ten. talks and escapes

1x08

Beth sat on the lower level of the dropship. She was just checking on Finn, who seemed okay. He was lying down with Raven. And she knew that since Raven was still there, he hadn't told the Reyes girl about what he did with Clarke.

Beth watches as Bellamy walks down from the third level, going over to talk to Clarke. She watches them talk for a moment before getting up and rushing to the ladder and climbing up.

She gets to the third level, seeing Nathan sat in a chair, holding his nose as it bleeding. She gives him a confused look before looking over at Lincoln, he was still tied up. She smirks slightly, looking back at Nathan Miller. "Finally piss him off enough?" She asks, a smug look on her face.

Nathan rolls his eyes, holding his shirt to his face. "Shut up, Kane." He says to her, causing her to roll her eyes.

"Go get a wet cloth to put on that it looks ugly." She says to the Miller boy, her hand on her hip as she looks at him. He looks between her and Lincoln. Beth rolls her eyes again. "I'm not gonna let him out. I'm not dumb." She tells the Miller kid. Miller sighs but nods and heads down the hatch. Beth waits for him to get all of the way downstairs before closing the hatch door. She turns and looks at Lincoln. "I'm getting you out later." She says automatically after the hatch closes.

Lincoln shakes his head. "Your people will not let that happen." He tells her.

Beth shrugs. "What my people won't know won't hurt them. I've got O already on board to help. We just have to figure out how to get you out." Beth explains to him.

"It's too dangerous." He says to her.

Beth sighs, looking up at him. "So was staying in the woods that day I first met you. You could have killed me, but you didn't."

"You're going against your people." He tells her.

"And so did you when you didn't kill me. Guess we're even?" She says with a smirk.

Lincoln sighs, shaking his head. "I don't want you to get hurt because of me."

"I won't." Beth tells him. "One, I'll rip their throats out before they can even touch me. Two, if my dad comes down here and hears I'm dead because of someone here, he won't hesitate to hurt them. They all know that."

Lincoln lets out what could only be passed as a small laugh. "Did I just make you laugh?" She asks him, a smile on her face. He rolls his eyes at her. "What was it like growing up on the ground?"

His facial expression changes, going more soft. "It was alright, the most we ever had to worry about was the Moutain Men and sometimes Ice Nation."

Beth nods. "That must have been nice, though. To be able to feel the wind and breathe in real air."

"It is." He says to her. "How was it growing up on the Ark?" He asks, remembering the name of the place she used to call home.

She shrugs her shoulders. "Hell." She says. He looks at her, slightly shocked. "I mean, it wasn't too bad all the time, but sometimes it was. There's a lot of laws rules, and most of the time, you can break them without even trying. You don't get a second chance, though. Um, growing up with my dad as one of their leaders of the Ark definitely had it's perks but a lot of other times, it didn't.  My father, he floated people, too many, my mother included." She explains to him. "The Ark was great when I was younger. All I needed to worry about was if Finn and Raven were okay and making it home before curfew. But when I got older, everything got harder. My mom died, which made everything worse. I got arrested, which made it hell." She says to him. The two were standing close to one another. Lincoln looks down at her, and she looks up at him. "But I got out of it. I was sent down here. We were sent to die, but we didn't. We lived, well, most of us."

Lincoln nods, taking it all in. After a moment, he speaks up. "On the Ark, what does it mean to float someone?"

Beth nods slightly. "On the Ark, when you get arrested over 18, you get a review, and if they find that you're not good enough for their society, they put you in an airlock. Normally, it's the arrested on one side, stuck between two doors. One to safety, and one to death. Our Chancellor, some of the guards, my dad, and their family are there on the other side of the doors. After a minute of talking and counting down, they hit the button, and you get sucked into the black abyss. You get sucked into space, no oxygen, no nothing. Just a painful blackness filled death." Beth explains, looking away from him, trying not to become filled with emotions.

"I won't let anything like thay happen to you." He tells her, causing her to look back up at him.

"Why?" She asks him. "I mean, we just met, and my people just almost killed you. Why don't you hate me?"

"You are not the reason that happened. You tried to help me." He says to her, and she gives him a small smile.

"I don't want you getting hurt because of me."

"I don't want you getting hurt at all." He tells her.

"I don't want you hurt either." She tells him. "I'm not worth it."

"You are worth it." He says to her. "You are, and you always will be, Beth Kom Skaikru." She smiles at his words. The hatch opens up, causing Beth to take a few quick steps backward. Miller walks up, his face no longer bleeding.

"I'll see you later, Miller." Beth says to the boy before walking to the hatch. She gives Lincoln one last small smile before climbing down.

--

Beth had come back from a small walk to the lake to see all of the delinquents acting crazy. She walks past a group of kids running around. She looks around for someone she knows, seeing Octavia talking with Jasper, who was hugging a stick.

