Chapter Three
some of you are gonna hate me for this chapter, whoops.
PS, THIS CHAPTER IS NOT EDITED!
THE FOUR HORSEMEN
A loud knock on Beth's door woke her up, causing her to groan. She turns over, looking at the door, glaring as someone knocked loudly once again. She rolled her eyes, closing them once again, not wanting to answer.
The person knocked loudly once again, causing Beth to groan and sit up. She throws the blankets off of her and quickly puts on her pants and jacket before storming over to the door. She throws the door open, glarring at the person in front of her. "What the hell do you want?" She asks Roan as he stood in front of her. He doesn't answer and walks right into the room. Beth looks at him, her eyes wide. "Oh yeah, just walk right in." She mutters to herself before closing the door and putting on her boots.
She looks back at the man, who stood a few feet in front of her. "What do you want that required you waking me up?" The Skaikru-Trikru warrior asks him as she sits on a small couch, with a small mirror. She begins brushing through her hair. Beth looks back at him, raising an eyebrow when she notices him staring at her. "Roan!" He snaps out of his daze. "What do you want?" She asks as she begins braiding her hair.
"Someone stole the Flame." He says to her, causing her eyes to widen and her to quickly stand.
"What?!" She exclaims loudly. "How could you let this happen?!" She asks, glaring at the King. He walks over to her and grabs her hair, quickly finishing the braid she had abandoned. She slaps his hands away. "What the hell happened?" She asks. "No, you know what, we need to find Octavia. Let's go." She says to him. She grabs his arm, dragging him from the room.
----
Beth and Roan walked in the streets, looking for Octavia. Roan had a hood over his head as they walked, though Beth couldn't care less if any of their people saw her. "C'mon." She mutters to the man as she sees Octavia sitting down, sharpening her sword.
Octavia notices them, standing as Roan takes off his hood. "It's not safe for you both here. What do you want?" Octavia asks, though, mainly asking Roan.
"I need you to handle something for me." Roan says to her as Beth looks around. "The way you handled Ambassador Rafel." He tells the Blake girl. Beth looks back to them, though looking to the doorway, seeing Indra walking closer to them, stopping and staring at the three. Roan looks at the warrior woman and then back to Beth and then Octavia. "We should speak alone."
Beth rolls her eyes. "Indra can listen, she won't speak of this to anyone." She tells the King, who looks at her for a minute, about to say something to the redhead but Octavia cuts him off.
"If you can't trust Indra, you can't trust me." The girl says, putting her hands behind her back. Roan looks at the three woman as Indra walks closer to the three.
"The Flame's been stolen." Roan says to the two women who didn't already know.
"This idiot lost it." Beth says.
"How? When?" Octavia asks the King, ignoring Beth.
Roan nods slightly to the tower. "Just now from my quarters while I was training."
Beth looks at the two then back to Roan. "I knew we should have kept it with me but no, you just had to keep it yourself." She mutters to the man.
"How can you be so careless?" Indra asks the man as Beth looks at him, nodding to Indra, agreeing with her.
"We need to lockdown this City and search everyone." Octavia says to Beth and Roan.
Indra walks in between Octavia and Roan, towards Beth as Beth speaks. "We can't. If word get's out that he's lost the Flame, the other Clans will question his rule, question my rule, trikru loudest of them all against him."
"Then I'll be forced to answer their questions with my army." Roan says, looking at Beth and Indra.
Beth glares. "The hell you will." She says to the man, her face grown cold at his words, her face showing anger.
"Or we can just find it." Octavia says, not wanting a fight between Beth and Roan to start. "Where do I start?" She asks the two Grounder Leaders, grabbing her jacket, putting it on.
"Whoever did this got in and out of the tower without being seen. In order to risk that, she'd have to care more about the Flame than her own life." He says, looking towards Indra.
Beth looks at the man confused. "She? How the hell do you know it's a she?"
"The new Flamekeeper." He tells the red headed warrior.
Beth looks to Indra as the woman spoke up. "Perhaps you should look closer to home." Indra says. The Kane girl nods, believing it could possibly have been someone closer to Roan. "You're not exactly beloved."
