Chapter 5.
HUMAN TRIALS.
Beth's POV
Finn, Murphy and I were hiding in a bush watching Lincoln's villiage. They wouldn't listen to me when I told them that our people weren't here. They wouldn't listen. Finn wouldn't listen.
No One's POV
The three were still behind the bushes. It was night now, everyone was inside.
"I count 26." Finn whispers to them.
"I got 28." Murphy says to them.
"There's about 28 yeah." Beth says. "Guys they aren't here. I promise you." She says.
"You don't know that. They could be underground or something." Finn says.
"Finn-"
"Beth. These are our friends." He says. She sighs and shakes her head. Hoping no one gets harmed in this.
"These people don't look like warriors Finn. Kids and old people. Nothing big enough to hold our friends." Murphy says. Beth looks back over.
"He's right Finn. They aren't here. We need to leave." Beth tells him but he just simply ignores her. "I was here. For almost two days. They are not here." Beth snaps.
"Then go back to camp." Finn snaps. He turns to Murphy. "They could be underground. We wait till dark then go in." Finn tells him. Beth sighs, knowing something is going to go terribly wrong.
"We go in. We don't even know if our people are here." Murphy says.
"For once I actually agree with Murphy." Beth says.
"They're here, or they were when the grounder took Clarke's watch. Finn says. Beth shakes her head.
"I mean they're probably already dead." Murphy says but gets cut off by Finn who grabbed his shoulder roughly. "Take it easy."
"How much ammo do we have?" Finn asks.
"You know I think I liked you better as a peacemaker."
"Hate to agree with you again, but so I do." Beth says to Murphy.
Beth's POV
A few hours later, we were in the dark. They had gone inside there huts. I don't agree with any of this but I can't leave Finn incase something bad happens.
Finn grabs a stick and lights it on fire, before walking into the village of Grounders. "Finn." I hiss. "What the hell are you doing? This isn't the plan." I say.
"I'm changing the plan." He says and runs and throws it into their food hut. My eyes widen. The fire ignites quickly, making it spread. We run back outside the village.
"Faya!" A lady yells. Fire. Most of these grounders only spoke Trigedasleng. The Grounder Language. I sigh. I know our friends are not here but what ever I say Finn just won't listen. He wants to find them, he wants to find Clarke.
I watched as they all worked together to put out the fire. I frown. I don't want these people hurt. They helped me and Octavia. They don't deserve any of this. I just have a bad feeling this won't end well. For anyone.
"Distraction, not bad." Murphy says.
"Let's go." Finn says. We hide behind a hut. Hiding as we continue to walk.
"Veida!" A grounder yells, seeing us. Murphy hits him over the head with his gun.
"Murphy!" I scold. I look at Finn. "We need to go!" I say.
"We can't. They'll kill our friends." Finn says.
"They'll kill us." Murphy says.
"Finn, our friends are not here, why won't you listen to me?" I ask. He just ignores me. I shake my head. He walks over to the grounder, picking him up and walking into the open, shooting the gun in the sky three times. Gaining everyone's attention. They hold their loved one's close. "Finn, you are scaring them!" I yell at him. I see Nyko. "I'm sorry." I mouth to him. He nods.
"Who's your leader?" Finn asks putting a gun to the mans head.
"Finn please!" I say. He ignores me. I sigh and run a hand through my hair.
Nyko steps forward. "Nyko!" Some yell.
"Chil yu au!" He says to them. Calm down. He looks back to us.
"ai laik sorry gon disha" I say to him. "Ai do nou gaf in disha krom kom au krom yu stegeda." Nyko nods at me.
"What did you just say?" Finn asks me. I look at him, not answering. "Beth?!"
"Nothing." I say. "But I am saying this to you. I was here, for almost two days. Our people are not here."
"They could be kept hidden. Underground or something." He tells me. I shake my head.
This is not going to end well.
"Our leader isn't here. You can deal with me." Nyko says.
"No one has to get hurt, we just want our friends back." Finn says. I shake my head, sighing. You want Clarke back.
"We don't have your people." Nyko says.
"He isn't lying. I told you." I say. I push Finn away from the man he was holding. I grab his arm lightly then walk over to the other grounders. I walk to Ana, a grounder I met when I was her. "I'm sorry he is doing this." I say to her. She nods and helps the man.
I walk to Nyko as Finn and Murphy check the huts. "I tried to tell them. I did. Finn. He wouldn't listen."
"I know you wouldn't bring him here on purpose." He says.
"It's Lincoln's home. I would never." I say. He nods.
