Chapter 7
I finished getting my uniform on and got in the BTR with Sarah, Todd, and one of my lifelong friends named Jake.
"What do you think about Captain Anderson, Lieutenant?" the drivers of the BTR asked.
"Anderson is a good man," I said, "and though he may seem like he's heartless, I know he has a heart."
The BTR started rolling.
"Lieutenant Rollins, this is Sargent Andrew Dean, neither the air force unit nor the helicopter wing that command promised is over us today. What should we do?"
"Sargent Dean, this is Captain Anderson. The mission will continue on. This is a directive from top brass."
"But the Agape Tank Batallion is getting destroyed! We have no support-"
"Push on, Sargent! Anderson out."
"Sargent, my BTR will be leading the charge. Make sure everyone stays behind me. If we get hit, then fall back and hold a line. We will not be shaken like this. Theta Company, move out!" I said.
Less then twenty seconds later, we were ambushed.
"Lieutenant Rollins! This is the Garza Tank Batallion, we're moving to support your escape!"
"Thank you Garza, we'll be expecting you!" I said.
The gunfire was intense. We were surrounded by the soldiers in the mountains and the enemies on the dirt roads.
A STG Tank rolled up and blasted one of our BTRs.
The one Sargent Dean was in.
It had been disabled but not destroyed, so I decided to run and get everyone I can.
"Todd, come support my advance to the BTR! We have to get Dean out of there! Jake, Sarah, Tom! Cover our advance!" I yelled.
I sprinted under a hailstorm of bullets, and I felt a few graze me. We got to the BTR and Todd fell over, blood oozing from his leg.
"We have a problem, Jake! Todd is down! Todd is down! Get over here!" I yelled.
Jake and Tom moved to help get them out. I stared as they ran, Tom missing all of the bullets and Jake as well.
I heard a sniper shot go out, and I saw a spray of blood come from Jake's neck.
Jake, my next door neighbor and other best friend, died in front of me.
And all I could do was sit there and watch.
Tom rushed over to me and shook me.
"Nathan, snap out of it! We've got to rescue Sgt. Dean!"
We opened the BTR and found all of the people intact- except for Sgt. Dean, who was knocked unconsious.
"Men," I said, "we have two WIA and one KIA. I need you to support me and Corporal Johnson as we get the WIA to my BTR. Can you support my advance?"
"I may not make it," one soldier said, "but if I die today, I'll see you in Heaven. We need to break through the line to get to those people in need, regardless of what happens to me or my squad."
"I agree. I gave my life to Jesus. I'll gladly die for Him." another soldier said.
"Lieutenant Rollins, this is Reaver 3-1. We're on station and are ready to provide support."
"Roger, Reaver 3-1. Where were you?"
"Captain Anderson told us to support his platoon. We didn't know our actual orders until Sgt. Dean radioed us."
"I'll make sure I talk to him," I said, "but right now, take care of that STG. We can't move until it's destroyed."
The next thing I know, the mountainside is being peppered by missiles and bullets. And a wall of flame erupted from the STG.
"All clear, Lieutenant Rollins."
"Roger that, Reaver 3-1. All callsigns, Theta 2-1 is requesting a medevac, we have two WIA and one KIA!" I said.
"Nathan! We have to get them out of here!" Sarah yelled.
"Go with the Black Hawk, Sarah! I'll continue the advance!" I yelled.
