Battle Of Liberty
I walked off just seconds I received the files, I felt my fists clench into a ball.
"E-!" I heard Lance's voice call but he was cut short from someone calling him and Gary.
"Gary! Lance! Check this out!"
I was making my way upstairs and towards my office. I walked up the steps and saw people give me an off look as if I had spaghetti on my face.
I reached my office and slammed the door shut — not intending to do so. I marched around the room before I sat down on my chair. Taking a deep breath, I tried to control whatever was happening to me. This never happened to me and I was starting to get a little shocked by it all.
I got up again and started pacing around my office trying to cool this new attitude. I looked at the files on my desk, the one that stuck out the most was left lying, with another one underneath it.
I started reading through the papers and discovered that two files were very similar. I was scanning through it all again when I reminisced something,
"Emma, you should really calm down. You know when you're calm, it's probably the best side anyone sees."
"I don't know, man. Everything went too fast."
"What do you say, Emma?"
"What do you say, Emma?" I turned my head to the side to see Captain Rifer staring at me. I had a file in my hand and I already knew what he was going to say.
"I'm sorry, sir. Could you repeat that?" I asked kindly.
"I saw you at the conference today and was seeing the thoughtful glances you had. In fact the rest of the force had confused ones. In all means, would you like to be apart of the 'Haroden Department'?" I was quite taken aback by this thought.
The Haroden Department is second in Empire League Force, it was known for the best tactical people ever. With their minds glued onto things, especially with the fact that they can easily solve sudoku within a few minutes. I'd give them six minutes tops.
"You must be thinking why am I giving you the opportunity?"
"In all honesty, I think you're quite smart. I see the way how you deal with cases, files, evidence but why I see most is the concentration and determination across your face. I offered you this role only because I see the way you work hard, independently, with a team you'll probably have no problems to face by yourself. Plus your best friend is there." Captain Rifer added as he made me smile a little at the term.
"You get to be apart of the Forensics Division, if you wish. But the Haroden Department will help you with training, develop more of a quick-mind to try and solve problems, you've got till tomorrow to tell me your decision."
"Thank you, sir." I genuinely smiled.
"Captain, I'm sorry, about earlier." He looked confused before he nodded realising my off behaviour.
"Don't worry about it." He shook his head.
"Oh and by the way, everyone saw you run today. If you join the Haroden Department, you'll most likely have no problems with running skills. You're quite fast, kid." Captain Rifer praised as he walked out the room.
I turned back as I shook my head with a grin escaping my lips. Even without using my speed, I guess I have developed a better running ability.
My eyes fell involuntarily onto the two other files. I breathed out, already replacing the enthusiasm for a much more serious attitude.
I pulled up both files and stared at the both of them already knowing one of them nearly cost my life. I started reading through the files one after the other and tried matching each of them with one another to see any similarities.
I only saw the first two had the similar points whereas the other two were completely the opposite. I furrowed my brows as I stared at all of the files.
I tried to match something with another when I realised there was a small piece of evidence. The age. The first two files were one male and one female and the second two were one male and one female.
I moved towards the file room hearing the sound of muffled chattering from downstairs and the sound of my sneakers patting against the floor.
I grabbed hold of the door and found it locked as usual. I stuffed my hands into my pocket realising that I didn't bring my keys with me. What's wrong with you, Emma?
I shook my head as my made my way down stairs and saw my dad, I started making a dash for it, but he seemed to catch sight of me,
"Em?" I backed up to see my dad looking at me confused,
"What're you doing here?" He asked with his brows scrunched up in curiosity and confusion.
"Work." I slowly spoke.
"You were not supposed to come in today. You're not fit enough to work yet." My dad tried.
"I was called in for some work." I spoke not wanting Cadence to get the fall.
"Well, that isn't an excuse for you to be running around." My dad scolded as I felt my lips curve into a smile.
"Don't you do that." My dad spoke making me smile even more.
"Could I have the keys to the file room, please?" I asked my dad lovingly.
He glanced at me and handed me his keys.
"Thank you, daddy." I called before returning up the steps in a hurry.
"Slow down." He called as I slowed slightly towards the file room.
I grabbed the correct key and placed it into the hole as I turned the key to the right to unlock the door. I closed the door as I entered and started making my way to the draws, seeing it was slightly jumbled. I turned around and checked if anybody was lurking near the corners. When the coast was clear, I turned around again.
I used my speed as I rushed to check the files and placed them in the correct order again, already finding more dirt on all four files.
I started heading towards my office after locking the place, with two files in hand and sitting on the swivel chair. I placed the files down as I started typing away on the computer and researching. I knew I wouldn't be able to find any information like this. I knew I had to dig deeper.
I moved my head forwards to see no one was there. I stretched my fingers before clicking away on the keypad. I saw the computer style differ with a black background, green and white lettering.
After twenty minutes of digging up some data, I started finding a bit more closer into each and different lengths of a few details. But, what surprised me more was that I had discovered something that was beyond petrifying.
My heart rate started picking up a pace, I heard a voice as I quickly deactivated it, already feeling quite anxious.
"Hey, Winchester."
"Are you okay?" Asked the voice, I couldn't say anything.
"Yeah, I'm fine. Why do you ask?" I quickly changed my demeanour.
"No, you're not, I saw you look terrified. What's wrong?" Gary asked already trying to figure out what happened.
I started showing him what I saw and by the looks of Gary even he shared the same expression as me. Petrified and confused.
"This can't be happening, this was dealt with six years ago."
"That's what I thought as well." Another voice entered.
