Chapter 13: Happy Unbirthday, Barbara.

(Barbara ran to Frankie's apartment and knocked on the door with the puppy in her arms.)

Barbara: "Frankie, you there? Frankie, it's me, Babs." (Frankie came at the door and slowly opened it.)

Barbara: "Hey, it's great seeing you." (Frankie had an awful look on her face.)

(Barbara's face slowly turned into a frown.)

Barbara: "Right. I'm sorry about not keeping my promise, but Dinah needed me and I just couldn't abandon her. Hell, you would do the exact same if you were in my shoes." (Frankie rolled her eyes and crossed her arms. Barbara huffed in agony.)

Barbara: "Come on, Frankie. I apologized. You have to forgive me." (Frankie closed her eyes and smiled.)

Frankie: "Alright, alright. I forgive you, but if you break that promise again, I will give you a bad hair day."

Barbara: "Hey, I'm already seeing your hair all frizzy, but don't talk about my hair."

Frankie: "Geez, Babs. Harsh."

Barbara: "Sorry, but it's true." (The puppy saw Frankie and he barked.)

Barbara: "Oh, go ahead, little guy." (The puppy went to Frankie and jumped on her leg.)

Frankie: "Aww, this is a cute puppy! What type is he?"

Barbara: "He's a German Shepherd."

Frankie: "Sweet!" (She was straightening herself up with her forearm crutches to pet him.)

Barbara: "How are your legs?" (Frankie looked at her legs and tried to move them, but she's still struggling.)

Frankie: "To be honest, I'm trying, Babs. I really am, but it's just so hard to do things when your legs stop working. You can't take a walk around the park. You can't dance around the room. Can't exercise. It's just tragic." (The puppy whimpered and rubbed his head against Frankie's leg. Barbara walked by her and rubbed her shoulder.)

Barbara: "Aw, Frankie." (She looked down at the floor and tried not to cry.)

Frankie: "It's fine, I'm fine. Look, I don't want to talk about it. Let's just change the subject." (Barbara rubbed her arm and shook her head to forget about her legs.)

Barbara: "Okay, then. So, you said about the two gifts you were going to give me for my birthday."

Frankie: "Ah, that's right. You're going to love this. May you grab my wheelchair, please? I really don't want to struggle my way to the secret door."

Barbara: "Secret door?"

Frankie: "Yeah, it's for you, girl. Remember, Batgirl?"

Barbara: "Oh, okay. I see what you mean." (She brought her the wheelchair and Frankie slowly sat down carefully.)

Frankie: "Yep. This way, please." (She rolled herself through the basement.)

Frankie: "Here we are."

Barbara: "The laundry room is your basement?"

Frankie: "Watch." (She moved a white basket filled with clothes onto the dryer and there was loose brick that she pulled out. She puts the secret code in and Barbara tries to look.)

Frankie: "Ah! No peeking, girl! This is my passcode and no one needs to find out about it. That includes you." (Barbara looked away pretending to be offended.)

Barbara: "Wow, okay, Frankazoid. I'm not looking." (She turned around while Frankie is putting in the code.)

Frankie: "You better not be lying to me."

Barbara: "Trust me, if I was lying to you right now, I would be breathing down your neck."

Frankie: "Okay. Point taken." (She pressed enter and the screen turned green.)

Computer: "Passcode accepted, please enter the elevator with caution."

Frankie: "Alright, you can look now. I put the code in. Now, it's time to get in this elevator." (Barbara turned back around and saw the elevator.)

Barbara: "Whoa, you have an elevator in your basement?"

Frankie: "Uh, didn't you just see the elevator like 2 seconds ago? And can you hurry? This elevator is on a timer."

Barbara: "Okay, I'm coming. Come on, pup." (The puppy barked and hurried in with Barbara and Frankie. The elevator closed and they went downwards.)

Frankie: "Pup, huh? You haven't given him a name, yet?"

Barbara: "No, I haven't really been thinking about names lately because my mind was somewhere else."

Frankie: "So, you got this puppy like what? Thirty minutes ago?"

Barbara: "Actually an hour ago."

Frankie: "An hour ago and you haven't come up with a name?" (Barbara puts her hands on her hips.)

Barbara: "Okay, Frankie. So, what would you call this puppy then?"

Frankie: "Hmm....how about Ace?"

Barbara: "Ace, huh?"

Frankie: "Yeah, Ace. It's what Amelia Earhart called the strapping young guys who flew airplanes." (Barbara laughed.)

Barbara: "Dogs can't fly airplanes."

Frankie: "Girl, you're missing the picture. This puppy looks really cute, strapping and courageous to be your dog companion. So, I suggest that you call him Ace and I think it's a fantastic name for this pup. It fits perfectly." (The puppy looks like he was smiling at her and she played with his paws.)

Frankie: "See? Even Ace agrees with me." (Barbara thought about the name and she was really interested in calling him that.)

Barbara: "Actually I actually love Ace way better than any other name."

Frankie: "That's the spirit. Ace, it is!" (She laughed and the elevator stopped and dinged.)

Frankie: "Welp, that's our stop, Babs." (Barbara looks around and saw nothing, but rocks and darkness.)

Barbara: "Where are we? It looks like a dead end from here."

Frankie: "No, Babs. We're in the underground and in the underground, they don't have dead ends. Check this out." (She took off one of the rocks off the wall and it looks like it wasn't heavy at all to her.)

Barbara: "Whoa, what?"

Frankie: "Yep, it's fake. It's made out of plastic and cardboard." (Behind the fake rock was an eye scanner. She leaned in close to get her eye scanned and it was postive.)