"My people want an Ice Nation King." Roan says.
"The Ambassadors don't." Indra says.
"The Ambassadors are cowards and know I'd have their heads, the keepers of the Flame - fanatics." He tells the Trikru warrior. Indra doesn't reply as Roan looks back at Octavia. "I'd do it myself, but my guards won't let me out of their sights, or Beth."
Octavia looks behind them slightly, seeing the guards standing nearby, though not close enough to hear the fours conversation. She grabs her sword, saying. "I'll handle it," Before walking away from the three.
Beth sighs, knowing that the Blake girl was changing and Beth didn't think it was for the better, and the next few words shared between the three confirmed her suspisions.
"What's wrong?" Roan asks Indra and Beth, as she and Beth watched the Blake girl walk away, worried but somewhat proud looks on both women's faces. Beth was worried for the girl, but she was proud of her, she became a warrior someone who could fight for herself. "You've created a killer." Roan says to Indra. Beth elbows Roan in the stomach, causing him to glare slightly at her. He looks back to Octavia's retreating figure and leans closer to Indra. "In the street, they're calling her Skairipa, death from above."
"I'm so proud." Indra says to the two.
"You should be." Roan says. "One kill to prevent thousands," He says, putting on his hood. "that's good politics." Roan walks away as Indra continues to look off in the direction Octavia had gone in.
Beth puts a hand on Indra's shoulder. "If you need anything, you know where to find me." Beth says to the woman, who nods at her. Beth walks away, going back to the tower.
-----
Beth say on the floor in her room, her legs criss crossed as she had Lincoln's journal in her hands. She was going through Lincoln's journal, reading it, even though she's read everything about 100 times.
A knock on her door snaps her from her thoughts. She closes the book, looking at the door before saying, "Come in." The door opens revealing Roan. She sighs, looking at the book as he walks into the room, closing the door behind himself. "What? No guard dogs following?" She asks the King, annoyance in her voice.
Roan rolls his eyes. "No. I told them to wait outside." He says to her as she looks up from her book before she gets up and goes over to a small book shelf, and places the journal down.
She looks at Roan as he walks slightly closer to him. "What do you need?" She asks him, placing a hand on her hip, raising an eyebrow at him.
"Do you know what they're calling you down in the streets?" He asks her.
She rolls her eyes. "No. And I don't care." She says to him.
"Gonareina." He replies. The redhead gives him a slightly confused look, knowing what the words had meant, but not knowing why they were calling her that. He steps slightly closer. "The Warrior Queen." He says, "You are their Queen, Beth. They believe in you. You're the closest thing they have to a Commander right now. You are what is keeping most of them from raiding this tower and killing everyone in it." Beth doesn't say anything, looking down. "You need to believe in yourself."
"I do." She says, snapping her head up to look at the man.
He gives her a doubtful look. "Do you?" He asks. "It doesn't seem like it. You act strong and tough, but you don't truly believe you are strong enough to lead our people."
"I am strong enough." She says to him, a small amount of anger in her voice. He was questioning her, and she hated it.
He steps closer so that there was only a foot or two between them. "Then prove it." He says, and with a blink of an eye she had the man pinned to the wall with a knife on his throat.
"I am strong enough. You know that." She snaps. "Don't underestimate me, Roan. The last person who did that ended up dead." She says, refering to Pike, who used to think there was no way she could stop him and then she proved him wrong by killing him. "I will kill you, and then I will rule my people. Those people outside are my people, not just yours. I am strong enough to lead them, and you damn well know that."
He smirks slightly at the girl, leaning closer to her, ignoring the knife to his neck. His face was now only a few inches away from hers as he leaned closer. She blinked a few times, quickly before his lips touched her, kissing her. She didn't react for a moment, but then kissed him back as he grabbed onto her waist and she dropped the knife onto the ground, grabing the back of his neck pulling him closer to her.
The kiss wasn't like any other kisses she's had with Lincoln before, where theirs was full of love and passion, her kissing Roan was filled with lust and tention. It was so different than hers and Lincoln's and she didn't know if that was bad or not.
