Worthless

I KNOW I SAID I UPDATE ON TUESDAYS BUT I FELL ASLEEP AND DIDNT WAKE UP UNTIL NOW! Apparently, my body was so sick of me not sleeping that it kinda just...took over and made me sleep over 12 hours haha oops

You face planted on your couch, the old thing creaking under your sudden fall. You groaned into the cushion for as long as your lungs to take it before you needed air. You picked your head up just a smidge, took a deep breath then face planted again. Boys were stupid and you were ready to just give up on them and move to the Himalayas or something. Become a nun. Start adopting kittens. Maybe even look into one of those free spirit traveling groups and live like a hobo.

Heck, you probably deserved all this.

You were in the midst of your third round of groaning and seriously contemplating the nun idea when you heard a familiar chuckle behind you. Your body slumped, even more, making you fall onto the floor in a heap. You stared at his shoes as you spoke in monotone.

"Barry I'd appreciate it of you would start distancing yourself from me. I'm about to take my vows."

Barry chuckled again and knelt on the floor, leaning down to make eye contact with you.

"When your mom asked you to get a move on with your life I think she meant a husband and kids. Not a life of celibacy."

His eyes were dancing with mirth and his smile lit up the room. You almost cracked a smile. Almost. Instead, you gave a deep, melancholy sigh, making your shoulders sag in exaggeration.

"She'll thank me later. Guys are stupid."

That made Barry's brows raise and he opted to lay on the ground next to you.

"And why is that?" He whispered as he tried to keep a straight face.

"I found out Ryan was using me as a side chick." You stared him right in the eyes, daring him to tell you 'I told you so'. "He didn't deny it when I told him my suspicions. And here I thought I was going to get my first boyfriend."

You tried not to react to Barry's happy face fall away to show concern and what you hoped wasn't pity. His eyes searched your face, suddenly making you feel very self-conscious. What the heck, he's never made you feel that way. You didn't move though, you stayed on the floor just looking at anything but him.

He broke the silence, making your eyes jump back to him. "You think you deserve it don't you?"

You shrugged one shoulder weakly. "Eh. Not like I can do anything about it now. I know my worth and my heart has been ripped out and stomped on." The back of your eyes started to sting and a lump formed in your throat but you kept it all down.

Barry sat up, his hair standing oddly and his brows furrowed. "You are taking this surprisingly well. Last I heard you were in love with the guy."

You sat up two but turned partially away from him. "People change. He likes his two other girlfriends and I wanna be a nun." You shrugged again as you wiped your running nose. Traitor.

Barry scooted closer to you, resting a hand on your back. "But that doesn't make the pain hurt any less. Besides, you would make the worst nun. Unless they suddenly allow swearing and loud music." His voice was kind but you could hear the concern.

You snorted at that but still avoided his gaze. If you looked at him you'd fall apart. If you wanted to be completely honest with him, or even yourself, you would say that yeah, you were heartbroken but there was always someone else you liked more. Someone else you found helped you and made you feel like you were worth something. But it wasn't like you to say anything like that, especially to the man himself. Barry wouldn't understand.

Barry pressed on. "I'm worried about you (Y/n). Shouldn't you at least cry or something."

You could hear he was trying to be funny but it struck a nerve within you. You turn to him and level him with an icy stare. "And what, you want me to go running into his arms and beg for an explanation or some way to validate my worth?" The anger took hold now, making your blood pump and your hands shake. You stood, backing away from him. "Or maybe you would like me to come rushing up to you, begging you to hold me and show me that I need only a man's word to prove my worth."

You weren't exactly sure what you were saying now. You just let the anger take over now. You could see the hurt in his eyes but you weren't sure if it was from your words or from how he felt about you. He stood, taking a careful step to you.

"No, that's not what I'm getting at. I just know how excited you were to be with him and to have this happen couldn't have been easy."

"And where did I say it was easy hearing him say 'OH (Y/n), don't you get it, I only came to you when I'm board. You make life a little more exciting than the other ones do.' And just like that, I'm an accessory."

Barry stuffed his hands in his pockets. "(Y/n), I'm so so sorry. Please, let me help you."

"Ohm now I'm a helpless damsel in distress?" You let out a strangled laugh. "Why don't you tell me "I told you so" and get a move on with your life."

Barry let out a breath and took another step forward. "I'm not going to say that. And no, you're not a helpless damsel in distress. You are an amazing woman who got hurt by a complete idiot. I just don't want you to think any less of yourself because of him. You are wonderful and deserve so much more. "

"Yeah right."

