Chapter Twenty Eight › Stag Night: The Gals
Ivy's POV
"What about this?" Lucy picked up the dress and placed it against her. Me, Emily, Lily and Emma shook our heads.
"I don't like it Aunt Lucy. I agree with Mom." I fiddled with Emily's hair and Lucy smirked.
"Emily, how about I give you a piggy back?" Emily peered up at me after looking at Lily.
"Yes, yes, you can!" I say, folding my arms and smiling.
Emily takes a few steps back and Lily kneels down. She rushes up to her shoulder and jumps into her shoulders.
"Oof! My god, you are growing!" Lily remarks. Groaning, she straightens herself. "Right, permission to wander around Ivy?"
"Yeah, course, just make sure she does run off." I simper slightly and Lily, Emily and Emma all turn their backs on me and Lucy.
I sigh and wrap my arms around myself.
"Hey, let's look for some nice clothes." Lucy nudges me and makes her way to a jumper and lets out a noise of disgust. "But erm..."
"Wow." I say, and chuckle at the sight of the gold and white sequin jumper. Lucy lets out a snort.
"You okay?" She asks and links her arm to mine.
"Yeah, just..." I rub my forehead. "... tired."
"Hard day yesterday huh?" I nod.
"Definitely. I think, I might... call in sick tomorrow. I need some time to rest, I guess." Lucy smiles at me.
"Good idea..."
"Maybe, spend some time with Emily too." Lucy nods.
"That's nice."
"Maybe I'll give her one of those girly nights where we dress up and eat jelly beans." Me and Lucy giggle.
"Aw, well, that'll be nice for her." She smiles. "Mother and daughter, happily playing along." Lucy takes a deep breath. "Man, I wanna have kids."
"That's nice, but..." I lower my voice. "... they're a handful." Lucy smirks.
"Nah, I feel like I am a born Mom and... I'd love to see the look on Jensen's face when I have a kid!"
Almost immediately, my eyes begin to water and a tear leaves my eye. I sigh a shivery breath and Lucy looks at me. "Ivy? Did I mess up?"
"No, I'm sorry I..." I sniffle. "Just..." I breathe out again. "I'm... fine." Lucy rubs my shoulder.
"I-"
"Luce, let's go to a pub." Emma asks and Lily nods her head in agreement.
"Yeah, I need a drink. Besides, I am flabbergasted!" Lily touches her forehead and looks down at Emily.
I didn't want to go. I really didn't.
Emily and a trip to the pub?
And myself drinking- no.
"Ivy?" Lucy looks at me.
"Well..." I clear my throat, Lily and Emma jumping in.
"Come on, don't spoil the fun." Lily remarks.
"Yeah, I mean, we are all drained and it's Lucy's day." I went quiet for a moment and knew that I shouldn't go against the majority.
Even though I felt like complete crap and my body was again, about to flop.
"Um..." I whisper.
"Lets just go, come on Emily." Lily tightly held Emily's hand and Emma walked off with them.
Lucy peers behind me and makes her way towards them.
I stood there for a moment and sighed.
Then, I finally stepped out of the shop, dragging behind them.
My arms were wrapped around myself as I followed them into the bar.
Emotion at my tipping point, I paused, my heart rate elevating.
I rushed away and stopped next to a lamp post, heaving.
I felt sick.
All of a sudden, I felt my something vibrate in my trouser pocket.
It was my phone and guess who it was?
Benedict calling...
Tensing my cheekbones, I answered the phone, tucking my fingers into my jeans pocket.
"Hello?" There was a burst of loud music and I moved the phone from my ear.
"Hello?!" I put the phone back on my ear and frown. "Ivy?" Benedict shouts and I simper.
"Ben? I can barely hear you!" I shout and chuckle lightly.
"Gimmie a second!" He shouts from the other side and I wait. The music had finally died down and I hear a door close. "Hey, sorry."
"Stag night?" I say.
"Yeah, it is awful. Man, I still feel crap from yesterday." I bow my head. "How... are you?"
"Fine. You?"
"Good, yeah... apart from this throbbing headache." I smirk. "Look, Ivy... about yesterday. We didn't really talk properly."
"It doesn't matter."
"I'm sorry that I nearly lost you your clients." I bite my lip.
"We all make mistakes... we made one ten years ago."
"I know... you having fun then with Lucy?"
"Not... quite. It's hell. I can't take it..."
"Take what?"
"All this... I feel ill, so I think I'll grab Emily and go home." There was a moment of silence.
"How's Emily?"
"She's fine... we're fine."
"Good... I wanted to ask you something." I keep walking.
"Shoot."
"At what?" My god. I giggle quietly.
"Just tell me."
"Do you... fancy coming for a small dinner with me? Tomorrow or sometime?" I swallow.
"Oh... I..."
"You don't have to say yes, I mean I shouldnt have asked you-"
"Yes."
"That's fine, I don't mind-" I smile. "-what? Did you say yes?"
"I did but... I will be calling in sick tomorrow, so..."
"I'll come over." Uh oh, too late to interveen... "I'll bring the food to you. And myself, of course." I take a deep breath.
"Okay... cool."
"Well, see you tomorrow Ivy... have a good night." My heart beat slows.
"Thank you. You too. See you tomorrow, I look forward to it."
And in a way, I actually did.
