Battle Of Liberty
"What happened to her?"
"She was struck by lightning and hit by the wave."
"How is she still alive?"
"Emma!" Lilly and Harvey called seeing their daughter or sister being carried on a stretcher with an oxygen mask on her face, her hands filled with cut marks and her skin a slight pale. Her clothes were slightly wet and contained a few chemicals. However something ran through her fingers, a slight bluish aqua light.
With Lilly's crying and Harvey's tear flowing freely. Her mom, Quinn and her brother Derek were both trying to keep the pain in even though it didn't work. Fresh tears sprang out their eyes, as Lilly had hugged her brother. Harvey keeping his wife away from any pain that she might have to see.
The detectives were outside the hospital ward trying to contain their pain and comfort others from seeing Emma in such a condition.
It was all in slow motion, a very bad moment playing in slow motion. A pained one.
The CPR given to Emma was being shot at least three times to give somewhat of hope into her body, to regain her back into consciousness.
Everyone outside the hospital room were prying their eyes away from seeing their daughter, older/little sister, colleague, acquaintance, even friend from any pain that she may be suffering from. But it wasn't worth it as everyone was trying to keep each other calm.
At least an hour later a few people had calmed down, as Lance decided to break the silence.
"Harvey, would you like something to drink or eat?" Emma's dad only shook his head slowly.
"Quinn?" Shaking her head.
"Lilly, Derek?" They both never answered.
"You know, Emma wouldn't like to see her sister and brother not eating anything." The two siblings looked up at Lance as he continued.
"Emma is going to be fine. She's the strongest girl I know." Lance assured as Derek and Lilly looked down, Lilly, with puffed eyes and Derek with a blank expression and bloodshot eyes.
"Could we get some water?" Lilly asked as she spoke in a low voice.
"Comin' right up." Lance smiled quietly as he dispersed away from the hospital chairs.
Harvey was thinking about just today what had happened after Lilly and Emma had gone to see the grand opening of the atomic accelerator.
"Emma's been wanting to see the day that she got to see her inspiration Dr Bray. And it's happened — as well as something relating to science." Harvey chuckled.
"Yeah, she deserves going to see Bray in the first place. She hangs out with us all the time, the poor kid never gets to hang out with her own friends or types of things." Ulrich answered writing something on his desk.
Harvey and Lance chuckled hearing this as Gary shook his head at Ulrich's confusing words. Ulrich may think Emma may be the quiet girl but he surely does understand that she is a smart and intelligent one to know the difference of work and chilling, even if Ulrich may not always understand the differences.
One involved work, the other may involved TV or gaming devices, etc.
"Where's Winchester, Harvey? She should've been here an hour ago. That girl needs to do the analysis for the Khloe case."
"Actually, she's not here, Hall." Harvey answered.
"Why, do you know how much valuable time we're losing because of her." Harvey looked slightly disapproved by the tone of language used by Hall.
"I let her go, Hall." A voice entered the conversation, all heads turning to see Captain Rifer entering the conversation.
"Emma deserves some time off, she's a hard worker and most importantly she has done the analysis reports. I had received them before she left." That kept Hall quiet as Captain Rifer nodded his head.
"Oh, and don't talk about another member of staff in a lower standard, Hall. Emma's capable of doing what you do."
"What run on the streets? Talk to people? Smile." Harvey decided to speak.
"My daughter, refrains from the listed only because she decided to."
"We don't only run on the street, talk to people and smile. We also investigate, we conduct some research, we gather evidence and look through files until we find a culprit, we figure out fingerprint details and all other sorts. Now don't you think if you were in Emma's job, you'd be able to do all of that?" Captain Rifer disclaimed as Hall decided to say one thing.
"Winchester, is a good girl I get it, but her work isn't the hardest. I've seen it myself." Captain Rifer stood there as he saw Hall look slightly more confident.
"We'll see about that." As he walked away, Hall disappeared too, as Lance, Gary and Ulrich looked frustrated.
"How dare that moron think it's okay to judge Emma like that." Gary shook his head in disappointment.
"I feel you, man. Hall just has a few words that he has to express." Lance explained as Harvey shook his head.
"Whatever he said, he sure does owe our Emma an apology. That girl works very hard upstairs in her office digging out dirt for us. She's one of the best members in the force. Like I said you should be proud, Harvey. I know I am." Ulrich smiled as Lance and Gary nodded their heads.
