eight. blood and flashbacks

Beth wakes up, slowly opening her eyes, blinking a few times as her vision is foggy. She takes a look around, noticing she was in a cave, or at least she thought so. She looks to the ground next to her, seeing Octavia asleep or unconscious. A sharp pain goes through her stomach as she tries to sit up quietly. She looks down at her shirt, seeing blood seep through her shirt.

She looks to the left side of the cave, seeing Lincoln standing away from them, with his back facing the two girls. "Lincoln." Beth says, her voice cracking. He quickly turns around and looks at her, rushing over to her side. He bends down next to her, giving her a concerened look. "My- my stomach. Something's wrong." She says to him. "When I got speared it went, it went through my stomach."

He nods before looking at the hem of her shirt before looking at her face. Beth nods at him, allowing him to lift her shirt, and he does so. The stitches that Clarke had put in her were ripped open. "Fuck me." Beth mutters sighing at the now open wound.

"It's okay. Hold on." Lincoln says to her, and he gets up and goes over to a snall table, picking up a knife. He also grabs a jacket, no doubt one of the Grounders jackets. Beth notices the knife and that it had a weird red/orange tip of it, almost like it was lit on fire. He walks back over to her, putting the stuff down before helping her sit up against the cave wall.

She winces in pain and lets out a small scream. He looks over at her, "I'm okay." She whispers to him. He doesn't say anything to her but continues to look at her. She nods at him, trying to reassure him that she's fine. He nods back at her and looks back to her stomach, seeing the blood drip down her.

When he hands her the jacket, she gives him a confused look. "Bite down on it. This will hurt." Her eyes widen at his words. "It will stop the bleeding." He says to her. Beth sighs at him before nodding and biting down on the jacket. He puts the knife down to her stomach, confirming that the knife was indeed lit with fire.

An eight year old strawberry blonde girl walks into an apartment on the Ark, seeing a brunette girl and a brunette boy, both around her age. "Hey guys!" The strawberry blonde says as she goes and sits near the two.

"Hey Beth!" The two other kids respond.

"What are you guys working on?" Beth says, looking at their open books.

The brunette girl looks up at her. "We're working on our math work, wanna help?" She asks beth.

"Sure." She says to the two before pulling the book closer. "So, what do you guys need help with?"

The three kids begin working on their school work, with not another care in the world.

Beth awakes to the sounds of Lincoln and Octavia talking. "Please, please don't hurt me!" Beth slowly sits up, looking at the two. He was trying to help her the same way he helped Beth. "No! No! No, please no!" Octavia pleads out.

"Octavia!" Beth speaks up, causing the two to look at her. There were tears falling from Octavia's eyes, probably from fear more than anything. "You're okay!" Beth tells her. "He did the same thing to my stomach. My stitches ripped open, but he helped me. He'll help. He won't hurt you." Beth explains to the girl, who only slightly nods at her. Beth nods back at her before looking at Lincoln and nodding. He puts the knife down on Octavia's wound, causing her to scream out from the pain, and soon she passes out.

"Thank you, for not hurting her." Beth says to Lincoln as he pulls the knife away from Octavia's knee. he nods at her as he walks over to the table.

"I will be back." He tells Beth. He looks at her, looking back at Octavia, making sure she hadn't heard him speak.

"Okay." Beth says to him, and he leaves the cave.

--

Octavia soon starts to wake up, about an hour later. "Hey." Beth says to the Blake girl as she slowly sat up. She looks at Beth wide-eyed before looking around the cave and back at her leg.

"He fixed it?" She asks Beth, confused on why a grounder would help them.

Beth nods at her. "Yeah, I watched him. He wasn't gonna hurt you." She tells her.

Octavia nods at her, still confused. "Are you okay?" She asks, looking at the red head.

"Yeah, my stomach doesn't hurt as bad, the bleeding stopped."

Octavia sighs and nods. "We gotta get out of here."

Beth shakes her head. "I can hardly walk, and with your leg, you can't walk yourself and help me."

"Well, I'm not gonna leave you here, Beth." Octavia says to her, a look of fear in her eyes.

