55. Escape
CHAPTER FIFTY-FIVE
ESCAPE
The next morning, Aaron was more than grateful when he realised he was the first of the group to wake.
He hadn't gotten the best sleep, a few hours at most, but this was most likely due to the fact he was slumped on the floor and not asleep in his bed.
Aaron still had his back against the cold wall when he awoke, and his legs were still out in front of him.
However, he'd also woken to find that he was no longer resting his head against the same wall his back was rested against. He must have shifted in his sleep because his head was rested against Kimmy's instead.
The blond was slightly confused and dazed as he woke up, still exhausted with sleep lacing his mind as he rubbed his eyes with the palms of his hands.
He glanced down to see if the girl who had fallen asleep next to him that night was still in fact sleeping.
Just as he had suspected, she was still sleeping. Her hands were still tucked into her chest and she still had her face practically buried in his shoulder, but her legs were no longer lying straight out front of her and she had shifted slightly.
Her legs were tucked into her side and she was much closer to him than she had been when he had fallen asleep, the girl was practically curled into his side. And Aaron literally had no idea what to do.
The boy wasn't good when it came to the girl next to him anyway, but it was different when she was practically tucked into his side sleeping.
It was ridiculous, Aaron was so talkative around anyone else, he never thought twice about what he said. However whenever it came to the girl next to him he second guessed everything he did.
He was always a nervous wreck around her.
Aaron wasn't sure what to do, if he should wake her or if he should just leave her sleeping. Truthfully, he wanted to wake her so he wouldn't be sat himself waiting for everyone else to wake.
The blond sighed, biting his cheek before moving to shake her shoulder gently, but he couldn't seem to get her to wake.
"Christ." The boy mumbled under his breath when about a minute had past of him trying to wake her, but the brunette's eyelashes didn't even flutter as he shook her shoulder.
Eventually, Aaron did actually manage to wake the girl up. Watching as she reluctantly opened her eyes before closing them again and burying her face deeper into his shoulder.
Aaron grumbled in annoyance, rolling his eyes as he shook her shoulder again, this time a lot harsher.
This caused the girl to wake, moving her head from his shoulder, naturally shifting and putting some distance between the two as she put her head in her hands and tried to recollect her thoughts. Tiredly, she glanced up at him, squeezing her eyes closed as she fought back a yawn before speaking.
"How long have you been up?" She asked quietly, looking to him with a distant expression filled with exhaustion.
Aaron bit back a grin at the sight of her. The brunette's hair was a mess, particularly on the side she had been leaning against him.
"What?" Kimmy asked cautiously when he didn't answer her question.
"Nothing." The boy shook his head, although the slightly amused look stayed. "Your hair's just a little ruffled."
The girl groaned in annoyance, reaching up and trying to smooth her hair down with her free hand.
"Is that it?" Kimmy asked him carefully. "Does it look better."
"Yeah it looks better." Aaron told her honestly, pointing to the left side of her face that looked like it needed brushing through. "Just try smooth that bit down a little."
Kimmy nodded, instantly going to smooth the part of her hair Aaron had told her too. Seconds later she sighed, clearly frustrated as she dropped her hand to her side.
She then rolled the hair tie that had been on her wrist up to her fingers as she tried to tie her hair back into a ponytail after giving up trying to sort through her hair.
However this was proven to be quite difficult to do, seeing as she was trying to do so with a cast on one hand. To the point the girl eventually gave up trying to do that to.
"What are you doing?" Aaron asked her in a confused voice, tilting his head as she groaned out in frustration and tilted her head back in annoyance after failing to tie her hair back.
"Well, seeing as I don't have a hairbrush, Aaron, and that there is probably a million knots in my hair," the girl began speaking frustratedly. "I was trying to tie my hair back. But it's kind of difficult when one of my limbs are wrapped up in a cast."
Aaron rolled his eyes at her dramatics, before deciding to try and make himself useful so she wouldn't be dealing with her hair all tangled until they made it out of the room. If they made it out of the room. "Well, I can tie it back for you if you need help?"
Kimmy raised her brows at him, surprised by his answer to her annoyed rambles. "Are you sure you could even do it?"
"Um... excuse you but I think I can navigate my way around tying your hair up." Aaron scoffed, partially offended.
"Okay." Kimmy nodded in a mocking tone, as if she didn't really believe him. She handed him the hair tie that had been on her wrist. "Off you go then."
Aaron took the hair tie she was holding out for him to take and rolled his eyes, looking back at her with a dumbfounded expression. "Well I can't tie your hair back when you're facing me."
Kimmy narrowed her eyes teasingly at him, turning around and crossing her legs as she bit the inside of her cheek, patiently waiting for the boy to tie her hair back.
Only after Kimmy had looked away did Aaron let himself show the confusion on his face when he looked between the hair tie in his hand and Kimmy's long dark hair.
"What the fuck?" Aaron mumbled under his breath, grabbing her hair and trying to figure out how he was supposed to get her hair into a ponytail without any bumps in it like Kimmy was able to do.
Aaron sighed, trying to smooth out the mess he had made of her hair with his hand. No, it did not look as good as it did whenever Kimmy did her own hair, but Aaron tried to tell himself it didn't matter. He'd tried his best and it did look somewhat decent.
"Done." He told her, forcing a confident smile on his face when the girl turned to face him.
Kimmy shrugged at him, not bothering to tighten the loose ponytail she now wore.
"Thanks." Kimmy smiled appreciatively up at him, moving to stand.
Aaron nodded at her and sent her back a small smile as he copied her and went to stand, the two going to walk around the small room to try figure out any sort of way they could get out.
