Unintentionally

You have been on the run for a while. You lost count after several months, jumping from abandoned house to abandoned house. Now, you just want to stop running and be able to live in one place without being called a freak or a monster. It all happened when you were just sitting at your kitchen table looking at over due bills. Pain shot through your body and you could do nothing as your body fell from your chair and hit the floor hard. You remember waking up in the hospital with lots of doctors standing and staring at you. A bit frightened, you sat up quickly but instantly regretted it. Light filled the room as a deafening whine came from somewhere near you. As the lights dimmed you had to look away as to not get sick everywhere. The doctors and nurses that once stood around now lay dead in a large pile of blood all being supplied from the ears, noses, and eyes of the fallen bodies.

You ran. You went home and grabbed all you could and ran. News of your escape and alleged murders reached you weeks later, making it near impossible to be seen anywhere near your home town. You had no friends to call and no parents to aid you. You were alone. Fear took you over as days turned to weeks and weeks into months. The Whining Light happened three other times, near a park, a school and a market. Tears streamed down your face as you watched the light mercilessly take the lives of those innocent people. Not once could you link the four occurrences together, but at this point you didn't care. Now, you are laying on a bench across from a police station as it lightly snows. You have been thinking that it may be best to just turn yourself in then try to live a life like this, like a monster.

Doors creaked open and closed as you watched three people leave the building. One was an older black man who looked like someone who would laugh at embarrassing situations instead of getting upset. Two other men walked with them, both Caucasian and looking to be in their mid to late twenties. One had blond hair and had a matching badge to his supposed superior officer. He looked like a love sick puppy who smiled way too much, it was kinda creepy. The other stood taller than the first and looked to be holding a briefcase as well as some surgical gloves. He would brush his brown hair from his eyes and look at the older man with great respect. Looks like they are on there way somewhere important. Curiosity took over and you stood to quietly follow them, thinking that after wards you will turn yourself in.

You hide being a fallen crate as you watch the three men and a few other officers asses a situation on a dock, a man was found dead in his submerged car. After a few moments of silently watching, you deem it safe enough to inch a bit closer, but you froze. The tall brunet excused himself to take a phone call and decided it was wise to walk closer to you. You held your breath as you watch the seemingly very handsome man walk closer and stop just steps away from you. He answered his phone with a kind voice but it became more worried as the conversation went on. You absentmindedly listened for a bit.

"Are you sure Wells? This Metahuman could be one of those low key bad ones. A bright light that kills that emanates from a young woman? Yeah I'll come in, this case was closed before I got here. Be at the Lab in a sec." Your head snapped up at the description of the Metahuman and in just enough time to watch this man literally disappear from before her eyes in a flash. You shook your head in disbelief as you slowly made your way over to an abandoned shop corner. That guy has powers...just like you do. Well, kinda. You don't know of anyone that can run that fast without having powers. You steady your breathing and try to ignore the quiet whining that was coming from the back of your head. You make a change of plans. Find the other powerful person and see if he can help you adapt.  A lab. Wells. With those clues, you slowly make your way to the only lab you remember seeing since arriving here; S.T.A.R. Laboratories.

"Wells, are we sure it would be wise to go find her? As you can tell she seems to be the most dangerous and least known one we have faced yet."The voice of the tall man reached your ears as you tried to wipe the cold fresh snow from you hair and face.

You found a back door that was open and followed the sounds of voices until you came to a door way leading to a wide open space that held four people, one being in a wheelchair and another being the guy from earlier. Your heart started to race and the whining started up again. You wince and do your best to pay attention to the conversation.

"Barry, we need her. We need to study her. We need to make sure there is no one else out there like her. If anything I want to know how she has survived this long." You can hear the sound of him wheeling closer and your breath hitched. "Do you think you can do that? You can find her for me? She may need us more than we need her."

"Yeah...well." You hold your breath, waiting for the young man, Barry, to somewhat decided her fate. "Okay. Yeah, I'll try to find her." You let out a low breath and lightly shook your head. Now or never right?

Slowly you step out into the room, being sure to raise your hands and keep your eyes cast down, hoping to look less threatening. "So, I guess this is the part where you tell me what the heck is wrong with me." You said, keeping your eyes on your shoes.

A soft chuckle could be heard from right in front of you. Hesitantly, you raised your head and looked at the man in a wheelchair come a tad closer and reach a hand out with a warm smile on his face. "Well would you look at that. Fate seems to be smiling down at us. My name is Doctor Wells." You deftly reached your hand out and he clasped yours firmly in his before he turned away and motioned for two other people to come closer.