"What the hell is going on?" Beth asks her as she walks over to the Blake girl, who seemed to be the only one not acting weird.

"I think they're all high." Octavia says. Beth laughs loudly for a second. "I think it's the nuts from Jasper and Monty." The Blake's girl's words make Beth laugh even more.

"Of course it came from them. Oh my gosh, that's great. They're never living this down." Beth laughs, and Octavia laughs with her. Beth stops laughing, a plan coming to mind. "Do me a favor and go give some to Nathan. Maybe he'll get high and leave the dropship." Beth says to her. Octavia looks at her, confused. "I have a plan, you know, to get Lincoln out." Octavia nods, remembering their talk from earlier when she agreed to help Beth. "Let me know when Nathan leaves the dropship!" Beth says, quickly moving away.

"What are you gonna do?" Octavia calls out to the Kane girl that was already more than ten feet away.

"I'm gonna go get more people high!" Beth exclaims, a bright smile on her face as she throws her hands up. Octavia laughs at the Kane girl, shaking her head slightly before heading to the dropship to get Nathan high as Beth left to get some more rations and make everyone high.

---

A little while later, Beth's plan to get every delinquent high was working. Octavia walks up to Beth as she is sitting next to Harper, as the McIntyre girl sat there, high as a kite, telling Beth about how she got arrested. Beth now knew two new things about the girl, never to cheat on her, and never let her near a bat.

"He's out of the dropship." Octavia says to Beth.

Beth nods and stands up, moving Harper slightly as she stands up. "Good, I need to find some guy clothes. Do you think you can help me get some?" She asks the Blake girl.

Octavia nods at her before leaving. Beth nods and heads to the dropship. She gets inside and climbs up the ladder to the third level. She closes the hatch behind her.

"Ready to be freed?" Beth asks the man, a smirk on her face.

"I'm not letting you risk your life."

Beth sighs. "I'm not. But if I don't get you out of here soon, yours might be gone. And I can't live with myself if that happens." She says to him, staring up at him as he stares down at her. "I'm not gonna stop until you're safe."

"And what about you being safe?" He asks her. She doesn't say anything, looking away. "Beth -"

"I will get you out of here. With both of us being safe." She cuts him off. "I promise you." She says to him.

The hatch door opens, causing Beth's breathing to stop for a moment. But returned as it was only Octavia walking up. She had some clothes in her hands. "I got a few jackets. That's all I could get."

"That's fine." Beth says to her. "Thank you." Octavia nods at her, handing her the jackets. Beth walks over to Lincoln, undoing one of the restraints. "Here, out this on." Beth says to him, unlocking the other side of his restraints. He smiles at her lightly when he grabs the jackets. She smiles back as he pulls them on. Octavia watches the two from the other side of the room.

Beth helps him walk over to the hatch. "Please be safe." She says to him.

He nods at her. And then suddenly grabs the back of her head, pulling her to him, pressing their lips together. She kisses him back for a moment before they pull away. "Yu laik a brave gona Beth Kom Skaikru." She gives him a confused look, not understanding. He doesn't say anything, though, and just nods at her. She nods back at him, still confused.

"Be careful out there." Octavia says to him. He nods at her and then looks back at Beth, giving her one last smile before leaving.

Beth looks around the dropship level, confused. "Did he just kiss me?" Octavia laughs at her and nods her head.

The two head downstairs, making sure Lincoln got away safely. "You really care about him, don't you?" Octavia asks her as they sit down together on a fallen tree.

"It's weird. I barely know him, but I would do anything to protect him." Beth says to her, looking around, seeing Finn and Raven try to calm down all of the high kids.

"The grounder escaped!" Nathan Miller yells about ten minutes later. Beth and Octavia share a smirk as there is a somewhat panic starting.

A loud voice cut into all of the panicking. "Let the grounders come!" Beth looks over, seeing Clarke and Bellamy. They looked like hell. Bellamy and Clarke put down a barrel of guns, beginning their speech.

--

Later that night, Beth sat in a different spot, one further from people. Octavia was there, though, just sitting with her as the two looked at the stars.

Bellamy walks over to the two girls, wrapping a blanket around Octavia before offering one to Beth. She smiles and nods at him, taking the blanket and wrapping it around herself.

"Bellamy, it's time." Clarke says, from a few feet away.

Bellamy doesn't say anything to her and just looks down at Beth. "The grounder escaping, that was you, wasn't it?" He asks her.

Beth shrugs. "I don't know what you're talking about." She says to him. Bellamy nods at her and walks away, not wanting to start an argument with the Kane girl.

Beth sighs, looking at the fire, praying Lincoln got somewhere safe.
