15; Amplification
Sirens wailed ahead of us as Stiles' jeep sped along the road. It was absolutely manic, police cars were everywhere. "All units stay back," Stiles ordered through the radio. "Do not engage. I repeat, do not engage."
Sheriff Stilinski's frustrated voice came through. "Stiles, get off the radio." Stiles huffed and placed it down as more voices came through.
"All unit alert. Wait for back-up. Repeat, no one goes near this thing."
"Unit Five reporting a sighting on Hill Road southbound.."
"Unit Nine, I've got it turning off Oakridge, southbound on Beachwood."
"All units, this is Dispatch. We've got a 911 call with additional sighting on Mitchell."
"Wait a second," Stiles said. "Beachwood to Mitchell?"
Scott breathed out. "It's headed back for the hospital."
Frantically, Stiles grabbed the radio again. "Dad-"
"Stiles, get off this channel!"
"Dad, just listen to me, okay? It's headed for the hospital, all right. He's headed for Beacon Memorial. You hear me? It's headed for the hospital!"
"Stiles, drive!" I yelled. He forcefully pressed down on the gas, making me fall backwards slightly. When we reached the hospital, I jumped out of the jeep, running to the entrance.
"Becca!" Scott shouted after me, the two boys catching up just as I pushed open the doors. The lights were flickering inside, giving off an ominous, haunting vibe. A gun clicked behind us and I spun around to see Sheriff Stilinski holding a finger to his lips, ordering us to be quiet.
There was a faint roar above us and I snapped my head up, trying to figure out where it came from. "Fourth floor," Scott and I said simultaneously.
Sheriff Stilinski headed up there first. The place was a mess; sheets of paper were burning and the whole corridor smelled of ash. A sudden ball of fire flew through the air and hit the wall. The fiery glow disappeared to reveal Parrish. Sheriff Stilinski bent down next to him. "Parrish? You okay? Deputy!"
Scott started to wander off and I followed him, noticing bloodied paw prints on the floor - which eventually turned into shoe prints.
"What the holy hell?"

"What I'm about to show you," Deaton started. "It isn't supposed to exist." He placed some horrifying pictures on the metal table. "This is the only surviving evidence of Dr. Valack's time as Chief Medical Officer of Eichen House. To call it human experimentation would be charitable." I reached over, picking up one of the pictures. "A Banshee," Deaton confirmed. "She died screaming."
"So, he drilled holes into their heads? All of them?" Stiles asked.
"That was the experimentation part. He did it to Werewolves, Banshees, Wendigos, any creature he could get his hands on. And Valack found that trepanation would initially heighten their powers, but to levels that couldn't be contained," Deaton explained.
"So he wants to make Lydia more powerful?" I asked.
"Except she's going to end up like them," Stiles looked down at the pictures, suddenly going paler than usual.
"Worse, actually," Deaton corrected, causing my heart to drop into my stomach. How could it get any worse? "Lydia's abilities were already pretty exceptional to begin with. Putting a hole in her head will be like causing a leak in a nuclear reactor. She'll hear everything. Every death, every dying scream, all at once."
"That's going to kill her," Scott said.
"Not only that. Her own dying scream could be so powerful that it might kill everyone around her as well."
Stiles looked down at a picture, shaking his head. I could practically see the clogs turning in his mind - which is how the pack ended up back at our house with a plan the next day.
"There's four steps," Stiles informed. "We get into Eichen, we get into the closed unit, we get Lydia, we get out."
"And we have to do it all of this while getting past orderlies, guards, electric door locks and a Mountain Ash barrier," Scott reminded.
"You have a plan for all of that?" Malia asked.
Stiles held up the keycard he'd stolen from our trip to Eichen. "I stole this last night off an orderly. But it's useless 'cause they reset the codes each night."
"So why did you take it?" Kira questioned, a bemused expression on her face.
"I'm getting to that."
"The only way to get Lydia out of Eichen is to make that key card work again," I continued. "Obviously."
"How are you going to do that?" Liam challenged.
"We're getting to that, okay, just listen," Stiles interjected, twisting his laptop around to face the others. "I pulled all the history off the key card. Two weeks ago, there was a brownout and the security system rebooted. During a reboot, all of the key cards revert back to a default code. So, if we trigger a reboot-"
"The card goes back to the default code, it works again," Liam finished.
"How are we going to cause a brownout?" Kira asked.
"That's your part," Scott replied. "You're going to draw power from the main line. But only enough to cause the brownout."
"Not a blackout," Stiles confirmed. "Do that and you send Eichen into lockdown which would be bad. Very, very bad."
"There's an electrical room behind the reception counter. The main power line goes into two breakers that run power to all of Eichen," My brother informed.
"Okay," Kira shook her head. "Slight problem. I don't know how to do that."
"That's okay. You have time to practice," Scott reassured.
"Let's say all this goes perfectly," Malia started. "How does a brownout get us into the Closed Unit of Eichen?"
"The system takes five minutes to reboot. In that five minutes all the alarms will be turned off and the key card should work," Stiles explained.