One looked to be in her twenties and sported a really cute outfit that matched her red hair. She smiled really widely and introduced herself as Caitlin. The other looked like a guy that would be selling tacos on the side of the street. His long black hair was parted down the middle and he wear a red shirt with the word "Bazinga!" on it. He smiled, but it didn't reach his eyes as he introduced himself as Cisco. You nodded to the both of them and just stood there, looking around the immaculately clean science rooms. You didn't say anything as you absentmindedly walked over to a case you saw on the wall holding a somewhat familiar red suit. Your hand lightly touched the fabric and you got shocked. You let out a surprised 'hmm' and stepped away to turn around and face the fourth person in the room that you knew was the one drilling holes in the back of your head since you entered the room.

"I am Barry, but I have a feeling you already knew that. How did you find this place?" You look at Barry and take in his fetchers. He is a lot more attractive up close; tall, dark, and hansom. Fantastic.

You duck your head to avoid the skepticism in his eyes. "I over heard your conversation with the doctor when I followed you and your two friends out of the police station. I swear, I was planning on turning myself in. I don't like what I am doing. I can't control it." Just then  your head started to hurt and the whining began strong this time. You let out a gasp as you clutched your head and fell onto your knees to the floor. Cisco stepped away, but Caitlin and Barry rushed over to help.

"We believe you (Y/n). We will help you. Come, lets get you all cleaned up and fed. We will start with questions and the testing will start later." Doctor wells looked at you with care and pity as Barry and Caitlin helped you up and walked you to a part of the building that held some housing for late night testing.

"Here, take this com. Let me know if you need anything once you get all situated. Barry can you take her from here?" Caitlin hugged you lightly and handed you a small phone looking thing that you assumed was the com. You looked to Barry and he nodded his head. You both watched as she left the room, leaving you two alone.

"I am sorry for eavesdropping and following you here. Sort of." You glance quickly at his face as you sit down on the bed, relishing the feel of a soft clean bed.

Barry rubbed the back of his neck with is hand and chuckled under his breath. "Don't worry yourself too much about it. I probably would have done the same if I were in your shoes." He places a hand tentatively on your shoulder. "Go ahead and get some rest. Wells can deal with talking to you tomorrow."

You look up at him and have to remind yourself how to breath. His sea blue-green eyes eagerly met yours, shining with kindness. You nodded your head, not trusting your voice, and watched him nod his as he left you to yourself. Letting out a low long breath, you leaned back against the wall and took in your surroundings. The room looks to be like a small apartment, complete with bathroom, mini kitchen and a small living area. You sigh and head to the bathroom to take a much needed shower.
Finding towels and a change of clothes in there already, you quickly hop in the shower and almost started to cry from the feel of the warm water hitting your filthy body.

After who knows how long, you get out and get changed. You felt a lot better and unbelievably  rejuvenated. You were about to lay down to sleep when it happened again. You clutched your head and let out a deafening scream. You vaguely hear and feel people around you, but all you could hear and see was darkness and the whining. You did your best to get away from them, you were not about to put your new friends in harms way. Suddenly you felt the shilling brush of wind as you assumed Barry had picked you up and took you somewhere.

"(Y/n)!!! It's me, Barry. Please answer me!" Fear and worry was evident in his voice, but you kept your eyes squeezed shut.

"No! Get away from me! I don't want to kill anymore people!" You tried to push his warm body away from you, but he kept his grip around you tight and comforting.

"No, not until you can tell me you are alright. Whatever just happened knocked out Cisco and Caitlin." Tears spilled from your closed eyes as you imagined them on the floor, blood pooling around them. "But Wells is fine and with them." You feel soft hands brush your tears away, provoking you to open your red rimmed eyes and stare Barry down. Worry lines creased his forehead and his mouth turned down into a frown.

"Barry, I could have killed them." Unabashed fear took his features over and you could have sworn you felt his grip on you loosen just a bit. "But I didn't mean to. I think it would be best if you locked me up, somewhere where I can't hurt anyone. Somewhere where no one can find me." You looked down at your hands and pressed them to your face. "I am really sorry."

You felt his arms wrap tighter round you as he sped back to the lab. Everything became a blur after that. Cisco and Caitlin woke up and wanted to know how you were doing. You distanced yourself from them all, only answering doctor Wells questions about your powers to the best of your abilities. Barry refused to look at you and only came close to walk you to your new home. You finally perked up when you felt Barry direct you toward a room that lead to a glass-doored looking cage.

