92. Hiding
CHAPTER NINETY-TWO
HIDING
Aaron was evidently a nervous wreck while in Steve's car. For more reasons than one.
Although Steve's lack of concern for safety seemed to be the top concern on his list, despite the fact they were all on their way to seek out a suspected murderer.
"I just think you should know, Steve, that I think it's really shallow of you to do this." The blond rambled on, crossing his arms firmly over his chest as he looked out the window to his left with a scowl etched onto his features. "In fact, not shallow- it is unbelievable of you to enable this."
"Oh, my god. Shut up, would you?" Steve scoffed from the driver seat. "You're fifteen years old, if you had such a problem with me driving you should have taken the bus, I wouldn't have stopped you-"
"The bus?" Aaron exclaimed with a horrified expression, his voice cracking due to a mix of offence and surprise. "The bus? Really, Steve? You know why I don't take the bus, there are about a billion diseases I could catch from sitting down on a seat alone."
Kimmy watched as Steve shook his head disapprovingly, mumbling something under his breath while placing a hand to his mouth.
"Aaron, I will never drive you anywhere ever again." The older boy snapped, the entire car silent beside the two bickering brothers. "Stop whining."
Kimmy felt the blond next to her flinch violently, snapping his body away from the window and breaking his protest against his brother. The brunette leaned her head back and closed her eyes, already sick of the two brothers.
"I am not whining!" The younger brother quite literally whined.
Moving to turn around to face the window once more before remembering a point he hadn't made and abruptly jumping back up to motion to his brother with his finger. "And another thing, I don't have a problem with you driving, I have a problem chasing after some load of drug dealers and wanted murderers, while violating every code of safety in existence! It is completely outrageous for the four of us to be in the backseat like this! I'm the only one wearing a seatbelt for godsakes-"
"Maybe you should go in the trunk, Aaron!" Max exclaimed with a faux look of bewilderment, leaning over Kimmy to talk. "That way, we can all sit comfortably, and we get peace and quiet!"
Kimmy rolled her eyes at Max's words as she watched Aaron snap his irked gaze from his brother onto Kimmy's best friend, knowing an argument would break out between the two.
"Or maybe we can leave you at the side of the road to make room?" Aaron scoffed, rolling his eyes at her before looking away and leaning his head back against his seat while he continued to complain.
"Imagine what people will think of us if we end up dead in a ditch? Jesus, we'll be shamed. Skipping out on work? Four kids crammed on top of each other in the backseat of a weirdos car?" Aaron was practically yelling now, his hands placed over his eyes while he continued to panic. "A car full of kids on the way to a drug dealers house? We are done for!"
Kimmy sighed, reaching up to take Aaron's hands away from his face. "Aaron, why have you got it into your head that we are all going to crash into a ditch?"
The blond scoffed, shaking his head at her while motioning to his older brother. "I'm just being realistic, Kimmy."
"Hardly." The girl muttered, Steve humming in agreement.
"With his driving it is." Aaron insisted with a huff. "Even I'd get us to Reefer Rick's safer than he probably will-"
"Do not feed her that bullshit, Aaron!" Steve yelled rather abruptly from the front seat. "I let you try drive my car into the garage one time - one time and you crashed my car into the side of-"
"I did not crash your car I grazed it!" Aaron yelled back, suddenly wound up again. "There was barely a scratch on it- you promised you wouldn't say anything about it!"
"Yeah, well promise broken." The older boy retorted, the eye roll present in his voice.
Kimmy watched as Aaron narrowed his eyes at his older brother before leaning forward and pointing in his face. "You are the devil-"
"Shut up!" Steve slapped Aaron's hand away, using one hand to steer the car and the other hand to push his little brothers face away while scoffing. "Chill out, Aaron."
"You won't be telling me to chill out when we're all dead." Aaron murmured sourly, causing Kimmy to scoff at his dramatics. "And even if Steve somehow doesn't kill us, I hope you're all reassured to know that Eddie Munson - a boy suspected of murder, will be waiting for us with a big smile, and a big knife-"
"Aaron!" Kimmy yelled at him with wide eyes, the blond raising his hands in mock surrender.