"Liam, you, Bex and I get Stiles to the gate of the Closed Unit," Scott said. "But after that, he has to go on his own. We can't get past the Mountain Ash barrier. And when we're gone, all anyone's going to think is that there was a reboot of the security system caused by a brownout."
"Uh, any questions?" Stiles asked.
"How do we get into Eichen House in the first place?"
"What's our worst-case scenario?"
"What if I can't do it?"
"Okay, admittedly, a lot could go wrong," Stiles said.
Liam tilted his head to the side. "Everything could go wrong."
"Guys, if we don't do this, we lose Lydia," I said. "She's going to die in there tonight."
"And she might take a lot of innocent people with her." Scott added.

Mom picked up some of the body bags, walking over to us. Liam held out his hands to take them but she quickly swerved and handed them to Scott instead. "Just promise you're not coming back in one of these," she said with a deflated sigh.
"We're coming back with Lydia," My brother assured.
She nodded, her voice quiet. "Okay."
"We still don't know who's actually doing this. Who the Beast is," Liam reminded.
"We'll find out," Scott said.
"You think it's someone we know?"
I asked.
"I hope not," He answered.
"You think he even knows he's doing it?" Liam questioned, shaking his head.
"How are you so sure it's a he?" I asked as mom harshly threw one of the bags to Liam.
"You still mad at me?" Liam asked her, causing me to let out a silent laugh.
"No," Mom replied. "But if you try to kill my son or daughter again, I'll put you in one of these myself."
"She's still mad," Liam whispered. I rolled my eyes.
~
"She took out the whole school?" Scott asked in disbelief as Kira and Malia informed us about their very entertaining practice for Kira's part of the plan.
"She took out the whole grid," Malia corrected.
"Look, I failed every single practice try," she sighed and I felt bad for her.
Kira had hardly any confidence in her abilities but she was so great. "This isn't going to work."
"How far can we get without the brownout?" Liam asked.
"The front door," Stiles replied curtly.
"We're going," My brother said.
"Scott, we went through boxes of light bulbs," Kira reminded, sounding like she was on the verge of tears.
"It doesn't matter," Scott assured. "You can do this."
"The key card won't work unless there's a reboot. And there's no reboot without a brownout."
"I know you can do this," Scott said. "Anyone here think she can't?"
"Not me," Liam said awkwardly.
"I don't think she can," I spoke up before giving her a supportive smile. "I know she can."
"I was the one who put you in the plan," Stiles shrugged before glancing at Malia.
"What?" She asked, noticing us all watching her.
"I believe in you too, Kira," Stiles whispered.
"I'm the one who's going to be locked in an electrical room with her," Malia defended before sighing. "Y-You can do it."
"You guys are all crazy," Kira said. "We're gonna die."
"Lydia's the banshee," I reminded. "Not you."
But, she was probably right. Even if I did die though, at least I'd die trying.

"Delivery to the morgue," I heard Parrish say as the car stopped. I held my breath, waiting for the reply. Scott, Stiles, Liam and I were all in these bags with a tiny bit of air space to breathe. The plan was to get us into the Eichen morgue, and then we'd be in from there.
"I don't see you on the list."
"You heard about the animal attacks, right? The hospital ran out of refrigerated drawers and Eichen's got the only other up-to-code morgue in the county."
"Let's have a look."
"I don't think you want to do that," Parrish said quickly. "The stench back there almost made me pass out while driving."
"Open the back of the van, please." I heard a door slam shut and then the bigger doors opening. My heart thudded. "I'll need to log the names off the toe tags."
"There's significant decomp," Parrish countered. "They were found in the county tunnels way past rigor."
"Open them up, please." I heard a bag unzipping, knowing it was the fake one we'd put in just in case. It really didn't smell pleasant and I'd spent the whole journey trying not to throw up, so I wasn't surprised when I heard retching. "No, no. Go, just go."
We were heavy handedly moved about and I stayed still until a door closed behind us. After waiting a couple of moments, I started to place my fingers through the gap of the bag to try and unzip it. Once my head was finally free, I groaned taking in a big gulp of air. Scott was over the other side of the room, breathing heavily. Liam suddenly sat up too and the three of us watched Stiles struggle until his head finally popped up. "Never again."
Scott nodded, looking down at his phone. "Fifteen minutes starting now."
I started to pull myself out of the bag, pausing to watch Stiles struggle. He reminded me of a ladybird that had been turned onto its back, trying to turn over again. Inevitably, he fell off the side of the metal table. I sighed, shaking my head as I looked down at him. "Oh, Stiles."
Once Stiles had recovered from the ordeal we headed out of the door, pausing to check if anybody was around. Upon only seeing empty corridors, we headed to where we were meant to be. Stiles was leading, me right behind him, followed by Scott and then Liam. Stiles suddenly paused, pushing me back against the wall, which made me instinctively pull Scott back too. I realised, to my annoyance, that two of guards were still lingering about.
"What are they still doing there?" Scott hissed.
