Damian: 10
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Bruce and Damian were out on patrol per usual. Nothing especially bad had happened yet. They'd been standing on the same building for over two hours by now. The cold, winter air blowing forcefully against them.
Bruce began to notice how unusually quiet Damian was. Of course he didn't talk much in the first place but on normal days they were stuck doing nothing, he complained at least a couple times, but this time he said nothing. Bruce just shrugged this aside. Maybe he just didn't want to talk?
Bruce looked over to Damian. He had his hood up and was in a sort of ball, hugging his knees on the ledge, looking down at the streets. This was even more unusual. Damian never, never let himself be this vulnerable, especially on patrol. "Robin," Bruce started, in a gruff voice. Damian looked over at him. His face was way more pale than it was before. "Are you feeling alright?" Bruce questioned. "Perfectly fine, Batman."
Bruce wasn't buying any of it. "Go home. I can take care of patrol." Those words set Damian off. "What? Did you not just hear me say I'm fine?" He was about to continue on but fell into a fit of coughs. Bruce sighed and picked Damian up off the ledge. "I do not," another cough, "require your assistance, father!" Damian retorted, his voice sounding strained. Bruce just wasn't even listening at this point.
Damian was still in his arms, semi-trying to get free. 'He wasn't feeling his strongest at the moment' is what Damian would think. He really was just enjoying the warm touch of his father. He felt..protected, as if nothing could hurt him at this moment, and in a sense, nothing could. If anything even tried to hurt Damian while Bruce was within 10ft away from him, let alone holding him, they'd be in a hospital bed for a month.
"Do I have to carry you my self or can you go alone?" Damian didn't answer. He couldn't say he wanted to be carried! That's far too childish! But, he also didn't want to walk home.
Bruce took the hint. You don't have to be the worlds greatest detective to know what Damian wanted.
So he carried him. Bruce grappled down from the building they were on and down to the hidden Batmobile. He set Damian on the ground for him to get in himself. Damian sat still while Batman drove through the streets of Gotham.
They finally made it to the Batcave which really only took a few minutes due to Bruce driving 100 miles over the speed limit. Bruce got out of the Batmobile and waited to hear Damian's feet hit the floor as he got out too, but he didn't hear it. He walked over to Damian's side to reveal Damian curled up in his seat, asleep.
Bruce picked him up yet again, trying to be as careful as he could be not to wake him up, and took him out of the Batcave to the manor. He set him down on his bed and pulled the covers up to his chest.
"Goodnight, Damian."
