Chapter Ten › Pretending

Ivy's POV

"What do you mean, 'we've been had'?" I sighed again, placing my bag onto my lap.

"As in, Lucy wanted this to happen." Benedict lifted his eyebrow.

"What though?" He was so slow today it was unbelievable. "Oh right, yes, I get... it..." He lowers his voice and leans back, rubbing his chin.

"You don't do you..."

"Look, I'm sorry! I... I'm nervous." I scoff.

"Damn right you are." He places one my arms on his chair and leans forward again, facing me.

"Explain to me again." He closes his eyes. "I can't process this yet." I thought I should explain this better. It'll probably give him a heart attack because he didn't know this was going to happen.

"Okay... So. Lucy, knowing her, she had... well... put us together on purpose."

"On... purpose?" I slowly nod my head.

"Yes... on purpose."

"Wow..."

"Yeah..."

"Why would we be a match?" I nod my head.

"Yeah, I mean, you're a doofus." I chuckled the look at Benedict. "I mean, you're a nice guy..." Oops. Wrong place, wrong time to be saying that.

"Thanks." He said rather bluntly.

"We... should play Lucy at her own game..." Benedict frowned at me, myself smirking.

"I'm... not getting that bit either Ivy." Rolling my eyes, I slow down my voice and explain. Everyone else looked at us like we were absolute idiots.

To be honest, I had to do this, otherwise I would let my best friend down. She knows me so well, maybe she'll find out. Who knows?

"We will basically, pretend to like each other." He stares at me blankly.

"Sorry what?" I could tell he thought that this idea was preposterous, and so did I.

"We have to like each other okay! I know this idea is crazy, but it's only till the end of this coffee break thingy." Benedict scoffed. "It'll be over before you know it." I lowered my voice. "But, don't get too deep. No... lovey dovey stuff... like..." I clear my throat. He shakes his head.

"Of course. I would never..." Benedict cleared his throat this time. "... do anything like that."

"I know..."

A few minutes after our conversation, Jensen and Lucy had sat down and we had began sipping at our hot drinks.

"And Jared had splatted Misha in the face with a cream cake!" We all burst out laughing and Jensen held Lucy's hand. "I am now glad to share my moments with you Lucy." Lucy gazed deep into Jensen's eyes.

I then felt a squeeze on my hand and I looked down. It was Benedict's hand.

Lucy had looked at us from the corner of her eye and I quickly shot a glare at Benedict who, removed his hand.

"So..." Jensen took a sip of his drink and placed it back onto the table. "Anyone on your list Ivy?" I frown.

"Sorry?" Lucy nudges Jensen and shakes her head.

"Have you... had anyone you have loved? You don't have to answer Ivy." I bit my lip and shake my head.

"No, Jensen..." I bow my head, fiddling with my fingers and for some reason, I feel slightly upset about that question. "Excuse m-me..." I quickly get up and rush away from the table.

All I remember is Olivia and what happened. And how is was because of the incidents of what had happened that night. After I... so called, fell in love.

"Ivy!" Lucy cried out and I feel her warm hand press against my clothing. "Look, I'm sorry." I pat my eyes.

"You don't need to be sorry..." I face her. "You weren't responsible for anything that happened with Liv and me falling for a man I could never see again. Let's not mention his child." Lucy placed an arm over my shoulder and pulls me in for a hug.

"I am sorry... I'm here now, please, don't dwell on the past." I chuckle lightly.

"You sound like your Mother." Lucy giggles.

"I'll take that as a compliment." We both smile and she takes my hand. "Let's have a girly night tonight?"

"I'm sorry Lu, I can't... I have to back for Emily." She nods her head slowly.

"That's fine... maybe another time." I felt bad.

"I'm sorry Lucy."

"Don't say sorry, you've got a lot on your plate. I'll take Jensen home and you and Benedict do what you want."

"Okay Lu..." I lean my head on her shoulder for a moment and we make our way to the table.

"Right Jen, it's time to shoot." Jensen gets up and clutches Lucy's hand.

"I'll grab my gun and Sammy." He jokes, myself not smiling and Benedict stood up by me. "I'm sorry... Ivy. I knew it was... hurtful." I shake my head sniffling.

Benedict had no idea about my past. I didn't want him to know.

"No problem Jensen. I'm glad you're marrying Lucy. You better look after her." Jensen titled his head towards Lucy.

"Of course. I love her."

"I love you too." Both of them smiled and we all said our farewells soon after.

Benedict's POV

Leaning down to my bag, I pulled the strap over my shoulder.

"Are you going home?" No response.

Something had happened earlier and Ivy was giving me the silent treatment. I wanted to help, I really wanted to, but I didn't know if I would be a help to her.

"Ivy?" I called again, but she sat on her chair, in silence, sipping away the cup of coffee. I think it was still cold, but she still took gulps from it.

"You can go home Benedict." I frown and sit opposite her.

"It's Ben and... is everything allright?" She sighed.

"I don't pay you to ask me questions, I pay you to answer them from other people."

"I know, I know..." I pull my strap down. "But, I want to be your friend." Yikes. That sounded so bad.

Ivy turned her head slightly, her eyes a bit wet. She had been crying and I didn't notice. What kind of friend am I?

"I... don't do guy friends." I answer back in confidence.

"Then I'll be your first."
