1.) 10 Schools
New York City's Middleton High School is inhabited by many students but the one student that makes the school most interesting is Xiara Todd. This is the 10th high school that she's been transferred to as she's been kicked out of all the others for fighting. Everyone keeps their distance from her, hoping not to get on her bad side. They all believe that she just fights because she wants to, which is true, but that's not the reason why she'd fight. She just hates bullies.
Currently, Xiara was on her way to her 5th period, lunch. The girl was busy talking to her last period teacher about how well her grades were while everyone else settled into their next class. Meaning, the hallways were empty as she traveled down to the cafeteria. With a pass in her hands just in case a teacher was traveling the hallways and bitch at her for not being in class, she smiled, imagining what delicious homemade meal her dad made for her today. Behind the closed door of the boy's bathroom, that she was about to pass, was a group of bullies, picking on someone who couldn't help himself. As Xiara passes the bathroom she gets blasted by a strong wall of smoke.
"Someone's smoking? In school?" Xia mutters, disgusted. "Dregs." She continues down the hallway.
"Ughh!"
The white streaked girl turns back around at the sound of pain, eyes narrowing. She gently sets her things on top a row of lockers then immediately stomps back to the boy's restroom, kicking the door down.
"What the hell?!"
Xiara observes the three scared shitless boys staring at her with shock, taking notice of the very overweight fourth boy on the floor who's face is beginning to show a bruise.
"You know, I can pass up you smoking, but I can't pass up bullying. That shit gets under my skin," she growls.
"Who the hell do you think you are?" the boy, who is obviously the one who kicked the overweight boy to the floor, speaks.
"Uh, boss?" One of the other boy's nervously taps the leader's shoulder and whispers in his ear.
"What?!" the boss shouts. "She's Dusk?!"
Xiara smirks at the nickname she was given. She was given that name because of her hair. All black with some white. She liked it and it stuck. She wrenched back her fist and collided it with the leader's stomach, sending him crashing through the stall behind him, causing the door to bust in half along with the toilet. The other two members shriek.
"Well, shit... I promised my folks I wouldn't slag anyone else, but I can't just pass by when someone is getting hurt," she shrugs. "That was my third and final strike too..." She grabs the last two by their throats and slam them to the floor, giving them a haunting smirk. "You tell your little boss once he wakes up that if he ever bullies again, he'll have me to deal with, got it?"
They wince out a breathless 'yes' before she lets them go. They hurriedly grab the leader and race off most likely to the nurse. She turns back to the boy on the floor.
"Please don't slag me!" he squeaks, shielding his face with his arms.
Xia sighs as she bends down to his level. "Give me your phone."
He peaks at her from behind his arms in confusion. "W-what?"
"Your phone. Give it to me."
He quickly pulls it out, unlocking it before giving it to her. "Take it!"
She types on the phone for a bit before handing it back to him. "I just gave you my phone number. If anyone ever bullies you again, call it and I'll be there."
He cautiously takes the phone back as she stands up and holds out a hand to him. He takes it and she pulls him up one handed, much to his shock. So strong... "T-thanks..."
"What's your name?"
"Daniel."
She smiles. "Xiara, but you probably knew that."
He nods. "Who doesn't?"
She laughs. "Are you supposed to be at lunch?"
"Y-yeah..."
"As am I. Let's go to the nurse first to get you some ice for your eye before going to lunch."
"O-okay..."
They arrive at the nurses office where the three goons from before are. She gives them a glare before turning to the nurse.
"We need a bag of ice and we'll be on our way."
"Actually, Miss Todd, the principal wants to see you," the nurse states.
"That was fast, but yeah, I figured," the girl groans, turning to Daniel. "Well, I'm definitely getting kicked out of this school, so this is likely goodbye. That is unless somebody picks on you or anyone for that matter."
"Thank you, Xiara."
She gives a nod before heading through the doors to the principal's office, already knowing where it is. Xia opens the door without knocking, much to the principal's annoyance, and falls back into one of the fancy chairs in front of his desk, sideways. "Hey, princi!"
"Xiara, you already know what's going to happen."
"Yeah, yeah," she waves off. "I'm getting kicked out. Again..."
"I know what you think you're doing is right, but nothing can be solved with violence," he scolds. "You have such amazing grades if only you wouldn't fight so much."
"It's not really a fight if they don't fight back," she scoffs.
"Xiara," he sighs.
"I know. I know," she groans. "If you try to fix violence with violence you do nothing but create violence." Xiara scoffs. "You've only told me a billion times."
"And I'll continue to tell you it till it gets to you."
"And I'll continue to ignore it until violence proves me wrong. I mean, they stop, don't they?" she retorts. "Besides this is the last time you'll be able to blab that dumb quote to me..."
"Not the point," the principal sighs.
"My grandpa taught me that you can't stop bullying but you can control it. That's what I'm doing. I'm doing what you won't, I'm taking them out," she replies.
"Your grandpa has a strange way of justice."
She smirks. "You have no idea." She places her things on the floor. "The three were smoking bt dubs."
"I'll deal with that after I deal with you. I've already called your parents and they're on their way here to pick you up."
"Great," she mutters, slumping further into the seat. "Yo, princi? Could I eat my lunch while I wait?"
