20; Apotheosis
"Can you keep him alive?" My brother asked Deaton, indicating to the Dread Doctor lay on the medical table.
"I'm not sure he technically is alive."
"Screw keeping him alive," Liam said, glancing at the doctor before continuing. "How do we get him to talk?"
"Personally, I don't think we utilize torture nearly enough," Stiles stated, causing me to bite back a laugh.
"Come," a low voice suddenly said, causing me to snap my head up in the direction of it.
"You hear that?" I asked.
"Come to me. To me."
The Dread Doctor suddenly sprung up, the sound of high pitched frequencies whirring and making me place my hands over my ears. I dropped to my knees in pain as the whole room shook.
I think I was screaming but I couldn't hear a sound.
I watched through hazed eyes as the Dread Doctor stood up. Pain continued to bounce around my skull, along with the sound of Scott yelling out Liam's name. I watched helplessly as the Dread Doctor shot it's arm out, some kind of force knocking Liam back. I heard the doors slamming loudly, the whole sound cutting through me like a knife. I cried out in pain again, my hand gripping onto the metal table beside me.
I could feel a vision coming on, and I desperately tried to push it back. Suddenly, the metal table flew from my hand, clattering against the door and blocking us all in. Scott and Liam stood up, immediately heading towards it, despite the electricity buzzing and pulsing from it. "Stop!" Deaton warned. Another crackle of electricity sparked as a scream seemed to move up my throat. I swallowed thickly, trying to push it down again. "It's electrified."
An imminent cry escaped between my lips just as the vision surfaced.
The beast, Scott, Liam, Lydia's ear piercing scream.
Electricity buzzed around all of us, the ground shook and cracked between us. The groans of pain and the screams all blurred into one.
A cane clattered to the floor.
I sat up quickly, almost hitting my head against the wall. "The cane," I blurted out. "It's the cane.
"Rebecca?" Scott was leaning over me, my breaths coming out heavy and short. Stiles was by my side too, his eyes searching mine. "Becca, what-what happened-"
My eyes flickered over to Liam, who had previously had an idea of what was happening to me. Then I looked at Deaton, who knew exactly of my powers. Stiles moved towards me, his hand brushing over mine comfortingly. "Hey, you okay?"
I looked up at Scott, who's hand was still placed on my shoulder, his soft brown eyes full of concern. "What just happened?"
I opened my mouth but I couldn't form a single word. My eyes met with Deaton's and I silently pleaded with him to help me out and explain.
"Visions," Deaton stated. "Rebecca's been having visions of the future whenever she's in a high emotional state of mind. It's called empathic precognition. We think it's connected to her green eyes."
Scott looked at me and I swallowed thickly. "Is that how you knew what was happening at the library the night of the supermoon?" I nodded slowly and he sighed, a hurt look passing his face. I now felt absolutely awful about not telling him earlier.
"Why didn't you tell us?" Stiles asked, eyes searching mine. He looked hurt as well, which was not what I wanted at all.
"I tried," I said. "I just- I didn't want to worry any of you."
"Worry us?" Scott asked, shaking his head, a kind smile appearing on his face. "Becca-"
"I'm so sorry," I mumbled as my brother pulled me into a tight hug.
"It's alright," he assured, moving away so that Stiles could give me a small hug too.
"You know, you can always talk to us, right?" He said, glancing at Scott who nodded in agreement.
"Yeah. Don't ever feel like you should hide anything for our sakes, okay? We love you, Bex."
I smiled, looking between the two of them. "I know."
"Sorry to break the moment up," Liam said, causing Stiles to roll his eyes and me to chuckle. "But the cane, it's the pike right? I think I heard the dread doctor and Sebastien saying it outside."
I looked up at my brother. "The cane was clear in my vision, that must be it."
Scott then looked up, a frown on his face. "But the Argent's have the cane."
~
"Maybe there's something in here, something about how he was a Genetic Chimera," Scott said as he flicked through the book on the table. We were trying to figure out more about Mason being able to shift into the beast. I had noticed my brother keep glancing up at me, probably to check that I was okay, but I brushed it off.
"Mason had a vanishing twin," Deaton informed.
"Now we've got a vanishing Mason," Stiles pointed out lamely.
"What does that have to do with him turning into a 250 year old French guy?" Liam asked. "How does that even happen?"
"Hold on, Scott might have something," Deaton said. "Mason's twin wasn't entirely gone. That's what made him a Genetic Chimera."