Computer: "Retinal scan successful. Welcome, Operator Francine Charles."

Barbara: "Operator?"

Frankie: "Yeah, I made up a codename of my own."

Barbara: "Operator?" (The doors slowly opened.)

Frankie: "Barbara, welcome to the Operator's Lounge." (Barbara saw all the technical gear and gadgets. A television and nice monitor screens. There were also stuff for Batgirl everywhere and on the table were the gifts.)

Barbara: "Damn, Frankie."

Frankie: "I know right. Everything you see before you is all Batgirl's. So, everything I got is yours."

Barbara: "This is...awesome!"

Frankie: "Exactly!" (She laughed excitedly as she grabbed her two gifts.)

Frankie: "Are you ready for your gifts, Babs?"

Barbara: "Yes, I'm ready." (Frankie nodded and gave her a wrapped up box for her and another.)

Barbara: "Thanks." (Barbara sat down on the couch and tore open the wrapping paper on the first gift.)

Barbara: "Wow, Frankie. This is really sweet."

Frankie: "I know, but open your other gift." (Barbara opened the other box and it was tickets for an event.)

Frankie: "Those are tickets for your birthday party at Burnside Stadium. Even Alysia will be there and I know Dick will be there. I think Bruce will be there as well."

Barbara: "Wow. When will it start?"

Frankie: "Tonight."

Barbara: "Thank you."

Frankie: "You're welcome and I got on more bonus gift that you will like."

Barbara: "Okay, which is?"

Frankie: "Prepare to be amazed with your own eyes, Barbara because this beauty is a sight to see."

Barbara: "Okay. Bring it." (Frankie pressed a small button that was under the coffee table and it activated the back room where there was a spotlight on a nice purple vehicle.)

Barbara: "No...a purple motorcycle?! That's in the shape of a..."

Frankie: "Bat? Am I just awesome?"

Barbara: "Too awesome. Wait, you built this vehicle yourself?"

Frankie: "Hell yes, I did!"

Barbara: "Frankie, I love you." (She hugged her and Frankie patted her back.)

Frankie: "I know and look, Ace! You have a little seat right next to Batgirl, boy." (Ace barked happily and Barbara was stunned at that.)

Barbara: "What, are you crazy? I'm not going to let my puppy get killed while I'm fighting crime. No way."

Frankie: "Come on, this pup is powerful!"

Barbara: "Yeah, powerfully adorable. Criminals don't want cuteness! They need something to fear."

Frankie: "Babs, Ace is something to fear. Show her, Ace! I want to see your meanest, scariest face that'll make the criminals shiver in their bones." (Ace growled and made a mean face, but then barked really adorably.)

Frankie: "Or....maybe not."

Barbara: "See what I mean? Criminals won't be scared of a little puppy."

Frankie: "So, you train him to be aggressive. It's nothing that we can't handle. Trust me, this pup will be so fierce, nothing can stand in his way. You two will be unstoppable."

Barbara: "Yeah, I guess. I'll need to get him a collar, though."

Frankie: "Already done, Babs. Hand crafted by yours truly and I have a 3D printer that printed out a dog tag for him. Here you go." (She gave her the collar with the dog tag on it and a leash.)

Barbara: "Nice!"

Frankie: "I also put a small camera inside his dog tag, so I can see what he can see and hear what he can hear."

Barbara: "How do you do it, Frankie? You are such a techie."

Frankie: "That's what friends call me. One more thing. Your Bat necklace that I gave you. You can split it in half."

Barbara: "Split it in half? So, what I can connect it to something?"

Frankie: "You'll see. It connects to something that reels you in. It's like using a fishing pole." (Barbara was really confused at that.)

Barbara: "Right...."

Frankie: "Don't worry, you'll see what I mean. Now, get going and put on something beautiful for your birthday because I'm sure as hell that I'll be there."

Barbara: "Okay, thank you for the gifts, Frankie. I mean it."

Frankie: "Tick tock, Babs. Time is running out."

Barbara: "Okay, okay. I'm leaving. I'll lock the door."

Frankie: "No need. The front door has remote controlled magnet locks. It'll be fine."

Barbara: "Jesus. Bye, Frankie."

Frankie: "See you, birthday girl!" (Barbara waved and grabbed Ace. She walked out of the house and the door closed itself locking itself automatically. Meanwhile at Wayne Manor, Bruce and Dick Grayson were getting ready for the birthday party for Barbara.)

Bruce: "You look nervous. Are you okay, Dick?"

Dick: "Yeah, I'm fine. I'm just excited to see Barbara again and today's her birthday and I didn't get anything for her."

Bruce: "Relax, breathe. You'll think of something."

Dick: "Yeah, I know."

Bruce: "By the way, I have a little gift for you. What you have done at the office building for the past two weeks or so when you told that man to face justice, I was really proud of you and I was thinking that you should be promoted for that. Hold out your hands."

Dick: "Okay." (He held out his hands in front of him.)

Bruce: "For all the courageous actions you have done with me, I will give you a token to my appreciation." (He hands Dick a small black box that has his name engraved with blue cursive writing. Dick was curious to open the box and he did.)

Dick: "Wow. It's amazing."

Bruce: "Tiffany made that and she says to me that it's time for me to promote you. So in this case, you are no longer Robin. You are now...Nightwing." (Dick smiled and looked in his hands as he stared at the necklace.)

Dick: "Nightwing. I love it." (He puts it on and covered it up under his tie.)

Bruce: "Ahem. By the way, the necklace can split in half for something to connect it with."

Dick: "The necklace can split in half?"

Bruce: "Yes, it can. It's like you're using a key for something. Think of it like a puzzle."

