Benedict's POV
I took a deep breath.
"Yes I did." Ivy let out a gasp and looked around.
"I better get going..." She got up slowly and gathered her things in a rush. I frown.
"Ivy? Ivy, I don't..." I get up too.
"I just need to get back." She sniffs and says quickly.
Something was wrong. She had realised something I did not.
"Ivy, what's wrong?" I ask softly.
"I... I forgot that I need to do and see Lucy about her wedding clothes."
"I thought she hasn't set a date yet..." My voice trails off and I place my hand onto her shoulder. "Ivy-"
"Don't touch me." She whispers sadly. "I have to go." Shoving all of her papers into the bag, Ivy turned around and stormed out of the door.
"Iv-" I cry out and grab my own things, throwing my coat over my arm. "-Ivy wait!"
Rushing through the doors, I had thrown my own bag onto my shoulder.
Outside, it was freezing.
Snow had fallen and I didn't realise it.
In the near distance, pacing away from crowds of people, I see Ivy and I run after her.
I struggle past lots of people, I didn't want to lose her.
Attempting to catch up, I lose sight of her and realise work next to me.
My heartbeat races as I race along with it and I had Ivy within my grasp. She rushes towards the elevator and continuously presses the button.
"Ivy!" I calls again, but she still faces the doors. "Hey." I twirl her around by her shoulder and tears rolled down her face. "Iv..."
"Keep away..." Ivy says, grabbing her necklace.
"Please I don't understand, what have I done-"
"Everything! You and Tom, ruined my life and Liv's! She would be here right now!"
"I-"
"No! You're a disgrace!" I lean back.
I hit a nerve.
I set her off.
"Ivy, whatever is happening, I will help you-!"
"No!" Ivy snaps. "You can't bring back the people who have gone." She breaths heavily.
"Ivy..." An attempt to comfort, goes terribly wrong.
"I... I want you gone." I frown.
"What-"
"You're out." The lift door pings and Ivy walks into it her back facing me.
My face bows and I rub my chin.
Finally, it clicks.
I knew why.
"What on earth?" Lucy staggers over. "I thought it was going well?"
"It didn't..." I inhale deeply. "It's over. I'm fired now." Lucy touches my shoulder.
"I'll talk to her..." She smiles before pressing the button for the lift and jumping in.
I knew.
I was Emily's Father and it was killing her.
Ivy's POV
Coughing and crying, I exit the lift.
This wasn't happening.
This can't have been happening.
Why does it have to be the man I could have had a chance with?
Darting into my room, I slam the door behind me, dropping my things onto the floor.
I collapsed, leaning onto the wall, my knees pulled into my chest.
"Ivy." Lucy knocks and I don't answer. The door opens and I hear a gasp. "Ivy..." She lowers her voice and I feel the warmth of Lucy's hands press against my clothing.
"Luce..." I sniff.
"Hey..." She simpers at me and I leams my head onto her shoulder. "Ivy... I want you to be happy..." Lucy says. "I thought that you both liked... each other."
"I can't..." I say wiping a few tears.
"What do you mean you can't?" She frowns.
"I... can't..."
"Ivy... tell me please..." My breathing shivers and I inhale.
"It's Benedict and Tom."
"What about them?" I took another deep breath.
"They were there..."
"Where Ivy?"
"At the pub. The night that changed mine and Liv's life..."
