chapter 7. The Founder of New Gotham.
Chapter seven.
Bibbo former heaven weight champion can't remember when he seen his bar this busy and yet subdued.
Nobody wanted to go home.
At least not the folks who did not want to be alone on this hell of a night.
That's a lotta people in suicide slum.
All glued to the TV's above his bar.
"Turn it up Leroy!" Perry ordered from his bar stool.
Bibbo's old regular loving having an audience to show off for.
"Will do, Mister white." Bibbo's son answered. Found the held together remote with duck tape and turned the volume up.
"Don't wanna miss what are distinguished mayor has to say."
White smiled and sipped his beer.
"Hey Bo! When you gonna get some new TV's in here."
Bibbo shrugged his big shoulder's and answered.
"As soon as they stop working."
Bibbo couldn't understand why this raised a few laughs.
Mr White raised his glass to him.
"To-shay Bo when you run for president you got my vote."
"Hey, Everyone quite down, the mayors about to speak." Leroy announced all heads looked up and chatter was died down by Mr Whites hushes.
All eyes watched as Mayor James 'jimmy' Olsen stood in front of the worlds press and began to speak.
"As off now by the power of the president I have taken full commend of this city."
"Metropolis city council and deputy majors our under my direct command during this state of emergency."
"Despite this great city of ours losing it's favourite son and I am honoured to say... my best friend....His spirit still continues to lives on."
"His strongest strength he has left behind to help us carry on."
"Four simple words have guided all of us through this our darkest night."
"What would superman do?"
"Once I said these simple words the burden of command lessened and I knew exactly what needed to be done."
"My first order of command is the lifting of the road block.-"
The Mayor paused and everyone in the bar felt the anger rise in his voice.
"- I do this despite our city councillors ungrounded fears on potential radiation contamination of this city!"
"They inform me better to risk a few of the survivors lives than risk contamination!"
I say our first duty is to save ..ALL survivors!"
Claps raised from the reporters and a few in the bar.
"We will deal with so called radiation contamination ..IF... and when it occurs."
"The president has given me the power to confiscate all funds necessary to rebuild Gothams inhabitants lives."
"He has also giving me full control of ex corp to do as I see fit. As I speak Lex corp is moving billions in aid to the south side ready to take in all Gotham's two million plus survivors.
Wayne industry's have also pledged all their assets towards this enormous emergency."
"I have also received aid from all major cities in America. Many willing to take as many Gotham refugees that we can send them. I have turned their generous offer down."
"Gotham is gone. But can we live in a world without Gotham?"
"Should we allow terrorism to destroy everything Gotham meant to America or should we say..."
"No!"
"I have been informed that the city of Gotham is to contaminated to ever be inhabited again. So we can't raise her from the ashes. But as long as her people remain so I swear will Gotham."
"I will use all the funds it takes to rebuild her. I will build it here in Metropolis out off the abandoned dock lands and underdeveloped south side of our city."
"Metropolis will build a new home for all of Gotham's refugees."
"A new seventh borough."
"Metropolis the city of tomorrow welcomes all goth-hammers to start their new future."
"Our city will be your new home."
"Your New Gotham."
"Now enough talk."
"Let's show this world what americans do best after our darkest night."
"It's daylight."
"Time to get to work."
The mayor stood down from his podium and his aids rushed him off before reporters could ask any questions.
The bar grew quite. Then the roars and huh-ra's started. The bar filled with the roars of chatter and optimism.
Bo noticed everyone's spirits were up but Perry who looked gloomy into his glass.
"Hey Mr White why so down this is great news!" Smiled Leroy who also noticed Perrys humour.
"Why?" Perry asked him.
"Well their gonna pour in loads of money, build a whole new borough. Lots of new customers. It's the investment south side has been looking for. An end to Suicide slum.
Finally have a decent low crime neighbour hood for our kids."
"Hope your right kid." Perry replied putting down his glass and throwing on his coat and hat.
"Funny how all those well meaning well to do northsider's are throwing all these poor refugees into the southside."
He paid his tab and waved his change.
"Me I don't think their getting rid of suicide slum. I think their just making it bigger."
He smiled said his good byes and walked out.
