Chapter 1: Mystery of The Vampire.
Gotham City (Kate's Apartment) - DAY
KATE KANE and MAGGIE SAWYER sleep next to each other comfortably in bed when an alarm quickly clock goes off - headlining the daily news for Gotham City.
"Today's news for Gotham, an elderly woman goes missing from the local library-" Kate's arms reach out for the clock as she smacks the item loudly with her ghostly pale hands. Her whole body turns around to face Maggie who is smitten, with her eyes half-closed.
"Babe, you seriously need to change the alarm clock... Every day I go to work, all I hear is the news. I would like to hear something nice while my body lies comfortably next to yours." Maggie wraps her arms around Kate's shoulders, comforting her.
"It's kind of like my jam Mags, you know?" She whispers, "It helps me to focus..." Kate's warm red lips wrap around Maggie's soft lips. Kate's head then gently lets go as they continue to stare at each other in admiration.
And within an instant, the phone noisily buzzes as Kate swiftly picks up the phone to answer.
"Hey," The red-haired's voice cooly cracks. "Bruce?"
"Yes, it's me, Kate. Sorry to interrupt but," Bruce responds with a tone of worry, "I don't know if you have just heard the news that an elderly woman went missing inside the library. The GCPD already did an investigation, but there is no track to be found."
"I think my alarm spoke about that. Who is she?" Kate lifts herself up from the bed and hurriedly prepares herself to the bathroom.
"Her name is Lauren Hollis." He continues, "She's the nurse from Gotham's Hospital Department-"
"Yeah, I know who she is Bruce. I've met her before, and she was the one who treated me when I was injured." Kate abruptly interrupts.
"I was wondering if you can help me solve the case, Kate. Maybe you can bring in your partner too." Bruce calmly responds and continues, "Actually, never mind that. I just saw something on the library's security camera. You could say, it's very paranormal. I'll forward the video to you."
The red-haired raises her left eyebrow in response. "Alrighty then, another one to crack a case open. I'll call you later, I gotta go for now." She then quickly drops the phone.
The blonde-haired instantaneously appears out of nowhere as she scares Kate in return. "Babe, what is it? Is it the missing lady?" Maggie's voice goes into a state of curiosity.
"Fuck!" Kate boomingly answers as her body becomes electrified with a jolt. "You scared the shit living daylights out of me... And yes it is."
"I have yet to inform the GCPD ASAP. I'll call them now, actually." Maggie reaches her arms out to pick up the phone but is then suddenly halted by Kate.
"No, Mags." Kate continues, "I have called Bruce already and he said that the GCPD has got no leads, so I'll have to take this case specifically out on my own." She then snatches the phone away from Maggie's delicate hands.
But before Maggie can retaliate her words, Kate's phone buzzes. She then gently unlocks her phone, showing an email from Bruce himself.
"It's from Wayne security, he had just released a clip of the incident." Her pale head looks down at the device, as her thumb carelessly taps on the screen to play the video.
The clip begins to play. As the video continues, Kate's eyes glisten in detail, her light fingers zoom into the screen showing a clear indication.
"Hang on a second. I know this book, It's about a vampire." Kate continues, "It's from my childhood."
"Wait-" Maggie interrupts, "So you're telling me you were into vampires? That says a lot. Red and Black."
"Well, yeah." Kate softly scratches her ivory neck, continuing. "You see, I was born and bred as a goth. You know who do I listen to right? The 69 Eyes and Sisters of Mercy... Of course, Mags."
"You've never told me that!" Maggies' voice becomes shocked but intrigued at the same time. "Wait for a second, your sister Beth told me about Hammer films too. All of those horror films, besides Nocturna ya know? Vampires and Werewolves? Well, that already says a lot I guess. But I didn't know you were that much of a goth."
"I guess the more you know..." Kate flirtingly winks at Maggie. She continues. "Anyways, this book is called Karmilla. It's about the story of a vampire named Kamilla Karnstein, who apparently seduced women and drank their blood." The red-haired serenely explains.
"And now she's just abducted by that book? That sounds very exotic and gothic for me and that's for sure!" The blonde hair firmly laughs.
"Well, that's what makes it goth, doesn't it? All of that supernatural and paranormal stuff." Kate brightly smiles at Maggie. She continues. "That's the mystery at it's finest! Come on Mags, I have yet to solve a mystery and I also got a cold one to crack open!"