"The DNA was still there," Scott said.
"Metaphorically speaking, the DNA of Mason could still be inside Sebastien as well," Deaton explained.
Stiles' eyebrows drew together in confusion. "How?"
"Life is energy. Energy doesn't just disappear. The Dread Doctors may have found a way to break the rules of the supernatural world but there are some rules that simply won't break."
"So Mason can't just be gone?"
Liam asked.
"Somewhere in Sebastien he has to still exist in some form. A spark of energy, a flicker of memory."
"Hang on..." Stiles trailed off. "Liam, you said Mason said something right before he turned."
"He said, 'that's not my name.'"
"He finally remembered his name," my brother said in realisation.
"Damnatio Memoriae," Stiles uttered.
"That's what they wanted," Liam said. "They wanted Sebastien to remember his name."
"Scott," Deaton started. "You know the myth of what happens when you call a werewolf by its given name?"
"It turns back to human," My brother replied.
"What does that mean?" Liam asked. "Someone can just walk up to the Beast, yell Mason's name and turn him back?"
I glanced at Scott, remembering hearing the scream from my vision. "Not someone," I said, sharing a nod with my brother, who seemed to be on the same wavelength as me for once.
"Lydia."
~
When I saw Scott approaching, I jumped up, hoping to hear good news about my friend. Shortly after breaking out of the Animal Clinic, we'd gotten a call from my mom about Lydia being badly hurt. All of us had immediately rushed to the hospital but hadn't had any news yet. "Is she okay?" I asked.
"She's gonna be fine, but..." He sighed. "She can't really talk."
"It's over, isn't it?" Liam asked, his voice shaking. "There's nothing we can do to save him."
Scott's phone vibrated and he glanced down at it. "Give me a second."
I watched as Scott headed further down the corridor and exhaled, closing my eyes. "We'll find a way," I told Liam, causing him to glance up at me, his blue eyes watery with tears. "We always find away."
He shook his head. "Not this time. It's over."
"I won't let Mason die. I promise," I said firmly, determined to stick to my statement. "I won't let it happen."
Liam shook his head. "Don't make promises you can't keep."
It felt like all the air had been knocked out of me then and there, and all I could do was stare at Liam, completely dumbfounded. Before I could even think of anything to reply, my brother turned back around to us with a hopeful look on his face. "Get up."
"Why?" Liam asked, sounding like he was completely defeated by everything.
"Because I've got an idea. And because this isn't over."
Liam and I shared a very, very brief look before following my brother down the hospital corridors. We headed into Lydia's room and she looked up, trying to smile at us. "Hey," I said, heading over to her side. "It's okay. It's gonna be okay."
After we'd told her the plan that Scott had told us, and helped her start to sit up, Stiles and my mom crept into the room, closing the door shut behind them.
"Lydia, this is gonna have to be just between us, since I can get fired for it," Mom explained, holding out a needle.
"It's a cortisone shot. It's gonna bring the inflammation down," Scott explained gently.
Mom took the cap off and Lydia held out her wrist. "Not there." She peeled the bandage from my friend's throat and I heard both Stiles and Liam take in a sharp intake of breath as Lydia winced in pain. Bloodied scratches were visible on her neck, making my stomach turn.
"Oh, yeah, okay," Stiles stuttered. "I'm gonna need to leave."
"You're not going anywhere," mom said firmly. "Hold her hand."
"Okay, fine. I'm not leaving, but I still might faint," Stiles said as he headed over to Lydia, taking her smaller hand in his.
"Okay. Here we go," mom said softly as I gripped Lydia's other hand reassuringly. There was a thudding sound and I looked over expecting to see Stiles on the floor but it was Liam who had disappeared. Scott glanced at the empty space where Liam was once stood for a moment before running over. I shook my head. "Okay, Lydia, this is gonna hurt like a bitch," mom warned.
She dug the needle into Lydia's neck and my friend whimpered, her hand tightening around mine. After mom had given her the shot, the boys left and we helped Lydia get dressed. Once we were all ready to go, we quickly headed to the elevator, ready to leave.
As the elevator dinged open, Stiles let go of Lydia's hand and started to go ahead. "Okay. I'll get Malia. Text me when you find Parrish."
"Hold on-" Scott called out before he left, holding out a package.
"What is this?" Stiles asked, taking it with a frown.
"Something I've been working on for a while. Just make sure Malia gets it."
