Unhappy Tummy
You hate your body. So. Stinking. Much. It all started when you were with Iris on a late night outing to the movies. You blame the Twizzlers. Iris even told you not to eat them all before the movie even started. But things happen when you haven't really eaten all day, such as illogical choices in a late dinner consumption of red colored sugar sticks.
You groan as you roll over from your back to your left side contemplating on the pros and cons on getting a glass of water. Just as you were about to get out of bed you heard the front door open. Right, you forgot to lock it last night. You flop back on the bed and closed your eyes moaning slightly. Without caring about the consequences you yelled out.
"Whoever the heck you are, can you get me a glass of water? If you are a robber take what you want, I feel like I'm dying anyways. I think I have some cake in the fridge." You waved your hand in the direction of the kitchen, knowing full well that the intruder can't see you. You didn't even know if they could hear you. If they really wanted to hurt you, you wouldn't be able to stop them. Not like you would want to, your stomach was doing a pretty good job slowly killing you anyways. A quick ending would be lovely. But not literally of course.
There was no answer back but you could hear shuffling and the sound of the fridge being opened and closed. You rubbed your face and let out a long breath. What were you thinking telling them about the cake? Now you want a piece. Your train of thought was cut off when the door to your room slowly creaked open. You freeze. First thing that comes to your mind is 'Dang it, I knew I should have gone to bed in my nicer pjs.' You figured you should just lay there sense there isn't much else you can do, pretend you dozed off, which wasn't very hard to do.
"Knock, knock. You alive?" Your body instantly relaxed. Iris.
You cleared your throat and propped yourself up on your hands behind you. You can't help but roll your eyes at your best friend. She always looks really cute and her hair done almost perfect every time you see her. No wonder Barry liked her. You smirk and rub your eyes. "Only just. Hey what are you doing back from work so early?" You cock your head to the side taking in the tall glass of water she is holding as well as the plate of cake and the TWO forks placed next to it. Beautiful or no, she is heaven sent.
"I have come to see if my best friend is still in the land of the living. Besides it's almost five you goober. I didn't think seeing a late movie would land you close to death." She spoke as she made her way to the end of your bed and placed the plate and glass on your bedside table. With her hands now free she used one to tuck a hair behind her ear and with the other she attempted to straighten your bedspread. You laughed and swatted her hand away, knowing her efforts would be futile.
"Oh stop, I'll only screw it up later. Did I really sleep all day? Man I didn't think I had it that bad." You scooted back so your back came flesh with your back board. You jumped a bit when it hit the wall with a loud THUNK. Iris laughed and gave you an endearing look. You glared and stuck your tongue out at her. "Hey it's not my fault I get spooked easily." Suddenly you widened your eyes and pointed a finger at her, staring her straight in the eyes. "And don't you DARE tell Barry, he will use that against me, and he already freaks me out with that speedy thing he does." Iris laughed again and slightly shook her head.
"I won't, promise. But what doesn't make sense is why you told me, a supposed bugler, that I could take anything. You even offered your cake! Something is really wrong with you. How are you feeling over all?" She leaned forward and rested her hand on your forehead. Her eyes softened and she gave you a pouty face. You couldn't help but smile.
"I just figured sense I was dying anyways there wasn't much else I could do then be hospitable to the next house guest that entered. Besides I want to leave here knowing at least someone will appreciate my baking." You winked and started laughing with Iris but that triggered a terrible coughing fit. After you calmed down and Iris got you your glass of water you both continued talking. But unbeknownst to the both of you, there was a figure standing outside your bedroom door.
Barry listened quietly as his two lovely friends talked and laughed together. He had only met you about five or six months before but it was like you two were friends for years. He was quite impressed that you took the news of him having super speed and being the true identity of The Flash, very well. But that's a totally different story. Right now he just couldn't get enough of your laugh. But when he started hearing you cough he got worried. He inched closer so he could hear Iris ask for the third time if there was anything you really needed. Your voice is quieter now but still audible.
"Do you really want to know what I want? Like for reals for reals?" You coughed again, they are getting worse and starting to wrack your whole body.
"Yes I do! I hate seeing you like this and not being able to help." Iris sounded a bit more distressed. Barry was starting to agree with her.
"Fine. Now keep in mind I am half delirious and extremely needy. You might want to write it all down." You lightly laughed but took a deep breath and began your list. Barry stood there intently listening, making sure to mentally note everything perfectly. After you finished he couldn't help but smile as he dashed from the room unnoticed and began his scavenger hunt.
Meanwhile back inside your room Iris sat there on the bed with her eyes wide as she blinked a few times.
"Come again? You want real German chocolate, real Japanese crab puffs, a back scratch, and something from Egypt?"
You nodded vigorously. "Yes, amongst other things." You started to cough again. This time you couldn't get enough air into your lungs to take another breath. Iris jumped up from her spot on the bed and started to freak out.