Dick: "How am I supposed to know what it connects with?"

Bruce: "I'm sure you can figure that out on your own, Dick. Because I have no clue." (He softly chuckled and Dick shrugged and chuckled with him.)

Dick: "Well, if my necklace is indeed a key to something, then I must find it."

Bruce: "That's right and I hope you will."

Dick: "Oh, I will find it and once I do, I'll tell you what it is."

Bruce: "I can't wait to hear it from you soon." (Dick winked and chuckled as Alfred came in.)

Alfred: "You gentlemen look dashing."

Bruce: "Thank you, Alfred. Is everything alright?" (His hands were still shaking behind his back, but he stopped it.)

Alfred: "Everything is fine. Miss Gordon's party will start in 25 minutes. You guys better not be late."

Bruce: "Thanks for the info. We'll be there. Are you ready, Dick?"

Dick: "Yes, I'm ready to go see her."

Bruce: "Well, then. Let's take my car." (They got into Bruce's red car and drove towards the museum. Meanwhile, Dinah puts on her necklace and looked in the mirror. She saw the picture above her mirror and it was her band friends. She looked deeply at it and was about to cry, but she held back and shook her head.)

Dinah: "No. I can't let it get to me. I am a strong woman and I will attend Barbara's birthday party." (She heard the horn honking outside. Dinah smiled and nodded her head.)

Dinah: "Right on time." (She walked out of her room and locked the front door. She turned around and saw her friends in a taxi car.)

Frankie: "Hey, what's up, Dinah? You looking beautiful in that black dress!"

Alysia: "I'll say. She looks stunning."

Barbara: "Great job, Dinah!"

Dinah: "You guys, thank you, but this is about Babs. It's her special day and this is all about her."

Frankie: "Well, then. Get in the car, beautiful!" (Dinah chuckled and got in with them.)

Dinah: "All of you guys smell nice."

Frankie: "Not better than you, girl! Is that jasmine I smell?"

Dinah: "Yeah, that's me."

Alysia: "Excellent choice."

Barbara: "I'm so excited for my birthday night."

Frankie: "Hey, where's Ace?"

Barbara: "My puppy?" (Ace poked his little head out in between the girls. They were all surprised by it.)

Alysia: "Hey, there!"

Barbara: "Ace, you scared us, boy!" (She scratched under his chin and rubbed his head.)

Dinah: "Aww, is he wearing a little tuxedo with a bow tie?"

Frankie: "That is too adorable!"

Barbara: "I told my dad that Ace want to come with me, so he said yes and he dressed him up."

Alysia: "Yet, here he is being the cutest puppy in the universe. What type is he?"

Barbara: "German Shepherd."

Alysia: "Sweet!" (The car stopped in front of the museum and Bruce parked behind them at the same time.)

Taxi Driver: "Alright, ladies. We have arrived."

Frankie: "Yay! Okay, girls! Let's go get our party on!"

Alysia: "I know that's right!"

Dinah: "This is going to be a fun party."

Barbara: "Let's go." (They all got out and went inside while Bruce was talking to Dick.)

Bruce: "So, you're ready to go inside?"

Dick: "Yes, I am."

Bruce: "Whenever there's trouble, I'll let you know by your earpiece."

Dick: "Okay. Got you." (He opened the door and looked at Bruce.)

Dick: "What about you? Aren't you coming?"

Bruce: "Of course I am. I'm just going to park it somewhere so, no one will think about stealing the car."

Dick: "Oh. I see."

Bruce: "Go on in. I'll be there in a second." (Dick nodded and went inside the museum. The party was crowded and there were food being served out. Dick went over to the food stand and grabbed some boneless honey barbecue wings with his fork. He got tapped on his shoulder and turned around to see Frankie with her forearm crutches.)

Frankie: "Enjoying yourself?"

Dick: "Hey! Frankie, how have you been?" (He gave her a hug and she chuckled.)

Frankie: "Doing really well as a matter of fact."

Dick: "That's good. That's good. Did any homework?"

Frankie: "Of a sort, but that's not why you're here. Everyone is here to see Barbara because it's her birthday!"

Dick: "I know. It's just..."

Frankie: "What?"

Dick: (Sighs) "It's just that I forgot to get something for her birthday." (Frankie gasped and she points a finger at him.)

Frankie: "Well, it's for you to change that right now."

Dick: "Okay. What do you suggest?" (Frankie looked around and saw a rose bush by the plants in the corner.)

Frankie: "Give her a rose. That's what girls like. Impress her that you gave her something. It's way better than just not giving her anything."

Dick: "True." (He saw Barbara and he was surprised of how beautiful she was in the ruby sparkly dress she was wearing with her long red hair hanging over her shoulders with such grace. She was talking to Alysia and smiling the most brightest smile he ever saw.)

Dick: "Frankie, you are an amazing expert on girls and what they like."

Frankie: "I know, now go get her. You charming prince of her dreams!" (She playfully pushed him to make him go forward. Bruce went to the museum and found something to drink. He took it from a woman and began to sip away at it. Dick picked a flower from the bushes and walked towards Barbara.)

Dick: "Hey, Babs. You looked so beautiful that I didn't even noticed." (Barbara looked at Dick and she was so surprised to see him.)

Barbara: "Dick! You came!" (She hugged him and Dick chuckled softly into her ear.)

Dick: "What? You thought I would forget about your party? I wouldn't even miss a single thing."

Barbara: "Just like cartoons?"

Dick: "Yeah. Same principle and happy birthday." (He showed her the rose that he had behind his back and Barbara was stunned.)

