Battle Of Liberty
"Let the police deal with it." Derek began breathing out.
"You know we can't exactly do that, dude."
Gary was right, the moment you tell the cops about this person, they won't leave your side without trying to take revenge on you.
"For now, we have to ignore this incident." Gary nodded his head.
"He's right, Derek. The person hasn't tried to come near you which means we can't exactly do anything right now." I used slightly faltering thinking about the handbook, I had to read thoroughly three times.
Derek nodded his head, his phone rang making him pull it out, staring at the blinking screen.
"I gotta go, duty calls." Derek got up, thanked me for the food and headed out throwing it into the trash.
Gary was sipping on his straw on another swivel chair.
"By the way, I heard you stormed into your office and slammed the door." Gary looked up as he saw me staring at him with a look.
I showed him the files and he automatically understood, he breathed out as he placed the polystyrene cup on the desk and stared at the files, clearly interested.
"This guy was locked up in prison but this guy, was that guy." Gary glanced up at me at the second file.
"I don't know what to say, dude. But all I can say is that, Captain really knows that you can dig up these files, unlike Hall. I still remember the time they had to call in replacements because he couldn't do it." Gary smiled reminiscing memories making a smile come across my face.
"I need to tell you something." Gary looked towards me. "I was offered a role in the Haroden Department." The moment I saw the expression on Gary's face, I saw he was completely taken aback and happy.
"That's awesome!" He gave me a fist-bump as we both started talking about what the Haroden Department exactly is. It's practically a group filled with skills and importance in the force. They are practically known for taking down criminals and being praised. They can easily control mind-tactics and acquire a set of skills.
"Well, I better get back to work, see you later, Winchester." Gary waved as he headed out the door as Emma waved back.
I had to get back to work even if it meant being in this sudden angry sort of mood.
"I think it's the side-effects." Freddy spoke sucking a lollipop.
"When Hannah said that Emma would be suffering from side-effects after that nasty wound, I'm supposing she got angry because of it. It's gotta be a side-effect."
"He could be right." Chuck agreed.
"When did you start agreeing on what he says." Isabella arched an eyebrow.
"Hey, hey back off, doorbell." Freddy stated as Isabella rolled her eyes.
"Well, Miss Winchester, maybe Freddy is right. This could be a side-effect, we don't exactly know how your body works now, your metabolism, stamina— it's all very complicated." Dr Flynn stated as I nodded my head.
"So this started when you saw an enemy's-." Dr Fields arched an eyebrow. "-file?"
I nodded my head seemingly feeling like an idiot now.
"Yes, but if I see someone whom I may dislike, I'd never react this way, I never have. I've controlled my anger for nine years now."
"Yeah, that's true, I saw how Emma deals with a situation, no matter if she gets yelled at." Freddy nodded as he took his lollipop out of his mouth.
"Well, since we're done here. Can I go, now?" Isabella asked seeming a little eager.
"Yes, you may." Freddy sniggered a little bit at the last part of Dr Flynn's sentence.
I smiled at Freddy's contagious giggle and saw that Isabella shot him a glare before exiting the cortex.
"Okay, you have to admit that was funny. May, as in Doorbell May." Even if it wasn't funny, Freddy seemed to make it seem like it was silly joke.
"Oh and by the way, Winchester. We need to monitor you're hovering skills, since you you hovered the other day, we should start now." Dr Flynn spoke. I nodded my head, it was currently 7:30pm and I'm sure, Chuck, Dr Fields, Freddy were all ready for this part, even though I wasn't sure how to hover. It just happened.
"Okay, whenever you're ready." Freddy spoke.
I just stood there and felt nothing, I saw Dr Flynn click a button.
"Okay, so we need to work on this. What were you doing when you first hovered?" He asked.
"Uh, I was grabbing a pen to write on the clear board."
"Great, so why don't we try that again?"
"But what if that doesn't work, I mean what if her hovering changes from there — as in she may not just hover at that time." Dr Fields spoke.
"Okay let's try something else."
"Think about hovering." Dr Flynn stated as I did so, but when I opened my eyes I saw I was still on the ground.
"Pretend you're flying and that you can reach the clouds." I saw Chuck try, I was thinking about the clouds and feeling like I'm flying in the air.
"The breeze brushing through your face that you just can't hold back the smile in your face." I felt like I was being lifted up by wires, that when I looked down I realised I was hovering and this time I didn't fall on the ground, instead I was conscious of what I was doing now.
I stared back at the doctors to see them smiling at Chuck and I. Chuck licked his lips continuing as Freddy asked him to continue.
