Battle Of Liberty

We entered a diner and sat down in a booth as Tyler was staring at the menu. I, in the other hand was staring outside the window at the beautiful view.

"Welcome to Kate's Diner, what can I get you?" I turned my head to see Jessalyn standing there with a notepad in hand with a pencil in the other.

"Oh hey, Emma. Is Gary not here?" Jessalyn asked.

"No, I'm here with Tyler, he just joined the force." Jessalyn turned her head to Tyler, I could see she was already shocked by his appearance.

"Sorry, hi, I'm Jessalyn." She nodded as she extended her hand out.

"I'm Tyler. Nice to meet you."

"You too. Are you ready to order?" She asked Tyler.

"Yeah," he glanced at me as I gestured for him to go.

"Number four."

"Two number fours." Jessalyn wrote down as she headed off.

"They all know my order." I admired shrugging as he nodded his head.

"So how long have you worked in the force for?" Tyler asked me.

"Uh, ten months." I gently spoke as I felt my eyes being covered,

"Guess who?" The voice asked.

"Dad,"

"No,"

"Lilly?"

"Definitely not."

"Then it's definitely Gary." I laughed knowing it was him.

"How'd you know?" I felt my eyes being uncovered and there stood a Gary, who turned his eyes to Tyler.

"Hey, man. I'm Gary."

"Tyler, nice to meet you, dude."

The two boys shook hands as Gary sat down,

"So Tyler, how are you finding ECPD so far?"

Our orders had arrived shortly, just as Jessalyn had bought out three plates — already spotted Gary, when he entered the diner.

"Here are three number fours and your selected drinks?" Jessalyn asked.

"Pepsi." Tyler spoke.

"Coming right up." Jessalyn came back within three seconds with one tango and two Pepsis as Tyler and I started eating, Gary joining us after opening his drink.

"Truth to be told, it's quite good. I guess it'll take a bit of time, but I'll get used to it." Tyler answered Gary's question.

"Don't worry, you'll get on fine. By the way, what department are you in?" Gary asked after taking a sip from his Pepsi.

"Oh, Harroden Department." Gary stopped taking another bite from his burger as I was eating my fries.

"Really?" He asked Tyler; nodding his head as Tyler nodded his head sipping on his drink.

"Yeah. What department are you in, Harroden Department?"

"Harroden Department." Gary admitted as Tyler looked quite shocked.

"What a guess?" Tyler grinned.

"How long have you been working in the ECPD?"

"Oh nearly a year, eleven months." Gary licked his lips as he took another bite.

The boys were talking as I had finished my burger and fries. I was currently drinking from my Tango can, feeling the orange burst into my mouth.

I moved to throw my trash in the bin and headed back to my seat, drinking my Tango as Gary and Tyler were laughing,

"...trust me, man, I know how you feel." They both high-fived each other as Gary started,

"Dude, I don't know how they deal with that sort of thing everyday." He shook his head as the two boys laughed.

"Ready to go?" Gary asked me as I nodded my head.

We headed to the cash register where Kate, the boss herself awaited, she smiled happily at all of us,

"Hi guys! How's it going?"

"Great, thank you, yourself?"

"Good, thank you, who is this?" Kate asked scrutinising Tyler.

"This is Tyler. He just joined ECPD today." Gary introduced as Tyler stuck his hand out.

"Nice to meet you." Kate shook his head.

"Kate. Nice to meet you too."

"You've got a pretty cool diner here." Tyler looked around as I saw Kate blush slightly.

"Why, thank you, doll."

"Doll?" Jessalyn, Gary and I quoted.

"Oh hush." We all chuckled at Kate's new behaviour as Tyler pulled out a twenty dollar bill out his pocket.

"Oh no, sweetheart, keep it. It's on the house." Before Tyler could say anything, Jessalyn spoke.

"Might as well take the offer, pretty boy." Tyler nodded his head as we all walked out the door, I was finishing my tango when I received a message. I pulled my phone out of my pocket and unlocked it without looking who it was and what I saw made me put the phone right back into my pocket.

Gliding up the steps of the police station, I entered and made my way back to my office, sat down and got back to work, staring at the computer.

I was typing away when I heard my phone ring, I answered it to be Winnie, receptionist and another secretary of Captain's call.

"Hey Emma, Captain wants you to check your email."

"Hi. Alright." I answered slowly as I placed the phone down and started going through my mail and opened up Captain's email of the details of tomorrow's meeting at the Manny Joe Hotel. I clicked out of it and I saw another email, by someone I didn't know, I opened it up and what I saw made my heart churn, my breathing become rapid.

I blinked a couple of times, before focussing back onto the email, my mind was flooded with different questions that I couldn't seem to figure out.
