"THE PORTAL OPENER" ONE SHOT | [ K.J & M.M]

MATILDA MONROE WAS able to open portals. She was able to do something that will take an extensive amount of magic, or could be only used by making a magical bean. It was a burden and a gift. Since she was trying to control it, she still was not able to control opening portals without using her conscious. Specially, since she might threaten the lives of the people in Storybrooke; which consisted on her friends and lover.

It was one late afternoon when Matilda sat down by the docks. Holding a book with a small frown on her face as she held one of her favorite books in her hands. She was afraid to open a portal when she consumed herself in her reading. Setting the book beside her, she looked into the docks.

"What is the trouble with you, love?" Killian said from behind her. Matilda turned around to face her boyfriend with a sour look. "I thought you might be happier by my company." He said to her, seating next to her as she shrugged.

"I can't read." Matilda mumbled, using her hand to rest her chin. Killian took a seat next to her.

"How come you can't? You are always reading." Killian replied to her, half amused by her responce.

Matilda smiled nonetheless. "I can't. I might open a portal from god knowns where. Last time, David almost shot Aslan because I was reading Narnia to Neal so that he will fall sleep." Matilda explained to him.

"If I read that book, then...drawes will come running around with a hobbit. Or even Smaug will come flying, and honestly Storybrooke does not need a flying dragon." Matilda explained to him.

Killian looked at the sea, before looking back at her. "I can...r-read it for you." Killian said to you. You smirked at him.

"Did I just heard Captain Hook stutter?" You joked, leaning in to give him a peck on the lips. Killian rolled his eyes, lifting the book on the table as you both pulled away. He looked at you before opening the book. You looked at the letters in amazement, reading quietly as you listened to Killian speak. A scream, followed by the earth shaking caught of your attentions. Matilda shot up from her seat, trying to see through the thick trees what caused the scream. As she stop up, she noticed the trees move along with the earth. Her eyes widen when she saw a huge troll with a scar on his face.

Matilda swore under her breath as she ran towards the troll. Pushing the people away, and motioning to hide, the woman tried to get the troll's attention. Killian groaned in annoyance, following his girlfriend who had a magnet for trouble. Matilda whistled, and moved her arms around. When she successfully caught the attention of the troll, she was pushed away by Killian who saw the troll lift his weapon. The earth around them shook, and the weight of the weapon caused the both of them to jump slightly.

"Why the bloody hell are you running straight towards that thing?" Killian asked her, taking her by the upper arm as they both ran for cover.

"Because I want him to follow me so he could fall into a portal back to his world." Matilda cut in. Matilda pulled in into a quick kiss before looking for a safe place to open the portal. Killian slightly dazed by the kiss, did not notice Matilda run back to her previous place. Emma smacked Killian's shoulder.

"Stop dreaming about Matilda and help me get her to cover." Emma snapped at Killian before running towards Matilda. "What the hell is that?" Emma asked her, standing next to her best friend.

Matilda frowned. "A very ugly, evil, heartless troll." Matilda replied. "He is not the friendly one. At all." Matilda told her, lifting her arm to protect some citizens from being crushed by it. She looked back into the forest, smirking slightly. "I need to draw his attention, so he will follow me to the forest. There I can open a portal to send him back to his world." Matilda told him.

"Did you non-intentionally opened a portal again?" Emma asked Matilda. Matilda shrugged, giving her a fake innocent smile.

"Maybe." The brunette replied. Emma sighed, picking up her gun and pointing it at the troll. "Do you reckon it will work?" Matilda asked her.

"There is always first time for everything." Emma replied, shooting the creature. The troll groaned, turning to the two women. "I guessed it worked." Emma said before following the running Matilda. The troll raced behind them, and into the forest. Matilda tripped, and was quickly lifted up by Emma. The troll was right on their train, which made Matilda more nervous.

"You go to the left, I go to the right. Go." Matilda told her. Emma ignored her and followed her around. Matilda stopped in her tracks, shooting an spell towards the troll. The troll stumble over, given her enough time to start to create a portal. Emma kept close eye on the troll as she stood next to Matilda. The troll stood up, and Matilda used on her powers her powers to push him through the portal, but it was useless. Matilda pushed Emma away, and before the troll could eat her, she was pushed to cover by Killian. Killian down at her with an annoyed expression. "You look nice when you are annoyed." Matilda commented. She pulled Killian into a kiss.

Killian pulled away, giving her a tired expression. "That is not going to work." He told her.

Matilda smiled at him. "I know. But this might." Matilda said, before pushing Killian away with her powers. She ran to the troll and opened a portal to his respecting world while using every bit of strength to pull him into it. A startled cry from Emma, as she tried reaching the portal at the same time as Killian; but it was no use. The portal had closed. Killian held a blank face as he felt his insides break into pieces. Emma leant on a tree, trying to recover from the sight. The women did not look up when she heard footsteps approaching.

Regina looked around, not noticing the brunette woman she was looking for. "Where is Matilda?" She asked Emma, and tried to ignore the sinking feeling she felt caused by the look that Emma held. "Come on! Care to give us an explanation, Savior?" Regina asked Emma, her blood running high caused by the anger she felt. She had failed Matilda's mother once, now she had failed her.

"Don't blame me for something I had not plan of." Emma cut in, glaring at the woman.

"Oh, please. You are the reason why Matilda gets herself in bad situations." Regina snapped at Emma.

However, before the Emma could reply another portal opened. Matilda felt to the floor, as the portal closed. Regina quickly reached for the young girl, but Killian beat her to it by pulling the brunette to his chest. "Love, wake up. Come on, look at me." Killian whispered. Matilda opened her eyes slightly, smiling at Killian.

"I love you." Matilda whispered back. Regina knelt in front of the woman.

"Are you okay honey?" Regina asked the woman, who resembled her mother in many ways.

"I'm okay. Just a tiny bit tired. Nobody died, did they?" Matilda asked Regina. The woman gave her a genuine smile, knowing that Matilda will always care for others lives and put them before hers without hesitation.

"Yeah, they are hon. They are." Regina told her.

A/N: First one shot of Killian and Matilda. I really enjoy writing about her whilst she uses her powers. Coming up a really sad one-shot of her and Emma.