"I'll be fine, just please don't get hurt, again." Beth tells her. Octavia sighs. "It's okay, I'll be fine." She tells the Blake girl. Octavia limps over to her, hugging her. "You got this, O. Be careful."

"You too, B." She says to Beth before nodding once more and leaving, trying to find a way out of the cave.

Fourteen year old Beth sat in her living quarters, she was reading a book her best friend Finn had let her borrow. Though, her peace and quiet was suddenly interrupted when three guards burst through her front door.

Beth stands up quickly, tossing the book onto the couch. "What's going on?" Beth's mother asks, walking into the room from her and Beth's fathers room.

The main guard, who Beth recognized him as Lieutenant Shumway, spoke up. "Miranda Lorretta Kane, you are under arrest for the stealing and possession of medical morphine." He says to the woman, walking over to her and cuffing her.

"Mom?!" Beth exclaims as she tries to get to her mom but is stopped by one of the guards. Beth didn't know this guard, so she assumed he was new. He was also young enough to just have finished school, so she assumed he was a rookie. Especially with the way he slicked his black hair back to almost match Shumway and the way her father does his hair. "What's going on?" Beth asks her mother, as tears fall down her face and she tries to get to her mother but is stopped by the rookie guard.

"Find your father!" Miranda yells back to Beth as Shumway takes her away.

"Mom!" Beth screams as tears fall down her face. The guard looks at her with sympathy as she falls to her knees, crying.

Beth sat alone in the dark cave. She now had the jacket laid out on her like a blanket. She was cold and tired, but she was trying to stay awake in case Octavia or Lincoln got back.

After a few minutes of nothing but quietness, she hears footsteps walking in. "Hey there." She says as Lincoln walks onto the cave. He looks over and nods at her, not saying anything. "Why are you helping me? I mean, all of the other grounders are trying to kill us, but not you."

He doesn't say anything yet but notices Octavia wasn't there anymore. "Where did she go?" He asks, somewhat urgently.

"She wanted to escape. To go back to camp. I told her to go without me. I can hardly walk." Beth explains to him.

He sighs. "There are others out there, not just your people but mine too." He says to her, causing her eyes to widen.

"Why didn't I think of that?" She mutters to herself. She tries to sit up, and Lincoln rushes to her, putting a hand on her shounder to stop her. "I need to help her." Beth says to him.

"You need to rest." He says to her, she goes to protest but he stops her. "I will get her. You stay here." Beth nods at him, a small smile on her face.

He gets up, and as he's about to turn away, Beth grabs his arm, stopping him. He looks back at her with a soft look on his face. "Please don't let her get hurt." He nods at her, not moving. "Thank you, Lincoln." He gives her a small smile before nodding and leaving the cave.

Beth sighs as she leans back against the cave wall, wondering what her life has become.

--

Beth rushes forward, ignoring the guards and her dad to tell her to stop running. She stops as she gets in front of an airlock, where her mother is standing. "This can't be happening." The now 15 year old said. After two months of the board going back and forth on if she was guilty or not, they finally decided Miranda Kane was guilty.

"It's gonna be okay, baby girl." Miranda says to her daughter, pulling her in for a hug. Beth sobs as she hugs her mother back.

"You can't leave me, Mommy." Beth mutters to her, tears falling down her face as she comes to terms with what was about to happen.

"It's gonna be okay." He mother repeats. "Now, say what I have always told you if something like this were to ever happen."

Beth shakes her head, not wanting this to be her reality. Marcus rushes up to them, finally catching up with his daughter. He pulls his wife and daughter into a hug as Beth cries harder. Marcus holds his family close to him, holding on for dear life.

"Marcus." Thelonious Jaha, the Chancellor, speaks up, causing the man to look at him. "It's time." Marcus shakes his head.

"I love you both. So much." Miranda says, looking at her husband and her daughter. The married couple shared one last kiss before Miranda looks back down at her daughter. "I need you to say it." Miranda tells the girl. Beth cries but nods to her mother. "I love you so much."

"I love you too, mom." Beth says to her as Miranda wipes the tears from under Beth's eyes.

