Battle Of Liberty
Truth to be told, that felt good. I pulled my hood off of me and made my way back to where Freddy was. I spotted Hall, Lance and Gary.
"Did you see that?" Lance asked surprised.
I shook my head as I saw him slightly fan-boying over what happened.
"What was that?" Gary asked mesmerised.
"That my friend, is what you call a hero." Lance smiled.
"Don't jump to conclusions, Lance, my boy. For all we know 'it' could be something dangerous." I heard Lane say. He's a really nice detective but I guess when it's down to business you've gotta go with your instinct.
I turned my head as I was searching for Freddy amongst the crowd, but saw the little boy who I saw hugging his mother tightly speak.
"Mommy, the woman in green saved me." I smiled to myself.
"SO, it's a girl, eh?" Ulrich asked curious.
"Imagine having another girl to work on the force with you, Em?" Lance nudged as I shook my head.
"Oh yeah, forgot to mention, there's a new girl in the department. She kinda looks like you."Lance spoke scrutunising my face as he was taking it in and matching it with the girl's face.
"That's what I said." Gary admitted as both boys disappeared off chattering about something amusing.
I started looking for Freddy and saw him standing there with a thoughtful impression, I came over and his gaze changed.
I didn't speak because I already knew what was going to happen?
"Emma, no matter what you did today, you still knew you weren't healed properly. Imagine you being wounded again. Dr Bray and Hannah haven't even found the solution or answer to why you had this injury and why you're healing took an extra two minutes longer." He breathed out as he stared at me.
"But, that was AWESOME!" He grinned making me laugh along with him.
"Actor." He pointed to himself. "But seriously, there's gonna be a call."
"5, 4, 3, 2, 1." I lowly spoke as Freddy's phone buzzed with a ringtone.
"Hey Hannah."
"Get Emma to the Lab now." I saw him breathe out and nodded his head.
"You're in trouble." We both headed to the Lab where both the doctors were, no sign of Isabella and Chuck yet.
"What was that?" Dr Fields questioned.
"It was Emma saving people's lives." Freddy answered.
"Yes, but what is this?" I saw her gesturing to the aqua lighting.
"That's the colour of her speed when she runs, it's an exotic colour." Freddy answered again.
"Yes, Risk, we get that. What, Hannah is trying to say is what was the reason behind blowing up your cover?" Dr Flynn asked quite interested.
"I saw a little boy being taken away in her arms." I answered after a pause.
"Understood." He nodded his head as he walked away.
"Come on, seriously?" I heard Isabella's voice come into the room.
"Honestly, that's pretty cool, you have to agree." Chuck admitted
"It's sports, do you think I'd agree." She glanced at him with a flat expression.
"Guess what happened today?" Dr Fields asked.
"Blondie over here got a promotion?" Isabella answered as I shook my head amused.
"No, doorbell. She ran and saved thirty five people. Children included." Freddy smacked my hand as I saw Isabella stare at the two of us.
"No way." Chuck stated looking surprised.
"Yes way." Freddy nodded with a proud grin.
"Looks like we have a heroine in this city." Chuck spoke making me smile.
"Awh, she's blushing."
"I don't blush." I stated as they stared at me confused.
"I really don't." I shrugged my shoulders.
"Well, congratulations either way."
"Thank you."
"What were you two talking about?" Dr Fields asked.
"Chuck was talking about sports. He saw, Harlow Kiez-" my eyes lit up at that name. "-soccer and football star." Chuck and I spoke simultaneously.
His eyes averted towards me in surprise.
"You know Harlow Kiez?"
"He's one of the greatest players of all time." I nodded.
"This is why I never ask." Dr Flynn shook his head.
"Looks like we've found the perfect pair." Isabella stated.
"What's your favourite move?"
"It has to be the double chopper." I nodded.
"Never seen her this hyper. It's cute." I heard Freddy say amused.
"Mine too." We both fist bumped each other.
Dr Flynn cleared his throat making both Chuck and I turn our heads towards two doctors and two scientists.
"If you two are done fangirling/fanboying then maybe we could get back to work?" Isabella spoke with a tinge of playful laced in her tone.
"We found out why exactly you had a punctured/broken rib bones." Dr Field stated as everyone turned to her.
"It's actually due to a certain chemical."
"Did anyone come in contact with you?" Isabella asked furrowing her brows.
