IX
Lindethiel wandered around the palace after her recent visit to Mantheniel's chambers. She silently hoped she would pass by the King and calmly lecture him on how much of a pompous ass he was being. Instead, she stumbled upon the only elleth she wanted to kill with one glance. She remembered her dream. Maybe the dead body in her arms had been Arlayna. Maybe that is why she felt good. She shakes her head, passing by the elleth and hoping she would pay her no mind but to her great annoyance, the young girl greeted her in her ever so annoying high pitched voice.
"Lindethiel, right?" She queried and Lindethiel fought the urge to smack her face on the ground. She bows, low and offers the elleth a smile. A smile Arlayna would fear if she knew exactly what Lindethiel was capable of.
"Right, the king is asking why you are not present in the recent patrols?" She asked her and Lindethiel gritted her teeth, her knuckles turning white. Was this girl annoying and daft? Can she not see the injury? Gods.
"I am still restricted from joining the guards by order of the captain," Lindethiel replies, trying to hold her anger. Amusement flickered in the young elleth's eyes before a giggle escapes her mouth.
"The captain has that kind of power?" She asked and Lindethiel sighed heavily before standing straighter and crossing her arms over her chest. She felt the strong need to defend Falasdir.
"Thranduil trust's the Captain," she says, leveling the young elleth's gaze. "He always has. He respects the decision of his Captain as much as he respects him as a soldier and a friend. You will find no one more loyal to the King than the Captain of the guard."
Arlayna's smiled turned into a wicked one, catching Lindethiel by surprise.
"Loyal? I heard the Captain was very fond of the queen before the King married her. "
Lindethiel almost pounced on her. Almost. She would have, if it weren't for the sudden arrival of three people. Legolas, Falasdir and Turwaithiel. They all had determination written on their faces as Lindethiel watched them approach. Falasdir caught her eye and one of his eyebrow raised in question. Seeing the young elleth with the one who probably thinks of killing her every second of the day.
"I guess trouble is here," Arlayna chirps as she bows slightly as a form of goodbye to the half elf, "it was nice chatting with you, Lindethiel." She smiled as the others approached them and walked away. Lindethiel narrowed her eyes at the retreating figure. She was bad news, right from the start.
"What was that about?" Falasdir asked when he was close enough. Lindethiel thought better than to tell him what it was about. She opted to say it... A part of it.
"We were talking about your indiscretions," she smiled at him and Falasdir did not even fight the urge to roll his eyes.
"Where is Mantheniel?" Turwaithiel quickly asks, her head high. She was being pretty fidgety.
"In her room, why?" Lindethiel asked and she noticed the stiff manner Falasdir was in. She turned to him with her own eyebrow raised. "Is something crawling up your pants?"
Falasdir let out a quiet groan of frustration before taking her by the forearm and dragging her inside the closest room, which in this case was one of the small empty rooms made to store small furnitures and ornaments not needed anymore. The four of them squeezed their way into the small room that there was barely enough room to move. Lindethiel moved around uncomfortably. She hated being in tight spots. She hated it even more realizing if she kept moving she would repeatedly hit Falasdir.
"If you were going for 'discreet' you are failing horribly," she scolded the three who merely looked at her before Legolas closed the door behind him. Lindethiel waited for one of them to speak, staring at the silver button on Falasdir's uniform. The image of his chest flashed in her mind and she pushed down the heat that was threatening to paint her face. "Is anyone going to tell me what is going on or do you want the people of this kingdom talking about the four of us forcing ourselves into a tight, cramped up room? You cannot believe what people mind's can come up with with such-"
"Mantheniel needs to leave," Falasdir cuts her off and she looks up to meet his eyes. He was so close and she could barely ignore the way his hand was pressed against the wall behind her, trapping her between him and the wall. She managed a glare. "Lord Elrond has ordered it." He continues but Lindethiel notices the slight movement. The flicker of his eyes on her lips and suddenly the room seemed to shrink. Lindethiel bets Legolas and Turwaithiel had no qualms on the matter. She snickered, despite the position she was currently in.