The kiss only lasted a few seconds longer until Beth pulled away, backing up from the man, a slight scared look on her face. She knew she shouldn't have kissed him back but something about him just pulled her closer to him. The two stared at each other for another moment before Roan walked back over to her, kissing her again, pulling her closer to him as she kissed him back. This was wrong, but for some reason Beth didn't want to stop. Maybe it was the tention she knew was between them or the fact that right now was the only moment the two weren't arguing.
Roan places his hands on her hips, pulling her closer as she wrapped her arms around his neck. But after a few moments, Beth pulled away from the man, shaking her head. "Get out." She mutters to him.
"Bet-" He begins but the red haired girl cuts him off.
"No!" She mutters. "Get out! Get out! Now!" She exclaims, pointing towards the door.
Roan sighs and walks towards the door. "I'm sorry." He mutters so quietly Beth almost didn't hear him.
Beth lets out a breath as the door closes behind Roan and she's left alone again. Tears falling down her face as she closes her eyes and holds her stomach before sinking to the floor, quiet sobs filling the quiet room. "I'm sorry." She mutters, though she wasn't sure who exactly she was saying it to; herself, Lincoln or her child.
----
"So you're the new Flame Keeper." Beth says as she walks out of the shadows as Gaia, the girl who stole the flame, took off her disguise. Octavia walked through the door, joining the two girls.
"This is a sacred place. Leave before you get hurt." Gaia says to the two girls, as Octavia walked closer to the girl. Beth rolled her eyes at the Flame Keeper.
Octavia walks closer and says. "Give me the flame." She says, holding her hand out.
"It does not belong to you or your red-blooded King." Gaia says to the Blake warrior.
Beth steps forward a few steps. "No, it does not belong to her. But it does belong to me. I have the Seken's flame. And until we get a new Commander, whether that be me or a new Natblida, the Flame should be kept with me. Where it would be safe."
Gaia looks at Beth and scoffs. "You will not be our Commander until you can prove you have the Nightblood in you, without the blood of Leska Kom Trikru."
Octavia takes her sword out, speaking. "I can't let you leave with it."
"You don't have a choice." Gaia says to the Blake girl. And with that, Octavia and Gaia begin fighting. Gaia then gets the upperhand, hitting Octavia in the face. "Good technique. I know it well."
Octavia then kicks Gaia's feet out from under her and she falls to the ground. Octavia raises her sword, about to strike the girl as Indra bursts through the door and Beth spoke. "Octavia! Stop!"
"Stop." Indra says to the Blake girl. "Put down the sword, Octavia."
Octavia looks over at the woman. "She has the Flame."
"She's my daughter." Indra spoke, shocking Beth. Octavia looks back at Indra, shocked as well. She lowers her sword, looking down at the girl before holding out her hand to help the girl up.
Though, Gaia ignores it and gets up on her own, giving Octavia a dirty look.
"I'll talk to Roan." Beth says to the woman. "If we give him back the Flame, I'll convince him to show mercy. I won't let him kill her."
Indra walks forward, speaking. "Azgeda knows no mercy." She walks closer to her daughter. "Give me the Flame, Gaia." She says, holding out her hand towards her daughter.
"It's around her neck." Octavia spoke up.
"That's nothing, a totem she's worn since she joined the Faith." Indra says to them. "You are interfering in matters you do not understand."
Gaia spoke up as her mother walked a few steps closer. "Wrong. I'm a Flamekeeper. I'm honoring my faith, a faith you once believed in."
"Don't you question my devotion." Indra spoke.
"A devoted follower would die before giving the Flame to an unworthy King, an Azgeda King." Gaia says. "You pervert our faith. Heda would be ashamed."
Beth walks forward. "Then give it to me, Gaia. I won't let him have the Flame. I promise he will not go near it."
Gaia looks at Beth. "How can you keep that promise when the two of you are so close?" She asks the red head.
Beth glares slightly. "I will not let Roan near the Flame. I spoke to Lexa in the City of Light. She told me to lead our people. And that is what I will do, but I can only do that if you give me the Flame and I keep it away from those who will try and harm it."
