Battle Of Liberty
"Winchester!" I shot up right from my slumber as my hand accidentally whacked the mug filled with water falling onto the ground. In pieces.
I leant down to collect the pieces of plasticine up in my hands as Lance Gerald, called, the partner of my dad at this force. Empire League Force.
"Have you figured out what had been inserted into the Julian case?" Glancing up at him and back at the mug pieces, I answered his question.
"Yeah, I'm just waiting for the report to finalise." Collecting the pieces, I threw it in the trashcan and washed my hands, drying them.
I heard the beep from the machine as I grabbed a pair of clear gloves, placing them on and heading towards the machine and staring at the contents inside it, before moving to the computer.
Clicking a few things, whilst Lance looked curious but stepped forwards. My eyebrows furrowed slightly before I saw the connection between the substance found in Robert Julian.
"It's carbon monoxide." I breathed out staring at the monitor and going back to the machine, pulling out the test tube.
I sucked in a deep breath and stared at the chemical and at the monitor. Clear gas indication with a toxic of grey fumes.
"What's wrong?" Lance asked looking slightly confused.
"Carbon monoxide was found inside of Robert Julian."
"What? But that doesn't make any sense. Robert wasn't even near any carbon monoxide that day." Lance explained looking serious now.
"What if he was but it wasn't in the location where you found him."
"Then we need to check the place thoroughly again, we may have missed a certain clue to Robert's incident." I placed the carbon monoxide inside the test tube holder far away from my desk as Lance started running off.
I followed after him calmly as the force greeted me with a smile, I of course returned it back.
"Ah, there's my favourite girl. How are you?" I bumped into my dad as I saw him gleaming at me.
"I'm good." I smiled at my dad.
"She's going with me back to the crime scene."
"Why?"
"We think we've missed a certain clue about Robert's clue, something that could lead us to the main culprit of this case."
"Wasn't it just natural death?" Lance shook his head.
"Right, let's go." Getting out of the station and into the car, we headed back to the crime scene where we saw a couple of police officers in patrol duty.
Lance, my dad and I showed our badges, well, mine was clipped onto my jacket; as well resurfaced back to the area where we were at a couple of hours ago.
I entered underneath the police lines and started searching for any clues around the place, from the walls to the furniture. I was about to leave when my foot tripped over something. I looked back to see there was a tiny glass container.
I crouched down and collected the item in my gloved hand and stared at it a few seconds hoping it was the clue. Looking underneath the sofa, I found three more bottles and checked if any were underneath the cushions of the sofa and saw a note.
Standing up again, I moved back to where my dad and Lance were. Once they had spotted what I had in my hands, they looked somewhat surprised.
"There's a note."
I handed it to my dad, but he told me to read it instead.
"Paul, we may never meet but if we do, remember that Joseph was the main culprit for your every doing. He tried to pull you along in his dark game, but I always made sure I blocked him from ever trespassing you. Just remember, I love you, son."
I read off as Lance and my dad started thinking when all of sudden something sparked up within them.
"Paul. I saw something about a Paul Wright the other day on Robert's stack of papers, it was paper number two, I was searching for a paper when I spotted a file on someone called Paul Wright. Do you think he may be our first lead?" Lance asked.
"That's one we're going to have to stick to." My dad answered.
"Alright, Emma, you go and check out the file back at the station whilst Lance and I will do some background check on this Joseph. See if anybody knew who he may be or maybe get an answer as to why he came to see Robert."
I nodded my head slowly as I headed out the doors and underneath the police tape, walking back to the station. Don't get me wrong, I'm not the best runner, especially when it came to sports. I took off my gloves and placed them inside the bag, as I continued to walk.
I was passing by a few monuments of Elm City and the beautiful scriptures at the bottom.
'Elm City, home to adventurous yet good people'
I smiled as I saw that and started seeing the station up ahead. Pulling the bag up from falling down, I climbed up the steps and into the elevator, tapping the third floor button, as I awaited for the elevator doors to close, but during that point someone's hand blocked the doors from closing as Agent Hall entered, with a coffee and newspaper in hand.
"Ah, Ella, ain't it?" I pulled the forensic bag up as I shook my head.
"It's, Emma, sir." I saw him grimace in confusion.
"Call me, Jeremy." He paused. "You don't talk much, you know, that. It's good to be socialising and having communication skills especially during a job like this."
"You know Ella, I like your shyness, but you need to talk and interact a lot more." I listened to his words as I saw my floor reaching. The doors opened and I stepped out hearing Agent Hall speak.
"Take care, Ella."
"You too." I exhaled as I headed along the corridor and placed the forensic bag into the floor as I entered the room labelled as,
Room 68-72. Files.
