Things were never ever simple in the world and for one innocent soul it seemed like nothing would be simple and alright. 

Trapped.

Ashamed.

Hurt.

Lost.

There was hate within the air, hurt within the seas, and hell on the ground.
Love burning through the flames that either destroyed everything in its path or created a new slate for something better.

There was a time when everything was wonderful and full of life. A set of parents who accepted their child with open arms but those arms soon fell away from their child, no longer being able to protect them from the harmful world outside. Their kind wings were clipped and shattered.

Bright blue eyes saw the once bright colored world darken around them. Warmth turned to cold and numbness filled everything.

But, things changed and light soon could be see again along with warmth the innocent soul was missing dearly.

A bright light shined into the once dark bedroom awaking the once sleeping child.

"Good morning mistress Dixie'' said Alfred with a warm smile upon his face but it soon fell when he saw the look held within Dixie's blue eyes. Alfred walked over towards he bed and sat down and placed his hand upon her shoulder. His soft, sweet gaze landed on her, causing tears to well up in her eyes. Dixie closed them quickly, trying to prevent herself from crying, she had already cried all night long with anxiety and panic attacks keeping her from sleeping.

"It will be alright dear'' said Alfred but she shook her head 'no'. She was so fearful of today's events. She was going with Bruce or more like Batman to Mount Justice to meet a team of young heroes and for her to join them. It seemed fine right? No it wasn't, because when she first became Robin she was still a he. So the world knew Robin as the Boy wonder.

When she grew up in the circus, the people there, her family accepted her. She was simply born in the wrong body, like the sweet woman who baked pies for everyone and gave the biggest hugs was born with a unibrow, 6 toes on one foot and had a beard. 
Dixie mother created her beautiful, girly uniforms for their performances and her parents let her grow her hair out. 

But, when they died before her eyes it shattered her badly. She was destroyed and upset feeling so lost in the world that she took it out upon herself, she cut and when she was taken to juvie they cut her hair and gave her boy clothing, making her close herself off and hide within herself. She hated it but she felt trapped even more than ever before.

Then Bruce Wayne showed up and changed everything. But the changes didn't happen right away.
Alfred was the first to notice that maybe things weren't what they seemed. The silent child was hiding something from the world and them.
So one day Alfred when to Dick.

"Master Dick?" said Alfred

Dick jumped and turned around quickly, throwing his hands behind his back. His face was red and he lowered his head, awaiting hurt and hate which he has only received after his parents passing.

Alfred slowly walked into his bedroom, shutting the door behind him. He slowly walked over towards the young child which he considered to be his grandchild. He reached out and kept his eyes locked on the child's face seeing his eyes closed with fear lanced throughout him. He touched Dick's arm and pulled it away from behind his back and looked down to see what he was hiding. 
Painted nails.

He pulled back and looked down at the child wanting answers and also wanting the kid to be happy and not sad and fearful.
"Master Dick, can you please look at me sir?" said Alfred and Dick slowly lifted his head up and then opened his blue eyes and a tear run down his face.
"What's seems to be the matter?" asked Alfred.

"Y-You...you're not m-mad?" Dick stuttered out.
"Why would I be mad?" Alfred asked him.

Dick held his hands out for Alfred to see his nails which were painted purple. Alfred took Dick's shaking hands in his and rubbed his thumb on Dick's hands trying to calm him down.

"I'm not mad sir. But I would like to know why you would think I would be and why you painted your nails" Alfred said but before Dick could say anything he threw himself at Alfred, wrapping his arms tightly around him and cried. Cried and whispered, telling him everything. Every little thing and Alfred's heart broke hearing this, hearing how he was treated and how he feared he and Bruce would react if they knew. After a bit Dick calmed down and Alfred pulled away to look at the red eyed, tear stained face.

"We love you no matter who you are, or what your gender you are. You have nothing to fear'' said Alfred pulling the child back into a hug. 

"Now, was there another name your parents called you?" whispered Alfred and the child nodded but didn't say anything because emotions were overpowering.

"Di-Di-Dixie'' she whispered and cried even more, pressing her head deeper into Alfred's waist. 

"Okay, well it is a pleasure to finally meet you...mistress Dixie'' said Alfred who smiled along with Dixie and Bruce who was standing outside his son...daughter's bedroom door. He was walking by when he heard crying but stopped when he saw Alfred have the situation under control.

