Battle Of Liberty

My dad and Lance had already left the room, as they were telling Captain Rifer about what they discovered, I took a seat at my desk, looking back at the files, when I had received a phone call.

I stared at the caller ID.

Gary

I unlocked the phone and placed it upon my ear, hearing the voice of none other than Gary Avenue himself.

"Winchester, get down to Jungle Avenue, you're needed."

"I'm on my way." I ended the call as I grabbed my forensic bag and headed out the office door. Climbing down the three flights of stairs and exhaling out. I rushed out the main doors of the station, hauling the bag up my shoulder.

I picked up my pace as my converses were patting on the concrete ground as I brushed past people, bumping into a few along the way,

"I'm sorry, ma'am."

"Watch where you're going!"

"Sorry." I apologised as I started running with the forensic kit on my shoulder, reaching Jungle Avenue to see police and detectives awaiting there.

"CSI has arrived." Someone yelled as I showed my badge to the police officer near the police tape.

Going underneath the yellow tape, I saw my dad, Lance and Gary standing there writing things down or staring at the crime scene in front of them.

"Winchester, you're here." Lance called as my dad and Gary turned around to face me.

"Why were you late?" Agent Hall asked sternly.

"She was doing something for me." My dad saved me from embarrassing myself.

"Did you get me what I asked for Emma?"

I glanced at my dad to my pocket as I pulled from my pocket mints and handed it to my dad as I answered.

"These were the best ones I could find." He nodded his head breathing out slowly.

"Do your thing." Gary allowed as I crouched on the ground opening the forensic kit and placing on my black gloves.

Staring at the tire marks and mud left behind, I started analysing the area; seeing the numbers and words invading my mind already knowing what had happened.

"Tire tracks, Bridgestone tires, 225 50r17." I could see through my peripheral vision that Lance and Gary were surprised by my great effort of knowing this.

I rested on the ground seeing the spot and could smell something intoxicating. Pulling out a stick from the forensic kit, I grabbed a sample piece and placed it into the evidence bag.

"Nitrous oxide. Or laughing gas."

I stood up as I placed the forensic bag over my shoulder again, as Ulrich spoke, pointing his notebook at me.

"You've got skill, kid." He paused. "You should be proud, Harvey." Ulrich stared at me and my dad as he gave me a smile.

"You don't smile a lot." Cadence, another police officer spoke staring at me as I stared up at him. I saw Lance and my dad stare at him before at me.

"Or talk."

"Cadence, I need you to come with me to check if any witnesses may have seen the car theft." My dad stalled as the two started walking away.

"Don't mind Cadence, he just likes to talk." Lance tried but realised what he'd said.

"Not a good example."

"It's alright. I'm used it." I shrugged as Lance stared at me with warm eyes and half a smile.

I started walking back to the station with my bag on my shoulder, seeing a couple of new moments, a few new faces. I placed a couple of change into the guitar case as someone was playing a song, they smiled at me as I nodded my head and walked off.

I may not seem like the type of girl who speaks or smiles a lot, but the girl who is too focussed onto her work. That's not the case, but instead I am an average girl, who enjoys her job and does what any other person would do. Eat, sleep, drink and work if so.

"Afternoon, Winchester." Captain Rifer greeted earning me to look up at him.

"Afternoon, Captain." I walked up the steps and turned right along the corridor where it was open, to see the reception, the elevators and all. I carried on walking until I reached my office and took a seat, taking off my bag. I was staring at some files, when someone came entering the door.

"You were supposed to help me with my dissertation." I moved my head towards the door to see it was Lilly, my sister. She was dressed in a pretty dress, with her hair out in medium length curls.

I collected the test tubes that were placed on the desk further away from me as I had my black gloves on.

"Sorry. I was-." I placed the test tubes in the test tube holders and covered them.

"You forgot."

"No, I was doing the last parts of the analysis." I answered taking off my gloves after placing them in the bin.

"And you aren't ready for the grand opening?" I stared at Lilly in confusion before I realised.

"Come on, Emma, you've been wishing to go to this for the past three months."

"I know, this job makes you engrossed into it." I admitted.

"Go change, quickly. The grand opening starts in two hours." Lilly scolded as I nodded my head, fast walking out of my office and into the elevator pressing the ground floor button as the doors closed.

Waiting for the doors to open again, I heard the elevator music, appear. The gold walls held a slight sparkle with the crest of The Empire League Force engraved. The wooden flooring laminated holding a nice neutral setting. The elevator doors opened as I started fast walking, back to the house passing by adults and children.

Opening the door, I moved up the steps and grabbed my outfit for the special event going on today, by one of my favourite doctors, Dr Flynn Wright. My inspiration.

Throwing on my black shirt, a blue blazer and black jeans, I kept on my black converses. Leaving my hair in its natural straight state, I looked at myself in the mirror, seeing the 5,8 girl with long straight hair and soft eyes.

I stared at my wrist filled with only my watch and two bangles. The other held a bracelet. One that meant something. Something a long time ago.

I started heading down the stairs and out the door but stopped seeing my mom. She was smiling at me as I tried to return one back, I exited the door and started walking through the sunny streets of Elm City. I felt my phone ping, taking it out of my pocket, I stared at the message.

'Emma, come quickly!'

I started moving a little faster towards the police station again to see Lilly waiting there, with her phone in her hand and her eyes flickering through both sides of her view.

I was walking now towards her when she stared at me breathing out in relief.

"There you are, let's go, before we're late." I nodded my head,

"Looks like you're more eager than I am."

"Of course, your my sister and I'd do anything for you. Even go to this mind-blowing event, with you." I smiled at my sister as she gave me a soft chuckle and spoke,

"Let's go." As I allowed her to go in front of me, as we were walking towards the biggest moment for all of Elm City.