Shumway moves Miranda to the airlock, locking her in there. She turns to face her family. "May we meet again." She says, and they start the count down. For whatever cruel reason, Thelonious was making Marcus hit the button, but Beth had a feeling that was more Shumway than Thelonious. "Ten, nine."

"In peace, may you leave the shore." Beth speaks up. Miranda smiles at her daughts words. "Eight, seven."

"In love, may you find the next." She says, and Mirand looks at Marcus, both having tears falling down their faces. Miranda nods at Marcus and their daughter. "Six, five."

The guard that held Beth the day she cried as her mother was arrested was also there. He had a look of hatred directed at Shumway, probably for making Marcus do this to his own wife, but Beth wasn't sure if that was the actual reason.

"Safe passage on your travels..." Beth takes a deep breath. "Four, three." She cries quietly as she finishes. "Until our final journey to the ground." She spoke out, a sob following her words. Miranda looks at her husband, knowing what is about to come.

"Two, one."

"May we meet again." Beth says out as Marcus looks back at Jaha, who nods. Marcus lets out a silent cry as he pushes the button, having no choice.

And the opposite doors to the airlock open, sending Miranda Loretta Kane into the black abyss that was space.

Beth falls to her knees, sobbing as her father rushes over to her, pulling her into a hug and holding her as they both cry.

--

Beth wakes up to Lincoln carrying Octavia back into the cave, and by the look on the Blake girls face, she wasn't happy.

"What the hell are you doing?" Octavia asks him as he puts her down. He doesn't say anything to her but grabs the chains but the wall and puts the on her hands. "No, no! Please don't do this!" She exclaims. "Please stop!" She says as he chains the other side to the wall and walks over to Beth. "Leave her alone!" She screams out.

Lincoln doesn't react and just looks at Beth before looking at the chains in his hands. Beth understands what he was asking her. She nods at him and he chains her hands up and connects them to the same hook on the floor as Octavia's. He gives her a slight nod before leaving the cave.

Beth looks over at Octavia. "We're gonna be fine."

"How do you know?" Octavia asks the older girl.

"I just know." She says to her. Octavia doesn't say anything back, just sitting there quietly.

A short while later, Lincoln had come back and was now looking at Beth's wounds.

"Is it okay?" She asks him.

He nods at her. "Yes, the bleeding stopped, and it shouldn't get infected." He whispers to her, careful that Octavia doesn't hear him.

"Can you check on her, please? Make sure she's okay?" Beth asks him. He nods and pulls down Beth's shirt before giving her one last look and going to Octavia. Who sudden;y hits him with a rock over the head.

She looks at him and the brunette girl wide-eyed. Lincoln fell to the ground as Beth stared at Octavia, shocked.

A few moments later, Finn, Bellamy, Jasper, and Monroe rush into the cave. Bellamy rushes over to Octavia as Finn ruses to Beth.

"Beth, are you okay?" Finn asks his best friend, but she doesn't say anything as Octavia gets the keys from Bellamy, who got them off Lincoln's body. Octavia unchains herself, then moves to unchain Beth.

Bellamy looks down at the grounder, laying unconscious. He grabs his gun out and aims it at Lincoln. "No!" Beth screams, shocking them all. "Just leave him alone!"

"Yeah, Bell. He saved us. Beth would have bled out if he didn't help her." Octavia says, backing up the girl.

Finn walks over to Lincoln, who stayed still on the ground. he reaches down for something on Lincoln's belt, muttering something about a foghorn. Lincoln suddenly jumps up, stabbing Finn with a knife he had hidden.

"Finn!" Beth screams out as she rushes over to him. "No, no, no." She mutters as she puts pressure onto his wounds. She watches as Bellamy and Lincoln fight. Lincoln pushed Bellamy onto the ground, about to stab him with another knife. "No, stop! He's my friend, please!"

Lincoln doesn't listen to her, though, looking back at Bellamy about to kill him when Jasper suddenly hits him with a piece of wood, knocking him unconscious.

Beth sighs, looking down at Finn, continuing to put pressure onto his wounds. "We need to get him to camp immediately." Beth says, looking at the other four, tears falling down her face as she worries for her best friend.
