Not Ready

Tim deserves love
Tim- 13
________________

Bruce had just recently adopted a new child, Timothy Jackson Drake. Prior, the child had figured out his, Dick's, and Jason's identities. Though, for the recent death of Jason, Bruce didn't start training Tim yet. He felt awful and guilty when Jason died, he just couldn't let it happen again, leaving Tim very displeased.

"Come on Bruce, please!" Tim begged, following said man down into the batcave. "I said no, Tim. I don't want you out fighting yet." Bruce said for what felt like the hundredth time. No doubt the boy was a genius and Bruce knew he could be a great Robin.

"Why not?" Tim questioned. Bruce sighed, sitting in front of the bat-computer and typing something up. "I told you, you're not ready." Bruce replied. That was a partial lie, it was that Bruce himself wasn't ready. "I figured out everyone's identities singlehandedly, doesn't that prove something?" Tim reasoned. He wanted to help make Gotham better, that's all. "Yes, Tim, it's very impressive. You shocked even me when you told me and I know you'll be very great out on the field, but just not now."

Tim turned away and kicked a rock to slightly calm himself. "If you start training me now, I'll be ready sooner!" Tim said, turning back and maneuvering around to the side of the chair to look at Bruce. "I'll do everything you say, I'll follow every instruction, every exercise, just everything!" He pleaded. Bruce stood up pulling the cowl over his face and walking over to the batmobile. "We're done discussing this. I'll be back later." Bruce finished, driving off.

Tim watched him leave with a death glare, almost reaching batglare level. He began back up to the manor.

Bruce didn't really know where any crimes were that night, he just needed time to think about Tim. He was stuck between starting Tim's training or waiting. Yes, Jason died, but he can prevent that from happening to Tim by training him, but on the other hand, not putting him out in the field at all would leave zero risk. Not letting Tim be Robin would crush him though. But letting him be Robin might actually crush him. Bruce slammed on the gas, suddenly hearing a scream.

He pulled into a nearby alley and quickly hid the batmobile then running towards the scream. He hid in the dark, finding a good enough view until he saw the problem. A woman's body was surrounded by 3 gang members, she was dead. 'I got here too late' Bruce thought, thinking up a plan to ambush them. He moved over to a man closer to the dark and grabbed him, covering his mouth and nose to cause him to pass out. No one noticed his absence yet.

Next, Bruce stood up, revealing himself, and quickly kicking the back of another gang members knees. He fell with a grunt but didn't stand back up. The others lunged towards him, some pulling out their guns. One came toward him pointing his gun shakily at the dark knight, only to have it punched away. It disappeared into the darkness but a thud was heard when it collided with the wall. When the gun was out of his hands, the man put up his trembling hands in defense before backing up and running away.

Bruce turned, looking for the other man, but he was no where to be seen. Suddenly, Bruce was knocked against the wall. The third man plunged a knife into Bruce's hand to keep him in place. Bruce winced but kept himself from making noise at the impact. The man placed a gun to Bruce's head and wrapped his finger around the trigger. "Any last words, Batman?" The man said with a smug expression. Right when he was about to pull on the trigger, another gun shot sounded and the man collapsed to the ground, falling unconscious.

Bruce looked with wide eyes at Tim, shakily holding a gun with a frightened look. Tim had shot the man in the leg. Tim ran over to Bruce and gasped at the knife. "Batman! Are you ok?" Tim asked, concerned for his adoptive father. Bruce pulled out the knife swiftly and quickly applied pressure with his other hand before ripping off a piece of his cape and wrapping it around the wound. "I'm fine. Better question, what are you doing here?!" Bruce exclaimed. Tim opened his mouth to say something but closed it again. He looked down, "I just wanted to help, to show you I am ready." Tim said, looking up at Bruce's eyes for the last part.

"I'm very proud of you, doing that wasn't an easy thing to do, especially since you don't know how to use that thing." Bruce replied, gesturing over at the gun Tim dropped with a small smile. Tim looked up at Bruce with hopeful eyes. "Does that mean-" "Yes, it means I'll train you. But you have to promise to be careful, and to never do something like this again." Bruce said. Tim's whole face lit up. He was going to be Robin! He was practically bouncing with excitement.

"Come on, let's get back before Alfred has a heart attack when realizes you're gone." Bruce said, beginning to walk towards the batmobile. Tim scratched the back of his head sheepishly, "Yeah..probably not the best idea."