"What do you find so amusing?" Falasdir asked her, his brows furrowed and Lindethiel rolled her eyes before backing up further against the wall, all the way remaining with an annoyed expression.
"I don't think you' want to know," she answered him before her eyes flickered down back to the silver button. The safest place her eyes could be right now. "What do we do? Have you told the king?"
"Yes," he replied. "Which is exactly why it seems I have something crawling up my pants." Lindethiel smirked and again had managed to find humor in a serious situation.
"So what do we do?" She asked after a moment. Falasdir sighed as Lindethiel noticed Turwaithiel peek through his shoulder.
"We are going to run away," she informed her and Lindethiel waited for any of the ellyn to argue, to contradict and when no one did, she knew they didn't have a choice. Turwaithiel could not be swayed.
"When?"
"Tonight."
This time, there was a reaction. Both ellyn stared at her. They were not told about this part of the plan. Turwaithiel rolled her eyes at their reaction before making a move to open the door.
"I can barely breathe in here," she complains as she opens the door and the four of them practically stumble out, shocking a poor elven maid. She stared at the four of them and at the small room. Lindethiel gave her a wink that seemed to suggest something as her face turned pink and she scurried away.
"Well, at least we can say that we were-" She starts but was cut off when Falasdir raised a hand.
"Don't even," he says and Lindethiel gave a half-smile, full of mischief and almost tempting him to kiss it right off her face. He stilled for another moment, not entirely sure why he was feeling so many things before shaking his head, wanting to shake off the thoughts of her and how she felt beneath his fingers.
"So," Lindethiel begins, feeling the silence drowning them. She felt tension around them and she was sure most of it came from Legolas who was no doubt brooding over the facts revolving around Turwaithiel's plan.
"Tonight?"
"Tonight?" Someone repeated and they both turned to meet Lord Aerendyl by the hall, watching them with amusement. Although the four of them managed to mask their expression of surprise.
"Lord Aerendyl," Turwaithiel greets with a smile that could melt a heart. Legolas just stares at the Lord with a placid expression. Lindethiel watched him warily. This was the man that saved her, or so she heard.
He gave them all a curt nod, a form of greeting before his eyes land on Lindethiel.
"How is your leg?" He asked her and Lindethiel took a moment before answering.
"Still working, thankfully." She replied and Lord Aerendyl grinned, giving Lindethiel the reason why most of the elven maids talked about him endlessly and admiringly. He was handsome. Really handsome.
"Glad to hear that," he says before he turns to walk away but stops and glances back at them. "I am almost certain you are planning something tonight, although I have no business to ask you what it is. But I do hope it is a worthy surprise. I have always heard great stories of the feasts held here."
"Oh it will be," Lindethiel reassures him with a mischievous look to match. He watches her for a moment, weighing her words in her head before smiling and giving her a small nod and walked away.
"You think he is on to us?" Turwaithiel asked with a slightly worried tone.
"Of course not," Lindethiel states firmly as she walked towards Mantheniel's chambers, the three of them following her lead.
"He seems very intelligent though," Legolas voiced out. His own doubts. Lindethiel chuckles and Falasdir gives her a knowing look. Despite not really knowing what she was thinking, he was certain she was right.
"He will not know until its too late," she reassures them as she mentally listed all the things they would probably need.
"And you are sure of this?" Legolas asked, he was not worried about Lord Araendyl finding out. He was more worried about his father finding out.
"Of course," she replies with a hint of annoyance. Elves were really slow sometimes. She chuckles to herself. "No one will expect the queens friends to smuggle her out of her own kingdom. That idea is simply too ludicrous and stupid for elves to ever think of." She explained. She had a point. No elf in their right mind would attempt to do such a thing. Let alone aggravate the King of Mirkwood.
"It is settled then?" She asked, turning around as they all stopped walking. The two ellyn nodded with hesitation as Turwaithiel matched the determined expression on Lindethiel's face.
"Now," Lindethiel begins, glancing around the empty halls. "All we need is a distraction... Or a worthy surprise."
Falasdir was smart enough to dread the words coming out of her mouth but he could care less. He always seemed to like this side of her better.
