Chapter 9: The Merging of Forces

My heart pounded faster and faster as we neared the steps of the museum. My body shook, a cold sweat gathered at my hairline. I didn't know why I was so nervous; I had no idea. It felt as though I were walking into a scare house of sorts, but this just felt much more real. It's hard to describe, but I felt as though I would not come out of the museum the same as I went in. Something big will happen; my life will change forever.

The four of us, Harley, Gohan, Yami and I, were nearing the museum. I could see the towering pillars illuminated from where we were. The banners that advertised the new Egyptian exhibit hung from the overhang. I saw people walking both up and down the large staircase to the museums entrance, more going down then up. This doesn't really surprise me considering it is nearing nine o'clock in the evening.

But as we walk closer to the museum, I couldn't help but feel this strong pull on top of my heightened anxiety. It was like two forces clashing in side of my head; one pulling me to and another pulling me back. I have no idea what is causing this battle of emotions in my head. The only thing that's keeping me going are my friends that walks all around me. The thing that makes me want to turn back is the pounding headache in my temples.

I can't help but look towards the ground as the four of us walk towards the museum only a few blocks away. I can see Gohan and Harley's heels as they walk only feet in front of me, I can see Yami's shoes out of my peripheral vision. My head's swimming, not being able to stick with one thought for very long. Right, left, right, left, tac, tac, tac, tac; I try and focus on the sound and pattern of my steps to try and calm myself down. I play with the sleeves of my flannel that I tied around my hips, watching as my fingers work themselves around the fabric.

I jump when I feel an arm wrap around my shoulders, "Yuma, are you alright?" Yami whispers to me as he rubs my arm trying to comfort me.

I take my hands away from my flannel and stick my thumbs into my pockets, still keeping my gaze locked on the ground, "I'm not sure..." I say honestly, "I feel so confused." This migraine pounds at my temples. I close my eyes and rub my throbbing temples to try and rid myself of it.

But then my foot catches something on the sidewalk and I stumble a slight bit, Yami having to catch me a bit so I didn't totally go down, "Whoa Yuma!" He exclaims, low enough not to catch Harley and Gohan's attention. We stop walking for a few seconds so I can gather myself. Then Yami leads me with an arm wrapped around me back and the other holding my hand. He must be afraid that I will actually go down. We walk slowly to start out, "You don't seem well. Not at all."

I feel the pain in my head pulse strongly once, making me cringe and stop walking for a second. Yami looks back to me and helps me to continue on, "I'm fine...just a bad headache."

Out of the corner of my eyes I see a flash of fear cross Yami's features, "Do you sense something?" He asks, remembering my sensitivity to sensing an evil energy.

I shake my head, "No, nothing like that." I assure him, "But something is going on. I never have headaches outside of sensing an evil energy." The pulsing pressure in my head shifts around from my temples to the very front, again I cringe at the sudden intense pulse.

"You are still recovering." Yami points out. Yami's hold around me tightens, as well as the grip he has on my hand, "Do you need to go back?"

I finally peel my gaze from the ground, resulting in another intense pulse of disapproval from my head, and look at Yami with burning eyes, "If anything I will regret it more having not gone. I need to know."

Yami's eyes soften from their usual hard gaze and I see a small smile form on his lips, "Alright. I understand." He tells me, his voice soft and light, "But if you start to feel worse you tell me."

I huff and roll my eyes at Yami's suddenly overprotective nature, "Yes Mom." I tease. Yami arch's a brow in confusion, but decides it better to just brush it off.

Yami clings to me for the duration of the walk to the museum, not letting me slip from his grasp in the slightest. We walk slowly, trailing Gohan and Harley by a few yards. Yami was being so careful with me, as though I were some sort of porcelain doll. As much as I loved the attention I was receiving from him, I just didn't like being treated as thought I were made of glass. But again, his warm embrace made me feel safe. I could feel the steady rise and fall of his chest that reminded me he was there. And occasionally I could feel his breath hit the back of my neck, this caught my attention each and every time.