Gaia doesn't reply to Beth but just shakes her head, not believing Beth as she looks at her mother. "I am doing what is best for Trikru." Indra says. "You would know that if you had stayed and done your duty."
"I was called." Gaia says.
"My daughter was not meant to wander the Earth looking for Nightbloods." Indra says. "My daughter was meant to lead armies. My daughter was meant to lead our people."
Gaia looks over at Octavia with tears in her eyes. "Looks like you found that daughter. You found two." Gaia then looks at Beth.
"Roan sent me here to kill you." Octavia says to the Flamekeeper. "If I don't come back with the Flame, he will send others. And Beth won't be able to stop him."
"If the spirit of the Commanders deems it my time, then so be it." Gaia says. Beth sighed, knowing what it was like to believe in something so much. In a way, Gaia reminded Beth of her Grandmother, Vera. Both, so pasionate about something they truly believed in.
"Indra," Octavia spoke. "Tell me what you want me to do here." Octavia says, walking closer to the two as Beth followed. "Without the Flame, the King, as well as Beth, is vulnerable. We will need to fight to keep them on the thrones, more so Roan than Beth since she has the Seken's Flame." Octavia looks at Beth and Indra. "If that's what you want me to do, I'll do it for you."
"I can run." Gaia says.
Beth shakes her head. "He'll find you."
"Don't throw your life away." Indra says to her daughter.
Gaia looks at her mother. "That's what you said the day I left." She says to Indra. Beth frowns slightly. "You still don't understand."
Suddenly, there was slamming at the doors, startling the group of women. "The looters." Indra says to them as Gaia stood in between Beth and Indra.
"If they find the Flame, they'll destroy it." Gaia says to them as more shouting and banging is heard. "I'll take the tunnel." Gaia says, rushing to grab her things.
Octavia rushes to her. "Wait."
Soon, the doors bust open and all four women have their swords out, facing the small army of looters as they began to circle the women. "Drop your weapons." Ilian, a Trishanakru member Beth recognized, says to them.
"You're making a mistake." Gaia spoke to the boy.
"We just want the tech." He says before looking at Octavia. "No one has to get hurt." Ilian says to the girl.
The four women drop their weapons only to be grabbed by the looters. Gaia grabs her bag tightly as a man steps forward, demanding the pack before forcing it from her as she begs for it back.
The man hands it to Ilian, who goes through it, even as Gaia protests. Ilian takes out the Commanders Flame box. Beth looks at it in worry as he opens it, revealing the Flame.
He takes it out, holding it up as Beth tried to break free from the man's grip. "Let go of me!"
"Please. That's not tech." Gaia says, also trying to break free.
Ilian walks towards the table as everyone turns to him, thoug Octavia spoke up. "Please Ilian, you don't have to do this."
"Yes I do." Ilian spoke as he placed the Flame on the table and backed up a step, causing everyone else to. "For my mother." He spoke before lifting his hammer and slamming it down onto the Flame, destroying it.
"No!" Beth yells at the man, tears forming in her eyes, as the looters all around cheer for the Flame being destroyed. Beth looks wide eyed as a few small tears fall down her face.
The men around them, then begin destroying the whole room.
-----
Beth and Gaia were still in the room as Octavia walked in. "They're gone." Octavia kicks a metal piece and leans down, grabbing the Flame box before walking over to the table, scooping the broken Flame into her hand and walking to Gaia.
"Sorry about your necklace." Octavia says to the girl, holding out her hand.
Gaia holds out hers, containing the real Flame. "Don't be. It was a good plan. Thank you." She says to the girl. She puts the Flame into the Flame box and closes it before looking at her mother.
"You got what you wanted." Indra spoke.
"So did you." Gaia spoke back to her before Indra left, Gaia then walking the other way.
Beth goes to Octavia. "Let me see it." She says, holding out her hand. "I'll take it to Roan."
Octavia raises an eyebrow, "What did Gaia mean by you and Roan being close?"
Beth rolls her eyes. "Nothing important." Beth says as Octavia hands her the broken Flame replica. Beth nods before leaving the room, Octavia soon following. Though, Beth doesn't stop next to Indra, but keeps walking to find Roan.
