Freedom
Everyone loves the feeling of freedom. Ebullience and joy fills them.
They try to pick up the pieces
Of themselves in that season.
Some want to flee from torture,
And in turn, cross the border.
Even birds want to be freed.
From their cages, they plead.
They want to be let out to see
What the world has; to soar above the sea.
As they spread their wings,
Joy is all it brings.
Freedom is like thunder, storming down the path.
Demanding to be seen and used, Knowing there are no limits, letting them feel your wrath.
Whether it be words or actions, to enlighten or confuse,
Let your feelings pour out to sting and lash
But this freedom is not always a fuse.
Sometimes it comes tickling and light, Like the footsteps of a winter frost, Or the marks left by night.
But sometimes it is wholly lost,
Taken with force and hoarded with might.
Sometimes it comes with heavy cost.
People take liberty do granted,
Because they've never had it taken from them.
They go ahead to take advantage,
To shut doors and people's lives, condemn.
Freedom they say, is the oxygen of the soul.
In its absence, people certainly loose control.
Written in our legacy, taken in our past, Once decided to be there,
But sometimes freedom won't last. Gathered around in the air
In the stars and stripes we cast, Freedom we were built on, and fight for it we dare.