After that everything changed. Dixie was able to shed her chains that locked her within herself and felt free to fly. 

Bruce got her name legally changed and helped his child in anyway he could, taking her clothes shopping, taking her to doctors and anything else to help her become who she truly was, who she always was. Both he and Alfred help shed the layers the covered the beautiful person underneath.

"Wh-What if they don't a-a-accept me? What if they want...the boy wonder, not me, the girl wonder? No one knows...me. I-I...I'm nothing to them! A FAKE!" cried Dixie and Alfred pulled Dixie from her bed and into a tight hug, rubbing her bed.

"Dixie'' said Bruce, pulling Dixie out of Alfred's hug. Dixie brushed the tears away and looked up at her dad. "It will be okay, come here'' he said and Dixie bounced off her bed and into her father's arms. 

"I love you tati!" said Dixie. Bruce smiled and ran his hand down her back, her hair has gotten so much longer and that made him happier for her.

"I love you too sweetheart!"said Bruce and kissed the top if her head, "Now lets ready.'' Dixie nodded her head, looked back at Alfred sending him a smile before dashing out of her room and down to the cave.

Dixie rushed into the changing room and threw on her uniform. After she was changed she looked at herself in the mirror and pulled at the ends of her long hair and sighed. At the beginning before she finally became The Girl Wonder she would put her hair in a bun to hide its length, but now, now she was the girl wonder and everyone was going to see her true self. So Dixie grabbed a red ribbon and tied half of her hair back then placed her mask over her eyes. She grabbed her gloves and froze for a moment, glancing down at her past scars who once placed upon herself. She sighed and slid them on, covering her scars and painted nails, nails that at one time she was scared to paint.

''Robin!" called Bruce and she ran out and smiled widely at him even though her chest was super tight and she could feel her anxiety levels rising.

''I'm ready!'' she yelled and hopped over towards the zeta tube. He nodded his head towards Alfred and pulled his cowl on and typed in their destination to the mountain.

Recognized; Batman 0-2.
Recognized; Robin b-0-1.

The bright light faded from them and Robin took a step back seeing a set of teens before her. Before anything or anyone said anything, some ran into the room with a bowl of popcorn but almost dropped it when they saw who entered.

"ROBIN!" 

Robin smiled and ran into open arms. "UNCLE FLASH!" she shouted and buried her face in the crock of his neck.

"Hey kiddo!" said Flash and set her back down with a huge smile across his face. Batman then stepped forward and address the teens.

"Team, this is Robin. She will be joining the team'' he said then placed his hand upon her shoulder to turn her to face him. The shared a look before he turned and left with Flash waving good-bye to her and following Batman.

"It is a pleasure to meet you Robin, I'm Kaldur. This is-" began Kaldur but was silenced when a gust of wind blew in and swept Robin off her feet and swirled in a circle. Everyone could hear the small chuckle from Robin and waited for Kid Flash to stop spinning around. 

Wally set her down on the ground and pull her into a tight hug. "Uncle Barry told me that you were coming but I did believe it babe!" he said happily. Robin smiled up at him but before either of them could say anything someone cleared their throat, grabbing both of their attention.

"I thought Robin was a boy." said Artemis who put her hands on her hip and tilted her head to the side awaiting to hear an answer, "Isn't that why he is called the boy wonder?"

Dixie lowered her head slightly which no one noticed but Wally and he glared at Artemis for making his best friend feel uncomfortable.

"I was wondering this as well'' Kaldur suddenly said and looked at Dixie for an answer. Wally quickly reached out and took her hand in his and shot her a warm smile before addressing the team.

"No. Robin isn't a boy, she has never been. She's perfect just the way she is!" said Wally and gave her hand a tiny squeeze to let her know that he had her back and had nothing to worry about. A tiny blush came across her face.

"We didn't me to imply that we-" began Kaldur but M'gann jumped up at down with excitement and flew over towards her.

"Great! We are so thrilled to have you on the team. Would you like a tour Robin?'' said M'gann and Robin nodded and glanced at Wally who nodded his head signalling to her that he was coming along with her.

The team walked down the hallway.

Everything seemed to be alright, it was a little stressful and Dixie still had her fears and doubts but she had a feeling that this was simple and that this team thing was going to work out and be alright.

Dixie glanced up at Wally and smiled widely, she was so glad that she had her best friend by her side.

She was free to be herself and to fly with so much love and light within her soul.
