Chapter 1: Totally Normal

"Catch up, slowpoke!" yelled Umbra, a teenage vigilante. Behind him was his brother and best friend, Void. "I'm coming!" came the reply. "Race you to the house!" Umbra challenged, picking up his pace. "No fair!" Void shouted, trying to keep up.

--

Dune punched a thug in the face. "Say something else, I dare you," she told the man. "You are weak, little girl," he spat. "Does mommy know you're out past bedtime?" A female thug taunted. "That was your cue to shut up," Dune scoffed, her eyes glowing a bright red.

--

Insight was perched on a rooftop, waiting for something to happen. It had been a quiet night for the vigilante. She felt her phone vibrate in her pocket. She checked, seeing a text from her foster mom, Jen Turner. "Time for dinner," Insight said to herself, putting the phone away and hurrying back to the house.

--

Back in their room, Umbra tugged off his full-face mask, revealing Nick Coleman's messy blonde hair. "Hurry up, dude!" he called for his twin brother, who was climbing in the room through the window. "I'm coming, I'm coming," Noah Coleman scoffed, pulling off his own mask.

Nick and Noah were Metas, in other words, they had superhuman abilities. Nick could manipulate shadows, and Noah could turn them into solid objects. They lost their parents in a car accident when they were 12, and were in and out of foster homes until the Turners took them in.

--

Dune pulled down her hood and took off her necklace, which was a red stone. It was the stone of the Dune, that she had found at a yard sale. She put it on later that day and became the guardian of the stone. She also gained superpowers. Sand manipulation and can make others see illusions.

Upon taking off her necklace, her super suit faded, leaving her in civilian clothing, and her red eyes turned a cold blue again. Sydney Turner frowned, seeing a small cut above her eyebrow in the mirror. She grabbed a bandaid and used her dark hair to cover it up for now.

--

Insight took off her domino mask, revealing warm brown eyes. Brielle Wilson yanked off her hood, pulling on a t-shirt in record timing. She took out her contacts, put on her glasses, and put her brown hair in a messy bun.

Brielle came from a complicated home. Her alcoholic father died of an overdose when she was 11, and her mom and 3 older brothers went missing not long later. She was so scared of disappearing too, that her powers kicked in. She could learn the past of something/someone through touch, sense other's emotions, and occasionally feel one's pain. The last one felt like a curse.

--

"Dinner!" Jen Turner yelled up the stairs. Her husband, Michael Turner sat at the table, browsing through the newspaper. Two of her six kids came into the kitchen, Avery George and Willow Jackson.

Avery's long red hair was in a neat braid. The 11-year-old's face was littered with freckles and her bright green eyes shined brightly at the sight of food. Willow was an albino, and significantly paler than the rest of the kids. The 9-year-old's light blue eyes lit up when she saw spaghetti on the counter. Her curly white hair was in a ponytail, with a red ribbon holding it in place.

Sydney was the first one downstairs, her dark hair slightly frizzy. She was followed by Brielle, who was adjusting her glasses. The twins came last, bickering over some random topic as usual.

"Let's eat," Jen smiled warmly. Michael set down his newspaper. "How was everyone's day?" he asked, sounding like he wasn't interested in the topic.

Sydney was first to answer, cutting off Noah. "I won first place in the spelling bee and got an A+ on my math test," she smiled smugly. "Congratulations, honey, that's amazing!" Jen gushed.  Michael just gave a thumbs up. "That's great, sweetie."

"I went on a fieldtrip to the zoo!" Willow exclaimed excitedly. "I got to hold a spider!"

Brielle, Avery, Nick, Noah, and Sydney shuddered. The kid was practically fearless. "Wow," Jen shuddered slightly.

"I beat everyone in dodgeball!" Avery spoke up. "I even hit Sabrina in the face!" Sabrina was a miniature devil in Avery's class. She bullied other kids and gloated over everything.

"Yours truly is running for class president," Noah announced. Sydney raised a judging eyebrow. "You?" she asked. Noah scoffed. "Of course not, Nick is."

"That's even worse!" Sydney exclaimed. "Sydney," Jen gave her a look. Sydney grumbled something along the lines of "I didn't do anything".

Nick smirked. "And Noah here is running for secretary," he nudged his brother. "I got a 100 on my essay," Brielle said quietly.