"Anyone might've grazed you." Chuck arched a brow.
"Pushed you?" Freddy questioned.
"Brushed past you?" Dr Flynn narrowed his eyes.
I was going to shake my head to all of these when I remembered something:
"Kissed the wall." Gary spoke placing his hands into his pockets.
As we were walking someone brushed past me, apologising as my brow arched slightly with my head slightly turned to my shoulder as we started walking again.
I don't know how I remembered that, but it was much more of a remembrance than the other ones.
"I was coming back from a party with my best friend and someone brushed past me."
"Are you sure?" Chuck asked.
"Did they look mysterious?" Isabella asked. I was thinking back to that night, when something struck me.
"I didn't catch a proper sight, but they were dressed in black and had sunglasses on."
"Was it something like this?" Dr Fields asked.
They pulled out a tablet where there held a photo of a masked figure with the exact description I had given.
"Y-yeah." I stuttered.
"We'll check through footage." Freddy spoke as he and Chuck dispersed towards the back room as I heard my phone ring, I pulled it out and answered it.
"Hello." I answered.
"Emma, you're needed, kid."
I was already out the door, but didn't forget to hear, Dr Flynn's words.
"Be careful, the wound has healed yet."
I ran I with a mild speed ensuring to be careful and pay heed to Dr Flynn's words. I found myself a block away and started running without my speed, I was happy that the fire extinguished away from the soles of my shoes. I could see a few eyes upon me I was running into the station.
As soon as I entered , I saw police officers chattering and talking to each other, I passed by them and they all looked surprised too.
"Hey, Emma!"
"Hi, officers!" I called back to the group as I slowed down my running and got onto the elevator. I clicked the third floor and heard the elevator music spring into action. My hands were stuffed into my pockets, as a few more people entered the elevator.
I offered them a smile as they greeted me in response. I walked out the elevator as soon as the doors opened to the third floor.
I saw Ulrich as he gave me a warm hug as he asked me about my welfare,
"Good to see you, kid. How you feeling?"
"I'm well, how are you?" I asked with a smile.
"I'm good, good to see you smile. Harvey told us that you were in a severe amount of pain and that you weren't coming in today."
"I received a message from Cadence to come in and take a look at something." I reminisced the short conversation.
"Oh, okay. Well they're all upstairs." I nodded and gave a thank you before dispersing up the stairs running, ignoring the now little pain coursing through my body.
As I was running, I bumped into a hard chest, I found papers scattering all over the floor. I crouched down and collected the papers up, apologising along the way.
"I'm sorry, I didn't see you there." I handed the papers in my hand to the person who was also collecting the papers from the ground.
"It's okay." She softly replied.
I quickly ran off again and made sure not to bump into anyone along the way and found myself near the meeting where all the officers were. I was at the back and this had perks, people wouldn't discover I was here or cut their speech short to see my running in late.
"...the recent activity of where a certain aqua shade streak passed by the streets of Elm City saving over thirty to forty people in the café earlier onwards. As you may know, this isn't the only unordinary discovery that has happened, something in humane was also approached at the café which was the reason behind the captivity of those thirty to forty people. A living being with a power to melt things with their fingers and wears a certain yellow and black co-ordinated colours." I heard Captain Rifer proceed as people were jotting down notes or were taking photographs, mainly the press.
"With that being said, we are working on finding out who or what this person wants. Especially of raiding a café as well known as OCTAF must mean something."
"Especially when the rescuing began she was out." Joshua nodded.
Someone's hand raised up in the air as Captain Rifer nodded his head.
"What made you sure that this Aqua streak would be of good use?" I heard someone say, this was probably talked about before I entered.
"Well, not sure. Truth to be told, if they can save children and adults from something dangerous like the woman in yellow and black then why wouldn't they be able to walk around the streets of Elm City freely."
"Yes." Another hand shot up as Captain Rifer called.
"What made you think that this aqua streak isn't dangerous and may be a threat to the city and the people in here." I furrowed my brows in concentration. This time, my dad answered.
"I know people are worried about this and this new discovery, sometimes it's called figuring out a compromise. Especially, when we can't judge by one incident." My dad stopped.
"We're not letting chances slip, I mean you've already seen the outcome so far." Gary responded with the respected yet calm tone he held. Reporters, photographers were takin pictures of Gary, my dad, Captain Rifer and the place.
