Bait and switch

Monday morning.

Alright.... You can do it... You've practiced this all weekend ... I told myself... Taking a deep breath before opening the school doors, greeted with a sight of everyone on their phones. As soon as I stepped in, everyone's eyes went to me.

"Oh look! It's meatball girl!" Felix whispered to his three lackeys.

"Hey loser! Did you see this post on Facebook?" One of them, Gustave , mocked me.

"Yeah, and it's not just this account, but..." Arnold added, pulling out his phone and showing me multiple different posts on Facebook, all with the same humiliating photo of me covered in pasta, hurling cruel and insulting comments.

"So, should we call you meatball girl from now on?!" Felix sneered, echoing throughout the corridor resulting in laughter.

I felt the temperature on my cheeks rise rapidly, and my cheeks almost matching the colour of Autumn's hair.

WOULD YOU LIKE ME TO ADD YOU AND YOUR FRIENDS ON MY REVENGE LIST BESIDES LILY  FELIX?!!! I PROMISE IT WOULDN'T END WELL FOR YOU!!!

Swipe! My bag yanked from my back.

"Hey!" I reacted, turning behind, with a sight of Felix, a smug look on his chiseled face holding my bag, his other hand unzipping it and rummaging through my belongings.

"Aha! Found it!" He cried, fishing out my notes and English folder, pulling out my english essay assignment, which was due today. "Now I wouldn't have to worry about being lectured from Mrs wilson! Thanks for your notes and homework loser!"

"Please give my stuff back!" I begged, wearing a mask of submissiveness and desire for mercy, forcing my body to tremble and my knees in contact with the ground.

Splash! Cold liquid landed on my shirt.

My head rose, facing Felix's smug face and his hand holding an orange can with the label 'Orange ice cream soda. '

"Oops! Spilled my drink! Sorry meatball girl!" Every word oozing with sarcasm.

"Yeah and thanks for your cheat sheets!" Edmond sneered, waving them in the air.

"And your homework! Hope you enjoy being punished by Mrs Wilson!" Felix added before tossing me back my bag.

During English class....

"Alright class, please take out the essays about bullying I assigned to you last week!" She instructed.

Instinctively, bags were lifted from the floor, files of all sizes fished out and opened, pulling out pieces of full sketch papers stapled together, scribbled with long paragraphs in dark blue ink.

"I'm sure we're going to pass!" Diamond whispered confidently to lily and autumn, both their heads in Diamond's direction. "Totally, I just hope Mrs Wilson doesn't find out the nerds did it for us. " Lily agreed.

What? Getting the nerds to complete their assignments? Those poor nerds! They were probably peer pressured or under Diamond's spell!

Luckily for them, Mrs Wilson was about 2 rows away, collecting scripts one by one, and went unheard by her due to old age.

"What about you, Colette?" Autumn asked, her voice travelling a few rows back to Colette's desk.  "I'd rather do it myself. I don't want to risk getting in trouble for handing in homework I didn't even do myself. " She replied.

Colette preferring responsibility over dependence? That's quite impressive, especially for one of the most beautiful and popular girls in school. She may have a heart of ice, but at least she's more than a pretty face. Perhaps this could explain why she managed to score b's for majority of subjects during our first year exams and now managed a C average despite her grades dropping.

But my thoughts were focused on Felix as he handed in 'his' assignment to Mrs wilson.

"Where's your question paper Ms Walker?" Mrs wilson asked as she collected mine.

"Sorry Mrs Wilson, I lost it. " I apologized.

Next English period (3 hours later)...

"Alright class, since many of you are either failing for barely passing, I marked through your papers after our first period this morning so you would have more time to revise and go through your mistakes. " She explained, before distributing the huge stack of papers to us individually.

"Alexis and the others at the back, standing out as usual, along with... Felix. " She  announced, dropping jaws in class.

WHAT?!!! But how? With the formula...?

"Felix, can you please come forward and explain your assignment to the class?" She asked him.

Felix rose from his seat confidently, strutting to the front of the classroom and sticking his tongue at me in my direction when Mrs Wilson's head turned before facing his direction.

"Urm ... Teacher, where's my paper?" He asked, scratching his head since the whole class excluding him received ours.

"It's with me. " She replied, gesturing to the teacher's table.

"Can I have it back first?" He asked.

"No. Since your essay was impressive, i would like you to explain it to us without the essay. " She replied.

Without the paper? Pfft! Let's see if you have what it takes that Felix!

His cocky demeanor transformed into something extremely different.

"Urm... Bullying is about picking people, tripping them... Punching them... Er..." He stammered, the temperature in his cheeks rising, his eyes rapidly darting around the classroom.

"Is that all, Felix?" Mrs Wilson asked, raising an eyebrow.

"No... Err... There's more..."

"That's enough, Felix. " She cut in sharply.  "The fact remains that your paper... " She held up a sheet marred with vibrant corrections, all in bright red ink, revealing it's sloppiness for the world to see. "20 out of a 100 percent, And is this even your handwriting?"

"Urm... Of course!" He stuttered before changing the topic, "but... What about Alexis?"

"Alexis? You shouldn't worry about her. She's one of the brightest students in your year , " Mrs wilson replied.

A wave of pride surged through me as Mrs wilson continued. "She scored a 95 out of 100 , second highest in this class, just 4 points behind Nathan. "

"What?! But... How?!" He reacted, his jaw dropping to the ground and scratching his head.

Next time, be careful whose essay you try to pass off as your own, because you've gotten a mock essay instead! Yes, it's long, with elaborations of bullying and it's reasons, but all formats are reversed! Never underestimate an ex nerd (in terms of 'social status' )!

As a top student and everyone's favourite target, the chances of this happening is Incredibly clear. So I wrote not one, but two essays. The first which I've handed in myself to Mrs wilson , and the second... Oh Felix, you should've checked my math file instead...