"(Y/n), Wells says this is temporary, until we can figure out what is wrong with you." He didn't look at you the whole time he spoke. It has been two days since the most recent incident. Since then only Caitlin and sometimes Wells would be caring and most kind. Cisco seems the most frightened and Barry...you didn't know what he was thinking, but whatever it was, it wasn't good. He pushed a button, opening the door as he ushered you into the small room. You look up and back at him, hoping to catch his eyes.

"I truly am sorry Barry. I didn't mean to hurt anyone." With that you walked the rest of the way and turned as you made it all the way in. Barry stood there, finally looking at you, as he pushed the button again, closing you off from the rest of the world. He turned to leave but not without looking at you one last time.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Two months. It has been two months since you have been out of your "Safety Bubble" as Caitlin would call it. You and her have become really close once Wells convinced Cisco to create a room in the Lab for you to live in that would keep everyone safe from you. Your powers activated only one other time since you moved in there. Wells thinks that as a great accomplishment, though he would be secretive on his findings about your power. At this point you didn't care, just as long no one else was getting hurt. Luckily no one else has been, well besides you. Barry would rarely come in and talk to you, let alone look at you. Sometimes when everyone was there, you and him would banter and laugh together, almost like there wasn't a wall of glass separating you two. Almost like he cared.
One night you heard the sound of your door opening, thinking it was Wells to take your daily vitals. But you were surprised to see it was Barry. You sat up on your bed and tried to look as presentable as you could. Sure, he may have been ignoring you but you still find him agonizingly attractive. He looks at you nervously and stops just outside the door.
"(Y/n) Wells wants you to come with me to stop a store robbery. He thinks that you are stable enough to go out and try your powers on criminals." Your eyes widen and you open your mouth to protest, but Barry puts his hands up to stop you. "No, we don't want you to kill them. He thinks you are able to knock them out the way you did to Cisco and Caitlin," he spits the sentence out as if it left a bad taste in his mouth, "that way we can not only catch the criminals but train you to control your powers. I don't like the idea but I am to come along and pull you away in case things get out of hand." He turns to leave, not waiting on your response. Before he left the lab completely, he threw his next comment over his shoulder. "I will come get you in thirty minuets. Dress warmly."
Thank goodness you listened to him. The wind wiped your hair and tugged at your clothes. Barry rushed over to you, silently picked you up and rushed you to a corner of a street. You both stood there and watched as three men meticulously took things from a jeweler store, the owner tied up and squirming on the sidewalk. You step forward wanting to help the tied up shopkeeper, but Barry's arm shot out an stopped you. He leaned his head down and you could smell the thick leather of this suit.
"Not yet. Do you think that if I rushed over and grabbed the man then you neutralized the robbers?" He took his hands an turned you around to face him. "Can I trust you to not hurt me and the shopkeeper? And to not kill the robbers or yourself?" Distrust riddled his fetchers and your heart sank at his inability to trust you. You look him right in his beautiful eyes and nodded your head with surety.
"Go get him and get to a safe distance so I don't have a chance of hurting you." You turn back to watch the men grab more bags, the store owner had given up on his fighting and watched helplessly as all the merchandise was taken. Barry made a humph in agreeing and rushed over to grab the man.
You watched them get to a far distance then turned to the men before you. Fear, frustration and determination coursed through your veins, you did not want to screw this up in fear of loosing the little trust Barry had for you as well as the chance to create a stronger friendship.
The whining started off quiet and low, making it hard for you to tell if it was really happening. Your hands made their way from your side to in front of you, your palms up and tingling. Pain started to throb behind your eyes as you tried harder to focus on the men about to leave. Urgency and anger pushed you to the edge as you let out a scream. Blinding light flashed from your hands and the whining became deafening. You kept your eyes open this time, though it hurt like looking at the sun for too long, you didn't want to kill the men, only incapacitate them. Tears dripped from your eyes as you watched the men fall the the ground in grunts. Not sure if they were out, you held out a little bit longer. Suddenly you felt a hand on your back as an arm wrapped around your middle, pulling you toward a warm body. You did your best to turn the power off but nothing was working. A tear dripped onto your hand, the warm liquid pulling you away from the fallen men. You wiped your face and tried to focus on the voice talking to you but all you heard was whining and all you saw was blood. Blood covered your  hands and splattered on the ground. Where was that coming from?
Finally you heard it, your name. "(Y/n)! Please! Stop! You are hurting yourself! It's me, Barry." You started to shake as the whining died down and you were able to focus on his now unmasked face. You let out a gut wrenching sob as you buried your face in his chest.