Barbara: "Aw, Dick. It's really nice."

Dick: "No, more like..." (He puts the rose in her hair and played with her little curls at the ends on the way down.)

Dick: "Beautiful. Just like you." (He caressed her soft cheek and she blushed.)

Barbara: "Dick, you're making me blush while everyone is here."

Dick: "Why? Did I do something wrong?"

Barbara: "No, no. It's fine. I'm happy that you did that." (Suddenly, jazz started playing.)

Dick: "Do you want to dance with me?"

Barbara: "Sure. I'm up for it." (Dick smiled at her.)

Dick: "Alright, let's go." (He took her to the dancefloor and he took her hand and he pulled her close. Barbara looked in his eyes and they begin to waltz around the room. Her friends were happy to see her dance with Dick. So, they danced as well. Bruce was looking for trouble, but so far nothing was up. Jim was also there really happy for Barbara having a nice time until his walkie-talkie went off.)

Renee: (COM) "Commissioner, come in."

Jim: "This is the Commissioner. What is it, Montoya?"

Renee: (COM) "We got a speed chase going on Downtown, someone was running over traffic lights and causing trouble for our officers. It's getting out of hand really quickly. We're going to need Batman, Robin and Batgirl for this one."

Jim: "Sounds like a plan to me, but I'm at my daughter's birthday."

Renee: (COM) "I'm sorry, Jim, but whether it's your daughter and the people in danger of getting hurt or we get some help to save the city?"

Jim: (Sighs) "You're right. I'll be there."

Renee: (COM) "Good and hurry." (Jim turned off his walkie-talkie and went to Barbara and Dick.)

Jim: "Hey, Babs. I got to go."

Barbara: "Aw, now? But in a few minutes, the people are going to sing happy birthday and cut the cake."

Jim: "I know, honey, but I have important work to do. Really important."

Barbara: "Okay, I get it. Just go do your job. I'll be fine."

Jim: "Good. I love you, sweetheart."

Barbara: "Love you, too, dad. Be safe."

Jim: "I will and you mister. You better make sure that my daughter is safe and secure."

Dick: "Will do, Mister Gordon." (He grinned.)

Jim: "Good and don't grin at me like that again."

Barbara: "Dad...."

Jim: "Alright, I'm gone." (He ran out of the museum and got into his car.)

Dick: "Well, your dad seem cool."

Barbara: "Yeah, he is a cool dad." (Bruce looked outside and saw the Bat signal clear as daylight. He went to Dick and whispered in his ear.)

Bruce: (Whispers) "Dick, it's time."

Dick: (Whispers) "Now? What about the cake?"

Bruce: (Whispers) "You can have one slice and eat when we head outside."

Dick: (Whispers) "Okay."

Bruce: (Whispers) "Let's get moving."

Barbara: "Hey, Mister Wayne."

Bruce: "Miss Gordon, happy birthday and enjoy the cake. Dick and I got to run. He needs to get his teeth checked and I'm taking him to the dentist."

Barbara: "At night? But the dentist is closed."

Bruce: "Don't worry. We scheduled it late when we should have done it earlier and speaking of which, we have to leave."

Dick: "Barbara, I'll see you later?"

Barbara: "Yeah, sure." (Dick hugged her and left the museum with Bruce and a slice of cake was in his hands. After the birthday song ended, everyone had a slice of cake and enjoying themselves. After a few minutes later, everyone was leaving.)

Frankie: "That was the greatest party ever!"

Alysia: "It sure was."

Dinah: "It was fun and I had a great time." (Ace barked happily.)

Barbara: "And Ace had fun as well." (She saw her car in the parking lot.)

Barbara: "Hey, my car is in the parking lot."

Frankie: "Probably your dad parked it and he didn't want you to wait till a taxi car got you, so I guess he sent your car here."

Barbara: "Wow, thanks, dad."

Dinah: "Well, we're waiting for the taxi, so we'll see you later, Babs. By the way, happy birthday." (She gave her a lava lamp.)

Barbara: "A lava lamp? Cool, thanks!"

Dinah: "Anytime!" (She smiled.)

Barbara: "Bye, girls."

Alysia: "Group hug!" (They all hugged together and they let each other go.)

Frankie: "Bye, Barbara!"

Barbara: "Stay safe, you guys!"

Alysia: "We will!" (Barbara walked to her car and got in. She started it and her phone ringed.)

Barbara: "Huh?" (She looked at it and it was her dad calling.)

Barbara: "Hey, dad. What's going on?"

Jim: (COM) "Honey, I forgot to grab groceries from the store earlier because I was so caught up on paperwork."

Barbara: "Oh, that's not a problem. I'll do it for you."

Jim: (COM) "Are you sure? It's a lot."

Barbara: "Dad, I can handle it. What's so hard about going to the store and getting what you need?"

Jim: (COM) "Nothing."

Barbara: "Exactly, dad. Go back to doing what you're doing and I got this."

Jim: (COM) "Okay, I'll see you when you get home."

Barbara: "Okay." (She got a text from her dad with all the groceries that they needed for the house.)

Barbara: "Piece of cake." (She drove to the grocery store to grab everything that was on the list and she puts them in the trunk. She then was driving back to the house, but suddenly someone was recklessly driving passed her so fast that she was off the road and fell into a ditch while she was yelling. When she got into a ditch, the impact pushed her back into the seat hard which made her snap her spine in slow motion. She gasped as her seatbelt flew off and her head hits the steering wheel where the horn is. The horn was going off as she passed out. Nightwing heard a horn going off for miles. He reports it to Batman.)

Nightwing: "Batman, I hear a horn blaring off into the distance. I'm going to check it out if that's okay."

