Chapter Thirteen › Realisation
Benedict's POV
I had woken up, my head thumping, as if to a beat.
Last night I remembered clearly. My evening with Ivy and how it had failed.
To me, I didn't think actually going into work would be at all productive. As soon as I would walk through the door, or catch eyes with other employees, I would be fired instantly.
Just to be sure, I had finally left my bed and slipped on my clothes and I made my way to my normal journey to work.
I was nervous - Ivy would notice.
But, there was one conversation which stuck in my head from last night, and that was how I had known Ivy.
I felt as I had bumped into her some time in my life when I was at university or college perhaps?
Even Tom had though if the déjà vu moment and also, his thoughts on Lucy and how he would be good for her.
I thought, it was only fair to leave her and her fiancée, to be.
On that note, I received a call from Tom.
I swiped my phone open, and place the phone onto my ear.
"Yello?"
"Hey Ben!" Tom squealed and I chuckled.
"What are you so happy about?" The phone signal cracked and another voice broke through.
"All right Ben!" I recognised that voice...
"Hey Chris!" My answer was followed by a groan from the other side of the phone.
"I'm teaching my brother a lesson Ben, care to join us?" Smiling, I widened my eyes.
"Sorry I am not there to toture Loki, I have a spot of business to attend to." Quickly glancing both ways, I crossed the road.
"Business huh? Girly business?" I paused.
"Wha-"
"No, no Chris, gimme the phone."
"Tom..." I glared. "What did you say?" Tom giggled nervously.
"N-nothing."
"I can tell when the famous liar, lies." He let out a sigh, I didn't know what game he was playing...
"Okay, they kinda know about Ivy and Lucy-" I growled. "-but, they are two amazing girls. And..." Tom lowered his voice. "... there's a party tonight." I shook my head, stopping outside the building I had to enter.
"No, Tom. Ivy would never join me after last night."
"Have confidence my friend!" I sighed.
"She won't-"
"Ben... believe it and it will happen! Now..." Tom's voice quietened. "... you go and get her and... bring Lucy with you please."
"Tom, I'm no-"
"See you later!"
"Wai-" The phone went down and I stuffed it into my pocket.
He did that deliberately.
Taking a deep breath, I had subtly entered the right floor and swiftly made my way to my desk.
That way, I'd avoid any-
Uh oh.
It was Lucy, who didn't look too happy.
"Oi, oi... you!" Lucy rushed towards me and I edged back, placing my things onto the floor.
"Y-yes?"
"Come with me please. Let's grab a coffee." A smile suddenly appeared on her face, and I had a bad feeling about this.
Slowly getting up, I followed Lucy to the coffee machine and she poured out some coffee for us both.
"Black, two sugars right?" I nodded, smiling and chuckling awkwardly.
"Y-yeah, you definately know me..." I rubbed my chin, Lucy simpering slightly. "Lucy, look-"
"You upset my friend yesterday." She said firmly, placing two teaspoons of sugars into my cup. Immediately, I felt guilty.
"I'm so-"
"And she is someone I care about." She pointed the spoon at my face. "You owe everything to her, so you better make it up to her." I hold my hands up.
"All right, all right!" I squealed. "I didn't mean-"
"Her friend passed away on a night like that so, it was something she wasn't comfortable about." She stuffed the cup onto my stomach and I quickly grabbed it before it fell. "Take that into consideration."
"I'm... sorry to..."
"I bet you're sorry now Ben, but... just... take care of her. For some reason, even though you messed her up big time, I feel like you're going to make her happy." Lucy held her cup of coffee. "So do it please." She walked past me and I took a sip.
She was right.
I ruined it, I should be the one to make it up to her.
Ivy's POV
"I'll have it all sorted for next week, it that okay?" I spin the pen in my hand and receive confirmation from the other end. "Okay, that's great. See you next week then, bye!" I put down the phone and sigh.
Fiddling with my dragonfly necklace, I bite my lip and shed a small tear for Liv.
Oh, How I missed I her and how yesterday had reminded my of her. Her attitude at a pub, how she would have flirted with all of the men. She would have flirted with Tom, possibly.
All of a sudden, there was a knock on my door and I swiftly wiped away my tear and drop the necklace out of my hands.
"Come in!" The door opens and Benedict peers his head round the door. He is suddenly pushed into the room and he steps forward to me slowly.
I realise that Lucy is standing behind him.
"Ben, has... something to say to you..." Lucy nudged him and whispered, "Go on."
"Well... I..." I bowed my head. "Tonight, I want to invite you and... your daughter... and Lucy to a small party at Tom's' friend's house. Fancy... coming?" Benedict seemed less nervous now. "I don't want to take no for an answer." I opened my mouth to say no.
"N-" Lucy nodded her head slowly. "Okay... fine..." Benedict smiled.
"That's... great... I'll... get Tom to pick us up... from... yours?" He faced Lucy. "Lucy?"
"I'll have an address and me and Jen will make it. What time is it?"
"Still getting confirmation from Tom." Lucy giggles.
"I can't wait!" I smiled as they both looked at me.
"N... neither can I... Ben, please get back to work." He bowed himself and slithered out of my room.
"You going to be alright for tonight?" Lucy asks and walks towards me. I sink into my chair.
"I should be..."
"Just... if he hurts you again, he's answering to me." I smile.
"Thank you Lucy Laufeyson." She smirks and makes her way out as I sit into my chair.
I couldn't stop thinking about how much he reminded me of someone so long ago.
About how I could have met him.
Who knows?
My fate may be revealed tonight.