Seeing the approximate amount of 57 filing cabinets in here, I started opening the first draw up and searched for a file of someone named Paul Wright.
When I didn't see a Paul Wright in the first, third, eight or tenth draw, I stumbled upon a fifth draw, crouching down and opened it seeing a couple of files of missed names.
Phillip White
Ginifer White
Holden Wistful
Paul Wright
I pulled out the file as my eyes lingered on the name, I received a call and pulled it out, turning it over, seeing it was from my dad.
Unlocking to answer the call, I placed the silver phone onto my ear.
"Emma. I need you to pick out a Joseph Walter file. We may think he's the main culprit to Robert's death."
"Okay." I nodded my head as my dad hung up, I gathered the file into my grasp as I checked out a few more draws and found another Paul Wright as well as a suspected Joseph Walter.
"Gotcha."
I gathered all three files and my bag as I headed out the room making sure, I locked it. I started walking along the hallway towards my office as I placed the bag down and sat on my chair, placing the three new glass bottles not the chemical converting machine, getting up and sitting in front of my desk.
Looking at all three files, I opened the first one which was Paul Wright and started processing the words and a known description on him, before moving towards, the other Paul Wright and seeing another description about him.
The images of all three had no connection to one another. I breathed out and turned around, looking at my office. It was huge and held a distinctive vibe.
The moment you enter you see a huge glass window straight in front with bars, shelves on the left hand side pushed back, near the side of the window, a desk with a computer and a few files. On the left further down was the machines and chemical area. However on the right was a board.
I turned around on my chair and looked at the board filled with different notes, gazing at the board filled with many notes of things I have to do or just certain cases that are mainly pinpointed.
I pulled the string up and then stared at the true meaning of this board, a story filled with lots of memories once. With newspaper articles, happy photos and memories rest a happy person who many used to know.
I blinked away before the terrible flashbacks could occur as I pulled the string down to reveal a once yet again note filled board.
"Ah, Emma. What have you got so far?" I turned my head to the side to see my dad and Lance enter my office with slightly red cheeks.
I moved towards my desk and took hold of the three files, passing them to my dad and Lance. The both of them scrutinised the three files as I started to explain.
"Paul G. Wright. Red head, blue eyed, 5,7. Has one long scar running down his lip." I stated as I saw my dad reading the first file.
"Paul R. Wright. Blonde haired, blue eyed, 5,9. Has a birthmark on his arm replicating a ring shape." I spoke in my normal hushed tone as Lance was reading the second file.
"Joseph Walter, brown haired, New Jersey, 6,5. Hollow blue eyes and scar on his eyebrow. Evicted for different crimes."
"Looks like our guy." Lance understood.
"Hey, are you okay?" I stared at my dad and nodded my head.
"Yeah, why?"
"You seem a little upset." I shook my head slowly.
Lance looked up and stared at me trying to find something, I'm presuming.
"Are you sure?"
I nodded my head with a smile as Lance decided to talk, making me think back.
"So, what were these two Paul's evicted for?"
"Paul Gullivan Wright was evicted for stealing a car belonging to a cop and got punched by a girl all at the same time."
"Ouch."
"Paul R. Wright, was evicted for something he never did. Take ownership to something, a murder."
"He was framed?" Lance slowly spoke as I nodded my head my lips in a straight line.
"Well, thank you for finding these. This helped a lot. Have you run the tests on the three new evidence?" My dad asked just as the beep ran off.
"Looks like it just has." Lance smiled as I manoeuvred towards the machine, placing on some clear black gloves where I took it out only to see it had not made a difference.
I shook the tube that had the chemical in it, only to see one had worked, the other two were needing a bit more time. I closed the lid of the machine and moved towards the glass bottle as I saw there was a match evident in the chemical gas.
Moving towards my computer, I clicked a few things until a match had came up. I knew it.
Sodium Hypochlorite
Used for household purposes, bleach — disinfectant.
"It was sodium hypochlorite-."
"Household bleach?" I was cut off by Lance as I nodded my head.
"Julian inhaled it or forcibly had to drink it."
"I just need to wait for the fingerprint analysis. Two out of three has been slightly completed, just need a little more time to know who all three belong to." My dad and Lance nodded their heads reading the files into depth discussing it whilst I moved back to the machine, I pulled one out and did it the other way. Dusting some finger print powder to see some fingerprints revealed. I placed the three bottles underneath a machine as I started clicking away on my computer waiting for at least thirty seconds to show me that there was a match.
The computer beeped finding a match, I opened it to see it was none other than Paul G. Wright.
I looked towards the two men in my office to see they were looking right back at me.
"Paul Gullivan Wright."