"You're flying in the air and are staring at Elm City, the breath-taking sceneries that are all showing the proud city of where you reside. You see that even if you are seventy feet in the air, the more the stars shine, the feeling of content rests upon you, with the wind following your face." I was imagining all of that, as my eyes were closed — digging up all that information from Chuck; feeling myself going even more upwards.
I opened my eyes, seeing how high I was now, nearly touching the ceiling that maybe I would've dropped last time, but somehow I contained that fright within and stared at Dr Fields, Dr Flynn, Chuck and Freddy.
"Wow, that's pretty high up." Freddy commented.
"Now, how do we get her down, safely." Dr Bray muttered as I was staring at the ground and at the top.
"Hey, Freddy, you know that piece of batter that was torn off. I think I've found it." I stared at the ceiling, with quite utter curiosity.
"Batter? Don't tell me you were making that glue again." Dr Fields arched an eyebrow as Freddy looked around, quickly diverting the attention.
"So, how do we bring Emma down again?" Dr Flynn was amused at Freddy's attempt of changing the conversation but fixed his glasses.
"Well, we're not sure, previously Winchester's movement was caused by surprise."
"So, her emotions lie on it?"
"Maybe, or maybe it's her mind."
"Yeah, like how Chuck was talking about the fresh wind and breeze, indicating the sky, but what if talking about things on the ground, maybe she'll slowly come down." Freddy answered as I was staring at my surroundings for a few seconds hearing them talk amongst themselves about this.
"Perhaps. It's a try." Dr Flynn nodded his head, as he was speaking to the others, in a hushed tone.
"Uh, Emma, you're currently levitating but in order to come down again, I need you to think of the ground, think of the pavement and the floors that you walk on." I did so, thinking in my head about the streets of Elm City focusing my attention ahead of me, feeling my body level to the floor slowly.
"It's working." I heard Freddy whisper. I looked down to see he was correct. Indeed was I slowly coming down.
My feet touched the ground as Freddy was impressed, Dr Fields was quite shocked herself and Dr Flynn looked quite pleased with the outcome. Even Chuck looked quite happy with a small grin rising to his lips.
"You just levitated and came down without falling to the ground." Dr Fields grinned.
"Dude. That was awesome!" Freddy fist-bumped me as he was looking like a twelve year old getting excited when receiving a PS4.
"I couldn't have done it without you all, especially you, Chuck." I gently spoke as I saw him shake his head.
"No worries, it was all you anyways." I shook my head.
"We all worked amazingly. I must admit that true fact." Freddy admitted.
"So we know that Emma hovered because she was thinking of the sky and to come down she thinks of the ground, so far we've cleared that up. I wonder how many more times she'll hover." Dr Fields questioned.
I felt my phone ring, I pulled my phone out and ended the call, as it rang the second time, the number was unknown.
"I'll be back." I moved to the side as the doctors were all talking; answering the call.
"Hey, baby." My heart skipped a beat, "Remember me?" I heard a laugh on the other end of the line.
My fists curled into a ball, oblivious to the cracking sound as I clenched my jaw,
"Still not gonna talk to me? Very well. I see you're a forensic scientist, now." I heard his deep voice state from the other end of the line.
"Don't you dare call me that." I maintained my calmness.
"She's alive!"
"Oh wait, sorry. I heard you were out a coma just a few days ago." I heard a little bit of sincerity through his words.
"We're you trying to hurt yourself like last time on the field. Or was it so bad that you tried to damage yourself and ended up in the hospital bed for eight months, with no friends, that really care about you anymore." I swallowed the shout and ended the call.
"...so she was just saying that you know," Dr Fields ended her conversation.
"I'm gonna go, I'll see you tomorrow." I saw Dr Fields scrutinise my appearance a little bit,
"Hey, why are your eyes red?"
"I guess that happens when you work for a long time in the office near chemicals." They nodded their heads particularly slowly, but I felt that some had their doubts.
"I'll walk you out." Chuck offered,
"It's okay, you don't have to do that."
"You're right I don't but I will." Chuck made the conversation light as we were leaving the cortex and heading towards the elevator.
"Are you okay?" He asked generally.
"Yeah, I hovered today, thanks to you." I smiled at him as we entered the lift.
"It's my job to help others, so you don't need to thank me." Chuck clicked the first floor as the doors were closing. Considering we were on level 600, that would take quite some time.
"So, tell me about yourself." Chuck started,
"What do you wanna know?" I asked as a small smile slipped from my face.
"About yourself, your job, your hobbies? Anything generally."