Batman: (COM) "Copy that, Nightwing. Do what you have to do. In the meantime, I'll stop this reckless driver."

Nightwing: "Okay, be careful."

Batman: (COM) "I will, Batman out." (Nightwing turned off his earpiece and approached the car as he looked and saw that it was Barbara who was in the wreck and Nightwing's eyes went wide.)

Nightwing: "Oh, my god!" (He ran and punched the window out to unlock the door. Once he did, he shook Barbara.)

Nightwing: "Barbara, Barbara, can you hear me?" (He noticed that she wasn't moving at all.)

Nightwing: "Oh, no. Hold on, Barbara. I'm going to get you some help." (He carried her and ran towards Thomas and Martha Wayne's Memorial Hospital. The nurses saw Nightwing entered.)

Nightwing: "Someone help! Help, she's hurt!" (The nurses went to check on her and she didn't look too good. They put her on the gurney and they went to the emergency room. One of the doctors came towards Nightwing.)

Doctor #1: "Thanks for bringing that young lady in uh..."

Nightwing: "The name's Nightwing."

Doctor #1: "Thank you, Nightwing."

Nightwing: "Is she going to be alright?"

Doctor #1: "She's going to be fine, but I need to know who to contact if something is up."

Nightwing: "That young lady is the Commissioner's daughter."

Doctor #1: "That's his daughter? Oh, no. It's going to break his heart."

Nightwing: "He needs to know about his daughter."

Doctor #1: "I will...contact him. So I can tell him the news."

Nightwing: "Good." (Ace ran in the hospital and barked.)

Doctor #1: "Is that a puppy?"

Nightwing: "Yes. I heard that the pup was hers. He must've been in the car with her."

Doctor #1: "So far, I don't see any injuries and he brought bags with him?"

Nightwing: "It looked like she was shopping. I could tell because it was inside the trunk."

Doctor #1: "Then how the hell did the dog get it open?"

Nightwing: "He probably knew where the trunk latch was. Heh. Smart puppy. Anyway, I have to get back, now."

Doctor #1: "Go ahead. I'm going to run X-rays on the girl and make sure the dog stays in her room. Good luck and thanks again."

Nightwing: "No problem." (He ran out and activated his earpiece.)

Batman: (COM) "Nightwing, you there?"

Nightwing: "Here you, loud and clear."

Batman: (COM) "Did you found out what was that sound you heard?"

Nightwing: "Yes, I did and it wasn't good."

Batman: (COM) "Why, what happened?"

Nightwing: "Someone crashed into a ditch and that someone was Barbara Gordon."

Batman: (COM) "No. Is she okay?"

Nightwing: "No, I don't think she's okay. When I found her, she passed out. I don't know why or how, but...she's in the hospital, now and she's being taken care of. (Sighs) God."

Batman: (COM) "Dick....it's going to be okay." (Nightwing was breathing heavy and sniffled.)

Nightwing: "Yeah, I know. You're right. I'm fine, Batman."

Batman: "I caught the reckless driver. It's one of the Pact's henchmen."

Nightwing: "The Pact?"

Batman: "Yes, the Pact's involved with this. Harley Quinn, Bane, Mr. Freeze and Joker. They are the ones behind this one. Trust me, Nightwing. They are not to be trusted, but I was undercover to see what they were up to."

Nightwing: "I get it. So, we turn him in?"

Batman: "Exactly. Then we investigate the crime scene that you just witnessed."

Nightwing: "Okay. On my way." (He ran towards Batman and they both took him to GCPD.)

Jim: "So, this is the one who started the speed chase?"

Batman: "That is correct. This scumbag."

Henchman #1: "Hey, get your hands off of me!"

Nightwing: "Shut up, man."

Jim: "Men, put this guy in a nice, cozy cell. Make him feel right at home." (The officers grabbed the guy and threw him in a cell.)

Jim: "Well, that's another away in a cell. Excellent work, you two. Wish Batgirl was here. That would've made things a lot smoother." (Nightwing looked down for a second thinking about Barbara while being a little sad.)

Batman: "Jim, may we talk privately in your office?"

Jim: "Sure, but I prefer that it was on the roof. Much quieter up there than it is in here. Follow me, gentlemen." (They all went to the rooftop and Jim took out a cigarette and lit it.)

Jim: "So, what's this all about?"

Batman: "Jim, it's about your daughter."

Jim: "What about my daughter?"

Nightwing: "Look, Jim. I don't want this to scare you, but...your daughter crashed into a ditch." (Jim's cigarette fell into a puddle and he was really shocked.)

Jim: "No...that can't be my....oh, Jesus Christ! Not my precious little girl and no one reported this to me? Bunch of idiots! How? How did she ended up in a ditch?"

Batman: "I don't know, but we'll find out."

Jim: "She must've got out then, right?"

Nightwing: "No, when I arrived, she passed out, but I carried her to the hospital."

Jim: "Oh, thank god. Thank you, Nightwing. You saved my daughter's life." (Nightwing nodded at him in return. Jim had a frown upon his face.)

Jim: "Okay, you guys go do whatever you guys do and when I'm done doing my signing papers, I'm going to see my little girl."

Batman: "Jim, we always got your back. I want you to believe that."

Jim: "I know, just find out what happened to her, please and then report to me on what you boys find."

Nightwing: "We're on it, Commissioner." (They both went to the car and Batman saw the car.)

Batman: "Okay, Nightwing. Is this it?"

Nightwing: "Yes, this was where I found her."

Batman: "Okay, time to figure this out." (He closed his eyes and had images on where she was, by using detective mode.)