"Okay, is it plan B?"
"It was plan A," Scott said.
"Plan A never works," Stiles reminded rightly.
"This one will."
~
"Scott," Lydia whispered as we headed down the tunnels. I could hear electricity sparking, like in my visions.
"Do you hear that?" Liam asked.
"I heard that," Lydia confirmed.
"Lydia, save your voice," Scott ordered.
"Hey..." I heard Liam start, before turning around. "Lydia, get out of the water!" Without warning, he pushed her to the side, and before I could even react, electricity crackled, pulsing through my body. I felt my joints weakening and I inevitably fell into the water on the floor, groaning in pain.
"Sorry, Lydia," I heard a low voice say. I glanced up, noticing Theo. Alarm bells rang in my head and I immediately started pushing through my own pain to stand. Lydia was tossed to the side by Theo and Scott and I both dived for her before she fell through the threatening gap in the floor. My brother thankfully reached her, grabbing her wrist as she cried out in fear. I grabbed her other hand and we both tried to haul her up until I felt something jab into my neck. The strangely familiar sensation of my body going numb flooded through me and I soon realised what was going on. It was kanima venom.
"Feel that," Theo said, his face very close to my ear. Scott let out a groan, as did Lydia as she realised what was about to happen. "Kanima venom."
"You-" I started angrily as I felt my hand weakening against Lydia's. Her fearful eyes met mine and I desperately tried to hold on.
"Just let it happen, let it go." I was aware of Scott panting beside me as he, too, tried to hold on. I felt my arm becoming number and number and Lydia started to scream out. I let out a groan, wanting to scream out of desperation as well. "Let everything go."
"No!" Scott yelled out as Lydia began to scream. My hand slipped from hers, our fingers merely brushing.
"No, no!" I cried out, trying to push my body forwards again. But it was too late. I heard Lydia let out a scream again and it sounded like it was disappearing. She'd fallen. "No!" I shouted, frantic tears filling my eyes. I tried and I tried to push myself up again but I'd lost all hope. We'd lost Lydia.
A loud roar rang out, the sound travelling through me. "Hear that?" Theo started. "That's the sound of real power."
In my opinion, Theo had to rethink his definition of 'real power.'
~
"You lied to me," Theo struggled out, many painful minutes later. I couldn't lie, it was great to see him so defeated now. Scott, Liam and I had managed to stop him from going through with any more of his devious little schemes and, instead, brought him to Deucalion. "You and Scott."
"That's right, Theo," the older werewolf replied. "The whole time." He removed his glasses and I felt my mouth gape open slightly as he showed his real eyes.
"It would've never worked," Theo choked out.
"It could have worked. With Belasko's talons." Deucalion reached forwards, unexpectedly swiftly snapping Theo's neck and leaving us all stood in shock.
"You broke my neck," Theo noticed, his breaths short as he lay helplessly on the floor.
"And good luck with that," Deucalion replied, before glancing at the three of us. "There's an access grate that leads to the sublevel. I think we can get to Lydia there."
"What about Mason?" Liam asked.
"We can still save your friend."
Scott nodded. "Let's go."
A gunshot suddenly rang out and I gasped as Deucalion grunted, falling against the wall. "This just isn't my day."
"This is a surprising alliance, Scott," Gerard Argent's voice boomed out as he held the gun in front of him. "You and Deucalion? How long have you been planning this clever little double cross?"
Chris stepped forwards. "About as long as he and I have been planning this one," he tossed the cane to my brother, who caught it easily. I stood, my eyes flickering from Scott to Chris to Gerard. I knew absolutely nothing about this.
"What are you doing?" Gerard asked, shock and confusion crossing over his face.
"I knew when I brought you back, it would never be about saving lives. Only about immortalizing your own," he turned to Gerard, pointing his gun. But Gerard pointed his own at him. "Scott, go." Chris ordered. "Go, now!"
My brother hesitated before starting to leave. I stayed where I was, not trusting what could happen. I didn't want anything to happen to Chris.
"Becca," my brother said, taking my arm.
"Wait, wait," I protested, looking behind me for a moment before eventually turning the corner with the others. A gunshot rang out, making us all pause in our tracks. I breathed out in terror, starting to head back the other way, but both Liam and Scott took my arms.
"We have to keep going."
Fighting back my instincts, I stopped struggling and followed my brother and Liam, desperately hoping that Chris was going to be okay. "Scott," Liam said, looking down at the cane once we'd stopped running. "I'll do it."