"Come on, Kimmy!" The boy groaned while rolling his eyes for what felt like the millionth time that hour. "He's already killed one teenager - that we know of. What's six more? This is how everyone in horror movies die! We are all going to die if we go and try find him-"
"Aaron, please." The brunette groaned in defeat. "Dustin says that Eddie hasn't killed anyone-"
"We don't know that." Aaron whispered to her, Kimmy's expression blank as he went on and on.
"Eddie wouldn't hurt a fly!" Dustin protested from the opposite side of the backseat.
"Okay." Aaron nodded in faux sincerity at the curly haired boy until Dustin looked away from him, Aaron then pretending to stab Kimmy repetitively once he was sure Dustin wasn't watching.
"Stop it." The brunette attempted to scold him in a hushed whisper while holding back a snicker. "It's not funny."
"Yeah, clearly." He scoffed while motioning to her poor attempt at holding back her laughs.
"Whatever." Kimmy murmured at him, attempting to look annoyed despite the fact they could both see her amused grin.
Just when Kimmy thought Aaron was perhaps now calm enough to make the lengthy car ride to Reefer Rick's, Steve had to spiral him back to his worrisome antics.
"Jesus, I hope Rick's not there." The brunette heard Steve mumble from the front seat. "I bet that dude is crazed out of his mind-"
"That's it!" Aaron suddenly yelled, sitting up completely straight as he began to panic once again. "Turn the car around, right now! I want to go home!"
"I'm not taking you home, Aaron." Steve scoffed, looking to Robin with a bewildered expression. "We've been driving for hours already-"
"Steve, please!" The blond suddenly began begging, his entire face scrunched up in fear. "I'm not built to deal with drug dealers and murderers! I'll shit myself if either of them look at me! I mean, maybe not Eddie, not after what I seen him do in the cafeteria-"
"Aaron!" Dustin yelled out in anger once more.
"Sorry!" Aaron yelled back at the frustrated boy. "I can't say I'm scared of him, I can't say he's a weirdo who I can't take seriously, I can't say he's a murderer! So what can I say?"
"I don't know, Aaron." Dustin hummed, pretending to think. "Maybe a compliment? Maybe that he's cool-"
"He's not cool." Aaron shut down quickly in a low voice with a shake of his head.
The curly haired boy's mouth dropped. "He is!"
"Is not."
"Is too."
"Is n-"
"Stop it." Kimmy told the blond firmly before he could continue. "He's worried for his friend."
"Kimmy, you have to admit Eddie's weird." The blond told her with a knowing expression, as if it was an almost factual statement.
"Stop it." The brunette repeated once more, sending him an expression that told him to drop the topic. "Eddie is Dustin's friend, if Dustin says he's cool then... then he- he must be."
"Thank you, Kimberley." Dustin replied smugly, grinning to himself as he looked away from the pair.
Aaron seemed to do a double take, furrowing his brows before speaking up in a perplexed tone. "Since when do you call her Kimberley?"
"I don't know if you're aware, Aaron, but Kimberley is Kimmy's name, and we're all free to call her that if we want." Max was quick to jump into the conversation, looking to the blond with an irked expression. "Not just you."
"I know that." Aaron quipped in an irritated voice. "It was just a question. I've never heard any of you call Kimmy Kimberley-"
"You don't call her Kimberley either!" Max accused with wide eyes.
"I call her Kimberley all the time you don't know what you're talking about." The blond insisted with a shrug.
"Why is it such a big deal?" Kimmy interrupted before Max had the chance, desperate to put the brewing argument at rest. "You guys can call me whatever you want. I don't care."
The rest of the car ride seemed to consist of Steve and Aaron's bickering as well as Dustin and Max chiming every now and then, the four going round in circles as Kimmy and Robin fought back eye rolls.