Harvey nodded his head smiling.
Harvey saw a hand with water in front of his face. Looking upwards he saw the comfort filled eyes of Lance, who offered him water.
"Drink some water, Harvey. You'll feel slightly hydrated." Harvey contemplated for a few seconds before taking the cool beverage from his partner's hand and took slight sips from it as Lance was staring at Quinn who was drinking water, Lilly and Derek comforting her.
The doctors came exiting the room, earning everyone to stand up as the doctor stared at all of them in slight disappointment.
"Emma's condition is quite hard to understand."
"What, she was stuck by lightning." Derek breathed as the doctor nodded.
"It's not just that, the huge wave also affected her, meaning there's more complications to figure this out."
"You have to save her doctor. My daughter has done no harm." Quinn wiped her tear as the doctor stared at everyone in empathy.
"We are all trying our best here. We will try to save her." The doctor went into another room before going back into the operation room as everyone sat down in worry, praying for Emma to recover.
"I can't lose you again, Emma. I nearly lost you once, I cannot lose you again." Harvey quietly spoke as he was staring at the door to the operation theatre.
Within a two hour period doctors exited and had come back into the operation theatre, Gary was thinking about a few things, Emma's condition as well as the fact that her family were more upset and heart-broken about the state their daughter was in currently.
"Harvey Winchester. I'm Dr Flynn Bray." Dr Flynn Bray – or known to be as Emma's inspiration spoke as Harvey studied Dr Bray.
"I know you may be thinking, that whatever that is happening to your daughter is my fault but I am assuring you, it was a mishap."
"You know Dr Bray, my daughter always looked up to you. Ever since she knew what science was, she read so much about you, she wanted to be like you. You are her inspiration. But I'm not sure about now." Harvey explained in a calm state.
"I feel bad that many people are hospitalised because of this, I see your family and friends; colleagues are here too, I feel bad about all of this. Rest to assure you that, Emma will be fine, if you allow me to help her."
"Why would I do that, Dr Bray?" The doctor came out making everyone turn to him, he only held a disappointed look.
"Miss Winchester is in a coma." Harvey's heart broke, Quinn's voice was trapped. Lilly's tears stopped and Derek's mind went blank.
The entire police force that were in the hospital looked pale and petrified after hearing this news. A few seconds later, Dr Bray convinced Harvey.
"Because the doctor himself said Emma is in a coma — she's not stable here, my team are very well skilled in this background."
"I want my daughter to heal, I want her to know that she's alright and can continue what she loves doing, being in the criminal and forensic division, being at home. Safe."
"And I will try and help, Harvey, my team and I will most definitely help Emma recover, because like you said you want her to know that she's alright. That's exactly what we do at A.S.T.R.A.D Labs."
"A.S.T.R.A.D Labs, I heard Emma say something about that."
"Advanced Scientific Technological Research Analysis Development Laboratories." Dr Bray answered as Harvey breathed out.
"Could we see her?" Quinn asked as the doctor nodded his head.
Quinn and Harvey went in first as they stared at their daughter who had scratches on her hands, her forehead had a bandage wrapped around it.
The usual bright yet calm face of Emma was replaced with a pale, dimmed colour, her rosy pink lips exchanged with a pale shade.
Quinn grabbed a hold of her daughter's hand and smiled at her.
"You know Emma. Even though you may not tell me everything anymore, I'll still be here for you."
"I know you can hear me sweetie, please hold on, I know you can get through this. We're all praying for you." Quinn assured as she gave her eldest daughter a kiss on the forehead as Harvey stepped forwards.
"The greatest forensic scientist I know till date. You're a good kid, Emma. You always have been. But I need you to get better quickly, honey. I normally don't call you that, I call you my super hero or super-heroine; you're going to get through this. We're here for you, sweetie." Harvey kissed his daughter's hand and forehead before exiting the room.
Derek and Lilly went in as Dr Bray was standing awaiting for a response.
"How skilled are you?"
"Very skilled, I assure you, Harvey. Emma will be fine in no time. We pray." Dr Bray assured as Harvey nodded his head. Whilst they were in the hospital room, before Harvey had explained to Quinn everything about Dr Bray, as she accepted knowing that she wanted her child to stay safe.
