Battle Of Liberty
It was currently the next day and I was feeling a little bit better. I glanced at the clock to see it was 6:30am. I threw the covers off of me and was about to get up. Bad decision.
The burning pain on my stomach coursed throughout my entire body. I sat back down and shook my head, before standing up slowly. I had to go to the lab today, because Dr Flynn wants to run a test of what exactly or how this happened.
I moved towards the bathroom and did my usual routine: wash my face, brush my teeth and brush through my hair. However, I did decide to have a shower, since I did feel a little warm.
Wrapping a bag around my injured stomach, I had to take a quick shower and get dressed. I was dressed in a pair of jogger pants, a varsity top in a light grey and a dark grey hoodie. I added a pair of dark blue sneakers.
I left my hair in its natural length and let out and stared at myself in the mirror. My right eye looked punctured and my face looked paler. I shook my head before heading downstairs.
I grabbed a glass and poured some water into it. I chugged the entire contents down as I washed the glass. I grabbed an orange and peeled it away seeing the little squirts of the zest slightly fly, I chucked the peel in the bin and ate the orange slowly in thought.
I moved towards the door and opened it seeing a little kitten standing near the backyard door. I looked around before levelling down.
I saw the little grey coloured green eyed little kitten purr as I started stroking the little baby cat.
"Where'd you come from?" I wondered to myself.
I couldn't exactly leave the little thing by itself, I breathed out as the little kitten fell from my grasp and started running off.
"He-." I stopped seeing where the little kitten was going. It disappeared passing under our fence.
I love little animals, I mean I kind of hang out with big dogs nearly everyday, however, that's not always something people see.
I washed my hands and dried off before walking towards the door. I patted my pockets in search of my phone. I furrowed my brows realising it wasn't in my pockets. I moved upstairs and grabbed my phone and headed downstairs and out the door, before anyone else was awake.
Passing the breezy streets of Elm City and the peaceful early morning. I could still see the sun rising. I breathed out as I was walking staring at the outdoor fountain and the bronze, silver and gold coins planted into the water fountain.
"Excuse me." I looked up to see a boy who looked the same age as me speak.
"Do you know where the, uh, Manny Joe Hotel is?" He asked arching a dark eyebrow up. I nodded my head with a smile.
"I'll take you, it's along the way." I offered as the boy smiled at my kindness.
"Thanks, I'm Matt, by the way." He greeted.
"No problem, I'm Emma." I answered.
"Nice to meet you."
"Same to you." I responded.
Matthew was dressed in a casual outfit, a black under shirt, a dark blue fabric jacket with a gold zip and a pair of black jeans. He even had some sneakers on. However his hair was slightly in a quiff.
"Are you going there for some business?" I asked.
"Hm? Oh yeah my band and I are performing for someone in two days. It's a party. That means we also need to set things up two days before." He nodded his head.
"That's cool, what's your band called?" I asked intrigued.
"We're called-." A phone rang causing the conversation to depart.
"Sorry."
He answered his phone and began speaking into it as we were both walking along the still calm streets.
Matthew pulled his phone away and placed it into his pocket, I heard him speak.
"So, are you interested into any kind of music?"
"Pop, rock." I shrugged,
"Funny you should say that-."
"Ah, you must be Matt?" Someone spoke as I saw we had approached the huge hotel.
"That's me."
"Great, I'll show you around." The man smiled as Matthew turned to face me with a sincere expression.
"See you around, Emma and thanks again."
"Your welcome."
I started walking past the hotel and on my way to the lab with my hands stuffed into my trouser pockets. I reached the big building and pushed the door open and headed onto the elevator. Clicking the button to the correct floor, I waited until the doors open.
I pushed myself off of the elevator wall and railing as I made my way to the main room where I saw Dr Flynn and Freddy chatting amongst themselves, not seeing the others.
Dr Flynn and Freddy's eyes moved towards mine as they greeted me.
"Emma, welcome back." Freddy grinned.
"I see you look a little bit more healthier than yesterday." Dr Flynn noted.
"Let's get you set up, shall we?"
Currently I was sitting on an island as they were all checking my pressure, my breathing, my heart rate, body temperature, you name it. I blinked a couple of times as I saw Dr Fields entering the room with a couple of files in her hands.
"Hannah, did you get the files?" Freddy asked as Dr Fields lifted the, up nodding her head. She handed them to Freddy and Dr Flynn as I was moving a stray lock of hair away from my eyes, as Dr Flynn took a file in his hands, Freddy taking another.
"Well, Winchester, there's good news and bad news, it seems that everything is normal, but the solution to how you received this injury is due to lightning side effects. But it's not something to worry about. It's something new, but it's not permanent. Only temporary. The bad news is that because your body is still getting used to this, it's going to take quite some time to heal." I nodded my head.