-----
Octavia catches up to Beth a little while later. Beth had delayed her trip back to the tower, staying down below in the City for a while longer. Octavia held up a sack as she walked over to Beth, who sat at a table. "You still got it?" Octavia asks the red head.
"Yeah, I haven't gone back yet." Beth says to the Blake.
Octavia smiles slightly. "Let's go. I have a plan." Beth smiles at the Blake girl's words. She was happy they were on somewhat good terms now, she just wasn't sure for how much longer they would be.
-----
Beth walked into the throne room, Octavia following behind. The red hairded girl walked to her throne which was next to Roan's and leaned against the side of it. As Roan walked away from the curtains, speaking to the guards. "Leave us." The guards all leave as Roan looks at Beth, who didn't look his way but kept an eye on Octavia.
Octavia walks closer and drops the sack at their feet, opening it to reveal the head of one of the looters. Beth looks away, alomst gagging. Normally, she'd be fine with the sight, but since her pregnancy, she's had a harder time with certain images and smells.
"He was one of the looters." Octavia spoke to Roan. "You were wrong about the Flamekeeper."
Roan looks at Beth, who then looks at him and nods. Roan looks back to the Blake warrior, and asks. "And the Flame?"
Octavia pulls out the pieces of the broken Flame and pours them into Roan's hand. "Destroyed before I could kill him." Roan closes his hand. "I'm sorry."
He throws the pieces into the fire pit next to Beth's throne. "It'll be more dangerous now. More people will have to die to keep me in power, to keep Beth in power, not that that bothers you," He says and looks to Octavia. "Skairipa."
Octavia looks at Beth. "People fell in line behind the Flame. Behind you because you have the Seken's Flame. Now they'll fall in line behind the sword and the Seken's Flame." Octavia spoke. Beth nods at the girl.
"Let's hope Clarke finds a way to save us before they have to." Roan says to the girls. Beth nods, agreeing. "Get out." He says to Octavia.
Octavia looks down before looking at Beth, who nods at her. Octavia nods back before leaving.
Beth sat down in her throne, closing her eyes for a moment, leaning her head back. "We need to talk." Roan says to her.
Beth looks at him. "Eh, do we really need to?" She asks.
He glares at her. "Beth."
"Roan." She says, trying not to smirk. She didn't want to talk about it. She didn't want to talk about anything right now, it had been a long day and she just wanted to relax.
Roan walked closer as she stood up. "C'mon Beth." She shook her head at him and went to walk away but he grabbed her arm and kissed her again. She pushed him away.
"You ever kiss me again, I'll rip your throat out with my teeth." Beth threatened the King.
Roan smirked slightly. "That's not what your reaction was earlier when you kissed me back." He says, laughing slightly.
Beth glared. "You keep laughing, I'll just do it for fun, King." Roan looks down at her lips again and goes to lean forward but she puts a hand on his chest. "I-" She cuts herself off. "Please." She looks up at him. "It's very complicated for me right now."
He gently pushes a strand of hair out of her face. "What is so complicated right now?" He asks her.
And for a moment, she debated on telling him what was going on, with her being pregnant with Lincoln's child, but she chose not to. "It just is." She said and moved out of his grasp. "I'll see you in the morning." She said to him before leaving the throne room. The door closed behind her as she sighed. She looked at the guards before walking away to her own room for the night, her mind racing with thoughts.
-----
4000 words later. Damn y'all I'm so sorry for not updating more often. I've just been so busy with work and everything, I just haven't had time and these next two weekends I work all weekend, so I probably won't update as much then. I'm trying to update more and more but it's just been hard to. On a happier note, Season 6 has started! I'm so excited! The first episode was amazing and I've already been planning for Beth and Season 6 and special returns and everything and I'm just so excited for it! Anyways, COMMENT and tell me what you guys thought of this chapter, and that RoanxBeth scene. What should be their ship name? Roeth? Reth? IDFK. I really want you guys to comment more, and not just for me to update because that gets kinda annoying after a while (not that I don't love that you guys want to read more, it's just sometimes I get really anxious and rush through a chapter just to update it and then it's shitty.) Anywho, Thanks for reading. Bye.
-Kelly.