Batman: "Okay, she was leaving the party with her friends, she got in the car and took off down the road."

Nightwing: "Hey Batman, I see the car tracks leading towards the parking lot where the store is located." (He had VR in his vision as well.)

Batman: "Good eyes, Nightwing. Then after she left the store, she drove down this road here and ended up in the ditch, but who made her go into the ditch?"

Nightwing: "Wait, let me rewind it in slow motion." (He rewinded in his head and saw carefully what happened. The guy that was driving the truck went around her which made Barbara go off course and into the ditch.)

Nightwing: "That son of a. Hey, Batman. I figured it all out."

Batman: "Okay, what was it?"

Nightwing: "Okay, so Barbara was just heading down this road, right?"

Batman: "That's right."

Nightwing: "Then while that was happening, the guy that we arrested ended up speeding really fast and went around Barbara's car, but here's the kicker. While he was going around her, he somehow managed to hit her back tires to make her go off the road and into a ditch. He did this to her."

Batman: "And he laughed while we took him in. Now, the question is what made her pass out on the steering wheel?"

Nightwing: "We have to search the car."

Batman: "Great thinking, Dick. Let's investigate." (He stared really hard at the car and it had images everywhere that contains Barbara in the accident.)

Batman: "When she flew into a ditch, it made her go back against the seat really hard when the car first impacted. Ace was in the back seat and tried to get to Barbara, but he was underneath the seat, so he crawled out carefully. Meanwhile, that was happening, the seatbelt then unbuckled itself and flew backwards hitting the rear back windshield." (Batman then went to X-ray vision on her body.)

Batman: "After her back hits the seat really hard, it snapped her spine causing much internal bleeding which caused her to gasp and then suddenly passed out onto the steering wheel horn." (He heard a horn blow in his head while he finished analyzing her body.)

Nightwing: "God and I came too late."

Batman: "No, you didn't. You actually came right when the horn started blaring and after you carried her towards the hospital, Ace jumped into the driver's seat and activated the trunk latch which opened the trunk door. Then, he jumped out of the broken window with no injuries occured and he took the groceries out of the trunk and followed you two towards the hospital, hurrying to Barbara's safety." (Batman turned off his detective mode and looked at Nightwing.)

Nightwing: "Wow, Ace is one smart puppy. I tell you that."

Batman: "I agree. Now, we have to tell Jim about this. If it doesn't break his heart." (Batman went to Jim's channel by using his wrist module. Meanwhile, back to Barbara's hospital room. She slowly opened her eyes and looked around.)

Barbara: (Thoughts) "Ugh, my head. Where....the hell am I?" (Ace barked and Barbara saw him.)

Barbara: (Thoughts) "Ace?" (She tried to get up so she can rub him, but she couldn't.)

Barbara: (Thoughts) "What the hell? Why can't I move?" (She tried again and again, but once again she couldn't move. The doctor came in and saw Barbara with a clipboard in his hands.)

Doctor: "Ah, I see you're awake."

Barbara: (Weakly) "W-Where am I, doctor?"

Doctor: "Why, you're in the hospital." (Barbara was scared a lot.)

Barbara: (Weakly) "The hospital? Wh-Why am I...in the hospital?"

Barbara: (Thoughts) "God, I'm scared. Is this a horror movie? Help me!"

Doctor: "Well...you passed out."

Barbara: (Weakly) "I...passed out?"

Doctor: "Yes, you have and what I have here is your X-rays. Now, I want you to look at each and every one slowly. Then I'll tell you what happened with the result."

Barbara: (Weakly) "Okay." (The doctor puts at the X-rays on the lit up display and Barbara looks at each one and the last one showed the spine broken.)

Barbara: (Thoughts) "Geez, this has to be the wrong patient or maybe that's mine, but I don't think it's my X-rays, right?"

Doctor: "Now, this might shock you a lot, but I'm not trying to cause you an alarm. So, I'm just going to say it. That last X-ray up there...is you, Miss Gordon and that last result in the paper says that you may no longer walk again. You have been in a car accident and you're now paralyzed from up to your spine to the waist down." (Barbara gasped in horror as she teared up.)

Barbara: "No...no, that's not me! It...It can't be me!" (Jim went through the door and saw Barbara in the hospital bed.)

Jim: "Babs!"

Barbara: "Dad!" (Jim ran to her and hugged her. Barbara cried in agony and pain.)

Doctor: "I'm truly sorry." (He walked out of the room and Jim kissed her head so many times.)

Jim: "Oh, it's okay. It's okay. I'm here." (Barbara kept crying in pain as Jim rubbed her messy hair and holding her gently to make it go away. A few hours later passed, Jim watched her sleep for so long until Dick came in the hospital room.)

Dick: "Hello, Mister Gordon."

Jim: "Oh, it's you again. I didn't catch your name, son." (He held out a hand.)

Dick: "It's Dick. Dick Grayson." (He shook his hand.)

Jim: "Hey, Dick. I'm sorry for what I said back there at the party. I know you're just trying to protect her. I just thought that you were one of those scumbag teenagers that do drugs and smoke. You know, things like that."

Dick: "Hehe. No, I don't do things like that. I'm a proper, kind and gentle young man."

Jim: "Then I respect nice gentlemen like you, Dick. You're okay." (Jim looked at his watch and it was 10:00 pm.)

Dick: "Thanks."

Jim: "Anyway, I think I should get back to the house. It's getting late. You should go home to, Dick."

Dick: "I would love to, but I want to stay here and watch over your daughter if you don't mind."

Jim: "Well, since you volunteered in doing so, why the hell not. Go ahead." (Dick smiled at him.)

