Why Not
You looked at yourself in the mirror, tugging at your modest dress, turning from side to side. You weren't sure if you could do this. You moved your feet to look at your shoes, tilting your head from side to side as you did your best to think positively about the outfit Iris helped you put together.
Barry asked you out on a date and it has been a nice long while since you have been on one. You were glad it wasn't to a fancy restaurant, just to the local coffee shop, but that didn't make the nerves dissipate any faster.
Your phone dinged with a text message. Barry has been texting you all evening, but you didn't have the energy to keep up a conversation over text then think of something to say over coffee. You close your eyes as you pick up your phone and peek at the message, letting out a breath of relief seeing it from Iris.
I really hope you are in the car driving because, knowing Barry, he has been waiting for a few minutes.
You roll your eyes and slump back on your bed, holding your phone up as you typed.
It's not my fault he's super fast and gets impatient. I'm heading over now.
You turn your phone on silent and toss it into your purse. You turn and give yourself one last look in your mirror. You let out a defeated sigh before you grab your things and leave, using the time in the car to try to convince yourself that Barry isn't put off by your Metahuman trait.

Barry picked up his phone, looking at the messages and hoping that you at least looked at them. He let out a sigh as he put it back down. For the life of him, he can't think of a single reason why you would be hesitant at all to at least just sit down and have some coffee with him. He double and triple checked with Iris that you liked him in any romantic way possible before asking. He didn't want you to feel pressured to go. But now that he looked back at it, he remembers you looking almost worried. He mistook it for surprise.
He took a slow sip of this growing cold coffee. Looking over the edge of his cup, Barry almost willed for you to just walk through the doors. But after a few slow second, he put his cup down and hung his head as he went to go pay for his drink. But a voice made him pause and turn around.
"You decide to enjoy life at a normal pace just once and you already want to ditch me on our coffee date." You chimed as you stepped through the doors, wearing a playful yet apologetic smile. "Though I don't blame you, I wasn't sure if I was coming either." You said with a hint of embarrassment as your cheeks felt warm.
Barry couldn't help but smile as he stepped up to you, grabbing your hand and pulling you into his arms. You went ridged but soon relaxed as he buried his face in your hair. Hesitantly, you wrapped your own arms around him, resting your head against his shoulder.
Barry moved his face just enough to whisper in your ear, giving you goosebumps in the process. "Why not?"
You didn't know you were so close to tears until he spoke. You swallowed hard as you pulled away from him, making sure not to look him in the eyes for too long. "It's not exactly easy to explain." You sniffed then wiped angerly at a tear that escaped. "I don't know. I don't want to you think me silly."
Barry's brows came together as he reached out and placed his hands on your shoulders. "How about we go somewhere more comfortable?" He moved to make eye contact with you, pushing some of your hair back.
You nodded and gave him a weak smile. You welcomed his hand as it moved down your arm to your hand, lacing your fingers together gently. The both of you knew exactly where he was taking you. Once, a few weeks after he found you, the two of you were working on tracking a Metahuman when you stumbled upon a tree house of sorts. After weeks of trying to see if anyone used it, you took it upon yourself to maintain it and use it as a place to let off steam due to your ability. You later showed it to Barry when he became worried after one of your accidents.
You both stop at the edge of a park. Barry gently lets go of your hand to open up a hatch in the ground, lifting it with one hand to pull a latch inside that opened the door a few yards off the ground. It was his idea to hide the latch to the door so no kids would welcome themselves in. He then helps you up so you could turn around and pull him up. You sigh as you look around the room big enough to hold three grown adults. Pillows, blankets and an assortment of flashlights and candles littered the room.
You quickly got busy getting your favorite spot set up as Barry closed the door behind him. You lit a few of the candles and turned on some of the flashlights, not wanting to drown the night sky. You make yourself comfortable and feel Barry do the same next to you.
A comfortable silence fell as the two of you stared off into the sky through a hole in the ceiling. You sighed as you absentmindedly let your head fall to the side slightly, resting on Barry's shoulder. Barry moved his hand over just enough to grab yours warmly.
"You are worried about your power, aren't you?" Barry's voice broke the silence, his voice traveling softly to your ears.
You closed your eyes and took a fortifying breath before you nodded just barely.
Barry then moved just enough to look at you, your hand still clasped in his. "You are wearing the anklet, right?"
Again you nodded, moving to hug your legs to your chest, reaching down to lift your left pant leg up a tad, revealing the black, thick band that pulsated yellow. Barry nodded then reached down and grabbed your hand, pulling it away to drop your pant leg down over it again. You don't look up at him but instead kept staring at where the bracelet gently hummed constantly against your ankle.
Thanks to Cisco and his techy thinking, he was able to create a bracelet that could track your energized cells with an emitted frequency that would then warn the wearer if they were starting to bond and excite the other cells at an atomic level. The humming helped the atoms in your blood from getting too close and it would prick to you help remind you to calm down. But with Barry around, you never needed the reminder.
"Hey. Look at me." He reached over with his free hand and placed a knuckle under your chin, coaxing you to look at him. "You aren't the only one with super powers." Barry gave you a small smile, this thumb moving across your jaw.
You venture a small, sad smile in return but it didn't last long. "I know that Barry, but your powers don't-- they aren't--mine works at a molecular level much differently than yours."
"Well, mine is pretty powerful. I mean, I can change time and--"
You pull away and pull your legs to your chest again, your voice sounding afraid as you laid your head on your knees. "Barry, I know that! You have had to use it for goodness sake. All because of me." You lifted your head from your knees, looking up at him through your lashes. "At least your power doesn't have the danger of going off like an atom bomb. You aren't a safety hazard to every living being in a five state radius." Your head fell back on your knees, your voice changing from whisper to a mumble. "At least you aren't a monster. At least you aren't alone."
Barry looked at you with wide sorrow filled eyes, heartbroken that you would think such a thing. Suddenly the sound of a low beeping sounded from your feet, causing the both of you to jump. That's when you receded deeper into yourself, too weak to ward Barry off, but you knew he knew what would happen if the beeping became steady. He gave you a few moments before he slowly crawled closer to you, reaching out tentatively as he pulled you to his chest. You didn't cry, but you shook with contained emotions. You fell to his chest, grasping onto his shirt, finally feeling relaxed after worrying for so long.
Barry whispered sweet words into your ear as he rubbed your back and stroked your hair. You buried your face into his chest and breathed him in. Soon the beeping slowed to a nearly inaudible hum. Your chest hurt and the tips of your fingers and toes felt numb. Barry pulled you away just enough to look you in the eyes, moving you hair behind your ears.
"You feeling better?"
"Yeah. I think I'm okay now."
Barry nodded and grinned, pulling you in for a real hug. "I don't think you are a monster."
He moved his head to kiss you on your head. "I don't think you are a bomb."
He kissed your ear. "I don't think you are dangerous."
He kissed your nose. "And you are not alone."
You scrunched your nose and looked up at him in confusion. "Why not?" You whispered.
Barry gave you a wide smile and chuckled to himself before he placed both hands on your cheek, caressing your face with this soft thumbs. "Because I'm with you." Then he kissed you right on the lips, holding you close.
You hiccuped a sob and threw your arms around him as you kissed him back eagerly. For the first time since you were given the bracelet, you couldn't feel it humming.
