way to my office, I said 'morning' to my other employees, then scrambled into my room.
Before settling down, I wiped my finger across the desk. No dust.
Yes, in a way, you could call me a clean freak.
But sometimes, I hated it when cleaners binned the wrong things. For example, some important papers, which to them, look like scrap.
After observing that there was nothing valuable missing, I placed my bag onto the floor and lay back into my chair, letting out a sigh.
Back to the craziness of work for the next eight hours...
My ears then grabbed hold of a knocking noise coming from the door.
"Come in!" I cried out, straightening my head. The door opened and Lucy, handed me a piece of paper.
"Here you go." I took it from her, narrowing my eyes. "You actually have a man to interview today and on the back is the information he had supplied about himself to do with the new job." Facing her, I sighed.
"So, it is Mr Benedict Cumberbatch?" Lucy shrugged.
"I'm not so sure. I mean, according to that paper, it's a B. Cumberbatch. The 'B' may be Benedict." Lucy then placed one hand into her hips.
"Right..." I bit my lip.
"Sorry, is there a reason you're taling a guy called... Benedict?" Placing the paper into the table, I slightly smiled.
"I'm just... curious..."
"Okay." She relaxed herself. "W-would you like a small coffee before the day gets wild?" I chuckled.
"Gosh, you really know me well Luce."
"Well, I understand what happened... all those years ago, to... you know... Liv." I bowed my head, fiddling with my fingers.
"Thank you Luce... You've always been a friend to turn to, so... thank you." Lucy gave me a comforting smile.
"You're welcome... I'll get you that coffee." She turned around, leaving the room, myself automatically reaching to pull out my dragonfly necklace which was tucked into my shirt.
Pressing my lips into it, I shed a small tear for my friend and neatly inserted it back into place.
After a few minutes, another knock had found itself into my ear and Lucy walked in, with a strong smelling coffee.
"Here you go. Strong. Black, two sugars."
"That'll definitely keep me awake." Both of us chuckled, myself knowing Lucy had noticed something different about me.
"You okay?" I sniffed unknowingly, smiling.
"Yeh."
"Right... well, Mr Cumberbatch is actually waiting outside for you, so shall I...?" Clearing my throat, I slipped my coat off.
"Yes, let him in." I straightened myself, Lucy quickly nipping outside.
"You can come in now Mr Cumberbatch, Miss Harper is ready for you now." I hear a deep voice and my heart beats against my ribcage so fast and it builds suspense to see if it was actually him.
And it was.
I recognised those blue eyes.
It was Benedict.
Benedict Cumberbatch. And I was given the task of interviewing him for a job.