...
Upon arriving at the apparent address of Reefer Rick, Aaron was stressing himself out to a point that Kimmy couldn't remember the last time she'd seen him so wound up.
It was now dark out, the group had survived the hours long car ride despite all the bickering.
Dustin had rushed ahead, meanwhile Kimmy and Aaron were the furthest behind - due to Aaron's request, not Kimmy's.
"This is so sketchy." Aaron stressed to the brunette while frantically looking behind his shoulder as he reluctantly walked, his grip on Kimmy's hand so tight that it was actually beginning to hurt her. "Out in the middle of the woods? You know who hides out someplace like this? A serial killer, that's who. We're going to die here-"
"Aaron." Kimmy groaned in a hushed whisper. "Please, please stop telling me how we're about to die. It doesn't make me feel any better."
Kimmy heard him sigh, still not looking at her as he worried someone would be out in the woods to get them.
The brunette watched him with her lips pulled into the slightest of frowns, concerned with how much he was panicked.
"It's okay if you're scared." The girl told him quietly, not exactly sure where her point was leading to. "I think everyone is a little bit-"
"I'm not scared." Aaron instantly denied, although he was unable to meet her gaze, fearing someone was behind them. "I'm just-"
Dustin knocked on the front door of the house abruptly, positively scaring Aaron shitless. The blond flinched, practically jumping onto the brunette as he clutched onto her arm tightly.
Upon realising that it was only Dustin that had made the noise, Aaron cleared his throat awkwardly and collected himself. Removing his harsh grip from her and returning to simply holding her hand once more.
Dustin began knocking rapidly on the door, growing more and more anxious with each second passed.
"Okay. Well, that's settled." Steve sighed nonchalantly, sounding bored out of his mind. "I guess he's not here."
"Yes, yes!" Aaron gasped in relief, already trying to tug Kimmy back in the direction of the car. "He's not here - let's go-"
"Eddie!" The curly haired boy began to frantically yell, practically screaming into the door. "It's Dustin! Look, we just wanna talk, okay? No cops, I swear. We just wanna help!"
Kimmy watched with furrowed brows as Max and Robin began walking down a side path, flashing their lights into the windows of the house.
"Eddie?" Dustin was now yelling again, practically screaming as he cupped his hands and leaned against the door. "Reefer Rick-"
"Don't scream that!" Aaron panicked, placing his free hand over his face out of fear. "I don't want anyone working with the law to think I'm associated with any sort of drug dealer. I cannot get a criminal record."
"Jesus, get ahold of yourself." Steve scoffed disapprovingly at his younger brother.
Aaron chose to ignore the remark, although Kimmy figured it was more a fear driven decision.
"Maybe he's just really high." Dustin attempted to excuse Eddie's absence.
Kimmy hummed in agreement, much to Aaron's dismay. "He is a drug dealer-"
"Hey guys!" Max yelled out in an almost fearful tone. "Come here!"
Aaron was reluctant to follow Kimmy, in fact it ended in her having to drag him behind her as they followed Max and Robin down to the old looking garage.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa. Stop right now!" Aaron stressed, yelling at every one of his friends as they attempted to enter the run down looking garage just off of the house. "We are not going in there looking for him. If Eddie's hiding, he clearly doesn't want to be found. Let's leave it at that."
Of course, no one listened to the blond.
"Kimmy, please. We can't go in there, I don't want to die at the hands of Eddie Munson." The blond pleaded with her, clutching onto her hand tighter. "Come on, we can stay on look out... in the car-"
"I'll stay right next to you, I promise." Kimmy insisted as carefully as she could while slowly leading him into the old garage. "But we can't just leave everyone else-"
The sound of yelling from inside the garage cut Kimmy off, the two teenagers freezing and looking to each other with wide eyed expressions before rushing in after their friends.
Kimmy's entire body froze upon entering the small room, her eyes instantly falling on Eddie Munson who had Steve up against the wall with some sort of weapon pressed against his neck.