"Are they dead?" You whispered your question, wanting to know but fearing the answer at the same time. You felt his body bring you closer, the whining now drowned out by the fast and soothing beating of his heart.
"They are out. I am not sure for how long. Come on, Joe can take care of the rest, I need to get you back to the lab. Wells has some new discoveries to share with us." He pulls away, but only enough to place a hand on your cheek and wipe some blood from your face. "I thought I told you to not hurt yourself? You don't do well with listening do you?" He whispered as he leaned his forehead on yours.
"What is it to you? I could be dead for all you care, wouldn't make much of a difference now would it?" You don't know where the anger came from but the whining was starting up again and your hands were starting to burn. Barry looked taken aback but he didn't retaliate, instead it was his turn to surprise you. He places a soft but sure kiss on your forehead. He then gently picked you up and sped you both to the lab.
He sat you down on an examination table outside of your special room. Still in shock from his kiss, you didn't ask why you weren't placed in your cage. Caitlin rushed in and gave you a hug, on the verge of tears as she asked why you would risk your life like that, and just for some stupid robbers for that matter. Cisco tentatively made his way into the room as Doctor Well's wheeled himself in with a look of pure excitement claiming his face. You looked at everyone in confusion and looked to Barry for explanation.
Barry pointed to his headset saying she could hear you screaming and she was monitoring your body frequency and that Cisco and Wells have come up with more info on your power. You nod to him and accept the damp towel Caitlin handed to you. You tiredly wiped your face and hands, sinking into the table, absentmindedly leaning against Barry as he wrapped an arm around you helping you feel more comfortable. You push your feelings aside and let the comfort take over, you were too tiered to care.
"Dear you did a fantastic job!" Wells looked at you with admiration and awe, though you aren't fully sure why. You almost got yourself killed. Against your will, your eyes started to glaze over and it was getting harder to focus.
Caitlin came over to your side and felt your head. "She is running a fever. We need to make this quick. Now (Y/n) this may sound like an odd question, but do you remember exactly what you were doing when you got your powers?" You blinked. That was a long long time ago. Your face scrunched and you let out a small sound of distress. Barry shifted slightly so one of his hands was holding one of yours, he let his thumb make small circles, soothing you so you could calm down.
"I-I was doing bills. I remember being frustrated and tired. Maybe even a little angry. But I was angery a lot back then. Now I'm just scared all the time." Your body slumped and your head fell.
Doctor Wells let out a quiet but excited exclamation. "Bingo. See, I have come to think that your power is trigger by mass amounts of fear, anger, and frustration. All the feelings you were feeling when you were turned into a Metahuman." He looked to Barry and Cisco nodding his head to them. "Now unfortunately we can't get rid of your power, but we can help you hone in on it and train you to use it in a harmless way. Cisco has made a headset that can help you know when to recognize when things start to overwhelm you. In time we will be able to-" Wells was cut off by Barry clearing his throat. Your head was starting to bob and your eyes were finding it difficult to stay open. Wells saw this and smiled lightly. "Go and place her to sleep for the night. We can continue this later."
Barry nodded and nimbly took you into his arms and he simply walked to the room you were given the first night here. He looked down at you and smiled a small sad smile. Wells had told him earlier that the reason Barry felt immense distrust for her was because she was emanating it, right before she had her episodes. Only he could feel it due to his speed power and the high frequencies he can detect, including emotions.  Oh how he wished he had known that sooner, that way he would have acted on the way he felt about her after he left her alone or when they were all talking in a group. He entered the room and softly laid you on the bed, pulling your shoes off and your extra winter layers. You had fallen asleep in his arms and he now did his best to not wake you as he tucked you in, but your eyes were peeked open a bit. He stood there and looked at you for a few seconds before he left. As he turned to go, you reached your hand out to stop him by lightly touching his arm.
"Please, don't go." You kind of mumble under the blanket a bit. "You are the only one who makes me feel safe." Barry turns around to you and sits on a chair by your bed, he holds your hand now and leans closer to hear you better. "I know I scare you and Cisco, but I don't know what I would do without you and your friends."
Barry reached his free hand out and stroked your hair, his sad eyes looking into yours. "Shhh, hey, it's alright. I'm not afraid of you. It's-it's complicated. I'll tell you in the morning. Right now you are spent and need to sleep." He stroked your hair one last time. You look back up at him and smile slightly. But your head cocks to the side slightly as you watch him shake his head slightly and slowly leans down closer to you. You hold your breath as he kisses you on the forehead again, just like earlier.
"Goodnight (Y/n), sleep well. I will help you train and feel safe again." And with that he was gone and you slept, for the first time, in peace.
