Confrontation

The following night, Jim decided to talk to Batman. He went up to the building where the Bat Signal was, back when he would turn it on and summon him. He went to the top and turned on the Bat Signal, summoning the light. He looked at his watch. Several minutes later, Batman himself then showed up. "Was wondering when you'd show up," said Jim.

"Is something wrong, Jim?" asked Batman, his voice altered to sound deep and robotic due to the cowl. "No, I just wanted to talk," replied Jim, "I've known you for 20 years, and you're the only one I know that doesn't want to be called." Batman then said, "Well, here I am. What's there to talk about?"

"I'll tell ya," said Jim, "you see, today I had lunch with my daughter. And I found out something. It seems my daughter is Batgirl." Batman was both surprised and unsurprised at the same time. Unsurprised because Jim was a detective and could easily deduce that Barbara was Batgirl, but shocked that he found out so recently. "Jim, I-"

Before Batman could say anything else to try and reason with him, Jim then punched Batman straight in the face. "That is for not telling me about my daughter's secret!" Jim angrily said, "Do you know how many times MY daughter risked her life, following in your damn footsteps?" Batman was taken aback at how hard Jim punched him. But he could understand why Jim was angry. Jim was his best friend, and Barbara was like a daughter to Bruce, and he hated hiding this secret from him. "Lucky for both you and her, her secret is safe with me," said Jim. "Good to know," said Batman, "can you forgive me for not telling you?" Jim looked at Batman and said, "Yeah, but you and Barbara better not hide any more secrets from me again, got it?" Batman nodded. "Now get back to work." Batman then got out his grappling hook, and went off into the night.

This chapter is basically inspired by a scene in Batgirl #22 where Commissioner Gordon actually does punch Batman.
