Easter.
A/n: Dick is a little boy, age: 7. He just came to live with Bruce after the death of his parents when be was 6. This is his very first time celebrating Easter.
(for this chapter, his bday is in March and his mom and dad were killed when he was six years old. And the first time Dick has a sugar high)
Dick woke up to the curtains within his bedroom being pulled apart. Allowing the warm and bright sun rays to spill into his dark bedroom.
He squinted his bright blue eyes and glanced over towards the large window to see Alfred pulling the currents aside.
"Ah, good morning young master Dick" said Alfred who smiled down at him.
Dick yawn and stretched his arms out wide.
"Morning...Alf" whispered Dick who was still half asleep. He rubbed his eyes and sent Alfred a warm smile.
"Master Bruce is wake and is requesting you to make an appearance at today's morning breakfast sir" Alfred said and walked over towards him and ruffled Dick's hair a bit before heading to the door.
" Chop chop" and with that the Butler left Dick alone.
Dick quickly threw off the covers and got dressed. Curiosity was filling him up, what could Bruce want him for? Especially this early on the weekend.
He dashed down the flight of stairs and threw open the doors to see Bruce sitting at the large and long dining room table reading the newspaper. Bruce looked up from the paper and smiled at dick which dick returned and then walked over towards him.
"Morning Bruce" said Dick and then walked over towards his seat.
Bruce sat in silence as he watched the young boy in front of him so kindly thank the old butler for all the food he had prepared for them. He smiled and watched as Dick began to eat but then stopped and glance up at him, as if remembering the reasoning behind why he came down here in the first place.
"Bruce?" Dick questioned him.
"Yeah?" Bruce said as he folded up his newspaper, to give his son his full attention.
"Alfred said you wanted to see me, did I...did I d-do something w-wrong?" Dick said and caused Bruce to sigh.
He hated that that was the first thought that came into Dick's mind.
Dick's time after his parents death wasn't the best for the young boy. He was sent to juvie because all the orphanages were full. He was bullied and abused while he spent his time in there, making Dick to always second guess himself and fearful of disappointing everyone, a bit scared of being hit but mostly being alone again.
Dick's new fear was being abandoned. And Bruce hated that, he hated to see a small glimpse of fear within Dick's blue eyes, to hear him stutter out of worry.
"No Dick, you didn't do anything wrong I promise you that. I just have a small surprise in the living room for you." Bruce said as he watched his son's face and blue eyes light up.
"Really?" asked Dick,a bit of excitement within his voice. Bruce nodded his head and watched Dick smile up at him.
"But, you have to finish your breakfast first. Deal?" Bruce said and Dick shook his head 'yes' quickly and began to eat.
"Slowly master Dick, you don't want to choke now do we?" Alfred said and Dick paused on eating. He took a sip of his orange juice before lowering his head.
"No...I'm sorry" whispered Dick. Alfred sighed and looked over at Bruce.
"It's quite alright Sir, now finish up for I'm sure that you will enjoy the treats set out by master Bruce this morning" said Alfred who then left the two masters alone.
"Dick." Bruce said and waited for Dick to lift his head back up and met his gaze.
Dick slowly lifted his head up and looked up over at Bruce, a bit of sadness held within his eyes.
"Chum...you do know that neither Alfred nor myself would hurt you ever, right?" asked Bruce.
Both he and Alfred had been trying their best to reassure Dick that he was safe at the Manor with them.
Dick nodded his head 'yes', telling Bruce that he understood and knew perfectly well that he was safe there with them, but at times it was just hard for him to truly believe it, his fears would sneak up on him at times making him second guess everything.
Bruce sighed as he completely understood this.
"Why don't we go into the living room now. You can finish eating that later?" Bruce said.
-------------------------------
They entered the living room. Dick looked down at the table then looked up at Bruce. Bruce could clearly see the confusement written all over his son's face.
"What...what is it for?" asked Dick. Bruce walked over closer towards Dick and laid his hand upon his shoulder and lead him around the couch towards the easter basket that was full of different candies.
Bruce sat on the couch and motioned Dick forward to take a look at it.
Dick ran his fingers over the candies. He didn't understand why they were all placed in a colorful basket and what was so special about it. Dick turned to face Bruce with confusion still in his eyes.
"I-I don't understand. We already celebrated my birthday Bruce. What's this for?" Dick said.
Bruce then quickly explained what Easter was.
At the end Dick seemed very excited about it, well maybe not really about the holiday part or the history behind it but rather the fact that he could eat all the candy in the bucket.
Dick really never have eaten candy before, his mother would always tell him it wasn't good for him.
They never celebrated this day before and he believed Bruce when he told him it was alright to eat the sweets.
Dick smiled and moved closer towards his Easter basket. He grabbed ahold of some chocolate but before he ate it, his blue eyes landed upon a stuff animal.
It was a bunny rabbit with long downward ears. Dick quickly grabbed it and enjoyed how soft it was.
They only other stuff animal he had was his elephant from this circus that he still slept with every night. He held the bunny rabbit closet to his chest and sat down and ate some sweets.
It didn't take long at all for the sugar to hit Dick and when it did, both Alfred and Bruce were shocked.
Dick couldn't hold still at all. He was bouncing off the walls, literally. Doing hand springs, back flips, jumping jacks, you name it. He ran around the couch given at least 7 times. He was so hyper right now, on a total sugar high.
At one point he even left the living room, ran up the stairs at lightning speeds and slid down the banister and then repeat it about 12 more times. They even came to find him swinging from the chandelier.
They tried to calm Dick down but nothing seemed to work, they only thing they knew was that they had to, no... Needed to separate Dick from all the candy.
Soon his sugar high was coming down and he looked exhausted but he found some more candy and eat it just before the door bell rang out.
Dashing to the door and throwing open quickly, Dick lit up at who he saw standing there.
It was his best friends, his red heads Roy (age 10) and Wally (age 7).
Everyone soon went out into the yard for an easter egg hunt that Alfred set up for the boys.
Since it was Dick's first easter, he thought it would be even more enjoyable with his closest friends with him.
The three boys ran around the yard finding hidden eggs.
Dick ran along side Wally, with his new stuff animal flying through the wind behind him as he ran. Dick held onto one of the bunny rabbit ears and ran with it in search for the eggs, hoping to get the most.
After all the activities and excitement came to an end, the red headed boys left the manor.
Bruce and Alfred then soon found Dick fast asleep on the couch, with the stuff rabbit in his arms, a small amount of chocolate on his face and a tiny smile gracing his face.
He looked adorable and so sweet.
Bruce smiled, he was so glad he decided to take Dick into his home and life for he made everything so much better.
Bruce walked over and gently kissed the top of Dick's head and whispered to his son,
"Happy Easter Dick."