The two boys kept bringing people out of huts and into the middle of the village. Nyko and I were trying to reassure them.
Hours. That's how long the boys looked, not finding anyone of our friends. Hours. Finn herded all of them into a fenced off area. Murphy was standing still as Finn was walking around like a crazy person. I didn't know what to do, so I went in the fenced area with the grounders. Some looked at me in fear. Nyko told them something, I don't know what he said but the calmed down.
Artigas looks around before standing. Nyko and I both stop him. "Stay down." I say to him.
"I told you, we do not have your people." Nyko says to Murphy.
"Stop talking." He replies. I glare at him.
"You find something?" He yells at Finn. He doesn't reply. "Finn! Finn, answer me. Are you alright?" He asks Finn. Artigas stood again, Nyko pulled him down. "Hey! On your knees, get down. On your knees now!" Murphy yells, pointing the gun towards him.
"Du chit em sei." Nyko tells the younger boy. I sigh, kneeling next to the boy.
"Please." I say.
Finn ran and jumped in the fence, holding a jacket. It was one of our peoples. But how? He goes to Nyko. He put the gun to Nyko's head.
"Finn!" I yell, standing up.
"Hey, Finn. Finn come on." Murphy says.
"Their clothes are here. They were here!" Finn yells. I sigh, slight tears in my eyes. None of this is gonna end well. I know it.
Others started to move. Nyko yells. "No! Set raun weron yu ste kamp!" He looks back at Finn. "Your friends are not here. I only saw Beth and Octavia. They were alone."
"Do you believe me now?" I ask Finn. He just looks at me then throws a girl in the mud. Ana. I push Finn away from her. Nyko and I grab the girl helping her. I hand her some cloth. Ana nods at me.
Finn and Murphy were talking out of the fence. I wasn't paying attention. But something Murphy says pulls me into the conversation. "The guy with one eye? Maybe because you had a gun to his head Finn."
"A man with one eye? You saw Delano, he's a snake. Thief. Him and his men were cast out. You are his revenge." Nyko tells them.
"Finn we need to go now!" I yell. He was about to leave but Artigas gets out of the fence only for Finn to shoot him. "No!" I yell. I rush over to him. Trying to stop the bleeding. But it wasn't working.
I hear Nyko yell something and more gun shots. I was sitting next to Artigas. I knew it was Finn shooting. I just couldn't watch. After a few more gun shots I turn around, still kneeling.
"Finn stop this! Now!" I yell.
I see Octavia, Bellamy and Clarke rush in. "Finn!" Clarke yells. He stops. Octavia rushes to me.
"I tried to stop him. I did." She nods at me. "I tried to stop the bleeding but I couldn't." I say nodding to the young boy. She nods at me again. I have tears falling down my face.
"I found you." Finn says. I look and see him looking at Clarke. He takes a step forward but she backs away.
Clarke walks over to me. I stand up and pull her into a tight hug. She hugs me back. "I thought I lost you too." I say to her.
"Octavia told me about Lincoln. I'm so sorry Beth." She says. I nod.
I look at Nyko. I walk over to him. "I'm so sorry. I didn't want any of this to happen." I say.
"I know. But get him out of here." He tells me. I nod.
"I will." I say. He nods.
I turn back to the others. "Let's go!" I yell at the five others. I was mad, but not at Bellamy, Clarke, or Octavia. Hell, I wasn't mad at Murphy. I was mad at Finn. He just killed about 18 people.
We start walking back to camp. I was walking with Octavia. "Nothing good is gonna happen." I say to her. She nods agreeing. "I failed him." I say, staring angrily ahead. "I failed Lincoln."
"No you didn't" she says.
I stop and turn to her. "All he has ever done is try and help our people. And I couldn't save 18 of them." I say. Bellamy walks up, noticing me and her stop.
"Finn most likely would have shot you if you tried to stop this." He tells me. "You would be dead. And then you would have failed him. I may not have known or truly liked Lincoln, but all he's done has protected you Beth;. If you got shot, that would be like you failing him." He tells me.
I sigh and run a hand through my hair. "I couldn't- I couldn't save him." I say, tears running down my face again. Bellamy pulls me into a hug as I cry on his shoulder. "I couldn't save him."
"I'm sorry Beth. I'm so sorry." He whispers.
We soon begin walking back to camp. I was walking next to O and Bell. Everything is going to change. And not for the best.
Another chapter done. Sorry it took so long for me to type it. I have been really busy with other books and I think I'm moving in the next week. But what did you guys think? Please comment. Thanks for reading. Bye.