"That will be all, thank you." Everyone nodded their heads and started walking out as the press were beginning to leave. I was thinking back to their conversation.
Aqua streak. Compromise. Radioactive Girl.
"I thought they were going to say that this thing was something bad."
"I don't think it is I mean it saved a lot of people today."
I heard a few officers state as I heard them refer to me as 'it'. I breathed out as I walked out the huge conference room passing by a few reporters that were either fast walked and heading out the police department.
I had my hands stuffed into my jacket pocket and I was walking when I heard a familiar voice pipe up.
"Honestly man, I'm not sure. What do you think?"
"Careless. Whoever they are they sure have some skill and love for this city and people to save them all."
I smiled inwardly at Gary's comment as he and Lance were walking.
"And you, dork." I felt my hood being pulled down from my hair, feeling my hair feel light. "Weren't you going to tell me that you came?"
I saw Gary and Lance we both dressed in different attires. Lance was in a blue button down with a blazer on top, dark pants and some laced up shoes. His hair was in it's naturally gelled style.
Gary on the other hand, was dressed a little less formal, but still looking fresh and cool.
His attire consisted of a pair of dark black jeans, a white collared shirt and a blue jacket. He had laced up shoes as well. His hair was slightly quiff to the side.
"Hi, Gary." I smiled at him as his body nodded at this rocking forth slightly before standing in his position. He had his hands stuffed into his jean pockets.
"Hi, Lance." I waved at him as he offered me a wave.
"Hey, Em, nice outfit by the way." He referred to my clothes. I looked down to see I was dressed in the attire I was wearing to the Lab. I kind of forgot, about it.
"I was at the la-." I saw the two pairs of eyes gaze at me wanting me to continue. "-lace — place where my doctors were at." I corrected cooly.
"I only came in because Cadence called me in for some important work." I nodded as I saw him walking and talking to another three workers: receptionist Carl, security guards, Mike and Ross.
"Well, that sucks. I hope you're okay." Lance remembered.
"Wait, what did my dad tell you?" I asked turning my head slightly and holding an amused look.
"That you weren't feeling well and that you had a fever." I was thinking in my head about something when I nodded my head slowly. I could tell Gary was biting his gum trying not to find this funny.
"Oh, okay." I nodded my head.
"Emma, nice to see you, even though you weren't expected at work today." Tara spoke hugging me and looking at the boys in curiosity.
"Cadence called saying that I was needed for some work." I placed as I saw her nod her head before seeming confused.
"Work? Uhm okay. Never mind, how are you feeling? Not bad?" She placed the back of her hand on to my forehead.
"Wow, you are still warm. When you get home remember to drink lots of water and place a cool towel to cool that head down. You do a lot for the force, you should rest." I smiled at her kind and loving words.
Truth to be told, Tara was like my older sister, she had delicate golden hair, sparkling brown eyes and a gracious smile that was too contagious, besides Gary she was my best friend.
"Well, see you later, honey." She hugged me as I wrapped my arms around her, she walked off as the boys stared at me.
"What's your opinion on what happened today?" Lance asked.
"About the Aqua streak?" I asked arching a brow; the two boys nodded in response.
"I think whoever it is may not be harmful at all, in fact I think they care about this city a lot as if it were their home." I tried not seeming to know too much depth.
"You're right, but I still don't get why people are already harassing someone for one good deed. This person or I don't know thing maybe just wants to help and fight crime." Lance admitted.
"They need a cool superhero name, though." Gary nodded his head, I'm already assuming that he is thinking about some mega cool nicknames of what to call the 'Aqua Streak'.
"Ah, Emma. There you are. I need you to find out these files and I need you to start. Pronto." I heard Cadence speak as he handed me four files.
"Whoa, calm down, Cadence." Gary spoke calmly and looking quite astonished.
"Yeah, she just got here and she's not very well." Lance tried.
I was going to say something but I was cut short.
"It do-."
"I don't care about all of that. All I know is that she's here and she's doing her job. Because having a job means coming to work and working, which is what she is supposed to be doing." I heard Cadence bit back nonchalantly with slightly narrowed eyes.
The boys looked quite confused by the change in tone of Cadence's attitude that they kept their mouths shut possibly contemplating of whether to say some thing or to think why he was acting strange. I'm supposing.
"Now, if you'll excuse me, I have some work to finish off." He walked off as I stared at the files. They all seemed way to familiar.
And I already knew one of them.