That was it. That was all you could say.

He's brows furrowed deeper and he reached out, wanting to take your hand but you stepped back. "(Y/n)," he cooed, "I don't think you're worthless."

Then the tears fell. He was trying to help. You could see he cared. But all you could do was be mad and you wanted to make him hurt just like you were hurting. You didn't want to hear his warm voice telling you how amazing you were. You didn't want him to comfort you with rational thought. And you sure as heck didn't want to run into his arms and have him hold you. You shook your head and reached for your car keys that happened to be close by.

"Don't run after me," you spit under your breath as you picked up your keys.

As quickly as you could you rushed out to your car, got in, and drove away. You could hear him calling after you, only making you more resolved. You didn't know where you were going but all you knew was that you wanted to get away from him. You were mad. Mad at Ryan, at yourself, at Barry. Barry's face unwantedly came to your mind and fresh tears fell.

 People honked at you as you made dangerous lane switches and sped past them. Oh, Barry why do you have to be so sweet?  You didn't want him to see you so weak, so vulnerable. You remembered all the times Barry warned you about Ryan and all the times you blew it off thinking he was worrying for no reason, that it easn't his business. But....but it was his business. He cared for you. You have been friends for years. You trusted him. You looked up to him.

You loved him.

Your eyes widened at your sudden realization. You loved him. Ryan was your odd and immature way of making Barry pay attention to you. Sure, you liked Ryan but you found yourself always glancing at Barry to see how he would react when Ryan was ever mentioned or around. And now that he was out of the picturew you feared Barry would leave you alone. You feared he would treat you like glass and never see you as someone worth dating.

But...but at the same time, he had been looking after you, caring for you the whole time. He made you soup when you were sick. Helped you move to your own place. Picked up Ryan's slack in coming to work parties as your plus one. Planned parties for your birthday. Went out with you when you got restless. Came over to just talk like he had today. He was always there. And here you were, running away from the fastest man alive.

Tears blurred your vision and sobs racked your body. You had been blind to his love all along. You had been blind to your love for him. And you were blind to the red light you just ran and the large truck that was heading right for your car.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Barry didn't stop running until he was at the crash site. He didn't care if people saw him use his powers. He didn't care if he made it before the emergency crew. He didn't care that you told him to not run after you. All he cared about was you and the pain he saw on your face when you ran out. So once he heard about a crash and your car was described as one of them, he didn't hesitate.
Broken glass and spilled fuel littered the scene as people got out of cars and emergency vehicle alarms sounded in the distance. Carefully, Barry picked his way through the debris, holding his breath against the fear that nagged him as his brain tried not to think the worst. He made it to your car and gasped. Through the shattered back window of your car, he could see you slumped over against your deflated airbag.
"(Y/n)!" He called as he made his way to you. "(Y/n)..."
You let out a groan as he opened the door and moved you back gently. The smell of gas was stronger here and he didn't like the sound your car was making. Carefully, he moved your seatbelt off you and pulled you gently to him. You let out another groan but didn't open your eyes.
"Shhh, I'm here. I need you to hold on to me."
Slowly you reached over wrapped an arm around his neck as he held you in his arms but you were still weak. As quickly as he could he moved you away from your car, just in time as it caught fire. People went crazy but he didn't care, he kept his focus on you as he sat on the ground with you. He held you close as he looked you over. Nothing looked broken but he could see bruises all over you already starting to form.
"Mmmm..." you moaned, "I'm sorry..."
Barry stroked your face. "You think getting yourself killed is going to make things better." He gave you a sad smile as he continued to stroke your face. "I love you, you stubborn idiot."
You opened your eyes at that and Barry smiled wide. You coughed a few times and your voice sounded weak but it made his heart soar.
"It took me almost getting killed for you to admit it," you coughed again, "wow."
Barry laughed, making you smiled just a tad. "I would like to think you didn't do this on purpose. I know Ryan was a jerk but there are others who would love to take his place."
You cocked a brow and blinked. "Are you suggesting I consider you?"
"Only if you stop fighting and let me love you."
You closed your eyes and relaxed into his arms as the paramedics arrived. "Alright," you whispered, "perhaps being a nun can wait."
Barry chuckled. "Perhaps it can wait forever." He leaned down and kissed your head, ready to beat Ryan senseless.
Not exactly my favorite one but I loved the picture and this idea wouldn't go away until I wrote it haha- anywho, thanks for the votes and reads! Feel free to comment and/or request ideas! Kisses!