"That's amazing, you guys," Jen praised them. "Isn't it amazing, honey?" she asked Michael. "Yep," he said, probably not paying attention.

The dinner table fell into a peaceful silence after that. The news was playing in the kitchen, talking about a chain of robberies that have happened over this week.

Brielle listened as the news reporter brought up the usual topic: "Who are the mysterious vigilantes in Gotham?"

"We have the infamous dynamic duo, Batman and Robin, but over the years, there's been more! Nightwing, Red Hood, Red Robin, Signal, Spoiler, Orphan, and Batgirl have been helping people alongside the Dark Knight. But there's also a curious thing, what about Gotham's newest vigilantes, Dune, Insight, Umbra, and Void? Do they work with or against Batman? Are they here for good, or for bad? And where are they now?" The news reporter asks.

"When I grow up, I wanna be just like Wonder Woman! She's the coolest!" Willow said excitedly. "No way! Nightwing is cooler!" Avery argued. "Here we go," Sydney muttered under her breath.

--

It was nearing one in the morning, and all was silent in the Turner house. Everyone was fast asleep. Well... almost everyone. Three bedrooms empty, four teens missing.

--

Dune was perched on a rooftop, her sharp eyes scanning her surroundings. "I see nothing," the stone said. "Neither do I," Dune replied.

"This anonymous tip seems rather suspicious," the stone observed.

Dune shrugged. "Doesn't hurt to check."

--

Umbra and Void, Void and Umbra. The terrific twosome, two of a kind. That's how it's always been for the Coleman twins. Trust no one but each other. After all, all they had was each other.

"Where did the note say it was?" Void asked Umbra as the two leapt across rooftops. "Uh.. somewhere by the docks I think," Umbra replied, trying to remember what the note said.

--

Insight was hidden among the shadows, observing from afar. She had received an anonymous tip yesterday about a drug deal going on at the docks, which should be happening in about 5-10 minutes.

She suddenly felt a presence beside her, their emotion: annoyed.

"Ugh, you've got to be kidding me," a voice scoffed. Insight glanced to her left to see Dune standing there with her arms crossed. "I was here first," Insight pointed out.

"Oh, come on!" an all too familiar voice rang out. Umbra and Void jumped down from a rooftop, landing next to Dune and Insight. "Ugh, not you too!" Dune groaned. "I got a tip, so stay out of my way!"

"Hey, we got one too!" Umbra and Void said simultaneously. "I did as well," Insight spoke up. Dune groaned again. "Great."

"I got here first, dibs!" Insight called. "Hey, what- That's not fair!" Umbra crossed his arms.

"Shut up!" Void said, motioning to the small group of shady people.

--

Dune snuck away from the group, inching closer to the drug deal. "Imbeciles," she muttered under her breath. "I believe it'd be best if you worked with them. It might prove beneficial," the stone advised. "I'm fine alone," Dune scoffed.

--

"Wait, where'd sand lady go?" Umbra asked. "You mean Dune?" Insight asked.

"Whatever," Umbra muttered. "Come on, Void."

Umbra and Void suddenly disappeared, reappearing by the drug dealers. Insight rolled her eyes. "Show-offs."

--

"You got the cash?" A guy asked another guy. "Yeah. Two hundred?" the other guy questioned. The first guy facepalmed. "It's four hundred, you idiot!"

"Four hundred?! I swear you told us two hundred!" A third guy exclaimed. "Inflation, buddy. Now come on, I wanna see cash!" A fourth guy cut in.

--

"Idiots," Dune muttered, preparing to make a move. Suddenly, Insight came from nowhere and swiftly knocked the four guys out.

"Dude, what?!" Umbra exclaimed. "We had them!" Void chimed in. "Seriously?!" Dune groaned.

"I was here first. I called dibs," Insight shrugged. She sensed their annoyance and frustration. Well, tough luck.

"You little-!" Dune tackled Insight, and soon the two girls were wrestling on the ground. Umbra and Void did nothing, just watched in amusement. "Girls," Umbra rolled his eyes.

"Hey!" A voice shouted, catching all of their attention.

Question Of The Day (QOTD): If you could have a superpower, what would it be?

I'd want to be able to choose any movie/book character and have their superpower for 24 hours :D

I'd probably pick Miss Martian's first-
