Meeting With Her Father
It was a day after Barbara made her triumphant return as Batgirl, and she decided to surprise her father. She got up and got dressed, leaving her Clock Tower. As she walked around Gotham, she hummed to herself. A half hour later, she was outside the Gotham City Police Department building. She then went in, and walked over to her father's office. Her father, Commissioner James Gordon, was writing down files about the most recent arrests, and another mysterious Bat Vigilante, but this time, one that wasn't doing the recent "Bat Branding." It almost reminded him of the Batgirl that allied herself with Batman. "Wait, she has red hair..." thought Jim as he looked at an old photo of Batgirl. But those thoughts were interrupted when someone knocked at his door. "Come in," he said, putting the files away.
The door opened, and in came his daughter, actually walking! "Hi Daddy," Barbara said happily. "Why Barbara, you're actually walking!" Jim said happily as he stood up from his desk and hugged his daughter. Barbara hugged back and said, "It's great to see you Dad. I was wondering, would you like to have lunch?" Jim smiled and said, "I would love to." He and Babs left his office as Jim said aloud, "Harvey, I'm off to lunch with my daughter." He and Barbara decided to have lunch at Barbara's favorite place, and they catched up, and were having a good time. Still, during this time, it made Jim think. Was it any coincidence that this mysterious Batgirl came out of nowhere last night, and suddenly, his daughter was walking again? After lunch was finished, Jim suddenly put two and two together, and out of the blue, said, "You're Batgirl, aren't you?" This surprised Barbara as she said, "What? Dad, what are you-"
"Barbara, I read the file on a mysterious Bat Vigilante stopping two burglars from a family that didn't brand the crooks," said Jim, "if this vigilante was allegedly Batgirl, then it's no coincidence that you're walking again. Or when Batgirl disappeared when you got shot." Barbara wasn't sure how to react. On the one hand, her father was a detective, and him finding out about her secret was inevitable. "It's the red hair, isn't it?" asked Barbara. She looked at her father, who didn't look mad or anything. "I had a feeling," said Jim. "You're not mad, are you?" she asked, a little scared. "A little," said Jim, "Mostly at Batman for not telling me. But I'm also proud that you're brave to save innocent lives. Barbara, you're my daughter, and I love you no matter what." Barbara smiled, though she still had to wonder... "You'll keep my secret safe, right?" asked Barbara. "Of course Barbara," Jim promised, and Barbara hugged him, smiling. "Be safe out there, okay?" asked Jim. "I will Daddy," she said. Jim smiled and said, "That's my girl."