"So they may be some off side-effects, is what he's trying to say." Freddy converted.
"This doesn't make sense." Dr Fields furrowed her brows in confusion.
"Emma's recovery from her hand was this quick but when she recently hit it, it took an extra two minutes longer." Even I was curious.
"Her body is probably getting used to it, still?" Freddy inquired.
"How's that possible?" Dr Flynn asked curious.
"I don't think there's a hard answer to that. Do you think it's because of the injury?" Dr Fields asked.
"Can't be, this was done a few hours later."
"What did you eat, the night before?" Dr Flynn asked.
"Uhm, pizza."
"It can't be the pizza."
"I've got samples of Emma's blood from her wound, we could sample those?" Dr Fields shrugged.
"Good idea, Hannah." The two doctors left and went to the lab room whereas Freddy and I were in the room.
"Hey, don't worry about it, they're trained professionals." He assured.
"Oh, I'm not worried about that." I shook my head.
"Then what are you worried about?" He asked slowly.
"Does my right eye look punctured to you?" I asked him slowly.
Freddy took in my appearance with concentrated brows and was studying my face. He moved his hand and turned it over as the back of his palm touched my forehead.
"You seem fine, but yeah your eye does look swollen and your face has turned a sort of porcelain shade."
"I think it's just that I'm tired?" I tried to assure Freddy and myself.
"Where are Isabella and Chuck, they don't seem to be around." I asked slowly looking at Freddy.
"Oh, they had to go to Keyham City, for some urgent work, but they'll be back." Freddy assured even though he looked quite satisfied that they were gone.
"I don't even know why you cared for Isabella's whereabouts, I mean she practically treats you like trash." Freddy made a point.
"Any act of kindness is never wasted. GOD knows your heart and sees it all. Some people may not accept your kindness, but give it anyways." I lifted my head up to face Freddy,
"Most people tell me that I should never judge anybody by their looks or actions, because that's not my duty or job. MY duty is to try and at least be kind to them, not to be harsh or unequal, that's wrong. No matter how many wrongs I do, I can't even imagine saying something bad about someone and not feel bad." I paused. "Do you know what happens to me when I want to say something but can't? My mind jumbles the feelings into good and delicate ones. I've gotten used to it, that I don't need to jumble them up."
"Wow, that- I'm speechless."
"I've never seen you that passionate and gentle at the same time. Sure you're calm but, that was just unexpected." Freddy answered as I smiled at him.
"When you have free time in the office your quotes sprout out." I joked earning Freddy to chuckle.
"Wanna grab some coffee?" He offered as my lips parted slightly, thinking what to say to that response.
"Sure."
We had left the building and were out of A.S.T.R.A.D Labs and making our way over to OCTAF, Or in other words, 'Original Coffee, Tea AND Food'. It was the second best place in town and one of the greatest places to grab some hot chocolate and cake.
I opened the door as I allowed Freddy to go in first as we saw the place was not full, I glanced at my watch to see it was only 7:49am. It will most likely get busy within ten minutes.
The two of us moved towards the front till to see someone nearly falling asleep. Poor them.
"Hi, what can I get for you?" The woman at the desk asked looking a lot more awake, pulling out her notebook.
"The lady here will have cof-" My lips parted a bit.
"Actually, I don't drink coffee." Freddy nodded his head.
"Tea?" I nodded my head with a small smile.
"And I'll take some coffee." He responded.
"Would you like to try our desert selection?" The woman asked looking up from her notepad.
I nodded my head with a child-like smile and eyes as the lady at register known as Julianna giggled.
"One order for-" She looked up.
"Emma." She nodded and noted.
"Emma and you sir?"
"You should try it, it's really TASTY." I recommended.
"Okay." He nodded his head.
"That'll be $12.90 please." Julianna stated kindly as I pulled out a $10 and $5 bill. Freddy was too slow because he was still taking a $5.00 bill.
"What? No- that's not fair." He looked at me.
"Yes it is." I nodded as Julianna took the money and handed me my change back.
"You can owe me another time." I answered as Freddy still shook his head at me.
Our orders came flying in no time and so was the place, it became really busy. I was sipping on my hot beverage as Freddy was trying the cake. I was waiting for his reaction. The moment the fork touched his tongue he looked like he was going to sleep.
"This is so good!" He praised as I flashed him a smile.
"So, what do you enjoy doing?" Freddy asked.
"You don't really talk about yourself or very much at all." He answered glancing looks at me whislt taking in forkfuls of his cake. I scratched my eyebrow as I responded.