"What the hell is he doing?" Aaron yelled so loudly that he was practically screaming, motioning wildly to the boy who was currently under suspicion for murder. "I told you we shouldn't have come! He's killed Chrissy and now he's about to kill all of us!"
"Eddie, stop!" Dustin panicked, slowly stepping over to the older boys as he tried and failed to defuse the situation.
Eddie didn't seem to realise who it was yelling at him. Seeing as he didn't remove his weapon from Steve's neck.
"Dustin, he's fucking crazy!" Aaron yelled at his friend, motioning to the admittedly crazed expression that the Munson boy appeared to have burned into his features. "He needs to be put away!"
"Eddie, it's me!" The boy tried desperately, ignoring the insults Aaron was throwing out in the open about his friend. "It's Dustin. That's Steve, he's not going to hurt you. Right, Steve?"
"Yeah, right, totally." The eldest Harrington brother panicked, nodding frantically. "I'm cool, man. I'm cool."
"What are you doing here?" Eddie sneered, looking to Steve with an almost disgusted expression as he slowly moved lowered whatever weapon he had in his hold.
"Looking for you." Dustin attempted to calm the clearly frightened older boy down as well as trying to get him away from Steve. "We're here to help."
Kimmy felt the blond boy inch closer to her in what she assumed was a mix of fear and concern. She felt his hand brush against hers and waisted no time in grabbing it and squeezing it tightly in hopes to put him at ease.
While the boy was clearly still terrified, he seemed grateful that Kimmy had done her best to comfort him without drawing the attention of any of the others.
"Eddie, these are my friends." Dustin spoke once more when the older boy supplied him with no answer. "You know Robin, from band. This is Max, and this is Kimmy - the girls who never volunteer to play D&D with us."
Both Kimmy and Max scoffed at his words, despite knowing it was true. There had been numerous times where the two had claimed to be too busy to play in Dustin's club but in reality had sat and done nothing but talk to each other on a park bench for hours.
"And this is Aaron, you'll like Aaron." Dustin exclaimed in a desperate voice, seeing as the older boy had done nothing but glower at everything else the younger boy had said. "He's the kid who beat up Charlie Roberts."
Aaron could feel his face burn in embarrassment, utterly mortified at how Dustin had decided to describe the blond.
"I... I- it was during a game!" The boy stuttered, suddenly panicked as all eyes fell on him. "I didn't beat him up-"
"You beat the shit out of him." Dustin nodded with wide eyes. "I mean, he needed his ass kicked, but over breaking some rules during a hockey game? I will admit, I was surprised-"
"Can we talk about something else?" Aaron snapped abruptly, taking his friends by surprise. "Don't go interrogating me, Eddie's the one on trial here-"
"The point is that we're with you." Dustin interrupted the blond once more, hoping to stop Aaron before he further offended the older boy. "We're on your side."
Aaron fought back a remark.
"I swear on my mother." Dustin continued rather dramatically. "Right guys?"
"Yes. Yes, absolutely." The group chorused at once, nodding their heads rapidly.
"On Dustin's mother." Aaron nodded, careful with his choice of words, seeing as he wasn't exactly in support of the older boy.
Eddie either didn't pick up on Aaron's tone, or he simply ignored it. Whether he did or he didn't it was clearly enough for him to let go of the weapon he had pressed to Steve and walk away from him.
Aaron didn't hesitate in rushing over to his brother, pushing Eddie roughly as he passed him. Kimmy rolled her eyes at his antics.
While Aaron instantly darted over to where his brother had ended up, Dustin made his way over the room to where Eddie was without a second thought.
Despite wanting to go over and check on Steve, she lingered next to Dustin as she listened in on the conversation taking place.
"We want to know what happened." Dustin mumbled with a frown.
Eddie scoffed, shaking his head as he sniffled. "You won't believe me."
Kimmy hummed, catching the attention of the two boys. "Try us."
