Chapter Five › Coffee With The Boss
Ivy's POV
Stretching out my hand, I took a deep breath.
"Congratulations, you've got the job." I breathed out in relief and Benedict just stared at my hand, then he blinked continuously.
His friend cleared his throat and looked at him.
"Ben..." He smiled at me and clenched his teeth. "Ben." Lucy then nudged me.
"What?" I whisper.
"I recognise that guy..." She lowers her voice and glares at Benedict's friend. "He's... never mind." Lucy leans back and folds her arms. "... Probably nothing." I roll my eyes and keep my hand out.
Still.
Then, I tilted my head at Benedict and swallowed hard.
"Um... Mr Cumberbatch?" I lean closer to him, waving my hand and I increase the volume of my voice. "Mr Cumberbatch!" Benedict jerks back and breathes normally.
Finally.
"S-sorry. Can you... repeat those words again?" I frown.
"Mr Cumber-" He shakes his head.
"No, no. The previous words. The ones that... made me... not respond." He rubs his hands together and I lift an eyebrow, wondering why he was delaying the inevitable.
"Um..." Lucy and Tom giggled and it made me feel... like I was being put on the spot.
Gosh, I needed to get these words out of my mouth and then I could finally leave. "C-congratulations, you've got the job." My hand stayed in the same, waiting-for-a-handshake, position.
Oh no.
He froze again.
"Ben!" His friend cried out and Benedict looked at him. "Can we not keep these ladies waiting?" He smirked at Benedict.
"Y-yeh." Benedict coughs and now takes out my own hand and moves it towards mine. And then our hands touch. "T-thank you. Thank you." He shakes my hand frantically and I quickly seperate.
Let's say this guy had never got a job before? Maybe?
His reaction says that, at least.
"Oi!" I turn around. "Keep the line moving!" Pulling my strap up my shoulder, I move towards the counter.
"H-hi. I'll have- Lucy? What you having?"
"Hm?" I widen my eyes. "Oh um, coffee. Black."
"And, I'll have a tea please." The waitress enters our prices.
"That's £4.90 please." Simpering, I reach for my wallet, but I stop.
Since another hand is placed on my own.
It was Benedict's.
"Um, if I may?"
"If you may what?" He waves a fiver in front of me.
"... pay." I shake my head.
"No..." He narrows on of his eyes and nods.
"... Yes?" Benedict hands the fiver to the woman and takes his hand off me. I brush my arm and he faces me. "Might as well pay for my boss' coffee right?" He smiles slightly and I return it. "Tom-" His friend glares at Benedict. "William... Take Ivy and...?"
"Lucy." Benedict bows his head.
"... Ivy and Lucy, to our table and I'll bring the beverages." His friend, 'William' - so not his name - takes us towards the table and I sit next to Lucy, Tom sat opposite to Lucy and I wanted to sit away from Benedict.
But that totally failed.
"Yes!" Lucy shouts and then shys down. "I know you. You're Loki." Tom now freezes and leans forward, denying.
"N-no, I'm not... I just... look like him." Lucy shakes her head and looks at me.
"Ivy, it's Tom freaking Hiddleston!" She squeals and I chuckle.
"Really?" Lucy leans forward.
"I want to just say, you are amazing." She then sinks back.
"I-is that all?" Lucy shrugs.
"Well, I won't embarrass you or ruin your coffee experience so..." She winks and I smirk.
Oh God.
I then notice Benedict make his way towards us holding the tray.
"Here we are..." He placed the tray onto the table and Tom puts his hands over his face.
"You okay William?" He shakes his head and opens his hands.
"Forget William... They both know." Benedict sighs.
"Ah." Here goes the fangirling we all know and love.
Lucy lightly pushed Benedict.
"You know him?!" This was going to be fun. "My God. You are so cool. Man, if I was Ivy, I would have accepted you without the interview!" I clear my throat. "Well..." Lucy grabs her coffee and take a short sip. "Nice coffee, thanks Mr Cumberbatch."
"It's Benedict."
"Thanks Benedict." Benedict smiles and I take a sip of my tea, licking my lips.
"So... Ivy, when do I start?" I clear my throat and take out an envelope, sliding it in front of him.
"In this envelope, is everything you need to know. Start date is well, as soon as possible." He lifts an eyebrow.
"Now?" I chuckle.
"No, not now." I sip my tea. "Tomorrow would be convenient."
"O-okay then..." Benedict glanced at Tom. "So... tomorrow..." I look at my watch and gather my things, taking a last sip, even though my tea wasn't finished.
"Yes. Lucy, we've got to go. Lunch break is nearly over." I get up, Benedict also stretching his legs.
"See you tomorrow Ms Harper." He pulls out his hand.
"See you tomorrow Mr Cumberbatch."
I shake it, however no frantic shaking this time.