"Well, my name's Emma Winchester. People like to call me Winchester a lot. I have the same surname as Dean and Sam Winchester." I smiled at that. "I am 22 years old, I have one older brother and one younger sister. My dad is an SSA, I work at the Empire League Force as a forensic scientist, but I guess you already knew some of that." I thought a little as Chuck nodded.
"My hobbies are watching movies and buying shoes —preferably converses." I gestured to my shoes as Chuck chuckled lightly.
The elevator dinged signalling that we had reached the last floor and as we both exited,
"I'll see you tomorrow, good night." He smiled at me.
"Goodnight." He responded as I started walking just thinking about today and already smiled to myself, I felt my phone ring, the vibration causing me to pull it out my pocket and answered it,
"H-." Before I could answer, I knew I shouldn't have picked up the call.
"Already angry? Is that why you ended the call last time? Wait, I know you're not going to answer, because that anger that's rising is just not willing to be unleashed, we all know your problems are worthless, is that why you stopped trying? Saving all your anger in, eh?" I scrunched my brows up in curiosity.
"I know you, Emma. You might've been the beautiful girl everyone wanted to be, boys wanted to date, but you decided to pull your socks up high and kick the ball to the goal scoring one boy's heart. Caleb Harting."
"Even though, you severely might disagree, you knew it was true, fair enough you never were Coney Roc-kingbird, but you are definitely the most athletic girl in school. Oops, I meant were." I heard that voice already and I already never wanted to hear that name.
"No matter what you say, Karina, you'll never what it's like to be someone who lost their passion."
"That's true, but I don't need to be worried, you've lost all hopes." I heard the call disconnect as I was right at my doorstep. I opened up the door and found my family eating,
"Hey honey, how was-" I shut the door, walking past and ignoring everyone.
"-the doctors?"
I pushed my feet up the steps and entered my room, shutting the door and locking it. I was pacing around my room that it was getting to the point that all my sleep was lost.
Shuffling my feet from half way from the door to the desk on the other side of the room as I felt all those flashbacks hit me hard.
'You were the most popular girl.'
'You're not Coney Roc-kingbird.'
'Lost it all.'
I breathed out slowly emptying my head from the most inappropriate comments that I'd received, even if I wasn't in High School, no more and that I was already not always the best, I still held my positive mind up high.
I just kept walking around my room for the rest of the night or sitting down on the desktop chair, seeing the sun rise slowly. I blinked a couple of times feeling my eyes harden, as I already knew what was to come.
My eyes averted towards the clock on the bedside table as it rang approximately two seconds later, I used my speed as I moved towards the alarm and switched it off before sitting down again.
I was sitting for five minutes before I got up and headed towards the bathroom, instantly looking up in the mirror, my eyes were swollen and held a bloodshot redness to them. My cheeks were a slight pink shade and my lips were holding a little colour of pink.
I ignored my appearance as I splashed my face with water and brushed my teeth for ten minutes thinking about something, before drying off and heading towards my room again.
I opened my closet and stared at it for a few seconds before pushing my clothes to two sides and entering, seeing a pair of jeans and a black under shirt. I stared at the blazers and opted for a dark green one as I placed it over my shoulders and sat down on my bed, glancing at the time.
8:30.
I breathed out and got up, placing my phone into my pockets, grabbing my badge and placing it on my jacket as I headed down the stairs.
I ate quite a bit today seeing I was going to be needing the energy, knowing I'd have to eat at least a couple thousand calories. Grabbing three oranges I finished them off and washed my hands and mouth before drying off.
I placed on my converses and headed towards the front door and exited, walking towards work, not wanting to run or drive. I already knew my hair was messed up, because of the state it was in, not brushed, but it remained flat. Even if my eyes were red, that was the least of my worries.
I entered the long road where the police station was, upon reaching I was heading up the steps. I entered through the turn glass style doors,
"Morning, Emma."
"How's it going, Emma?"
"Morning. Alright." I headed towards the elevator doors and clicked the button to the third floor. I waited as the doors shut and started levelling up.
"Third floor." The lady spoke as the doors automatically opened.
I stepped out and was stared with glances turning my way, I also saw my dad, Gary, Lance and Ulrich staring at me quite curiously and quite shocked.
I was going to go to my office, but was stopped when someone bumped into me, dropping papers all on the floor. I stared at the floor as I heard the entire room go quiet. I bent down and picked up a few papers,
"I'm sorry, I didn't mean to bump into you like that." I heard the girl say as I was now getting up, I stopped mid-sentence as I handed her, her papers back.
"It's okay, I'm sorry to-."