He sighs with a nod. She immediately sits correctly and pulls her lunch on her lap to eat.
Ten minutes pass before a knock resounds on the door, filling the quiet office.
"Come in," the principal calls out.
The knob turns and in walk Xiara's parents.
"Xiara Flannery Todd, we'll talk in the car," Xuna, Xiara's mother, states, glaring at her daughter. "Go."
Knowing what she meant, Xiara leaves, heading to clear out her locker of her belongings before getting into the family limo.
Xiara's father, Cameron, is a world famous restauranteur who has his own tv show, Kung Food. Xuna, her mother, is the owner of world wide hospital facilities who began as a doctor herself.
"Kicked out again, Miss Xiara?" the family butler, Kevin, sighs from the drivers seat. Kevin has been with the family before Xiara was even born. He was the one who would take care of her when her parents weren't around.
"You know me, Kevin, I can't stay in one place for too long," Xia retorts.
"Miss Xiara, I applaud you as this was the longest school you've stayed in," Kevin says.
She laughs. "How long was it?"
"2 months. The second is 3 weeks."
"Damn, I must be losing my edge," Xia jokes.
"Language."
"Oops, sorry Kevin."
The silence returns and Xiara begins to play on her phone before her parents return. After a few minutes, she hides her phone when she hears the car door open. Xuna sits next to her daughter and Cameron sits across from them.
"Let's go home, Kevin," Cameron commands.
"Yes, Master Cameron," Kevin nods, rolling up the glass between the three and himself. He knows about the shit storm that's going to happen.
"Mom, I know what you–"
"Your father and I have talked already about what we're going to do with you," Xuna begins.
"The same thing will happen at another school," Xia huffs, crossing her arms. "You may as well homeschool me or let me take online classes."
"You're not doing either," Xuna says. "We have decided to send you to live in Gotham with your great grandpa Bruce."
"What?!" Xiara shouts. "I don't wanna live with that old geezer! Why can't I live with grandpa Jason!"
"Because if we sent you to live with him the two of you would cause all kinds of trouble together," Cameron says.
"True," Xiara agrees before shaking her head. "But I don't wanna live with him! He's so mean and senile! Grumpy! No fun! Hardheaded! Old!"
"That the reason why we're sending you to him," Cameron admits. "He needs to straighten you up."
"We've already spoken to Bruce," Xuna says. "It was actually his idea. He said he'd take you if you got kicked out of ten schools."
"I don't think he believed that you would actually do it..." Cameron mutters.
"When we get home, go to your room and pack your stuff. You're living with Bruce until you graduate," Xuna says.
"What?!" Xiara shrieks. "That's bullshit!"
"Xiara!" Xuna growls.
"Ugh!" Xiara throws up her hands in defeat before crossing them over her chest and looking out the window.
... (Gotham City: Wayne Manor) ...
"She actually did it," Bruce sighs, looking at the message on his phone. He replies before sending a message to Terry. He lets out another sigh before looking out his large windows from his chair, giving Ace's head a few rubs. "Just like him."
... (Hamilton Hill High School) ...
Terry feels the vibration in his pocket and immediately pulls out his phone. "Aww, man!"
"What's up?" Max asks, looking up from her desk.
"The old man wants me to help him with something at the house," Terry groans, shoving his phone back in his pocket. "That means I gotta cancel date night with Dana. Again."
"Duty calls," Max waves off. "She'll understand."
The final bell rings and Terry leaves to meet up with Dana. He awkwardly rubs the back of his head as he walks up to her.
"No, don't tell me you're canceling on me," Dana pleads. "Again."
"I'm sorry, Dana, but Mr. Wayne needs my help tonight."
She gives a exasperated sigh. "Make it up to me Friday?"
"You're the best, babe!" Terry replies, giving her a kiss on the cheek before departing in the borrowed Wayne limo. He arrives before he knows it, entering the manor. The new bat makes his way to the clock but stops, seeing Bruce on his chair instead of in the Batcave. "So... any new problems I need to take care of tonight?"
"Just one, but it doesn't involve getting in the suit," Bruce says, getting up from his chair with the help of his trusty cane. "Follow me."
They make their way up the stairs to one of the many rooms in one of the many halls. They travel to a hallway opposite of Bruce's hall and make their way up to a door.
"So is this like some kind of super secret room that has all these gadgets and things hidden behind a closet?" Terry wonders.
"No, it's a guest room," Bruce inquires, opening the door for them to enter. "A very dirty one. That needs to be cleaned."
"I am so not your maid," Terry scoffs.
"I need you to clean the room. Don't worry, it's the only one you'll have to ever clean–"
"That a promise? Cause I'm holding you up to that," Terry interrupts.
Bruce rolls his eyes as they enter the room. "I need this room up to date with the style these days."
"Why?"
"We're going to have a guest who's going to be here for a while."
"What?! Who?!"
"You'll soon find out," Bruce says, exiting the room.
"Slag it..." Terry groans, looking around at the dusty retro room.
...~~~...
Well, that's the first chapter! I'm actually really excited for this book! I know there won't be a lot of people who will read since it's such an old show. 1999. Wow, I was only a year old.