"I don't know. Their rounds should've ended five minutes ago," Stiles whispered back.
"I can take them," Liam said, causing me to almost choke.
"Right, sure you can."
"No one's taking anyone," Scott said, causing Liam to huff.
"How much time?" Stiles asked.
My brother sighed. "Three minutes."
"I'll just knock them out and hide the bodies," Liam continued.
"Oh, my God, please stop," Stiles said, a disapproving look on his face.
There was an unexpected bang on the door window opposite us and I whipped around, noticing a patient. "Did you take the doctor?"
"What?" Liam whispered.
"Did you take the doctor?" The guy asked. "I haven't had my medication. I need ten milligrams at 8am, 15 milligrams at 1pm, and no more than 20 at dinner."
"You have got to be kidding me," I mumbled.
"We'll get the doctor," Scott assured.
"Dr. Fenris. Dr. Fenris," he said, voice becoming louder and louder. Emotions swirled in his voice. "They took Dr. Fenris!" He proceeded to hit the door two more times, probably grabbing the attention of the guards.
"Shut the fuck up!" I hissed.
"I haven't had my medication," he rambled. "I need to see the doctor. They took Dr. Fenris," he smacked his hands on the door again.
"Hey, somebody shut him up," Stiles commented, nervously.
"I need to see the doctor!" He was now pounding on the window.
"Shut him up," Stiles repeated.
Scott growled, eyes glowing red. The boy jumped back in surprise. Stiles looked around the corner and I noticed a door shutting, meaning the guards had gone. The four of us stepped out, me glaring at the kid that almost blew our cover. As we were walking, the lights overhead started flickering, causing Liam to become excitable.
"She did it. Kira did it!"
"Five minutes to get to Lydia," Scott informed.
Stiles placed his hand on the door, suddenly pausing. "Where's the card reader?" I glanced down, realising there wasn't one. "It should be here. It has to be here."
"They must have taken it out when the Dread Doctors got through," Scott suggested.
"Are you telling me we came all the way down here just to be stopped by an ordinary key?" Stiles hissed. "Are you kidding me?"
Liam shook his head. "We don't need a key. Not if we can break it down."
I glanced at the other two and Stiles shrugged. I nodded, pushing against the door as hard as I could. This probably wasn't going to work but it was worth a try.
"Guys, we're running out of time," Stiles said, checking behind him.
"We can't," Scott said, moving away to catch his breath. I gave up too, stepping back. "The Mountain Ash. It's too much."
"Hit me," Liam suddenly blurted.
My brother frowned. "What?"
"Hit me. I'll get angry then I'll get stronger."
"Hit him," Stiles encouraged. "Hit him!"
"I tried to take your powers. I tried to kill you," Liam reminded. "Hit me."
"He also left you for dead." Stiles added.
"If you won't hit him, I will," I shrugged.
"I wanted you dead!" Liam exclaimed. "I wanted you and Becca dead!"
Scott growled, suddenly swinging at Liam. "Do it again." My brother hesitated before punching him again, causing Liam to yell out in pain.
"It's gotta be harder than that," Stiles commented.
"Do it! Do it!" Liam yelled. Scott hit him, knocking him to the ground once more.
"Yeah!" Stiles cheered as Scott went for another punch.
"You angry?"
Liam looked up, growling. Scott nodded at me. "Let's do this."
I hooked my fingers around the gaps again and used my whole body strength. It was much easier this time and I felt it starting to move. I gave one last forceful push and the door fell down with a crash.
"Stiles, go!" Scott ordered, completely out of breath. "Only two minutes."
"We've gotta get through the barrier," I said, turning to my brother, still catching my breath. "You've done it before, right?"
"It was a life and death situation."
"What the hell and this isn't?" I asked.
"This isn't just a circle," Scott replied. "There's Mountain Ash in half the building." Scott groaned, lifting his shirt up to look at the wound that still hadn't healed from the night of the supermoon. I shook my head with a sigh.
"Stiles and Lydia had five minutes to get in and out. It's been almost ten," Liam said. "The reboot's over."
"And the key card doesn't work anymore," I added.
"And then there's the four security guards," Liam said, looking past Scott and I.
I glanced behind me just as Scott asked. "What guards?"
I gulped, upon seeing about five stern looking men heading towards us. "Those guards."
Scott glanced at me, holding his arm out protectively. A guard walked right up to us, hitting Liam down and tasering him. I then felt a sharp pain and the buzz of electricity in my ears. With a grunt, I lost all balance and dropped to the floor on my knees. I was kicked down and there was a harsh prodding on my back until electricity buzzed through me again. A cry escaped my lips as I looked up at Scott, who's face was twisted in agony. The pain I was feeling and seeing from my brother was becoming almost unbearable. Liam yelled out again and I groaned. A sudden roar erupted from Scott and he stood up, throwing the guards off him. I started to feel strength coursing through my veins and I placed my hands firmly on the floor, standing up to push the guard off me too. I shared a brief look with Liam before Scott whipped his head around to face us. I knew this was game on.
"Come on. We're getting Lydia out of here."