However the other thing that seemed to take a firm grasps on my attention was this damn splitting headache. It seemed to grow stronger as we reached closer to the Museum, with every step it would grow slightly worse. And for the few intense pulses that would come and go I would end up squeezing Yami's had rather hard. I tried to restrain myself as much as possible when this happened, but it was hard to focus on anything right now.

"Oi Yuma, did you have to much caffeine or something! My heads gonna split open!" Yumi shouts, her spirit coming out of hiding within the Millennium Bracelet. She appeared next to me, clutching her head and her face twisted in this expression of pain.

"It was one coffee and you know it!" I whisper yell to my partner, my head beginning to pound again because of Yumi's and my 'shouting' at each other, "What the hell is going on!" I whisper-yell again at Yumi.

"Oh not you too." I hear Yugi's voice say as I sense his spirit come out of the Millennium Puzzle. He appears right at Yumi's side with an arm firmly holding her at the waist. When he fully appears, Yumi drops her head into his shoulder to rest it there, "Yumi's been like this for a about an hour now."

"An hour!?" Yami questions being rather surprised, "Yuma, you're only beginning to feel this now?"

"No." I close my eyes again trusting Yami to guide me, trying to ease the headache; "I would rather not cause worry when there are more pressing matters at hand." I state rather harshly, much more than intended.

"There's something in the museum." Yumi says, her voice slightly staggered, "Something...strange."

"Is it of evil intentions?" Yami asks with concern in his voice.

"No," Yumi says, "That's what has me confused. But it's something powerful, and ancient."

It took the four of us, technically six, about fifteen minutes to reach the museum. As we came upon the stairs, I could feel this wave of nervousness rush all throughout my being. I was ready to face whatever I was to see in there, but my body was telling me otherwise. I can't imagine that anything in there will be very helpful. But maybe...just maybe there will be some sort of clue. We come upon the stairs. Gohan and Harley stop walking and wait for Yami and I to catch up. He still held a tight grip around my being, making sure I was not to fall down. The headache's still present and shows no signs of letting up any time soon. But still this nervousness was telling me to turn around.

Harley looks to me, "You ready?" she asks, placing a hand on my shoulder.

I look up to her, then direct my gaze towards the museum's entrance, "I suppose so." I say, "Truthfully, I don't expect to find much in the museum."

"You never know Yuma," Gohan says, beginning to ascend the stairs on his own, "Clues to solve any mystery can be found in the most un-expecting of places."

Yami releases his firm hold on my shoulders and on my hand. He looks up towards the museum with determined eyes, "I know something is in there." He begins, his words lined with this subtle excitement, "Who are we? Where are we from? The answers are in there."

We all ascend the stairs together, Yami again having to assist me because of this debilitating headache. Harley and Gohan now finally notice that something is not right with me, but after much debating on turning back I assured them that I was fine. That whole debate was enough to last us until we actually got inside the museum. By this time Yami had finally let me walk on my own. We had gone up to the front desk, Harley and Gohan had paid for our admissions and we went towards the exhibits.

"So which way is it exactly?" Harley asks, walking ahead of the rest of the group and spinning around in circles trying to find a sign that point us in the right direction.

Gohan walks up towards her, his hands interlocked behind his head, "No idea." He says, looking around for signs.

I feel another intense pulse in my head, on the extreme left side. I stop walking and cringe a little while shaking out my head, trying to get it to go away, "Damn migraine." I whisper continuing on. But as I walk farther away, the pulse gets stronger, and I have to stop. Then out of the corners of my eyes I see a hallway, which we all seem to have totally missed, "Hey guys," I say looking down the mostly empty corridor, motioning in towards it, "Let's try down here."

Everyone turned around, giving me an odd look. Then Gohan shrugged, "Sure, why not."

I begin down the hallway ahead of everyone else, the pulsing headache now returning to the front of my head. It's so strange. This migraine keeps moving in oddly convenient directions. The corridor I thought to have had some people in it had absolutely none. It was strange; I know I saw some people down this hallway. And it was dark, extremely dim lighten. I honestly couldn't tell if my friends were behind me with my powers all out of whack and the fact it was so dark.

"Ugh, it's so dark!" I hear Harley whine from some distance away.

