Time for Chocolate Cherry Cupcakes

William's PoV

I like watching the news at night, a strange thing for a kid to like, but I've never been normal.

My mom wasn't home yet, I believed she had a date. I know she's still blind to it, but every time Ivy comes over she's flirting.  She was the reason mom almost left dad.  I'm glad she didn't but i still feel dad could have been nicer to her.  I really hope Ivy can help mom, she's been such a big help so far.  She no longer cries so much at night, ad she's letting me run the carnival as much as i can by myself.  I think she like Ivy too, i hoped this was a date.

The door opened late that night, my mom and Ivy walked in, "Hey Puddin'" my mom said walking over, "Are you alright?'" I nodded with a smile.

"I made a friend toady, a Wade!"

I felt a bit of tension in the room, two pairs of eyes looking at me, I gave a nervous smile. "What's going on?"

Ivy walked over to me and put a hand on my shoulder, she looked at the TV, it was off.  I had a book in my hand, I wanted to pass a test at the end of the summer. She turned on the news, a fire.

I shifted my attention to it, reading the captions along the bottom.  "Wade Industries catches fire and there are five confirmed dead." I look up at Ivy "I didn't have anything to do with that" she pointed back at the TV, she was like my second mother.  I liked that, but i never would call her mom, sh understood that.  I kept reading, "Among them are Bruce and Selina Wade, who are believed to be the Gotham vigilantes Batman ans Cat woman" there was a long brake and my eyes turned to my mom.  she was smiling, so wasn't Ivy.  This was it.

With that annoying bat dead we might just have a chance at a normal life, my mom had tried to be better ever since dad died, he left her a letter that told her to take care of me, he was getting sappy as he was dying.  maybe he really did love my mom, but I knew he cared for me.

"I'm making cupcakes" my mom said as she walked to the kitchen.  No one was going to fight that, we all loved my mom's baking, it was the best in the world.  Ivy squeezed my hand, "I'll probably spend the night if that's okay"

I nodded "I'll be up late tonight, just don't expect much for conversation" She nodded, she knew i was my father's son, that my brain worked in ways that she didn't understand.  I got up and went to my room.

My father left me something when he died, a box of books, his books.  Every plan, every recipe for his laughing gas, everything.  I found this box when I was very young, i still remember him telling me he was going to take these to the grave with him, but on his last day he said to keep them.

Will he said Take my place, tell your mother I'm sorry for what I've done.  He got so sappy, and because of that stupid bat he died back in that stupid hospital. Maybe that's why he was like that, because they had him all drugged up, keeping his brain from working at it's capacity.  at least they lit mom and i see him.  He found the book i was looking for, this book was mine, it had my name printed nearly on the inside cover, one day i would cross that out.  But i hadn't outgrown my name just yet.  I think i had just grown into it.

I flipped to the page with the clothing sketches I was working on. It looked a lot like my dad's but it was nice.  I turned on my desk lamp ans took out my colored pencils and stared to color.  I never liked the colors my dad choice for the Joker, so colored it with pink and blue, mom's favorite colors.  I smiled at my drawing, it was a new coat.

"William, would you like to try the cake batter, it's chocolate cherry" my favorite.  "Coming" I put the book back in the box and pushed the box under my desk, it was not time for plotting, now was time for my mom's Chocolate Cherry cupcakes.