"If we get out of here," Aaron began, fearing maybe Kimmy couldn't remember what they had spoke about before she fell asleep, ignoring the look Kimmy sent him at the word 'if'. "Do you want to go see a movie on Saturday or something? You know, since we didn't get to last night."
"Yeah," Kimmy nodded instantly. "I can do Saturday."
Aaron smiled nervously down at her, the nerves on Kimmy's face clear as day when she looked away from him. Although she didn't move away, she was still stood next to him.
Aaron didn't lift his gaze from her, keeping his eye on the brunette as he looked down at her, Kimmy pretending not to notice. Kimmy was not short by any means, she was about Dustin's height, maybe a little taller. It wasn't because Kimmy was short Aaron often had to look down at her, Aaron was just tall for his age. Just slightly shorter than Mike, yet taller than Lucas.
Aaron soon did look away from her, and the two began walking around to try figure out just exactly how they were supposed to get out of the small room.
...
Hours later once everyone was awake, the entire group where trying to figure out what to do.
Dustin had climbed through the hatch once more and had been trying to get someone's attention with his walkie for the last thrifty minutes, although it didn't sound like he was getting anywhere.
Kimmy, Erica and Robin were the only ones inside the room at that point. Both Harrington brothers climbing up through the hatch and where now up on the roof where Dustin was.
Kimmy and Robin where at the buttons, the girls pushing any buttons they could despite knowing it wouldn't do anything.
"Could you redirect your stream please?" Robin yelled, catching Kimmy's attention as she flinched.
"Sorry!" Steve yelled from the roof just as Kimmy caught sight of a line of pee running down the wall, the girl scrunching her face up in slight disgust.
It was only because Kimmy had turned around at Robin' words did she notice Erica standing at the other side of the room. She had the mysterious green liquid that was in the long thin container Steve had found the previous night, banging it harshly against the edge of the small table.
"Erica, what are you doing?" Kimmy exclaimed as she walked up to her, grabbing the container from her hold. "We can't break this, we don't know what it is."
"Exactly, we don't know what it is." Erica told her as Robin could be heard rushing over to where the two were stood. "It could be useful."
"Useful how?" Robin retorted with wide eyes.
"We can survive down here a long time without food," Erica began explaining to the older girl. "But if the human body doesn't get water, it will die."
"I hate to break it to you." Robin argued back in a mocking tone. "But this is not water."
"No, but it's a liquid." Erica rolled her eyes as she spoke, Kimmy sighing as she looked back down at the container in her hands. "And if it comes down to me drinking that shit or dying of thirst, I drink."
Kimmy scoffed, as did Robin. Erica then reached up and grabbed the container from Kimmy's hands and began hitting it against the table again. Kimmy rolled her eyes in defeat.
Robin suddenly pushed past her, rushing to the black and red wall where the door had once been, pressing her ear to it as her eyes widened.
Kimmy's looked to her with a confused expression, making her way over to the girl. Although the second she made her way over, Robin was rushing away again, climbing through the latch to get the three boys attention.
"We've got company." Kimmy heard the girl tell who she presumed was Steve.
The brunette turned to Erica, the two girls looking to each other in a mix of confusion and fear.
"Guys," Robin yelled in a panicked voice down to Kimmy and Erica, motioning for the two to follow her. "Get up here."
Instantly the two did as they were told, climbing through the hatched and up on to the roof of the room before who ever Robin suspected to be outside made it to the room.
Kimmy could hear the door to the room slide open the second she shut the latched close behind her. The girl growing slightly panicked.
Soon after the sound of two men speaking in a language Kimmy couldn't comprehend although she presumed it would be Russian.
Steve leaned forward and looked down at the room through the small holes in the grate covering the middle of the roof.
Just as the boy looked back up at the group, his eyes paused on Erica who was sat beside Kimmy, a look of realisation on his face as Kimmy and Erica looked back to him confused.
The sound of whoever was in the small room leaving could be head next. Steve grabbing the container containing the green liquid from Erica as he ran down the hatch as fast as he could, the rest of the group rushing after him.
Kimmy watched as Steve wedged the container filled with the green liquid in between the bottom of the red and black wall and the floor just as it went to fully close.
Steve then yelled frantically for everyone to get out while they had the chance. The boy sliding Erica's bag under the gap before he ushered the girl to do the same. Then came Dustin, then Kimmy, then Aaron, then Robin, until finally Steve.
The black and red wall slammed down harshly a few seconds after Steve had got out of the room, the glass container shattering to pieces leaving the green liquid to spill out everywhere.
Kimmy gasped as she watched it literally burn a hole through the floor, sizzling as it did so.
"You still wanna drink that?" Robin teased Erica as the group watched parts of the floor melt away where the liquid had hit.
Erica sent her an unamused look in return, Kimmy holding back an amused smile.
"Holy mother of god." Dustin complained from behind the group, Kimmy turning to face him before realising what he was looking at.
He was looking down the corridor the group would have to walk down, it must have gone on for miles.
"Well... hope you guys are in good shape." Steve trailed off, pushing past the group as he began walking. The older boy hitting Dustin on the chest as he walked away. "Looking at you roast beef."
The group reluctantly followed after him, Dustin grumbling in protest at what Steve had said to him while Aaron was already complaining.
Kimmy sighed as she tuned Aaron's complains out, knowing this would be the longest walk of her life.
...
Doing my hair literally makes me want to die I can never get it.
Anyway new chapter!!! Hope everyone is having a good day and is enjoying the story!!!
