Hostage
Apparently Jenny was taking too long to fill the bags with money, because the assailants were getting angsty. Their twitching fingers showed just how nervous they were getting, the longer it took, the more chance that a passer by might get the police.
Alexis was huddled behind Jason in the corner, he was watching the men closely, and as they tried to do a sweep of the room he started inching towards them slowly.
She inched along behind him until they were almost at the next table to theirs. The gunmen, and her ex dates, started to turn to look at them, so she pulled Jason down to sit at the table closest to her.
The gunmen blinked at them, obviously trying to figure out if they'd been sitting at that table before.
She saw a slight flare of recognition go through his eyes, as he recognized her and obviously Jason as well.
It was then that the first sounds of siren filled the air, obviously the police had been notified.
The two thieves glanced at each other, and in one smooth move they separated, with one of the twins grabbing the almost full bag from a terrified Jenny, and the other marching towards her.
Jason growled deeply when she was hauled up by the arm and a gun pressed to her head.
" We're taking her as hostage, any police chase us and her brains will be all over the street!" Peter announced furiously, his voice carrying around the store.
Jason moved to stand but the gun was pressed closer to her forehead.
" Don't move or she dies," Peter hissed to Jason lowly.
Jason sat back down slowly, nodding to her captor easily.
Alexis wasn't worried in the slightest, the second she was out of the cafe she could use her powers without every seeing and totally nail these guys, in a way she almost felt sorry for them. However she had to play the ' terrified hostage ' part, and so let a few whimpers past her. This caused Paul to press the gun closer to her head, and Jason to growl something unfit for these pages.
Slowly, Paul backed up and signaled to his twin, causing them both to be moving towards the door, and an escape. She was pulled along, and grimaced at how awkward her steps were.
" You can let her go, I'll be your hostage!" Jason called after them, fury in his green eyes.
She almost felt bad for her captors, judging by Jason's look, he would murder them slowly for taking her. Just like in the movies, the answer was predictable.
" No, she comes with us," Paul snarled lowly.
She was tempted to roll her eyes at this, ugh, could they at least refer to her by a name, and not just ' her' or 'she'.
She made sure to look worried as they made it out the door and were met with the police surrounding the cafe. Apparently they'd been told of the situation. Commissioner Gordon himself was standing at the front of the police barricade, his black handgun drawn and aimed right at Peter.
She saw the commissioner's eyes widen as he recognized her, and a look of anger pass his face when he noticed the gun firmly pressed to her forehead.
" Let the woman go, you're surrounded! There's no way you can get out of here," Gordan growled testily, gun still steadily aimed at Peter.
In the corner of her eye she could see Jason stalking slowly out of the cafe with a frying pan in hand, and almost laughed at his murderous expression.
Okay, now Peter's hand holding her to him was squeezing too tight, she'd definitely be fixing that right away.
Closing her eyes, she allowed herself to heat up slightly as her power over flames came in to handy. Whenever she was about to shoot flames at people, her skin heated up as a side effect, as long as she didn't actually allow the flames to appear, her hot skin would work just fine.
Peter jolted behind her, hissing out a curse and letting up his grip slightly, staring at his reddened arms in surprise.
" The hell!" he yelped.
Instantly she slammed her booted foot back in to his....sensitives... giving Jason all the opportunity he needed to barrel forward and slam Peter to the ground. His twin brother was similarly tackled by the commissioner when he turned to see what had happened to Peter.
Alexis had to act, she had to be the scared woman saved by the oh so valiant police force and another hostage, because of course she hadn't contributed to the capture at all.....
She made tears well up in her eyes as though she was a scared young woman, wincing internally at the stupid facade she had to make.
Gordan handed off Peter's brother, who he'd tackled, to another officer, and came over to her with a worried look. Just as he reached her and was about to speak, Jason came running over and she, playing the shaken woman, surged forward and hugged him tight.
While at first she'd thought he wouldn't be the huggable type, she realized that in fact, she no objection to hugging him at all, he was actually quite warm. Now that her heated skin had died down she was freezing.
" You save me," She murmured softly, gazing up at his face with wide brown eyes.
" I wouldn't let my ballroom chick down," Jason murmured back teasingly, making her snigger slightly.
" Ha ha, vey funny. Now, can we please get out of here," Alexis sighed, pulling out of the hug and giving him a pleading look.
He grinned cheekily at her, and moved to ask Gordan if they could leave, he didn't want to stay longer than necessary either.
" So long as you both come in to testify at the trial, you're free to go home," Gordan answered kindly, giving her a smile over Jason's broad shoulder. " And Jason, you did good tonight, you and your date both. I'll make sure your old man hears of it," Gordan chuckled.
Jason snorted with amused laughter at that imagery and sauntered back over to her. Together the two made their way to where their motorbikes were stationed next to each other, just waiting to be ridden home.
" I'll make sure you get home safe," Jason assured her, causing her to roll her eyes at him and smile.
As they roared down the road, weaving through the streets towards her apartment complex, which surprisingly was his apartment complex as well, she couldn't help but think that while shed been held at gunpoint, this was still the best date she'd had out of the group her mother had set up.
Surprisingly, she happened to like Jason Todd, despite his annoying nicknames for her, and his sometimes frustrating cheekiness. He was good to her, and he didn't care that she liked dressing like a biker and that she wasn't a dainty princess of a woman. He liked her anyway, which was a point in his court compared to her other dates of this week.
Soon they were at their apartment complex and parking their bikes side by side.
They walked the steps to her apartment in comfortable silence, though she did notice him standing a bit closer to her than necessary as they walked.
As they came to a halt outside her door, they turned to face each other.
" So, ballroom chick, how'd I do against those other suitors?" He asked with a small laugh, mischief clear in his eyes.
Crossing her arms, she pretended to be thinking hard.
" I can safely assure you that you were better than the twins. As much as it pains me to say it, you undoubtedly were the best," Alexis stated casually, humor twinkling in her brown eyes.
He smiled broadly, puffing up his chest with pride.
" This mean you'll come on another date Monday night?" Jason asked boldly.
" I will, as long as it doesn't involve being a hostage again, that tends to put a dampener on things," She joked, but her answer was entirely sincere at the same time.
Another date with a handsome, hilarious, slightly annoying man? How could she refuse?
His eyes lit up at her agreeance, and before she could react he'd swooped forward and kissed her quickly on her lips.
When he pulled away too quickly she crossed. her arms, an eyebrow raised.
" If we're going to go out again, you'll have to kiss better than that," She sighed, before kissing him properly.
When they pulled away he was staring at her in surprise, making her want to laugh.
" Close your mouth before you catch flies. Goodnight, Todd," She farewelled, opening her door and closing it behind her, leaving a very startled, and suddenly blushing man on her doorstep.
AUTHOR'S NOTE
I apologise for the long wait for this chapter, I've had exams, tests assignment and ballroom classes taking up most of my time. I am trying to write more often now that most of the work is behind me.
