Fevered Nightmare
Alexis Mercury was unbearably hot, it felt like fire was scorching her whole body, and with her powers she wants are if she was imagining it or if it was real. Shed woken up on fire more than once in the past, by accident of course. But when she blinked her eyes open slowly she didn't see herself spontaneously combusting in her bedroom. Memories of her day rushed back to her and she sat up with a small gasp as she remembered Richard being sick all day.
She didn't remember getting home.
As she sat up, thoroughly confused she felt a pair of hands on her shoulder steadying her as she swayed for a moment.
" Easy there, Alexis, you're sick," A deep voice murmured quietly next to her.
Her. confusion only grew at this. Lying back down she cast her gaze over to the other occupant in the room.
" Mr Wayne?" She murmured confusedly when she spotted her boss sitting next to the bed.
He nodded to confirm her answer and chuckled quietly when he noted her confusion.
" You caught Richard's fever, how're you feeling?" He asked gently.
" Like I'm going to have to call in sick today," She joked halfheartedly.
Bruce gently wiped a heavenly cool cloth over her forehead, eliciting a soft sigh of relief from her.
" With the way you helped my son today you can have as many sick days as you need," Bruce chuckled quietly.
She smiled at him tiredly and her eyes drooped steadily. Darkness tugged at her vision, and wth another small sigh she fell in to a fitful sleep.
Alexis dreamed that she was back in her home, back in Australia, and standing out in the cattle fields with her sister, Eliza. They were staring at a strange meteoroid looking thing that had crashed in to the fields the other night.
Neither of them were stupid, they'd seen the recent news about the alien attacks in America, the Thangarian invasion and such. But this giant rock looking thing was not what they'd expected to find in their backwards town. It had gouged a deep ditch in the field when it crash landed, and n that ditch they now stood, marveling at it with wide eyes.
" Is it an Alien ship?!" Eliza asked excitedly, her red hair flying around her face in the wind.
Alexis shrugged with a small giggle.
" I don't know, but I really want to find out!" She giggled excitedly.
Both girls stepped closer to the meteoroid and slowly, they reached out to touch it with wide eyed curiosity. The second their fingers touched the rocky, bumpy surface, a small ticking noise was heard.
Both girls stared at each other for a moment, before they sprinted for the edge of the ditch, but it was too late. Fire filled her vision as she and Eliza were engulfed in the explosion...........
When she awoke, sh rocketed up in to a sitting position with a gasp, the last moments of her dream catching up to her in a rush. She panted for a moment, the heat of her fever reminding her of the heat of the explosion. A small movement to the left of the bed she lay on caught her eye and she soon was looking in to the face of a concerned Bruce Wayne.
" It's okay Alexis, it was merely a dream," Bruce soothed calmly, knowing all about nightmares himself.
Alexis nodded tiredly and cradled her he'd in her hands for a moment.
" Is the fever gone?" Alexis asked, her voice muffled by her hands.
" Almost, you've managed to fight most of it off. You should be right as rain by this afternoon," Bruce answered instantly, helping her lie down again.
She smiled, relief evident on her face, at the fact that she was getting better.
" I can't thank you enough for helping me, Mr Wayne," Alexis murmured quietly.
Bruce smiled at her, and repositioned the sheets like an expert.
" You don't have too," Bruce murmured.
True to his word, by the afternoon she felt much better. The terrible heat was gone and she felt much, much better than she had before. Her nightmare still bothered her though. Why would she dream about her sister? She usually could put memories of Eliza behind her, but lately she'd found herself thinking of her a lot of the time.
Bruce had offered her a place at dinner with them, but se had politely declined, since she had work to do at home, and a mountain of paperwork to catch up on. So he had wished her a safe travel, and watched her drive away on her shiny black motorbike.