My brother let out a long sigh. "Liam."
"It should be me. If you get me close enough, I'll do it." He reached for the cane but Scott snatched it back.
"We're not killing your best friend."
"That belongs to me," Sebastien Valet's chilling voice cut through the air like a knife as he stepped towards us in an intimidating manor. "It's a family heirloom. I'd like it back, please."
"It's all yours. Just give us Mason," Scott said.
"Unfortunately, I would not know where to begin. And while I've benefited from his memories, I don't have much use for an alter ego."
I shared a look with Scott and Liam before turning my wrists over, showing my claws.
"You want it?" My brother growled, holding the cane up. "Come get it."
Sebastien's eyes glowed blue and I watched the black smoke form around him before he took the familiar shape of the beast. Liam went for him first, then Scott. I hung back for a moment before diving towards him, aiming a punch underneath his chin. He threw my brother back, causing me to turn my head. I suddenly felt myself falling backwards too, and I slid along the floor, wincing at the burn. Liam landed beside me and the three of us stood up again, all lunging for him. The beast slammed his hands against the floor, sending us crashing against the pipes along the walls. I collapsed on the ground, breathing heavily and feeling my body writhing in excruciating pain.
Sebastien, transformed into his human form again and grabbed my bother by his throat, pulling him up. "You're strong. There's no doubt in that. But none of you fight with a killer instinct. Let me show you how to go for the throat."
"No!" I cried out, hearing an awful crunch. My eyes flickered to the cane on the ground and I dived for it, but Liam had the same idea. He reached it first and I nodded at him to continue.
"Liam, wait," Scott choked out. "We can still save Mason."
"Who's going to save you?"
"What kind of werewolves are you?" Sebastien asked, amusement on his face. Liam growled in anger, lunging forwards.
"No!" Scott yelled. Sebastien reached out, pushing Liam to the floor. The cane clattered beside him and I grabbed him, pausing as I realised Sebastien had inserted his claws into Scott's neck. I dropped the cane in shock, realising how dangerous it would be for me to do anything. I was frozen.
"Marie Jeanne," I heard him mumble moments later, before slowly stumbling backwards in shock.
"Mason," Lydia said from behind me, causing me to glance up. She was okay. Lydia was okay. She was absolutely fine.
Sebastien turned around, storming towards her and Kira. "I think you're gonna need to try it a little louder." I heard Kira say nervously.
Lydia sucked in a deep breath before yelling at the top of her lungs. "Mason!" Dragging out the sound through the air.
My eyes widened as the beast screamed before erupting into black smoke again. I saw a pair of converse hit the floor and Corey suddenly appeared from the walls, catching a stunned Mason in his arms.
A high pitched wail came from the beast again, until it met with Parrish.
"Scott!" My brother snatched the cane and launched it, hitting the beast in the chest. There was a low, loud sound before it swirled into nothing. The fiery glow disappeared from a confused and shocked Parrish. I breathed out in relief, looking between my friends.
We'd done it.
"Is everyone okay?" Scott asked, taking a deep breath.
"Not everyone!" Theo bellowed, catching me off guard. Electricity buzzed around him as he stood watching all of us. I stepped forwards, prepared to fight him if I had to, but it was Kira who rushed forwards. Theo's hand shot out, sending a beam of electricity towards her. I went to scream out her name in warning but she'd already swished her katana, blocking it and sending the electricity back in Theo's direction.
"The Skinwalkers have a message for you, Theo," She shouted over the top of the noise. The crackling of the electricity then stopped. "Your sister wants to see you."
She plunged her katana into the ground, causing cracks to form around Theo. A pair of dirt and grime covered hands suddenly burst out, grabbing him and yanking him down into the hole.
"Help me! No! No! Scott! Help me, Scott!" Theo screamed, trying to reach for something to hold on to, but his hands merely just brushed the air. "No! Scott! Help me!" His voice cracked in fear before his body was fully pulled into the unknown. I could only hear a faint "help me" after that before the floor closed up again.
Theo was gone.

A/N
So, that concludes the penultimate chapter to this book, meaning there is only one left cries.
I'm still undecided on writing a book 3, despite some of your lovely comments expressing that you'd like that. Honestly, I see them, I read them, and I take in the feedback. Whatever happens though, I'm gonna work super hard on this final chapter and you can hopefully look forward to that next week!
xx
