Chapter 14- Lost
Jokers POV~
When we got home it was still very early. The adrenaline rush from the mornings events had subsided to a low buzz but I was still too hyper to sleep. Bats seemed to feel the same way because the moment we stepped out of the car and into the Batcave he busied himself with the task of finding out why everyone's radios and phones had stopped working.
I however decided breakfast was more important that this. Despite my hyperactive state I was too lazy to cook, so when I got to the kitchen I immediately headed to the cereal cupboard. I knew by now that Bats doesn't like to eat when working so I didn't bother to make him any. I picked out a chocolate based cereal in the shape of little crocodile feet and couldn't help thinking of killer croc. I grabbed the milk and a bowl and then gave myself a generous amount of cereal. I added the milk, put it back in the fridge, and then sat down to eat.
The food wasn't exactly the fanciest thing but I loved it anyway simply because I was eating it in a place I felt safe and, dare I say, loved.
I realised that I knew what each cupboard in the kitchen contained and where every cooking utensil could be found. This minor fact may not have meant much to anyone else but for me it was a huge deal. I never thought I would be able to stay here long enough to consider it a home, even though in reality I hadn't been here that long it still meant a lot.
I finished the food and decided to wander back downstairs to the batcave. I reached the door that hid the secret base and entered. The door itself wasn't exactly hard to find but to open it you needed to pull on a book on the bookshelf opposite wall. It didn't take me long to figure that out and it took me even less time to figure out you needed to pull the book labeled Chiroptera. The scientific name for bats.
On the other side of the door is stone stairs that lead down to the cave. I heard Alfred and Bruce talking once I reached the bottom and I walked over to join them.
"Did you find out why the radios aren't working?"
"It appears that a huge surge of some form electrical energy has torn across Gotham and is causing interference between all local forms communication. Phones, radios, TVs and anything else that connects to the Internet is out and since we don't know where it's coming from we can't stop it. We can't even trace it because it blocked all our equipment!" Said Bruce. He racked a hand through his hair in what I assumed was frustration. Alfre looked equally worried but was trying to mask it for Bruce's sake.
We had no way of contacting the rest of the family and I had no way of comforting Al or Bruce. I felt so useless.
-------------------------------------------
I helped Alfred with the chores for the rest of the day whilst Bruce worked on tracing the signal of the electrical interference. I was grateful to spend time with Alfred and despite everything we actually had a bit of fun whilst cleaning. I couldn't help but worry about the Batfamily as well but I remained hopeful that they would be back by dinner...
Dinner came and passed and they still hadn't returned.
Bruce barley ate and Alfred didn't even scold him for it. Even I had nothing to say in this tense situation. I had know these people for years, sure I had only come to care about them recently but I still couldn't help the lump that formed in my throat at the thought of losing them. The dinning room was simply too quiet without Damian's constant chatter and Tim's stupid arguments with Dick about hot chocolate and other trivial things.
When the time came that everyone normally went to sleep Bruce stayed seated in the main living room. He said that he wanted to stay up and wait for the others. I'm not sure if he wanted me there or not so I left just in case. I don't want to intrude on his family. So I said my good nights and headed off to bed.

Batmans POV~
The clock on the wall told me that it was past midnight. This meant I only had 8 days left to find the kidnappers otherwise Gordon and possibly the rest of my family will die. I lost my family once... I won't lose another.
Jack had left for bed a few hours ago but I had kind of wanted him to stay. He would have helped lift the crushing loneliness that I currently felt. Still, some part of me was glad that I wouldn't have to be alone with him, I still don't know how to act around him! What are we to each other now and does that even matter? Are we in a relationship? Do I ... love him? I don't know. I think have been in love before but it didn't feel anything like this. I'm not sure if that means that I haven't ever been in love and this is what it really feels like or if this isn't really love at all. The real question is; Do I want him to love me back?
This is all too confusing. I focused my attention back to the issue at hand and immediately felt guilt for forgetting about my family. I suddenly became aware of a presence standing the door, it was just Jack but that didn't stop me from getting scared for a few seconds. He was standing halfway into the room, almost like he was unsure about his decision to come in.
"What are you doing up?" I asked. He looked somewhat shaken and I automatically started to worry.
"Remember when you said that if I ever felt like attacking your bathroom I should come and see you?" He said quietly.
"Yeah?" I understood now where this was going.
"I feel like attacking your bathroom." He finished sadly.
I patted the seat next to me and he slowly made his way over. He sat down and I wrapped my arm around his shoulders. I'm not going to pretend that I didn't feel him flinch before he leant against me.
"Was it a bad dream?" I asked gently.
"Yeah..."
"You wanna talk about it?"
He shook his head so I didn't pry any further. We sat like this for a while just listening to each other breath, the silence was comfortable and neither of us wanted to break it. I decided that I liked having him close like this, it felt nice and comforting despite my worries for my family. Maybe I did lov-
"Hey bats?"
"Hmm?"
He sat up and looked me in the eyes before leaning forward and kissing me. My heart skipped a beat and my face lit up. I was a little shocked by his boldness and he broke the kiss before I could react. He laid down on his back with his head on my lap, he was bright red and looked absolutely stunning.
"S-Sorry I just wanted to test something." He said smiling shyly up at me.
"I'm not complaining. What were you testing?" I smiled back.
"When you did that to me the first time my heart felt funny, I just wanted to find out if I felt the same if it was me who kissed you." His eyes shifted away from mine and he was still bright red.
"And did it?" I asked.
"Yup."
We talked for a while about stupid things whilst I played with his hair. I could feel myself getting very tired but I refused to go to sleep. Jack seemed to be unaffected by the lack rest but that didn't surprise me.
Almost a full hour passed before we heard a door shut. We glanced at each other and then bolted for the door. We skidded down the hall and stopped at the front door. My heart was beating wildly as I stared at the source of the noise.
It was Jason.