"Oh my gosh breathe (y/n)! How about we start with something not on your list, a nice warm bath. We need to get your lungs working again." She came closer and sat next to you on the edge of the bed. You finally go your breath back and seeing as how that took up all your energy you rested your head on her shoulder.
"Yeah," You croaked, "That sounds nice." Your eyes started to close and Iris took that opportunity to get the bath ready. She slowly detached herself from you and placed your head down on your pillow making sure you were covered and comfortable. She left the room and shut the door.
You decided that getting some shut eye while she was working on the bath wouldn't be such a bad idea. You had closed your eyes and started to dream when you heard your door open again. 'What the heck? Does Iris have super speed that I don't know of?'
"Hey." Your eyes shot open. Speaking of super speed.
You propped yourself up again and tried to focus your eyes in the dimming light from the window. A tall figure stood in the door way with what looks like a laundry basket. You scrunched your eyebrows and coughed lightly.
"What's up?" You try to fix your hair and blankets when you hear the soft chuckling of your new best friend. The room light was flicked on and you got your first breath of fresh air. And by fresh air you mean seeing Barry. He is one of the sweetest boys you have ever met and you can only count yourself lucky that you know him. Thank the stars you agreed to move here and take the intern job Iris offered.
Barry moved closer and placed the blanket covered laundry basket on the end of your bed. He took of his jacket and placed it on the foot board as he ran a hand through his windswept hair. Now you understand why it always looked like that, making it all too tempting to run your fingers through it and fix a few fly-aways. He came closer and leaned down has he rested his hand on your forehead. You rolled your eyes and swatted his hand away.
"Oh not you too. Iris is already here and grilled me about feeling better. Now what are you doing with your laundry here? I thought I made it clear I was only going to fold them that one time. Besides you have your super speed, you should be the one doing MY laundry." You fold your arms and lean your head back on your head board. Barry smiled and shook his head.
"Naw, not laundry this time. How are you feeling?" You shrugged and coughed in answer. He gave you a sad look then pointed to your door. "I did in fact see Iris leave. I'm glad she is helping. But quite honestly I have some stuff of my own to help you out." You raised your eye brows as he lifted the blanket off the laundry basket. Your hand flew to your mouth and your eyes widened.
He got you everything you listed to Iris. 'How the-, ' You couldn't help but grin like a freak.
"You have got to be kidding me. Please tell me that was the only time you have ease dropped on our conversations!" You blushed a bit but laughed with him as he started takin things out of the basket one at a time. A bottle of sand labeled "Egypt", an authentic Japanese box with pictures of crab puffs, real German chocolate, a back scratcher and other little things.
"Now I didn't know if you wanted colored pencils or markers so I got both for your "adult coloring book". Oh and I got you something extra." He handed you a little box. You raised an eyebrow and hesitantly took it from him. He nodded his head toward it, urging you to open it up. You gingerly untied the wrapping and took the lid off. Inside was a beautiful green-blue gem necklace. You kept staring at it and carefully took it out. The last rays of the day streamed through the window as you lifted the necklace to eye level, the rays hit it just right causing light fractures to hit the walls and ceiling. An uninhibited tear fell down your cheek as you continued to look at the chased gift.
Barry didn't know exactly what to do. He meant for all of this to help you, not make you cry. He came forward and placed his hand on yours that was holding the necklace. Your eyes moved from the sea foam gem to his matching eyes. You smiled and moved your other hand to his cheek. You were about to say something when your lungs thought otherwise. Moving away from Barry, as to not get him sick as well, you coughed harder than earlier into your arm. Tears started to fall but they weren't happy ones this time.
Berry came over to the other side and got on the bed and started to rub your back. After a few minutes of learning how to breathe again, you rested your head on whatever was close. That happened to be Barry's lap. You closed your eyes as you felt his hand start stroking your hair. You were about to drift off when you hear the door open, yet again.
"What the crap! Barry did you do something? She sounded like she was dying!" You could hear her quick steps come closer and a loud smack of skin on skin. Your pillow flinched and laughed lightly.
"Hey cool it! I just brought things to help and it seems like I just made things worse. What does she have?" Barry gestured to the presents on the bed and the gem necklace still clutched in your hand. Iris's stern look turned to awe. She faced Barry and smiled.
"You are too sweet. I have no idea, but I think a nice bath would help. I got it all ready." She turned around to leave but spun on her heel to face Barry again. "Hey do you think you could carry her to the bathroom? I don't feel like making her do more than necessary. Besides you were the one that practically made her die." She smirked and left the room.
Barry looked down at your now calm figure, still stroking your hair. You moaned softly. He smiled then leaned down whispering in your ear.
"I have to move you now. Just hold on to me. You are in good hands. Iris has the bath ready." He gently moved to a more suitable position to carry you to the bathroom. After groggily pulling yourself up and deftly into Barry's arms you relaxed. He rested his head atop yours, telling you how sorry he was for how sick you were. You nuzzled your face closer to his chest and took a shaky breath.
Yeah, you were in good hands