"No kidding," I hear Yami say. He's close, right on my left side, "I can't see a thing."

"You think they would turn some light's on." Then the pulsing moves to my immediate right, I stop and grab the side of my head with my hand. I look over in that direction, seeing only the slight reflection of a glass case and nothing else, "Oi Gohan!" I call, "There doesn't seem to be anyone here. Can you give us some light?"

A blue hued glow illuminates the hallway, and finally I can see everyone in the reflection of the glass case. I feel relief at the sight of my friends. I look up at the contents of the glass case, a large stone tablet. It's covered in carvings of monsters, so many menacing looking monsters. Just looking at them gave me a slight pit in my stomach, "Yami...these can't be."

I see him walk up to me, in the reflection of the case, his stern gaze unmoving from the stone tablet, "I'm afraid so," He says, "These are the original duel monsters."

Harley also approaches the stone tablet with Gohan trailing close, both of them showing obvious signs of confusion, "But the game now...it just seems to normal." Harley states.

Gohan sighs to himself, "Yes, but I remember at Duelist Kingdom that Pegasus guy said something about the card game coming from Egypt."

"He implied it he didn't state it!" I hear Yumi exclaim from inside my head. I notice Gohan cock and eyebrow in my direction, but then shake his head out as though it were nothing.

I go up to the glass case, gently placing a hand against the glass as I gaze up in awe at the frightening monsters that have been carved into this ancient stone, "But still, I see nothing pointing us in the right direction." Then I feel another pulse in my head, in the back left corner. I wince, the pain now becoming annoying and unbearable. Whatever is doing this I get your point! I have to go that way! I grab the back of my head and try to shake away the pain.

Then I have another wave of nervousness come over me as I begin to turn in that direction. I walk forward, this lump in my throat forming as I trek towards it. I can almost feel everyone's confused stares as I suddenly move from one place to another. As I walk out of the light from Gohan's energy orb, I feel this dark atmosphere take over the room. Something felt off, really very out of place. I stuck out one of my hands, and immediately come upon another glass case mounted up on the museum's wall. It was as if my contact with the glass was some sort of light switch, as all the lights around me went on.

Before I even got the chance to look at the contents of the case, again I feel an intense pulse in my head even greater than the ones before. The next few seconds were like an out of body experience. I feel my eyes widen on their own and a gasp escape my lips. My hands go straight to the sides of my head as my eyes close shut again. I feel my knees give out from under me and I just go down. My knees slam against the ground, my body can't hold itself up and I just fall onto my side clutching head in intense agony. And I know that Yumi is feeling the same thing. I barely hear the sounds of my friends running up to my aid.

All I can hear are these voices in my head. It's shouting, shouting so loud that it makes my head want to split in two. It just keeps repeating this phrase, "All Hail! All Hail!" Then I see something, a vision. It's a crowd, a large one. So many people, hundreds of thousands. I can't see any of them, all I see is the sky. I'm looking up. Looking up at the clouds as they fly by, I wish to be up in the clouds with them. I look to my right, I see someone that looks like Yumi. I barely have time to get a good look as my field of vision changes. Then I feel something warm in my hand, I'm holding something warm; someone else's hand. I look towards the person whose hand I am holding. He says something before I get to see his face, "My Queen." He says, his voice full of this subtle joy at just speaking the words. And I see him... "Long lives the Pharaoh!"

My eyes flash open with a start, but I barely have any energy to move. I hear someone hum next to me as though I had caught their attention. In front of me is the tablet that I never got to see before I went down, and in it's cases reflection I can see what is happening around me. I've been moved from the floor, I now sit on wooden bench that has been placed in the middle of the corridor facing the tablet. Gohan and Harley were gawking at the tablet in front of us. I could see Harley's stare fixated on my eyes in the glasses reflection. I'm leaning against Yami, my head resting against his chest and his arm draped around my shoulders as though he wanted no one to come near me. I can feel the heat radiate from his body, his breath hit the top of my head, the steady rise and fall of his chest, and as well the slight tapping of his foot as his body ever so slightly moved with it's rhythm.

