The TARDIS soon stopped at the Kent Farmhouse in Smallville. They let Martha out of the spaceship, and she smiled. "I can't thank you all enough," said Martha as she smiled at Batman, Batgirl, and Dr. Woof. "Of course," said Batgirl. "Take care Mrs. Kent," said Batman as the TARDIS was closed, and then flew away. "Can you get us to Slaughter Swamp?" asked Batman. "Yes, I can," said Dr. Woof as he flew the ship to Slaughter Swamp, landing on the ground. Lex looked at the TARDIS, then at his book, and said, "I don't remember summoning that." The door opened and struck Lex in the face, knocking him to the ground. The three companions got out. Superman was then thrown to the ground, the wind knocked out of him. "Are you okay Superman?" asked Dr. Woof. "A talking dog?" Superman confusedly asked, wondering if he was seeing things due to the concussion Grundy gave him. "He's with the TARDIS," explained Batgirl as she and Batman helped Superman get up. Grundy came out, roaring. He looked at the three strangers and roared, "GRUNDY CRUSH POINTY EAR LITTLE MAN, DOGGY, AND LITTLE REDHEAD!"

"Little Redhead?" Batgirl asked, offended. "His name's Solomon Grundy," explained Superman, "and he came from that dark magic book." Batman glared at Grundy. "He might be controlled by the book," said Batgirl. "Let's fight him together," said Batman. "Both of you be careful," said Superman. "Dr. Woof, get the book," ordered Batgirl as she, Batman, and Superman then charged at Grundy, fighting the zombie. Batman and Batgirl used their many gadgets from their utility belt while Superman didn't hold back during the fight. Dr. Woof then looked for Lex Luthor, and saw he was still on the ground, holding the book. Dr. Woof grabbed the book with his mouth. Lex saw this, and tried to snatch it. "That's mine!" he protested, tugging the book. Dr. Woof growled the way he would usually growl when playing tug of war. But Dr. Woof was not in the mood to play tug of war. "This isn't tug of war, doggy," taunted Lex as he kept on tugging with the book, but Dr. Woof had a strong grip as he kept on tugging back, shaking hard enough to try and loosen Lex's grip. After several minutes of the three heroes fighting Grundy while Lex and the Canine Doctor were fighting, Lex's fingers slipped as Dr. Woof successfully got the book and ran to Batgirl, Batman, and Superman. "I got it!" he said. "That book needs to be destroyed!" said Batman as he kicked Grundy back. Superman took the book, and with his heat vision, destroyed the Book of Dark Magic.

"NO!!!!!!!" screamed Lex in dismay. The ashes of what was left flew away. That's when Grundy's eyes were no longer black, and he stopped fighting. Grundy then gave a confused look on his face, and said, "Where am Grundy?" He looked around. "It's okay Grundy," said Dr. Woof, "you're among friends." Grundy tilted his head and asked, "Friends?" Dr. Woof nodded, and Grundy gently petted Dr. Woof, saying, "Friends good. Grundy like doggy. Doggy Grundy's friend." Batgirl chuckled a little. Superman then grabbed Lex and said, "As I said before, I'm taking you in without breaking you, which is more than you deserve." He then flew with Lex away. Batman smiled a little and petted Dr. Woof.