"Well, what do you wanna know?" I picked up my fork and took a spoon full of the chocolate Belgian cake.
"Tell me about yourself?" He shrugged.
"In a paragraph." He ended as I licked my lips and spoke.
"My name is Emma Winchester, I'm 22 years old." I started smiling at this. "People like referring my surname to Supernatural, which I'm cool with, since I love watching the show. I work as a forensic scientist at Elm City Police Department, or better known as The Empire League Force."
"You missed one thing out." Freddy spoke pointing his fork at me swallowing the cake as I took another sip of tea.
"You're as fast as lightning." I took another drink of my tea that felt nice and warm.
"What about you?" I asked.
"Okay, let's see. Uh, Freddy Risk is my name." He flashed a set of teeth making me smile along with him.
"I'm 26 years old, I have a degree in biochemistry and took a two month class in acting." I raised my brows a little, a little surprised by this new fact.
"Yeah, this boy wasn't always into science." We both chcukled.
"I've worked in A.S.T.R.A.D Labs for-" He looked up. "Four years and 3 months." I nodded my head taking in these new facts.
"Oh and I was a dork back in high-school." He shrugged drinking his coffee.
"But, I wasn't ashamed by any of this." He smiled triumphantly as I smiled back taking in a mouthful of cake.
"By the way, how long have you been working in ECPD?" I finished my tea and looked up.
"10 months, if you add the eight month coma."
"Whoa and they hired you?"
"I- Yeah." I nodded playing around with my cup.
"So, in total four months?" He calculated as I nodded my head.
"I'm sure, despite the eight month gap, you must've enjoyed the place?" Freddy spoke placing his cup on the table.
"It's a nice place." I finished my cake.
"But, let me guess, it's a lot of hard work?" I threw my plastic cup in the bin.
"You could maybe say that?" I arched an eyebrow as he narrowed his eyes.
"So you don't find it quite hard?"
I tried to pull the correct facial expression but landed on closing one eye and pulling a small frown with my brows.
"You look so adorable, when you do that." He chuckled making me shake my head.
"Don't worry, I'm only messing with you. From scientist to scientist, it gets quite hard but hey, you make funny discoveries along the way."
I heard a loud crash causing everyone to turn around, Freddy and I looking curious as to what it was. What I saw was beyond my thoughts. Radioactive Girl. Was here.
The door was flung open and it almost looked burnt. She was in her radioactvive outfit and looked around as if trying to remember her surrounding. She had a smug and sly grin on her face and by the looks of everyone in the café, they looked petrified.
"Ah, people of Elm City, the second best place to visit apparently-" Lola chuckled. "-well, I guess all of you wanted to lose your lives by coming here." Everyone's eyes buldged at the sound of that.
"And what are you going to do?" A man stood up for himself as everyone was still seated.
She raised both her eyebrows and shrugged, with one touch her finger touched the seat of the café, it sizzling within the next few moments.
"Don't test me again, or else the only thing that won't be destroyed is this seat." She threatened with a serious tone.
People were either on the ground or were near the back trying to hide. Lola looked a lot more happier with a smirk gliding upon her face as she started catwalking inside. My knees were on the ground as my hands were near the table legs, the stools were protecting everyone from getting injured.
"Radioactive Girl." Freddy spoke as I turned my head back to face her.
"Now, where do you keep your phone?" She asked as I saw Julianna hand her the café's phone as Lola only stared at it, she only burnt the telephone with one touch, I swallowed as I heard a few gasps coursing from the crowd.
"It needed renovation anyway." She walked off again as I saw a little child make a run towards the door. Her head rotated to the side as she caught the boy with her gloved hand, managing not to burn him.
"Where do you think you're going?" She asked as the little boy looked frightened.
"Henry!" I heard a worried voice call, she lowered her sunglasses to show her grey orbs. Freddy and I exchanged a look before I was going to go up.
"Henry, eh? Such a funny thing that is, that was my ex-boyfriend's name," she looked to the side, "-until I killed him." I could hear police sirens in the background, the shout of the mother and the little scared face of the six year old child.
"And that's exactly what I'm gonna do to you." She lowered her voice as she lifted her hand, already loaded with a burning sensation, the sound of the little boy's mother calling as others were gasping. I lifted my hood up not going to contemplate about saving a life or letting a little innocent child lose their life.
My eyes lighted up with power as my vision became stronger, lightning passing through my body as my legs automatically started to move, the stool flying to the other side as I caught the little boy in my arms and headed out the café passing the now armed police and placed the child near them before going inside and getting all the other children out.
I also got everyone else out as Radioactive Girl had taken an exit again, I ran to the other side of an alleyway and pushed my back up against the wall and breathed out.