I barely even moved my head, as though I were subconsciously nuzzling into him. Through the reflection of the glass I looked into his eyes, and out of nowhere the words came, "My Pharaoh."

Harley and Gohan whiz around on their heels, staring at Yami and I in complete awe and confusion. Harley speaks; "Did she just-"

"Yeah..." Gohan finishes his voice trailing in disbelief, "yeah she did just say that."

Gohan and Harley then look to each other, their eyes as wide as dinner plates, "But that's impossible!" They exclaim in unison, looking back and forth from the tablet to Yami and I.

I arch a brow lazily as I pick my head up off of Yami's chest a little, now feeling a little bit better, "What happened?" I ask, turning my head to face Yami. Why does everything feel so hazy? I didn't get a response from him; his gaze was to fixate on the tablet in front of us.

Just as I am to ask again, just in case Yami didn't hear me he speaks, "Look." He tells me, nodding his head slightly towards the stone carving in front of us.

I look back to the stone carving, now allowing myself to look past the reflections of my friends in the glass casing. I see it...the image carved into that ancient stone. I pick myself up fully and sit up on my own. I stand up, the sudden feelings of shock and awe driving me to get a close look at the magnificent carving. There were four people total in the carving, two men and two women each pairs of genders resembling each other very closely as well as the whole group in general. The four are carved facing forward, something very peculiar for Egyptian carvings. All of them looked kind of similar, especially the two women and two men.

All of them wore some form or another of royal garbs. The taller man wore a thick crown upon his head with the Eye of Horus resting right in the middle of his forehead. The taller women wore a similar crown, only much thinner resembling a metal band. Both of their eyes' had a similar shape, sharp and piercing with the women's eyes being only slightly softer. The shorter man resembled the taller man so much that they could have been twins, only that his eyes and facial structure was rounder. The same goes with the shorter women compared to her taller counterpart. All of them had similar hair, looking as though their lightning shaped bangs were a different color from their two-toned hair. The women's hair was much longer while the men's hair was still quite long but short enough to be done up in this star shape.

As soon as I laid eyes on the tablet I knew that the two taller people had to be Yami and myself. However, I was confused about the two shorter people. If Pegasus' theory on Yumi being a princess was correct then that is defiantly her. But the other boy, it had to be the pharaoh's relative...a brother? It's possible but not likely...that maybe that's...no, that's silly. It would just be too coincidental to be logical.

I look over to the little description panel off to the side and I see the original title of the carving in hieroglyphics and its translated version, "The Merging of Forces..." I say, my voice trailing. I turn around to my friends behind me, by gaze mostly fixate on Yami, "I don't understand."

"I didn't at first either." Yami says, getting up from the bench that we both had occupied only moments ago. He shoved his hands into his pockets and went up to the carving, standing right before it, "But it's obvious enough to me that the taller man is me and the taller women is you." He says, pointing to the Millennium Puzzle that hung around the Man's neck and the Millennium Bracelet that was around the women's wrist, "How is that headache of yours by the way?" he asks rather abruptly, looking to me with the smallest smirk.

Gohan and Harley shift their gazes uncomfortably towards me, as though their sanity depended on the answer that was to come out of my mouth. I stop for a second, now finally realizing that there was no pounding pressure to be found. My eyes widen a little, I feel fine. Like nothing had ever happened. "It's gone." I say with disbelief lining my words, "Like it was never there..."

Harley and Gohan look over to Yami in with shocked expressions, Yami raises his eyebrows in response as if saying 'see?' "No way..." Gohan says breathlessly, completely and utterly shocked.

"This is crazy," Harley says, looking back to the stone tablet that hung in its glass case, "Absolutely crazy."

I raise an eyebrow to Harley, "What's going on...?" I ask, slowly shifting my gaze towards Yami.

Yami took a few steps towards me so that he could see the little description panel as well. Then he looked back towards the bottom of the carving, "See at the bottom, those few lines of hieroglyphics?" I look in the direction Yami does, spotting the three lines of ancient writing that had been carved into the tablet so long ago, "That right there is a message from 3,000 years ago...written by you, Yuma."

I arch my eyebrow once again in confusion. I look up to Yami, "It's a message from me?" I question.

