A hint of a possible redemption?

Friday:

It's been a week since lily ditched me for the popular crowd , and our class had a new seating arrangement based on the last exam's results. The top students, mainly the nerds and geeks, including me, now an outcast, were at the back , the majority, the average students, in the rows in between the second and last two rows. While the struggling ones were seated at the first two rows, lily and diamond's clique along them, excluding colette, whose grades went downhill as well , but still managed to get an average of 78, a c plus.

I noticed her attendance had been improving since being caught playing truant with Eric, along with Eric's , much to everyone's astonishment. I even overheard from the nerd table one recess that Eric would be forced attend summer school if he fails, which might explain his presence. But...

"Alright class, this is the cosine rule, a square plus b square..." Mr Maxwell, our math teacher explained during maths period, demonstrating the method using a scalene triangle written on the white board.

"...Eric and I decided to go to golden steakhouse for our date..." Lily interrupted, her voice cutting through the classroom.

"Miss Johnson, can you please quieten down? You can talk after class. This is extremely important in your next exam and is 100 percent confirmed to be tested in your next exam!" Mr Maxwell asked, gentle but urgent.

"Hello, do I look like a care?" Lily asked, her head  facing diamond now at his direction, displaying annoyance.

"Yeah teach!" Autumn agreed, her  green eyes glued to her nails. "Math is for nerds, which we are obviously not!"

"Listen ladies." Mr Maxwell began, trying to rein in their antics. "It doesn't matter what your social standing in school is. You're here to learn, and it applies to everyone in this school, and you three better buck up. Especially you, autumn, you've been failing all your classes, and the only thing saving you from retention is your average of 61, which is a d minus, and nothing to boast about."

Turning to diamond, "and diamond, beauty and fame are appealing traits to have , but they aren't everything. "

Finally! Someone is correcting diamonds behaviour!

Could this be a first sign of redemption for diamond?