Dick: "Thanks, Mister Gordon."

Jim: "Hey, call me Jim." (He was angry at first to Dick because he keeps saying Mister Gordon all the time.)

Jim: "And you're welcome." (He smiled as well and left the room. Dick held her hand and rubbed it while she was sleeping.)

Dick: "Barbara, can you hear me?" (She didn't respond and Dick looked down as he was a little sad.)

Dick: "I'm so sorry that this happened to you. I wish I had the power to heal you, but I can't. I wish I could've stay at the party, so we could dance all day long and then I would take you home and...we could...(Sighs) damn it. It's my fault. This is all my fault." (He puts her hand on his cheek and caressed it. Barbara slowly blinked and woke up. She looked over to the side and saw Dick.)

Barbara: (Weakly) "D-Dick?" (Dick looked up and saw her.)

Dick: "Barbara, are you okay?"

Barbara: (Weakly) "No. The pain is so unbearable and it hurts. It feels like I'm sleeping on shards of glass."

Dick: "God, Barbara. I'm so sorry." (Barbara tilted her head in confusion.)

Barbara: (Weakly) "For what?"

Dick: "For all of this happening to you." (He tried not to cry as he looked down.)

Barbara: "Dick." (She was concerned as she puts her hand under his chin and made him look in her eyes.)

Barbara: "You couldn't have known that this would happen." (She moved a strand of his hair back with the rest.)

Dick: "But still..." (She puts the tips of her fingers over his lips to shush him.)

Barbara: "Stop. You didn't do any of this." (She moved her hand away from his mouth.)

Dick: "Yeah, but I know who did."

Barbara: "Who, Dick? Who put me in that ditch?"

Dick: "It was a man that Batman told me. A person who was working with this group called the Pact."

Barbara: "That...monster."

Dick: "Yeah, I know. He was recklessly driving and I think you didn't noticed this, but he hit your back tires that made you go off the road." (Barbara clenched her hand into a fist.)

Barbara: "Where the hell is he now?"

Dick: "In prison. Are you okay?"

Barbara: "No, I'm angry, though."

Dick: "Barbara, you can't expect to jump into your costume and glide away just to get revenge."

Barbara: "I don't want revenge, Dick!"

Dick: "By the way your fist is clenched, I hardly doubt it."

Barbara: "I just want to ask him why he did it and what did he do it for?"

Dick: "By beating him to a pulp? Am I getting warmer?" (She sighed and admit it.)

Barbara: "Yes."

Dick: "I knew it. Look, why don't you let Batman and Nightwing handle it? We got it covered."

Barbara: "Wait. Nightwing?"

Dick: "Yeah. Nightwing and Batman are on it."

Barbara: "No, not that, dummy. You changed names now?"

Dick: "What? You don't think it sounds cool?"

Barbara: "Well, actually...it really is cooler than Robin."

Dick: "Well, at least you're being honest about it."

Barbara: "Of course I'm being honest. Why wouldn't I be honest?"

Dick: "Fair. So, do you like the hospital?"

Barbara: "No, it's scary and I want to leave."

Dick: "But we can't just go out."

Barbara: "Don't know, maybe you never tried to."

Dick: "You have to stay here."

Barbara: "But I don't want to. I want to go somewhere nice, not where it's white and bright."

Dick: "Well, since you want to go to somewhere nice...how about my house?"

Barbara: "That doesn't sound bad."

Dick: "We can't just walk out though."

Barbara: "No problem. We'll go out the window."

Dick: "The window? Are you crazy?"

Barbara: "Maybe. Look, you have agility and speed. I think we'll be fine."

Dick: "Barbara, if the nurses find out that we were gone..."

Barbara: "They're never going to find out because there is a fake dummy in the wardrobe."

Dick: "The wardrobe?" (He looked at the wardrobe and opened it. He saw a nice dummy puppet sitting in the back.)

Dick: "Well, what do you know. Great job, Babs."

Barbara: "Thank you. Place it next to me and put the IV in the dummy's arm so we can get out of here."

Dick: "You have such great ideas, Babs."

Barbara: "I know." (Dick puts the IV in the dummy and sat it up straight. He picked up Barbara and opened the window.)

Barbara: (Whispers) "Fantastic! Now, let's go!"

Dick: (Whispers) "Put your arms around my neck and hold on tightly."

Barbara: (Whispers) "Don't have to tell me twice." (Dick turns off the light and climbed up to the roof and jumped from roof to roof. Five minutes later, they arrived at Dick Grayson's house.)

(Dick was heading up the stairs while holding Barbara.)

Dick: "You're alright?"

Barbara: "Happy. That I brought this." (He showed her the lava lamp from her bag.)

Dick: "Wow, a lava lamp. Where did you get that?"

Barbara: "Dinah."

Dick: "Oh, that was nice of her."

Barbara: "And...guess who came with me?" (Ace popped his head out and barked. Dick laughed.)

Dick: "Well, well, well. Ace, you are a hero for bringing in the groceries."

Barbara: "And speaking of, I should've gave my dad the groceries. I guess they're for me now. I can't stand cafeteria food."

Dick: "Even though, you eat it at school."

Barbara: "Well, true. It's different."

Dick: "Nope, they're all the same."

Barbara: "Okay, food master." (Dick laughed as they went inside his home.)

Dick: "Welcome to my house, Barbara. What do you think?" (He sits her in a comfy chair.)

Barbara: "It's incredible."

Dick: "Thanks. Are you hungry?"

Barbara: "Just a little bit."

Dick: "Okay, do you want a snack? I got potato chips."

Barbara: "What kind?"