Yami nods, turning back towards the ancient message in stone, "It reads:

My Dearest Pharaoh,

If you are reading this then it must mean that the time has come for you to save the world once again. I pray for your safety, however you cannot do this alone. You must find me; I will be reborn with you. I do not know where I will be or how I will find you, but I assure you I will find you my Pharaoh. I know you will not remember me, or anything of your past but please remember this.

Remember that through my pain we will be brought together, and that our verses will heal that pain."

There was a long silence in the room after Yami had read off the message, my message to him. I stood there completely still, that even the slightest of movements would send my world into chaos. I'm awestruck, completely awestruck at the message I had forgotten that I had left. I knew that Yami was going to lose his memories; or rather I knew he would remember nothing when he was to awaken. I knew that I was going to find him after so many years, but what was I to the Pharaoh? What could I have possibly done to play a part in his life?

After what seemed like hours of this awkward silence, I turn from the stone to look at Yami...or rather the Pharaoh, "But...what was I to you? I couldn't have been much."

Yami snickered to himself a little, ducking his head to try and concealing his laughing face, "In that vision you had...what was it that I said to you?" He asks with this light-hearted tone.

I could feel my heart skip a beat for a second; a small pit formed in my stomach only to be replaced by butterflies only moments later, "My Queen..." I repeat, my voice trailing now that I had finally realized what he meant.

Yami turns to me, his hands still in his pockets. He locked his gaze with mine, and I barely even noticed when he took one of my hands in his, "Yuma...you are my wife." He turns his head to face the carving, "And that is our 'wedding portrait' of sorts."

~Harley's P.OV.~

Yuma stood before the Pharaoh completely awestruck. Her eyes were wide, her mouth held slightly agape. I couldn't even begin to imagine what was going on in that head of hers right now. If that were Yumi, she would be throwing a fit. But Yuma is a whole other person; she works in a different manner. I find her to me much more mature than Yumi, but Yumi is not far behind her. Yumi has grown since she and Yuma found each other. Now I wonder how Yuma will change since she and the Pharaoh have found each other once again.

Yuma finally blinked for the first time in a minute or so, not being able to fathom the information she had just been told. I saw her eyes shift from the Pharaoh to the tablet and back, "W-wow." She says, her voice trailing at the end breathlessly.

I blinked a few times, now a bit more confused at her response to the whole thing, "Wow?" I question, breaking the thick atmosphere in the room.

Yuma turns to me, "Hmm?"

I walk up towards the tablet, staring in awe at the large piece of the past, "You have just been told that you were the Queen of Egypt, that you were one of the most powerful people in the world. Not to mention that your husband was, and still is, one hell of an ancient hunk and all you can say is "wow?!" I exclaim, looking at Yuma in awe at her lack emotions.

Yuma looks slightly taken aback by my outburst. She furrowed her eyebrows together with her mouth still slightly agape as she looks between the tablet and her husband once more. She then looks to me, and the most innocent of smiles forms on her lips as her eyes close, "Yeah, I guess so." She says, slight laughs escaping her breath.

I sigh as my lips can't help but form a smile as well. I look to the ground and then back to Yuma as I laugh under my breath, "I can't even deal with you."

Yuma releases her grip in the Pharaoh's hand and comes over to give me a huge hug, laughing like a giddy little girl as the two of us rock back and forth on our feet, "Holy shit I'm married!" she exclaims into my shoulder, her voice all giggly and light.

I look past Yuma's wild hair and off towards the Pharaoh, who now also bares this giddy smile much like his wife, "Yes..." I say, "Yes you are."

It was then that I saw them off to the side, looking to be giggling and celebrating off in the corner. I saw Yugi and Yumi hugging each other, celebrating much like Yuma and I were. Yumi seemed so happy for her other self, Yugi the same way. Yugi looks towards Yumi, this gleam in his eye that I just couldn't help but melt at a little. Then he kissed Yumi on the forehead, surprising Yumi and making her go a bit red faced. She stops for a second, looking to Yugi with this wondering look. But then they smile at each other, their eyes closing and their foreheads falling against each other.

Yumi must truly be a princess in his eyes.