Dick: "Salt and vinegar."

Barbara: "I'll take it." (She smiled and he gave her a bag and she eats them.)

Barbara: "So..."

Dick: "Are you happy that we got out of the hospital?"

Barbara: "Yes, I feel so free and confident that I'm outside. I don't like it when I feel trapped."

Dick: "Same here. I'm happy that you're out here too." (Barbara smiled and looked down for a second.)

Barbara: "Thank you for that rose at the party."

Dick: "Anytime, Babs. I just wanted to make you happy."

Barbara: "You already make me happy, Dick. Matter of fact, you've always made me happy ever since we first met. I could never let go of that moment."

Dick: "Yeah, same here."

Barbara: "And remember you took me out to dinner? That was the greatest moment of my life. It was wonderful."

Dick: "Indeed."

Barbara: "But there's one more thing I want you to do for me?"

Dick: "Sure, what is it, Babs?" (She grinned.)

Barbara: "May you please carry me again?"

Dick: "Of course." (He smiled as he picked her up off the chair.)

Dick: "There. Is that all you wanted?"

Barbara: "That's all I wanted." (Dick saw her Batgirl necklace.)

Dick: "That's a nice necklace." (Suddenly, he thought about what Bruce said about using a key for something.)

Dick: (Thoughts) "Wait a minute. Maybe if I used my necklace..." (Barbara saw Dick's necklace around his neck.)

Barbara: "Thanks. Your necklace is pretty cool as well." (She looked and noticed something in her mind.)

Barbara: (Thoughts) "Hold on a sec. Is that what Frankie was mentioning before I left her house?"

Dick: "Thanks. I...wait. Let me see your necklace."

Barbara: "Huh? O-Okay." (She hold the necklace in front of her and Dick separates it carefully. He took his necklace and separates it as well. Then he took her half and his half and slowly moved it towards each other. Barbara was hypnotized by the tension of him putting them closer to see if it's true. As he puts them together, he heard a clip sound that it worked and it started to glow brightly then it engraved a heart in the middle.)

(Barbara's face lit up with excitement and Dick was surprised.)

Dick: "Wow."

Barbara: "That was awesome. So, that's what Frankie meant. Incredible."

Dick: "I understand it now. Both of our necklaces connects to something and it connects...."

Dick and Barbara: "To our relationship." (They smiled at each other and softly chuckled. Suddenly, Dick looked down and Barbara was concerned at the problem.)

Barbara: "Dick, what's wrong?" (He held their connected necklaces in his palm.)

Dick: "They both say that our necklaces are the key to our relationship....but how long will that last?" (He stared deeply at it and Barbara was worried, but she turned his face to look at her and he looked a little serious as Barbara caressed his cheek and kissed him for 3 seconds then she lets go and smiled at him. Dick stared at her and then suddenly dove into her lips. Barbara's arms wrapped around his neck and he kissed her neck. She lightly moaned in his ear while he was doing that and he thought that he was hurting her.)

Dick: "Are you okay? Am I hurting you?"

Barbara: "No. Not at all." (Dick smiled and took her upstairs to his room. He carried her and laid her down on his bed as he turned off the lights and turned on the lava lamp. It was pitch black dark though the lamp was bright enough for them to see what they were doing.)

(Dick took his shirt off and shook his hair as Barbara touched his warm skin. She wrapped hands around his head and drew him in for a kiss. Dick slightly moaned as he kept kissing her. He helped her with her shirt and kissed her back.)

Dick: "I still wished your spine was healed."

Barbara: "Dick, just shut about about my back." (Barbara kissed him again and he kept feeling sorry about her body, but she wouldn't allow that to get in way of their love. Dick got top of her, so she wouldn't struggle sitting up. Barbara kissed his chest and downwards to his torso. Dick moaned a little bit loud as he rubbed her back. She was biting his neck gently as Dick gritted his teeth. He was taking everything off of her and same goes to Barbara. They just kept making love together as Ace was sleeping soundly letting them have their privacy like a good puppy. 20 minutes later, they were relaxing.)

Dick: "How do you feel, Babs?"

Barbara: "Like I can't feel my legs." (Dick raised an eyebrow.)

Dick: "Really?"

Barbara: "What? That wasn't funny?"

Dick: "I mean it was funny, but really?"

Barbara: "Oh, my god. Just come here, Lovewing." (She drew him in for another kiss.)

Dick: "Mmm." (He kissed her neck and Barbara giggled.)

Barbara: "Dick. You are too adorable."

Dick: "No, you are." (He kissed her while he puts the covers over them.)

Barbara: "Hm. You know I have to go back to the hospital later."

Dick: "I mean you don't really have to."

Barbara: "Why? You can't stand my soft touches?"

Dick: "Hehe. That and I want you to stay with me tonight."

Barbara: "Dick, the nurses is going to find out if I'm..." (He held her hand.)

Dick: "Barbara, please. Stay with me, then I'll take you back before the nurses enter your hospital room. I promise. Just stay with me." (Barbara stared into his blue eyes.)

Barbara: "Okay. I'll stay with you." (She laid down on Dick's arm and went to sleep with him. After a few minutes of sleeping, Dick got Ace and puts him in her backpack as he got dressed and dressed up Barbara as well. Then he carried her back to the hospital room. He moved the dummy out of the way and laid her down in the bed and kissed her on the lips good night as he separates the necklace from hers and puts them back to the way they were and he looked at her one more time as she was sleeping. He smiled and headed out the window. The nurses went to go check on Barbara and they noticed she was sleeping so they never bothered her and she was sleeping as an angel ever since Dick made love to her in his very home.)
